Emergency Town Meeting, Town Hall, Thursday Afternoon

For as long as Zoe could remember, she'd always had to be the solid one in any given group. When Wash had died, she'd known instantly that she couldn't let her emotions show in front of anyone but the ghost in her quarters. It was Mal's job to fly off the handle, to swear and shoot people, and it was her job to be a rock, and to bring him back to stability.

In Fandom, the situation was very much the same every time something terrible happened. Zoe knew that no matter how bad things got, she had to be strong, because falling apart in front of the students, or even the teachers, just wasn't an option.

Which, she supposed, made Anakin her Mal here, if only because imagining Deadpool in tight pants made Zoe's brain do things it oughtn't.

Cameron was gone. Her family was gone. Only Grace was left, and that was because Zoe wasn't letting her more than an arms length away. Her handwavey radio call for an emergency town hall meeting wasn't just about gathering information and rallying everyone together, although it was certainly damn time for that. Hopefully, it would provide a good head count for who was still left on the island. However many people came, it wouldn't be enough to make Zoe feel better, but maybe it would be a start.

Grace didn't fully understand what was happening, but she knew that Sam and Peter had been around to play with her yesterday morning, and now they weren't and Mommy was even sadder. So, she hadn't fussed much when Zoe put a harness on her this morning. It was better than being held all the time, for sure.

The leash was in Zoe's hand, of course. She knew it looked strange, but she dared anyone to tell her she was being crazy right now.

Katniss and Wesley were here as soon as both could be. And while Katniss wasn't one for public displays of affection nearly ever, this was a special circumstance, and for that reason her fingers were tightly wound through Wesley's.

Dany arrived with all three dragons -- Drogon on one shoulder, Rhaegal on the other, and Viserion cradled in her arms. They were getting large enough that it was uncomfortable to carry all three, but she hardly noticed. She wasn't letting them out of her sight after the loss of her silver this morning.

Joan was here, of course, and with a clipboard and pen to take notes. Eric needed to know what was happening, and it wasn't as though he could attend.

That was all. Just attention to detail for Eric. She wasn't worried at all for herself, really.

Natalie's face was blank which was probably taking all her willpower right now, because she was feeling a lot of things.

But she was here because there really was no point in being anywhere else.

Anders felt like he'd come a long way from the first invasion he'd ever faced in Fandom, what felt like a thousand years ago. He'd hidden back then, too scared of dealing with anything outside his familiar sports-related comfort zone to know what to do. It was going to make him feel old, looking at the students assembled here, but how was that going to be any worse than the years it felt like he'd put on with every friend (gods, Xander and Bridge, Piper, and Zero, and the list just went on) who'd been taken by this thing?

He leaned against the wall, quiet and serious because he was the prettiest when he was all serious and angsty and a little grubby, hoping they'd learn something that would give him a place to help out.

The irony was not lost on him that for all he'd come a long way since that first invasion, he felt about as helpless now as he had then.

Isabel made her way from the library and found a spot to watch the door, crossing names off her mental list as familiar faces showed up.

It was the faces that weren't showing up that had her clutching her cup of coffee that much tighter.

Stephanie felt a little shattered inside today, but she didn't let that show. She'd shoved that to the side and tapped into her anger instead; her expression was slightly hard, to the point of the occasional twitch showing in the tensed muscles of her jaw.

After she'd gotten back from Tony's lab last night she'd tried to call her Bruce, and gotten a disconnected-number message, which to her meant that if anything was left of her world, it didn't really have a chance any more.

So. For Tony, and for Cass and Babs and Bruce and everyone in her world, she was ready to help however the hell she could. She didn't feel like Robin today, but . . . maybe she understood Batman a little more.

Ronan looked, quite frankly, exhausted. Which was so unlike the rest of the people in the room, truly.

Jack slouched down in the corner, fingers twisting at his ring. He was counting the people there.

Not nearly enough, he thought, and too many of them seemed a bit broken. But it was what they had.

Tyrion actually left the library for the first time in what felt like days, though he toted a pile of books and continued to flip through one even as he sat.

He was oddly grateful to spot Daenerys Targaryen. His world had some hope, even if it was an imp, a beggar king's teenage sister, and the girl's three dragons.

Rory had found a spot to sit with Juliet and was trying to entertain her with something other than her hair, because she really didn't need yanked-on, saliva-drenched locks right now on top of everything else.

No power on this island would keep Kate from carrying weapons this week. Even if she wasn't sure if they'd do any good.

Clinging she might not be, but like everyone else she was looking somber as she leaned against a wall to observe the meeting.

Anakin arrived, lightsaber on his hip and his expression closed off.

The first thing he did was look for Rory, of course. The second was to see if Bo or any of the people who'd been mentioned on radio as encountering the visitors and walking away from it were in the room.

Once it seemed like everyone who was going to show up had arrived, Zoe stood up at the front of the room.

"I suppose we all knew that whatever was out there would reach us eventually, but I think we can all agree that this is where it will stop, and it won't be by wiping us out," she said firmly. "If you have any information that might be useful in protecting ourselves from the Auditors, or in fighting them, please speak up. I'm going to start by suggesting that people stay away from the outskirts of town - we might be shielded for now, but it's not stable." She was trying not to think about what it might be doing to Cable too. "This is also why we need to figure out some solutions, and fast."

"I ran into a couple of them yesterday," Bo said, stepping forward. "They can zap people out of existence just by touching them; I saw it happen offscreen, as you do to one of the clerks at Jeff's, and got my ass out of there. So... no solutions, but at least I can tell you to for God's sake don't get within grabbing distance."

Well, that had been . . . interesting, and Anders felt a little justified in telling Stark to keep baking cupcakes.

He headed for the door, planning on stopping by J,GoB again to check on the cupcake-baking project, but paused to fumble in his inside jacket pocket for his cigarettes.

Where the hell had he put them?
