For as long as Zoe could remember, she'd always had to be the solid one in any given group. When Wash had died, she'd known instantly that she couldn't let her emotions show in front of anyone but the ghost in her quarters. It was Mal's job to fly off the handle, to swear and shoot people, and it was her job to be a rock, and to bring him back to stability.

In Fandom, the situation was very much the same every time something terrible happened. Zoe knew that no matter how bad things got, she had to be strong, because falling apart in front of the students, or even the teachers, just wasn't an option.

Which, she supposed, made Anakin her Mal here, if only because imagining Deadpool in tight pants made Zoe's brain do things it oughtn't.

Cameron was gone. Her family was gone. Only Grace was left, and that was because Zoe wasn't letting her more than an arms length away. Her handwavey radio call for an emergency town hall meeting wasn't just about gathering information and rallying everyone together, although it was certainly damn time for that. Hopefully, it would provide a good head count for who was still left on the island. However many people came, it wouldn't be enough to make Zoe feel better, but maybe it would be a start.

This shit just wasn't good for Effy's carefully monitored state of calm.

Three days of portal cancellations, delays and reroutes and she’d finally been dumped at the causeway this morning. It was better all around (and for the sake of her ongoing sanity) if she continued not to think about what she’d left behind... or the lack, thereof, and certain other people who just weren’t fucking answering to anything, however much she called.

Her usual bench in Bristol probably didn’t exist anymore, so she’d chosen a Fandom counterpart for now, despite the chill. A place where she could sit, breathe, and watch the last hardy ducks. You could almost pretend the world wasn’t falling apart at the seams.

... Well. The ducks were still there. That was vaguely comforting.

[[Finally, I can post! The park is an open place, and she is botherable.]]

Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

Welcome to your 2011 Homecoming Dance!

The community center had been decorated both prettily and tastefully for tonight's alumni mixer, even if the music left a little to be desired. After all, sure, it was nice to have some good dancey music in there, but what was a mixer without some Bieber thrown in there? And the more Bieber the better, right? So those attending could look forward to one of those classics thrown in there every now and then. And possibly look forward to getting those classics stuck in their heads, whatever.

Look, at least the food was good, okay?

Emma was in about as good as mood as she could be, all things considered. Finding out that your ex-boyfriend had been in town and not even bothered to call and apologize for being an ass? It was rather possible that her mood was actually not good at all. Point of fact, Tiny was practically hiding behind the bar from her. When she was in one of these moods.

Emma was at her station, alternately texting with people and playing poker on her phone. The Devil's Nest was open, but cover was double for guys tonight. Because she could.

Jaina wasn't letting any of yesterday's down feeling get to her today, because she repressed like a champ. Besides, her last shift here wasn't till next week, and so any melancholy could at the very least be postponed.

Besides, tonight Tino was playing experimental bartender again. He'd be quiet for a while as he mixed something up, then shove something at Jaina for her to try it. There were very, very small sips happening, because he was so obviously having an off night. And then there was a lot of water drinking because she refused to have that aftertaste for more than a second, ew.

Of course she also didn't know Tino was doing it on purpose. Oops.

Momoko had been all over town and the school today, hanging posters for her Teamwork class' team charity project/final. They'd made arrangements at the Community Center already and Momoko headed straight there to man the collection booth as soon as her Ethics class ended.

Hopefully lots of people would bring their old clothes, books, and things so that they would have a good sale and be able to buy lots of toys for the sick kids.

She looked at the giant version of the poster that she'd taped to the back of a chair near her pile of empty boxes. "Hmmm. Maybe I should have used glitter. To just, you know, totally attract the attention? It's kind of ordinary looking."

[OOC 1: Poster is in PDF, but have text: Have stuff you don't want? ["Thanks for the sweater!"] Can't take it home? ["This hasn't been invented yet!"] Just don't use it anymore? Bring it to us!! At the Community Center all day Thursday. Then come to our Charity Rummage Sale. This Saturday, in the Community Center! All proceeds will go to buying toys for kinds in hospitals!! No, Edmund wasn't in the wrong place and neither was this post; there was an incredibly direct note taped to the classroom door pointing his Dealing With Idiots students this way.

He also wasn't wearing one of the lovely purple uniform shirts stacked on the table beside him, and as for the hats... well. You couldn't pay him to put one of those on.

Just in case that wasn't obvious, he opened with a subtle allusion to that very fact: "You couldn't pay me to put one of those hats on." See? Subtle. "If you've any sense at all, the same is true for you."

Blackadder smiled somewhat evilly. Well.... not evilly, not really. Just bastardly. Evil took more effort than he cared to expend. "Luckily for us all, I'm not paying you; I'm just ordering you. Welcome to the Real World, and I don't mean that programme where they shove a bunch of spoiled twenty-somethings into a flat for six weeks and interview them on the commode about the previous week's adventures in fornication. I'm talking about the service industry. Today, half of you will be wearing the pointier and less dangly bits of a cow on your heads, while the other half try as hard as possible to make your lives completely miserable while ordering food from you."

All right, maybe he was a little evil. "The place is also open to the public, so you'll have to deal with any real idiots who wander in."

[OOC: Open! Post is for Dealing With Idiots class and anyone else who wants to traipse in and make their lives hell by ordering a Super McDuper McMoobity Meal with no bun, ranch dressing on the side, extra ice in the Diet Coke and a mini-moob meal toy without the mini-moob meal.]

As soon as Nathan walked into the bar, he knew Tino was not going to be the entertaining bloke that he usually was. For one, he was crying pitifully over a glass of milk and for two...he was wearing culottes. Yeah, Nathan was not going to fucking ask. Instead, he left Tino alone, proving that he could have some sympathy.

Instead, he grabbed a bottle of whiskey, grabbed a glass and poured himself a drink while plucking his phone out of his pocket. And now it was time to text message people at random. Most of the time, he closed his eyes and picked a contact at random before sending a ridiculous message but sometimes, he chose the recipient on purpose.

Hopefully nothing incriminating would get to the wrong person. If it did, well, oh well.

Eric Northman didn't get nervous over club openings--he saved his nerves for important things like potentially meeting the sun, getting staked or talking with Nan Flanagan--but he was a tad...apprehensive. It would be embarrassing to throw a party and not have anyone show up.

Tiny, the enormous bouncer, was at the door waiting to check IDs, the newly hired DJ was in the booth, the lights were dimmed, the bar was staffed, the overpriced appetizers were being prepped...it was time to get started.

Eric slouched into his leather booth in the VIP section, put a vaguely bored expression on his face and waved his hand at Tiny to open the doors.

When Alex got into work that day, Tino was quietly cleaning the glasses. He didn't even look at Alex and was even being moderately polite.

"You know, everyone thinks you're a creeper and I wouldn't be surprised if you peep on the zombies when they're naked. You really need to get the Dummy's Guide to Not Being So Creepy. Might help you out."

Tino stood there open mouthed and Alex got to work. Of course, considering Alex would tell Tino this on any ole day, it hadn't dawned on him that this day was weird. Tino deserved it considering Alex was all wound up, tense and still jumpy. There was nothing weird going on here.

Alex was decompressing after this past weekend. Currently, that involved a bottle of Jack Daniels, a glass and a glare. The first two were for Alex and the last was for Tino. Tino wisely stayed out of Alex's way tonight. He didn't need to get popped in the nose or something.

And thus began Parents' Weekend. It was an overcast day but the rain had long since tapered off. Just in case, tents had been erected all around the park to protect from the potential for wet stuff. No one needed their guest showing up cranky because they'd been rained on.

There were tables and tables of all sorts of food and drinks. There was something for everyone. The Student Council had spared no expense. Blue and gold tables and chairs were also spread out underneath the tents, giving guests and islanders a place to sit down and chat or sit down and eat or something to hide under.

A registration table stood near the front of the setup where guests could check in and get a nametag. A banner adorned the edges of the tents proclaiming:

As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

When Adrian came in to work today, he found everything set up already, and Tino behind the bar wearing a graduation cap. The weird thing was, it wasn't even in Fandom High's colors.

"You're a strange man, has anyone ever told you that?" Adrian wondered.

Tino had no answer, probably because he didn't need to be told.

With the ceremony completed and the graduated officially done with their high school careers, a brunch had been planned to celebrate the occasion and allow graduates, their guests, and the other inhabitants of the island to enjoy some good food and good conversation outside. The weather was warm and the sky was clear.

Fraser had been busy helping set up since the early morning hours. Apparently, Dean Stinson had gone a little overboard with some of the food, particularly the cake. The huge sheet cake arrived via truck and, where Fraser thought he'd be able to carry it, ended up having to use a forklift to get it to the park. From there, it took several people to lift the cake onto a table of its own. It was that big. Fraser hoped everyone enjoyed and hoped everyone was prepared to take a lot of cake home.

There were also several other tables of food and drinks, ready to be enjoyed. There were tables and chairs situated around the park, covered by tents to keep it from becoming too warm.

And there was cake. Please don't forget the cake.

Just on the other side of the Causeway, the weather was cool, but in Fandom, a beautiful, warm nearly-summer evening welcomed Fandom's seniors and juniors to their Prom.

A large tent open on one side had been erected in the center of the park. Garlands of small white lights entwined with greenery decorated the edges and roof of the tent, while two of the canvas sides were covered in large pictures of cherry blossoms and the middle had a wall-sized painting of a masquerade. Under the canopy were clusters of little chairs and tables along with the table of food and punch bowl.

Beyond the tent's open wall, a dance floor had been set up on the grass under the conveniently flowering trees. More fairy lights had been wound through the tree branches leaving the area softly lit in most areas. Torches were placed in a few clusters around the dance floor, making flickering areas of brighter light for people to congregate.

A photographer waited for his clients just beyond the dance floor with several backdrops of flowers or masquerades or, oddly, a lemur family to choose from.

The voting box for Prom King and Queen stood right at the entrance to the dance for those last-minute votes.

And, of course for Fandom's Masquerade, a table of elaborately decorated (or some more simple ones) waited for their new owners to simply slip them on and join the revelry.

[OOC: Weather modded with permission. The Prom is open to juniors, seniors, and their dates and definitely open to slowplay. Another post will be going up later this evening set for 10pm-midnight. Prom voting is open until 4pm EDST Please to be waiting for the OCD IS UP! (No thanks to LJ)]

Jaina was not quite herself today, so she would not be opening up the bar. On Monday she was going to have withdrawals from having gone this long without showing up to work.

Tino, however, was completely himself today, and he was looking oh so pleased about having to be here on a day everyone had gone insane again.

...Maybe he'd get a hookup from someone who didn't know any better. That made him feel better.

The staff at Fast Eddie's seemed a little surprised when the decorations started going up.  Apparently this being a bowling alley and pool hall had led them to the conclusion that their establishment was too cool for decorations.  Their objections were noted and then totally ignored by Rose and Emma.  The decorations - not totally overdone but intentionally verging on the edge of tacky - went up.

Also near the entrance was a large pile of moddable tacky hats.  Birthday hats, red hats with purple bows, cowboy hats, bonnets, lime green fedoras, as many type of profoundly silly hats as were able to be acquired on a rather short notice.

The party was started, the place was jumping, and all that was needed was the birthday boy.

It was a new day and there was no better way to start a new day than with the continuation of the carnival. There was still snow coating the ground but the atmosphere was as lively as ever. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.

Tino was pointing to the lounge when Clark arrived at the bar to cover Jaina's shift. Not doing anything about the mess of chairs and tables out of order, or the zombies covered in gauze, just pointing.

What was this after battling green monsters all morning?

Tino was not in a good mood when Adrian got in to work today, and Adrian knew exactly why.

"No one was going to believe you were the boss here for long," Adrian pointed out as he made himself a drink.

Tino just glared and walked off to the back room. Ooh, Adrian might be on his own today.

Even though Alex's break week had started back on Wednesday, it still felt like it was official once the weekend started. To celebrate, he'd slept late, eaten something unhealthy for breakfast and lazed away the hours (all the while thankfully avoiding any mistletoe while Griff was in the room) until he actually realized he had something planned.

So, having already downed half his beer (he was celebrating, after all), Alex was leaning over the pool table and lining up a shot. It was easy enough but his concentration was off or the table was tilted or something and he flubbed the shot, shaking the cue ball off the side.

That just meant he ended up cursing under his breath and deciding that downing the rest of his beer was a good way to make himself feel better. He had great coping skills.

Two parties two nights in a row. Adrian couldn't say he had a problem with this, especially when he could partake of the open bar. (He appreciated it.) After sectioning off the lounge for the party, he even assured a wary-looking Tino that he'd actually work tonight, just to help him out.

Which probably meant if Rose came up for drinks, he would give them to her, but it still counted.

There was plenty of food and punch--not yet spiked--set to the side of the spacious room. Which left plenty of space for the general mulling about that kids were so fond of these days. Or dancing. Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

Alex wasn't really feeling staying in his room tonight but he wasn't feeling like going to the mainland to find something to do. So, he took himself down to Caritas, expecting to find someone to serve him a shitload of drinks so he could get drunk and pass out somewhere.

Of course, when he got to Caritas, the only person there was that weird quiet guy and he was busy glaring at one of the zombies in the band. That zombie was glaring back. After a minute, Alex figured out they were having a damn staring contest and just decided to make himself at home behind the bar.

Chuck had the feeling that some people were looking to drink tonight so he made a point of opening the place a bit early. It wasn't too much of a hassle; he looked good, was dressed well and damn if this wasn't an excuse to show off both. Tino, or, Tina rather wasn't as lucky as Chuck when it came to the looks department when the genderswap happened. And Chuck wasn't letting it go.

"My god, you must be so jealous of me right now," Chuck said, hopping up on to the back counter and crossing his legs all nice and lady-like. "You look like a cross between Steve Buscemi and Ashley Tisdale pre-nose job."

Tino just pouted.
[identity profile] rocksthescarf.livejournal.com
"What are you just sitting around here looking bored for?" Chuck asked. "I'm sure there's something for you to do."

Tino just shrugged. Apparently he had gotten all of his prep work done before Chuck showed up.

Chuck stared at Tino for a second before deliberately knocking a bowl of pretzels onto the floor. "Earn your paycheck."

Tino went around the bar to clean up the mess, grumbling the whole way, while Chuck helped himself to another glass of scotch. He was in such a good mood today.
[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com
It hadn't been that hard to find the only arcade in town and, after getting over the camp of it (he was used to pool tables in bars and dark pool halls, not in brightly lit bowling alleys), found his way to the pool tables. Despite having not played in awhile, Alex still found a stick that suited him easily and got the pool balls racked up quickly.

Alex liked pool for a few reasons. One reason was that he was pretty damn good at it as evidenced by sinking a few balls on the initial break. The other was that the pool sticks made great impromptu weapons if needed. Not that he thought he'd need it here but he always made a note of that type of thing these days. Parental influence was a heavy thing even if he'd deny that to the ends of the Earth.

And pool tended to have a relaxing affect on him. He didn't need that so much now but it was still nice to be relaxed every so often.

When Ben showed up at the bar, Tino gave him a sign to put up. It said 'Party -->'

"Really?" Ben asked as he put the sign up by the back room. "Just 'party' and an arrow?" Tino shrugged. "It just seems kind of lackluster, you know?" Tino shrugged again. "At least break out a balloon or something. What kind of party is it?" Tino shrugged and possibly mumbled something about a TV. "I changed my mind. The sign doesn't need a balloon. You do. I'm getting you one next week, Mister Grumpy."

Well, apparently Ben actually was given a job last week. He wasn't sure it counted when the old boss was leaving a couple days after offering the job, but Tino was waiting for Ben when he showed up tonight.

He'd had a few practice runs as a bartender here, so this wasn't going to be tough. At least, it wasn't until Tino started trying to haze the new guy. "Look, I know you can't use the paddle in here. Just put it away."

Tino refused.

It was kind of creepy.

The picnic shelters were decorated with gold streamers, of both the crepe paper and shiny metallic sort, and the appetizing scent of breakfast foods grilled by NPC staff filled the air. Bright summer flowers were draped over anything you could drape bright summer flowers over, with far less subtlety than there'd been at the dance, since this was out in the open air and people could get away from them if they so chose.

The sounds of summer in musical form -- not chosen by the provider of the flowers, no -- played lightly in the background.

While the students had been completing their last finals, an NPC staff had been hard at work converting one of the empty warehouses into the site of tonight's dance. When the guests arrived this evening, they'd be greeted by a long yellow carpet, leading up to the open glass doors of the warehouse.

Once inside, they would find the space brightly decorated to celebrate the summer season. Gold drapes covered the walls, splashed liberally with glitter to make them sparkle in the low lights of the warehouse. Flowers were placed here and there, not overwhelming but definitely noticeable and fragrant. Images of beaches, palm trees, sunsets, sunrises, hammocks, and other various summer images were being projected on the walls randomly.

A long table consisting of food and drinks was along one wall, providing plenty of sustenance for everyone for their long night of fun. Dark corners could be found here and there, of course. There was music playing and a disco balls projecting light onto the dance floor.

It was time for the summer dance.

Luckily for him it looked like she was taking the day off. Which meant Chuck had free reign over the bar mwahahahaha.

There was a table set up with all sorts of drinks and things to nibble on. There was flowers. It was blatantly obvious that Edward expected a lot of people to show up—dear lord, she hoped no one did—and Ino crossed her arms over her chest and watched all of this resignedly.

It was really really hard to look anything but waifish and adorable in a pink dress with silver heels. Especially when you were blonde and tiny. Ino was giving it her best shot. The only reason she was even dressed up because she’d decided that morning that, it was better to look the part, really, and try to salvage some of her pride.

Ino was attempting to glare, but the sight of Edward running around (and what was up with the prince-clothing and purple cape? Seriously?) and fussing with the platform they were to sing on—where had he found a platform?!—was tugging a reluctant smile out of her.

He was just so happy. He’d loved her dress, and that she’d shown up, and that she was going to sing with him—oh glorious day!—and Ino… had lost track of the lecture she’d spent most of the night planning around the third spin of his glee. Crushing his spirits would be like kicking a puppy.

Embarrassment it was, then. Just as soon as he thought everything was perfect. She, for her part, was studiously pretending that this was her idea, no really, and she was totally okay with it. Really. Totally her idea. Honest.

[Edward modded with permission, naturally! Wait for the OCD is uuuup!]

[ETA: Because it’s getting larger, have links to the separate parts: The Duet! (And Other Songs) The Gawkers! Refreshments Mingle with the singers! OOC]

It was Chuck Bass's birthday and by god Blair was going to throw him a party.

By the time sunset arrived a section of the beach had been turned into a party zone. Green silk curtains had been hung up to help define the party space (and provide some privacy for anyone who wanted it). There were tables of food and drink entirely moddable which included Chuck's favorites and product-placed Vitamin Water as well as the birthday cake.

Music was playing, fires were lit to help keep things warm - all in all not a bad little birthday party on the beach.

All that remained was the party goers and the birthday boy.

[ocd is up!]

Ben had decided to come to the bar tonight. The old guy never worked on Thursdays, so Ben wouldn't be roped into working in his place tonight.

"Hey, Tino," Ben said, taking a seat. "Where's Robin tonight?"

Tino answered by throwing Ben an apron.

"Dammit," Ben said. "I'm going to stop coming here one of these days, you know."

Tino just shrugged.

[OOC: I'm around!]
