Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

Welcome to your 2011 Homecoming Dance!

As was traditional, the start of the end of Parents' Weekend featured plenty of food, benches, chairs, and coffee in the park. After all, the Student Council couldn't let the parents be weirded out one last time without a feast.

The sky was a little overcast, but the temperatures were still above normal, which was a lucky break for the final day of the weekend.

[OOC: Have fun!]

This infernal rain would not let on. There was a steady drip that made Dilios' red warrior's cloak heavy on his shoulders. Even the eyepatch covering the left side of his face was soaked through, but Dilios did not let it bother him. The constant patter of the rain on his heavy bronze shield was almost cheering. They did not get much weather like this in Sparta and so Dilios stood, vigil even in this strange place.

Remember us, the rain seemed to tell him and perhaps that was why he was here. To tell of Leonidas and his 300. Of the Spartans who he fought with side by side, but whose grave he did not share.

[Open for rain drenched park needs or anyone wishing to run into a soaked Spartan.]

Although the weekend was almost over, the esteemed alumni of Fandom High were not getting away without one last get-together. The park had been deemed too cold for the event, so the community center had been set up again with tasteful blue and yellow streamers and real flowers on the tables, although there might have been a few paper flowers still lying around from last night too.

There was plenty of food just waiting to be eaten, and if someone asked nicely, they might be able to acquire a drink or two as well. It was five o'clock somewhere.

If anyone could recall the dance from the night before, they would have thought that it was decorated tastefully compared to what was going on tonight. There were streamers, balloons and what appeared to be paper flower ornaments everywhere. All done in yellow and blue for the proud graduates of Fandom High, of course.

And there were the 'classic' songs from twenty years ago blaring loudly for people to dance or cringe to. Who knew Ke$ha and Justin Bieber would get to be classic pop music for future generations?

Just be glad there is an open bar.

Today's Showing!
Snarled

Yes, there was a Disney movie playing at the theater today. Which made it the best time for a vampire and a ranger to attempt a date. Oh yeah, that was a recipe for a good time.

Just as long as any of the NPC ushers didn't try to take away the thermos of coffee a certain someone had brought along. Soda was in no way a suitable replacement. Nor was popcorn. Because that ended up getting stuck in fangs and no one wanted to deal with that.

Maladicta gave the sign a wary look before turning toward the doors. "That is a truly unfortunate name."

[[For that guy, but the theater is open for your needs as well]]

Even though it was daytime, the "dolphins in space" theme had been carried over to the brunch. The mural was nowhere to be found, but inside the tent that had been set up to give everyone a shady place to gather, there were silver and blue metallic streamers and balloons hung up, and each of the tables had a blue flower arrangement on it.

There were no fish to be found though, unless you counted what could be on the food table. Honestly, that might not really be fish either.

Alex was a little sad to be back in his normal body. He didn't much mind being a girl and it helped that he was hot and knew it. Waking up in bed with Effy and getting to see her rack while a girl just proved he was a charming mofo, girl or guy.

Alex wondered if he should ask about Tino's shenanigans during the weird gender flip but then he realized he didn't want to know that. Thinking about it made him shudder. And then he just glared at Tino for no reason.

Jaina had to work today, so no mixer for her. She wasn't sure how many people she'd get in here tonight with that going on, but at the very least she had a Zekk with her. One she was occasionally glowering at after she'd heard about him going to see John.

Everyone else would get a non-glowery girl, though. Probably. You never knew with her.

There was a sign posted at the front door:

G.O.B. Bluth Presents:
The Ninth Annual
Three Minute Dates @ Caritas

hosted by A Matchmaker Named G.O.B.

GOB had somehow been able to count to nine despite not being around for the previous six Three Minute Dates, but he still didn't know what 'annual' really meant. But that wasn't important. The important thing was that at 6:00 precisely, the ligts went out and the Zombie Band started playing a familiar intro.

A burst of smoke hit the stage and the matchmaker named GOB stepped through it to make his grand entrance. A flick of each wrist and he was holding a deck of cards in each hand: all hearts. Except for a single four of clubs. GOB started moonwalking backwards, except he wasn't very good at it so it was more like walking backward with a limp. He clapped his hands together and from the cards fell burst forth a dead live dove, which GOB picked up and threw off the stage toward the bar swooped over the audience and hit Tino after bouncing off the bar attacked Tino.

"WELCOME TO CARITAS!" GOB yelled to the crowd as the music continued. "WELCOME! TO THREE MINUTE DATES!" He turned around and pointed to the back of the stage where a too-large banner dropped, showing the top half of 'THREE MINUTE DATES' while the rest was still rolled up on the stage floor. "I am GOB, your Once and Future Matchmaker. Here are the rules: I call your name and the name of somebody else. You two get together and make goo goo eyes at each other for a few minutes, and then I make a fireball appear to let you know it's time for the next round."

Tino had checked the fireball launcher GOB kept in his sleeve. Twice. It was as safe as it could possibly be.

"After the roaring sound of magical fire, I'll call out some more names and we do it again until we've done it five times. And if you don't like any of your dates, let me know and we can do it five more times in my hotel room." GOB could be as subtle as a bar on fire, something which Tino really wanted to avoid. Now let's get on with this stuff." As GOB started to reach for his notecards with the round one pairings, a quick burst of flame shot across his chest. "Huh. Shot off a little early. But I won't, ladies." Very subtle.

[OOC: Three minutes = ten comments total, five per person. You don't need to do your threads chronologically, but try not to Joss yourself.

Epic OCD is beginning. For the love of god, please wait until I'm done. GO FORTH AND PLAY! If I made a blatant mistake, like skipping a character completely for a round or posting a pairing twice or accidentally making incest happen WHICH TOTALLY DID NOT NEARLY HAPPEN, AHEM, feel free to grab me on AIM or in the OOC thread and I'll make a quick fix. Remember, attacks on your dates will get you teleported elsewhere on the island.

Also remember that most playing should happen on Saturday, but if you need to finish a thread or two on Sunday, that's fine.

And, um, yes, this is Post 1 of 2. RECORD SETTING SIGN UPS CAUSED THIS!]

Once the bell or buzzer or windchime or fireball went off for the last time and the dates were all over, Jaina took her place back behind the bar for actual work. Might as well stick around and help out with anyone who wanted to chat with someone they might have clicked with on their dates, or to serve anyone who just wandered in once everything was done.

Tino was also available if anyone needed him. He was dateless enough to do it.

[This is the regular Caritas post after Three Minute Dates (post one and post two). Those who were in the event can use this post to mingle afterward, and the post is totally open for anyone who just wanted to come in and drink regardless of the people flirting with each other in three-minute increments.]

Hard to believe only nine minutes had passed since this all started, huh? The daters were still dating, hopefully no one had been transported outside due to trying to attack anyone they had to deal with for three minutes, and all they had to do was survive two more rounds before they could hit the bar.

Happy dating!

Faramir was early to meet with Maladicta, but that allowed him time to explore the not-tavern. Which he soon found out did not have much to explore, but the boy behind the counter was giving him a dirty look.

"Are you ordering or just gawking?" he asked, apparently unconcerned by the leather jerkin or the sword Faramir was carrying. This was Fandom, he'd seen it all.

"I am... waiting," Faramir decided, not to impressed by the hospitality of this shop so far.

"For what? For your order to magically come to you?"

No, he really wasn't impressed with it. "For my friend."

"You can order something and wait for him-her-whatever," the boy suggested, irritably.

Faramir cast a look at the board which he guessed held their menu, but really even if he would be able to read it fluently, he wouldn't know what any of it was. "I would rather wait," he replied, his voice firmer now.

"Suit yourself," the boy rolled his eyes and disappeared to the back of the shop.

Shaking his head a little, Faramir found himself a seat which would conveniently put his back to the counter.

[Faramir is here for Maladicta, but he's totally pokable and the Perk is, of course, open for any other coffee needs.]
[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com
Faramir led his horse by its rein, the earth soil under his feet became harder and he glanced down to see the road was paved all of a sudden and the scent of the ocean filled the air. He quickly glanced back and Mithrandir gave him an encouraging nod. Boromir's look was much darker, his eyebrows drawn together as he frowned. Faramir could easily read his concern, but he forced a smile on his face. He would be fine.

He turned his gaze back to the island that stretched out in front of him. The buildings were strange and the castle that looked out over the small city was build in a fashion Faramir hadn't seen before. He tugged Baru along and they crossed the bridge. To the side, there stood several armoured wains and Faramir couldn't imagine what use they'd have in battle as the drivers would be locked up in them.

Drawing in a breath, he glanced back behind him once more, but his brother and Mithrandir had disappeared and he knew with a strange certainty that if he were to cross, he wouldn't reach Gondor.

"On we go then. To the castle," he murmured to Baru. He stayed on foot, one hand on the rein and the other resting lightly on the hilt of his sword.

[Open, sure sure. He could use directions to the stables.]
