The artist was coming over, which, of course, meant that the roommate needed an evacuation of the bedroom. For the most part, Adah didn't particularly mind. The urge to remain and be annoying like she and Leah had, once upon a time, planned on doing should Rachel ever bring a boy home, but that lost its appeal when she considered the fact that Leah wasn't exactly there with her and she wasn't exactly fourteen anymore. That sort of killed some of it.

So she became displaced. Since there were only about four places Adah ever went, that made the replacement relatively easy, and, there she was, at the Perk, getting work out of her well-honed balance of book and tea. Curled up in one of those wonderful comfortable arm chairs, she was idly reading through one of the books she'd gotten for the Eel for Christmas. Hey. She hadn't given them to him yet, and they were otherwise just sitting there. Couldn't let them go to waste, could she?

Anne was in a bit of a bother. It was not, as she was wont to call such monumentally disastrous occasions, a 'Jonah day,' but it was distressing nonetheless. Christmas back home in Avonlea had been wonderful, and she had returned to Fandom long enough to take care of a final few things; this was the source of the conundrum with which she now found herself confronted.

How did one inform one's employer that one's term of service must end in the modern world, anyhow?

This would be why, should anyone chance to venture into the store today, they would find Anne behind the counter, vigorously scribbling away at any one of countless drafts of the letter she was attempting to write.
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
Anne was a very active employee today, scurrying to set out the tea and pastries and making sure that everything in the shop was in tip-top shape for opening.

She was preoccupied with trying to figure out which books to bring home for Christmas presents for everyone at Green Gables and her friends in Avonlea -- of course she couldn't bring home anything from past her time, but there were still ever so many options to choose from, and for the first time in her life she felt rather beleaguered by the variety available on the shelves.

It wasn't a feeling she was sure she liked, on the one hand, but on the other it was ever so nice to have that many choices.
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
Anne had a letter from Diana in hand as she opened the store today, as well as a letter from Queens Academy about her admission status.

Both of them received a great deal of thought and mulling over once she had set out the tea and pastries and settled into her chair.
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
Anne had a matcha green tea latte clutched in her hands today as she opened the store, one that she had only been persuaded to put down by dint of sheer necessity, two free hands being needed to prepare the tea and lay out the pastries before settling down in her favorite chair to enjoy her beverage.

She felt that her impulsiveness, by prompting her to visit the Perk on her way to work this morning, had served her well for once.

[OOC: AFK an hour or so while I go get my car washed, but I should be around all evening after that, give or take a patch of AFK here and there.]

Feeling perhaps a little bit overambitious today, Anne got to work early and set about brewing three different kinds of tea, as well as arranging the pastries in what she flattered herself was a very artistic pattern, the whole spread adorned with flowers and decorative twigs.

Once satisfied with her work, she turned the sign in the window to "Open" and settled in her favorite chair to plug away at her hated mathematics. If anything, she consoled herself by painting the entire exercise as something self-sacrificing and valiant.

Anne had spent the best part of her weekend in bed, recovering from the aftereffects of her illness; despite her brave words to Chris on Friday night, she had not been as hale and hearty as she would have liked, and it still took her more effort than was strictly desirable to make her way down to the bookstore, set out the tea and pastries, and open for customers.

True, almost everyone had made it through the ordeal, but with Matthew's heart problems weighing heavier and heavier on her mind, she was beginning to think that it might be time to go home soon.

Growing up and having to think of these things might have seemed romantic once upon a time, but as she was beginning to realize, they were, in their own way, quite awful.

Katara was almost completely unconscious in a cot but the Town Hall's makeshift hospital was ticking over like a well-oiled machine.  Even as volunteers and doctors grew more and more tired, their dedication still won out as each patient was tended to carefully.

[OOC:  And this is the last hospilinic post!  The researchers are very close to a cure which will be administered over the course of the evening (IG and OOC).  Please do be sure to ping in your sickies so they can get cured!]

Christian hated feeling this helpless. The number of patients were growing, and nothing was relieving their symptoms. Even the kids with their magic mumbo jumbo could only bring fevers down for a short time.

He didn't want to admit defeat, but things were not looking good.

[ooc: Wait for the OCD! May take a few minutes as we have another space on the floral T-day bingo card. And, also, the huge pile of sick people. OCD is up, you may commence being ill.]

Doogie was not at all happy about how the emergency clinic looked when he came in. There were too many people there, too many students, not to mention the baby, and he had a moment of feeling helpless before he pulled himself together and got down to business. There had to be something that could be done to help everyone.

[OCD of doom is up! I'm heading home right now, so if there are any problems, e-mail me at celestialnature@gmail.com and I'll fix them around 7:15 when I get home. Tags will be added then too.]

Christian was upset when he found out one of the kids had died the day before and was pissed at himself for taking the day off. The island had been through a lot while he'd been here, but one of the kids dying was unacceptable. He was frustrated by his inability to reach anyone outside the island. No ordering more supplies, no consulting with contagious disease experts. If it had only been the adults sick he might have been trying to head for the hills to save his own ass, but he wasn't about to abandon the kids. They had to find a way to stop this. Especially because now a baby was sick.

[ooc: Plz wait for the massive OCD is up! Thursday mornings are a little crazy here, so I will probably be SP until noon or so. Comment notifications are off, so ping me in the OOC thread if you need me.

*pokes mods* Need tags for Harriet Jones and Grace Winchester, please!]

Wilson had gotten a briefing from Troy before coming in today and had already shut down his OMGWTFPlllllaaaggggguuuuueee response in favor of being able to actually function as a doctor.

Slipping a mask over his mouth almost immediately, he grabbed up charts and began to walk through the cots, getting an update on everyone's status. Next up would be making sure the volunteers were organized and that people who were sitting bedside vigil were taking care of themselves and not starting to show symptoms

[ooc: OCDS will be coming presently are up, you may now continue to enjoy your plague.]

Wyatt had been prepared for the sight of several flu victims, but he didn't expect it to be this bad. He counted at least 15 beds, and who knew if the people tending to them would get sick as well. He conferred briefly with Dr. Troy to find out what procedures they had in place, grabbed a mask, and got to work.

[ooc: Christian modded without permission! I will be AFK for an hour and a half or so, so clinic volunteers, please keep an eye on patients and new arrivals if you don't mind. I should be back by 8:00 PM EST at the latest, and you can ping me on AIM as Chaos of Passion or belthazor FH or via email (kajivar@gmail). OCD forthcoming is up! Now in the correct comm!]

A very pensive Anne it was who opened the bookstore today, the letter from home still clutched in one hand. So preoccupied was she with the news from Green Gables that she made a dreadful mess of the tea service on her first three attempts, and was forced to clean up the sad remains of one fallen and broken scone as she laid out the pastries.

Matthew's heart had been more troublesome of late, and it made her uneasy about staying so far away from home; but in the meantime, there was work to be done, so she set the Open sign in the window and settled in to study her hated mathematics.

Studying, though, might well be abandoned in favor of a great deal of staring out the window, preoccupied in thought.
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
Anne hurried into the shop a few minutes late, having had an overlong conversation with a particularly intriguing tree in the park on her way from the dorms.

She quickly laid out the tea and pastries, then settled in the chair with her Latin texts, only to spend more time thinking than studying. She was coming close to learning all she possibly could by correspondence, and she couldn't put college and teaching off forever.
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
Rhe fact that she had had no visitors coming in for the weekend was a very good thing indeed, as far as Anne was concerned, as she feared that even her imagination would not suffice to explain away the . . . quirkier aspects of the island to any visitors from home, and what few glimpses she had caught of classmates and their families through her dorm room window only bore up that conclusion.

She was in quite a good mood as she opened the bookstore this morning, and spent an extra half hour arranging the pastries into an artful display accentuated by floral sprigs and carefully plucked leaves.

Unfortunately, so caught up was she in this endeavour that she ruined the first pot of tea and had to brew a second; regardless, she considered the end result aesthetically pleasing enough that no mere ruined pot of tea could put a damper on her day.

Pleased with herself, Anne turned the sign to "OPEN" and sat down in the window chair with several Latin grammar texts, for break week or not there was studying to be done.
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
Grateful for a second quiet week in a row, Anne set out the tea and pastries for customers before helping herself to a scone and a cup of lychee red tea (a new and much-beloved discovery) and settling down to work on her Latin in the chair by the window.

[OOC: I demand to know when I suddenly started having things to do on weekends, WTF.]
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
Anne, utterly unmindful of any goings-on this weekend (she had been quite determined to make this weekend as uneventful as last weekend had been eventful), finally emerged from her room after a full weekend of diligent Greek study and went into town to open the bookstore.

She did spare a brief thought to wonder at all the unfamiliar faces around town today, but as soon as the tea and pastries were laid out on the counter and she was settled in the chair by the window with Ovid's Metamorphoses and a notebook and pen, she quite forgot all about that mystery.

[OOC: Just as a caveat, I have no idea how much I'll be around for the next four hours or so . . .]
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
Anne had a notebook and several pens in hand as she opened the bookstore today, thankfully without the spectre of ominous cake-headed-monster dreams to taint it. (But then, last week's mortification had certainly been enough.)

Tea and pastries carefully set out -- and artfully adorned with a few flowers and branches gathered in the park on her way over -- she settled herself in a chair by the window to work on a list of recommended reading for Beauty.

It was going to be a very long list.

[OOC: HI guess who just woke up? Oops. I shall be running out to do errands from about 5-6:30 EST but around otherwise.]
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
It took Anne a few extra minutes to get the bookstore opened up today, owing to an unfortunate incident involving a daydream, a feather duster, and letting the first pot of tea steep far too long.

Nevertheless, ruffled but undaunted, she set out the tea and pastries and settled down in a chair by the window with a stack of cookbooks and an ambitious glint in her eye.

[OOC: And barring any crazy unforeseen emergencies, I should actually be around today, and not drop off the face of the earth.]
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
Anne was, perhaps not unexpectedly, a bit high-strung and flushed as she dashed down to town and opened the bookstore for her very first shift. She had spent most of last night in a fretful daze that culminated in all-too-vivid dreams about being chased around by a fearful monster with a book for a head -- after which Anne had woken up feeling quite betrayed.

At any rate, she arrived early, spent a meticulous twenty minutes setting out the tea and pastries (and making doubly and triply sure that there was no currant wine lurking about disguised as raspberry cordial), and settled down comfortably with a cup of tea for herself and an old favorite collection of Tennyson's poems.
