Another week, another excursion back to Jono's own reality, to do more training with the New Warriors. The moment he returned to the island, he decided that he was going to do something that didn't constitute work. And so returning home to the Boards right away? Right out.

He'd found himself a table by the window this evening, and was nursing a cup of coffee as he looked idly out at the people passing by on the street. Fandom's idea of 'bustle' was far less hustle than New York, but that was refreshing, really. After a few days of alternating between Jubilee's astoundingly hard-ass training regimen and making faces at posters glorifying the Initative while trying to stay out of notice in plain sight, Jono could really handle a bit of hustle-free bustle.

And maybe some cream in his coffee. Whoever brewed this batch put enough grounds in to make it strong enough to sit up and bark.

[Open Perk! Hi!]

Another day, another dollar, or so the phrase went. That was Hayley's attitude as she flitted about her duties as head waitress at Cafe Luke's that day. She didn't know what to think about all the graduation events and new semester and everything. She mainly planned on not thinking about it at all.

Disregarding last year's meadfest with their friends the Vikings, it was a fine Fandom tradition that the graduation day was followed up by a grad brunch on Sunday, and this year was no exception.

The weather was okay, and a feast had been laid out in the park. A banner spelling out CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2012 hung from the trees, and there were tables and chairs spread all around, some covered by tents and some not. And at the center of it all, naturally as at any good Fandom event, were the tables of moddable foods and drinks.

Even cake. Fandom High graduation ceremonies might have been things of surprise dropbear terror, but the school did take care of its own when it came to food. It was a very good time for the graduates, along with their classmates, friends and families, not to mention random townsfolk, to gather and celebrate yet another class making its way through the challenge knowns as high school.

Hayley Fitzpatrick was somewhat back to her normal, cheerful self. The play had gone well, and she was managing to forget about more than a few of her woes and tribulations.

The other staff, on the other hand, thought they were funny. Hayley didn't understand the theme at all, but she rarely did. She just went with the flow.

It had been a while, but once again the Boards was gearing up for an opening night:

The Petey Sci-Fi Talky Picture!
Please no throwing rice on stage.
Well, okay, if you must.

Tickets were for sale at the door, along with audience participation kits. And yes, you better believe that the one selling the tickets was armed with a tube of lipstick so that he could mark Petey Sci-Fi virgins with a V on their foreheads if this was their first time seeing the show.

In the participation kits, one could expect to find flashlights, toilet paper, playing cards, toast, a newspaper, squirt guns... The usual fare, really. If people didn't know what to do with any of the above, there was even a handy audience participation guide included.

The cast was set. The crew was set. The costumes were scandalous and the music was loud.

The Lord said, let there be lips.

And there were. And they were good.

It could be said that Jonothon was a creature of impulse. He did, after all, have a temper on him. And a sense of get-up-and-go that had put him into some of the worst situations he'd been in, some of the worst he was ever likely to be in.

And sometimes, his impulses just told him that he wanted to feed the ducks.

Not that there were any ducks awake at this time of night. There was a chill in the air and the stars were out, though, and Jono was okay with contenting himself to sit on the bench and watch the clouds drift over the moon, instead. He'd probably be there a while. It wasn't like he was any good at actually sleeping at nights, after all.

[OOC: Open for anyone who happens to be up this late. I can't sleep, either. Good night for method RP.]

G.O.B. Bluth Presents:
Three Minute Dates at Caritas
hosted by A Matchmaker Named G.O.B.

That's right. It was time for Three Minute Dates once again. Come one, come all, for your speed dating and getting drunk before speed dating!

At 8:00 promptly, the lights went dark. And then, The Final Countdown began... but there was no GOB. After a minute, he rushed the stage in a panic. "Wait, this is tonight? Isn't this [microphone feedback] usually on Saturdays? Wait, today's Sunday? I have no [microphone feedback]ing idea what day it is."

"Ahem. Thank you, everyone, for coming out here out tonight. This is Three Minute Dates. And I am, of course, a Matchmaker Named GOB." He waited for applause..... and then continued. "When I or somebody else, probably Tino, who knows? calls your name, find a table with the other person whose name was called and get to talking and see if you want to make babies within three minutes. Because after three minutes, you'll hear this sound."

A zombie keytarist hit a key that started to play a recorded sound of bed springs... springing... suggestively. Love was in the keytar, apparently.

"And that's when it'll be time to move on to your next date. Got it? Good. Now just remember, if you're a lady 18 or older who doesn't like your options, I'm a solid backup plan. You can find me at the bar after the dates, or just come on up whenever you want."

When people arrived to the Boards for rehearsal today, they'd see that Jono had brought along... well, a measuring tape. You know. For reasons.

"Today, we're going to get started by working our way through the first scenes of the script," he said, nodding to the group assembled. "That would be the wedding scene, Garnet and Lad on their way to the castle, and the Time Warp."

Because, so help him, he just wanted to get a start on the Time Warp.

"Any lines that belong to supporting characters will be handed to members of the chorus, which gives some of you an opportunity to speak at the wedding. And, for anyone who doesn't know, it's a jump to the left, and a step to the right."

He was helpful like that.

"I've also brought the measuring tape along, so that people can start taking measurements. Costumes for our lingerie roles will be supplied by Dite's, and we'll need those measurements in because some of them are going to need to be ordered in specially for the show."

He was looking at you, Herc. Guy.

Ah, the first day of rehearsals at the Boards. It was just the sort of thing to make Jono show up looking... if not happy then at least slightly less grumpy than usual, with a stack of scripts in his arms complete with sheet music. It might have been the therapeutic smashing of creepy dolls with a crowbar that had him in such a good mood. Or maybe it was the sheet music that did it for him. Even Sweet Transvestite could be soothing if it was played well, damn it.

Really, if you wanted happy, you need look no further than Troy: the fluster and panic of a first rehearsal was generally guaranteed to have a smile fixed on his face. "This is going to be awesome," he said to Jono, as an aside. Turning to the gathered performers, he added, "Hey, everyone, thanks for making it out! I hope you're all excited for this -- I know we are!"

"Before we get started, I have the scripts here," Jonothon's excited face looked much the same as his 'Yes, I certainly do appear to be awake today' face. "There's enough for each of you to take one, and you can feel free to make as many notes in the margins or mark them up however you see fit. They're yours to keep. Today, we're going to just be acquainting ourselves with the script and the music of the show, since I know a good many of you showed up for auditions without even the faintest idea what in the world you were getting yourselves into."

Which had amused Jonothon to no end, really, but they were in a show with underwear and dry humping, and he was going to have to break it to them sooner or later, after all.

Underwear, dry humping, incest, cannibalism... Really, what didn't the show have? "At some point," Troy continued, "I was thinking we could watch the movie all together, but I want to get rehearsals underway first so that we're not locked into that as the 'right way' to do things. Theater's not about that. The movie's iconic, yeah, but with a live show like this, what you all bring to the roles is just as important as how someone may have played it once before."

"So, everybody grab a script," Jono said, "and take a seat. We'll do a read-through of the script, pausing for the musical numbers, which we'll just play on CD for this one rehearsal so that you get a feel for the vocals. If any of you have any concerns or questions about any of this, feel free to ask Troy or myself during the read-through, or to grab one of us after rehearsal. Shall we begin?"

[Open rehearsal! Script (with audience participation cues just 'cause) is here. Cast list is here. Yaaaaaaaay!]

Today, Nathan had bet Tino a month's pay that he couldn't go up on stage and sing Bette Milder's most famous song and get a standing ovation from the zombie band. Tino, being a dumbass, took the bet (because money was money) and was now up there belting the song out like a twat.

Since they'd had so much fun with last week's Elvis theme for Hayley, this week the staff at Cafe Luke's put together a theme around another 60s icon - though one that was only just starting to rise to popularity in Hayley's time.

Though she had to admit, she loved that the staff was making her feel so welcome. And hey, while they weren't exactly Elvis, she happened to like the four guys that made of the theme of the daily specials. Though she didn't quite get all the references as they were from albums she'd not yet heard...

Bo was waaaay too smart to fall for the "Tiny drank it, therefore it's safe" trap this time. Or she would have been, if Tiny were actually here and trying it out on her.

Instead of Tiny, there was a woman looming beside the doorway who was incredibly tall, incredibly butch, and ... kind of cute in a terrifying way. There was a hand-lettered Hi, My Name Is sticker affixed to her impressively mountainous chest.

It said Tina.

It fooled no one.

Bo owed Tiny one or five, though, so she was keeping her mouth shut, enjoying the extra three inches of height her new boots afforded her, and finally filling out that damned OKStupid profile on her phone. For the LOLs.

"The first things people usually notice about me..."

Yeah, she looked down.

So, last night's romantic musical cartoon about unicorns was not the light-hearted affair she'd been hoping for. Umm, at all. The romance didn't even get a happy ending. So, Karla was spending her shift trying to find another movie that she could watch instead. So far, she'd found one about bunnies that looked promising (because what could go wrong with bunnies on an adventure?), and another that sounded like a heartwarming tale about a man and his pet mouse.

The search was taking longer than it should, however. Maybe it was because she was on the work computer, but most of the results that came back were most definitely NOT what she was looking for.

Though the store's inventory could benefit from a few, no doubt.

Pulling her leather jacket tighter around her shoulders, Hayley Fitzpatrick went and crouched at the edge of the duck pond. She watched her breath in the cold air, rubbed her red-wool-gloved hands together for a bit more warmth. It wasn't any colder than it could get in Gotham, this time of year, but then again she tried not to spend too much time outside during the winter in Gotham.

She stayed for a moment, looking past her breath into pond itself. Thoughts whirled in her head. Doubts, anxieties, fears, wants, desires. All the questions she had for herself, why did she leave Gotham, what was she wanting here, why hadn't she called any of her old friends? There weren't answers in the pond, in the cold, and she didn't have any answers for herself in her head, either.

She reached into the pocket of her jacket, tugged at the red silk hood that she kept in there. Why was it she felt better with the mask on than she did as plain old Hayley Fitzpatrick? Another question she didn't have an answer for. She sighed a bit and stayed there at the edge of the pond, trying to answer all those questions in her head.

In her red silk hood and leather jacket, it was a new figure that patrolled the rooftops of Fandom that night. Old habits, even ones not that old, died hard. So even while this wasn't exactly the crime plagued streets of Gotham, Red Hood was on the job, to make sure no one did anything bad.

Her stealth, however, was limited as she kept singing "Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, Ratman!" as she went from rooftop to rooftop.

The place was open tonight, and hopefully people had actually heard about or seen the signs for the Over 18 party. Otherwise... this was going to be lame, oops.

The bar was open in case anyone wanted to drink (imagine that), and the floor in the back room had been mostly cleared with the tables pushed back so people could mingle or eventually sleep if they ended up not wanting to trudge home later.

And there was a sign out.

It had been a bit of a crazy idea, but Hayley had done it. Without so much as a word to Roy, Bruce, anyone at all in Gotham, she'd packed up a duffel bag of her most important possessions and she'd called for a portal back to Fandom. She hadn't told Elle, Karla, no one knew she was coming. She'd let that be a surprise for later.

Of course, as she arrived at the edge of the causeway and pulled her leather jacket closer to her, she realized there was one big flaw in this plan: she had nowhere to stay, no job, and not a whole lot of money.

She did have a red silk hood and a crowbar in her duffel bag, but those really didn't help with anything other than stopping crime. So with a deep breath, she was ready to set off to find a place to go...

[ooc: Open post if anyone wants to catch her at the causeway!]

Yei was racing around the store today and Hinata thought that she was chasing the dust bunnies but wasn't entirely sure of that. She didn't bother to deliberately find out, however, as some things were more entertaining as mysteries and watching Yei be happy was enough to lift her mood slightly.

She tidied up the store and set out tea for any visitors that might come by, and then settled in to continue working on her wording of a letter. Some things, truly, had to be phrased just so.

Book Haven is Open.

Every once in awhile there were deliveries to the bar to restock. Usually Tino took care of them, but Jessica was bored this evening and decided to open up the newly arrived cases herself, only to stare in confusion at the contents.

"What the fuck am I supposed to do with white lawn chairs?" she muttered to herself. "Not like it's warm enough to sit outside or anything." Unless you were a werepenguin like Bobby.
[identity profile] redheadbabyvamp.livejournal.com
Jessica wasn't entirely sure coming to work was a good idea the way she'd been feeling. Being horny was one thing, but even if she could find a cute and willing boy, she didn't think she could trust herself not to bite him. And then Sookie would get all mad at her again.

She was even eyeing Tino with appreciation. He, on the other hand, was keeping his distance.

Even though it was daytime, the "dolphins in space" theme had been carried over to the brunch. The mural was nowhere to be found, but inside the tent that had been set up to give everyone a shady place to gather, there were silver and blue metallic streamers and balloons hung up, and each of the tables had a blue flower arrangement on it.

There were no fish to be found though, unless you counted what could be on the food table. Honestly, that might not really be fish either.

With the day off from work, Hayley made her way back across the causeway on her new-to-her, previously owned bicycle. It wasn't spectacular but it got her around. Plus, it was red, and that made it a great bike.

So, after finding a nice patch of grass to lie down on, she pulled out her cell phone and texted her friends so that they'd know she was here for the afternoon.

Hopefully no one would be mad that she'd kind of disappeared, earlier.

[ooc: Open park is open, and if you think Hayley would've texted your character, she did.]
[identity profile] onlysmokesnics.livejournal.com
Hayley didn't believe in park benches. Well, not like one needed to believe in them, like if you didn't they'd all cease to exist and everyone would have to clap their hands to revive benches back into the world. But right now, Hayley preferred the soft feel of the grass against the back of her head, her arms, her legs. Lying back against the grass in a t-shirt and shorts, she read from a mainland newspaper in the classifieds. She needed to find an apartment, and fast.

Eventually she shut the newspaper and just looked up into the sky. Her face was a bit sore, as were her wrists, but there was something just joyous in feeling free. Free and safe.

She had no idea what the GCPD were doing right now with Nygma. She just hoped he got what he deserved.

[ooc: Open post!]
[identity profile] onlysmokesnics.livejournal.com
Hayley didn't even have the nerves to look the GCPD officers in the eye. The fact that a Gotham City police squad car was taking her off the island, it was just demoralizing. At least they let her put her suitcases in the trunk.

They gave her a nod of acknowledgment when she asked if she could wait a moment in case anyone wanted to say goodbye. While she thought that she might come back, she was completely worried that they'd lock her up forever.

So Hayley, she was treating this like it was the big goodbye.

[ooc: Hayley's last post before going alum (and the plot will be thickening. Muhuahaha). Handwavey voicemails will have gone out that morning telling her friends about leaving and where to say goodbye (but not explaining why), so feel free to mod receiving one. tl;dr, post is open!]

As the night went on, an assortment of prom favours were replacing the masks on the table just inside the tent. Everyone was free to take a picture frame and disposable camera to record their own Prom memories. Also were shot glasses with the Fandom High gremlin on them. Such things happened when Dean Stinson was the Student Council advisor.

The punch was thoroughly spiked by now, but the dessert table had been refilled o soaking up all that alcohol was a definite possibility. The music would still be playing for a few hours for all to get in as much dancing and time to be with their friends as they wanted.

And in just a moment, Dean Stinson was going to announce the Prom Court.

Karla was starting to have a Bad Feeling about this. Not a Black Widow bad feeling, just a kind of dawning, 'Oh, Darkness, what have I done?' kind of feeling. Would her friends be able to understand the way Kaeleer worked? Would the people in Kaeleer understand her friends? She'd already had Uncle Saetan empty the Hall as much as possible--the last thing she needed was Chaosti and Aaron riding the killing edge because they'd, well, met Arthur. Saetan was old enough to keep a reign on his temper (Darkness willing) and Lucivar.

Hell's fire, this was a bad idea.

But too late for that now. Everyone was pretty much assembled. "Uh, hi," Karla said, giving everyone a kind of feeble wave. "The portal should be here in just a few minutes. But, since we're all here, I figured now might be a good time to give some information about my home and answer any questions. I hope you all got my handwavy message about packing enough for about a week, a bathing suit, and a few more formal items because Uncle Saetan asks that everyone dress for dinner. If not, don't worry, tomorrow we'll be heading out to Amdarh, the capitol city of Dhemlan and there have been some accounts opened at stores for everyone."

She flashed her best unsure-but-game grin and said, "Any questions?"

It was a new day and there was no better way to start a new day than with the continuation of the carnival. There was still snow coating the ground but the atmosphere was as lively as ever. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.

Not having noticed anything out of the ordinary about today, Hinata had deemed it safe enough to venture out of the dorms and down to the village for a tea and a pastry.

J,GOB had better pastries, it had to be admitted, but she preferred sitting in the Perk so that she could read in one of their comfortable chairs and, if she got bored with that, was able to quietly enjoy just watching people go by on the street.

Hinata found it peaceful and, from her understanding of the season, that too was something to be celebrated in.

"You're back," Ghanima said. "Fantastic."

"My back is fantastic," Tyler deadpanned. "Thanks for noticing."

"I'll take away your sugar," she threatened. "People are here to hit things, not flatter your ego."

"Never would have known," Tyler grumbled. "All right. Hitting things. Those two, those two, bandage boy and anger management, and ... you pick the last few."

"Professor Sun, if you'll indulge me," Ghanima replied with a nod before rattling off the last few names. "Let's go."

…morbid curiosity.

That was what it was, Hinata decided, waiting outside Chilly Boulder for Hayley to show up and contemplating the fact that… well. Hayley was going to teach her about knocking boy's socks off or some such thing. Clearly, Hinata thought, this was doomed to failure.

And yet she'd shown up anyway.

It had to be morbid curiosity. And vaguely wondering, again, how she'd been talked into this. It seemed like a good idea at the time?

Hinata clasped her hands in front of her and waited patiently. She was good at that, at least. If likely to be incredibly poor at anything else discussed this evening.

Apu and Kyle weren't on speaking terms. SquishyBot had picked up on the tension and was considerably stressed about it, meaning it wasn't giving out the correct squishy orders.

After getting back from Sweden, Tyler had slept until just before Fight Club. The results had him feeling a bit like a vampire who never saw daylight. But a very well-rested vampire.

"Welcome back," he said, pacing as usual. "It's been a while, but we haven't forgotten you and I hope you haven't forgotten us. If you need a refresher, rules are on the gym door."

"And if you need a refresher after one week, you are most likely still hungover, and have no place on the mats," Ghanima replied. "Which is why we'll hit you anyway, so that you learn."

"Now then. You and you. Young lady, you're with her. And Azula, with me, please."

"Ghanima, I'm picking on your brother again," Tyler said. "Leto, with her. Steve, with him. And those two. Go hit each other."

"I can't say I disapprove," Ghanima laughed. "I think it's a sister's duty to help torment her brother."

"Now, everyone go hit the mats. Get out your dismay that classes are back again tomorrow, and yes, we expect you to be there. We don't care that it's Homecoming week."

It's been years since Azula last pampered herself. After Iroh's unexpected and unwelcome appearance last week Azula thought it was only right she pamper herself again.

Today the whole day was going to be devoted to pampering herself.

It was a glorious fall day, so Didi walked into town to get a latte at the Perk then took it and a few stale croissants cadged out of the girl behind the counter to the park.

She took a seat on one of the benches by the pond and started tossing out crumbs by the scant palmful, trying to stretch the time she could spend doing this. The ducks squabbled over the crumbs, but they were ducks. Squabbling was part of their job.

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.
Welcome to Parents' Weekend 2009!
