Like so many weekends before it, the calm of a September Saturday morning was interrupted by the unscheduled opening of a portal in the park. This one sprang to life in a blaze of blue and gold and a burst of glitter before settling into something more stable.

The first to flood out were a score of squirrels, followed by some alots, a few teal deer, and some gremlins who had left Fandom to seek their fortune through biting. Then humans, humanoids, and those we never asked about too closely came through the portal.

Welcome back to Fandom, alums! Even if you hadn't planned on being here this weekend!

Savannah was once more rearranging the store.

This time is was arranged by color coordination... and not by seasonal goods as would probably make more sense, right? However, since it was Savannah and a case of the nerves, the store was now very decidedly arranged by color. (She'd apologize to her replacements when she saw them later and she knew Sean wouldn't be too upset with her.)

So now? Now she was tugging bookcases around to make sure that the different sports books and smaller supplies were in the right section for their color.

Of course, there was also the matter of those confusing pastels where she wasn't exactly sure which section they should go in or if she should make a whole separate display of pastels.

Nast's is open. Savannah is ready to help you.

Kinda.

During the night, Fandom had been covered in a blanket of fresh snow that was just thick enough to turn everything crisp and white. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.

After making a brief stop to check on her dear friend, Harper arrived at her designer dress shop. She had several of her special occasion dresses that she wanted to finish before Hurley's wedding this evening. One of the dresses was for her, and the rest were for some of her upscale clients.

There was evidence of her handiwork in the store window, where mannequins were dressed in very elegant, tasteful evening gowns.

Town Hall was all decked out in harvest theme with this being so close to Halloween and all. Pumpkins and squash and random corn! The corn, people! Think of the corn! But please, for the love of all that is holy, don't allow your children near it. Especially not the creepy gingers.

There was plenty of food and punch--not yet spiked--set to the side of the spacious room. Which left plenty of space for the general mulling about that kids were so fond of these days. Or dancing. And even the occasional dark bits in which to lurk. Have a fun homecoming, kiiiiids and remember to vote!

Yes, she was loaded down with bags.

Yes, her portal left in about a half hour.

But she had to stop in for coffee at The Perk just one last time before picking up that portal at the causeway. It was... look, she just had to, okay?

Mac settled herself down in one of the comfy chairs by the window with her mug, making the most of the last little bit of time she had here. No doubt she'd be back to visit at some point (assuming she could). An entire high school career here, and leaving felt very much like the end of an era. She could be sentimental if she wanted to be.

It was the day before graduation. The day before pomp and circumstance, diplomas, smiling seniors and proud guests. What better way to spend that day then partying the night away? That's right, tonight was the night of the senior lock in! Many NPC workers had been busy in town, cleaning up and setting up an abandoned warehouse for the event.

Now, the front of the warehouse was lit up with neon signs and stanchions that would lead the seniors into a huge building where not one speck of floor space wasn't being used for something fun. There was loud music pumping through the building and strobe lights were swirling around the area, lighting up the room in blues, reds, greens, yellows and various other colors. Decorations of all kinds painted the walls, giving the room a party like atmosphere.

Of course, it would just be a regular ole party, right? Nothing surprising would happen, right? Oh, of course. No surprises. Riiiiiight.

The senior lock in was open and it was time for the seniors to get their party on!

Waking up this morning to kids, wasn't as surprising as one might think. Finding out he had a kid with Chris, was shocking. Still, after a handwavey phone call to Chris and Summer, asking them to meet up at the beach, he was pretty calm as he watched his kids play. It wasn't a perfect day, weather wise, but it would do. Mina Harker wasn't particularly fond of children. However, given the alternatives, it seemed a great idea to put them through a bit of culture. Her equal partner in all of this was, of course, the most proper lady she knew of in town: Miss Elizabeth Bennet.

Together, they organized the tables (with extra tiny chairs not just for the children, but if any of the young ones had brought along Mr. Bear to enjoy the event), the tea (of all sorts), and the assorted other bits (scones, crumpets, jam, little cucumber sandwiches and the like).

They also had some rather cheap (they were messy child types, so it made sense not to make them too extravagant) gloves for the little girls, so that they could enjoy the tea properly.

If anyone acted up too much, well, there was Mina Harker on the premises.

Even with the sun out, it was still fairly chilly on the causeway, creating a brisk reminder of what everyone would be leaving behind for the next week as they traveled through the Caribbean.

As the students, teachers, and guests gathered to wait for the portal to Florida, everyone was given a copy of their lodging information and a trip itinerary to peruse:

Arrivals to town hall would notice that the Student Council took a darker approach to the decorations this year. The colors of the streamers, balloons and table cloths were in shades of dark red and black. Instead of cut outs of hearts and pictures of cupid, there were broken mirrors hanging on the walls, open umbrellas scattered about the room, fake cobwebs on the wall and glittery cut outs of the number "13" hung everywhere.

You even had to walk under a huge ladder in order to get into the dance.

Sure, they were tempting fate by having a Friday the 13th themed dance but this was Fandom. What's the worst that could happen?

After being thoroughly confused by the strange boy back in the weird motel room or whatever it was, Lou decided there was only one way to deal with this. She was going to make an awesome sandwich. As the sun went down, the twinkling fairy-lights that had been strung around the park took its place as a light source. Not nearly as big, but it was enough to see the food and the dance area by, with the help of some strategically placed torches in the shape of old-fashioned gaslamps. Nor nearly as warm, but there were carefully-controlled braziers here and there to take the nip out of the evening air.

Around the dance area and along the buffet tables there was a proliferation of orange, brown and rust-coloured harvest flowers that might have bordered on excessive, as if someone got rather excited about being offered a job this important, but it was still within the bounds of good taste.

Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of judging watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

Poor Sean.

Savannah had shown up for work early and was once again in a reorganizing frenzy.

Of course, as she was undoing all of the work Sean had managed to do, she was also talking on the headset that she had hooked up to the phone.

"Yes, we got the shipment and you've managed to get back into my okay graces. No, not my good graces. I'm still angry at you for causing my brother grief. No, I don't care how much you were being paid, and it would be in your best interest to make sure that it never happens again, Nico. As you have seen, I have quite a temper where my brother is concerned." She smiled as she moved a display across the store. "Now, how are you coming on that leather gear I asked you to find for me?" She paused as she listened to the man on the other end of the phone. "No, I already bought the bike, I'm just waiting to see how well I can move in the rest of the gear."

It was the Grads' Brunch in the park today, as the brightly coloured banner -- CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2008! -- indicated.

There were lots of tables and chairs set up in the park, under sails for shade, and long tables groaning under the weight of the food and drink. Not just traditional moddable brunch foods, but a wide selection of also moddable greek dishes and delicacies.

Coffees, teas, punch, juices and softdrink were only some of the also also moddable are you sensing a theme here? wide range of drinks.

Music played quietly in the background, the speakers hanging from the trees, and bocce ball and croquet had been set up. There was even space for dancing, a hard floor having been laid over the grass between the trees.

It may be the Grads' Brunch, but everyone was welcome! Come and congratulate the class of 2008!

Not that this sort of thing, the child invasion, happened in Dog River, or in Toronto for that matter. Probably a good thing, although she couldn't help wishing Davis got subjected to a sudden horde of small children.

What? It would be funny.

It wasn't necessarily the way that Chris would have chosen to spend the first weekend he and Summer were officially together, but it was definitely good anyway.

After feeding the kids and spending some time hanging around the dorms, Chris and Summer decided that a picnic in the park would be a great idea for dinner. The kids could run around and burn off some energy and maybe they'd run into some other people.

Not far from where the Skeleton Tea had been held earlier in the day, there was a tent that had been erected, with thiny, gauzy material and bone-like poles. Not dirty. The lights were soft as the evening grew darker, casting a welcoming, yet vaguely spooky illumination on the proceedings.

The proceedings of PROM.

One side of the tent was open, backing against a grove of trees; there were a few lights among them, but for the most part they offered shadowy nooks for anyone who wished to be a bit apart from the main action. The rest of the tent was enclosed, save for the entrance, and the same skeletons who'd worked the Tea earlier were at the refreshments table, ready and willing to serve any students or chaperones who approached. At one end of the table was the ballot box for prom court voting.

The music was just getting started, and the dance floor was yet to fill up, but regardless, Fandom High Prom 2008 was underway!

Arrivals to the town hall for the dance would find it decorated with darker, richer colors, from the draping streamers to the balloons scattered around to the runner on the snacks table. At the entrance, there was even a table with a variety of masks available for those who might not have brought their own, or were too damn lazy to get one, provided ever so graciously by Turtle & Canary.

And there wasn't a single speck of pink in the decorations. Nope. Not one. Turtle had made sure of it, even against the nefarious plottings of someone whose name may have rhymed with Peg Panning.

There was, however, still a lot of glitter. You could change the world, but you couldn't tempt fate.

Anders, as soon as he'd taped up the zombies, gotten everything ready, and opened Caritas for the night, was nibbling on sponge cake behind the bar.

Anyone at the park wouldn't be looking at the trail of clothes however. They'd be staring at the horde of naked Jamies who are jumping up and down and trying to stay warm.

And in front of the group of dupes (and any classmates who might have joined him) was another Jamie Madrox deliving a rousing speech.

"No! This isn't just an excuse to run around naked in the cold! This isn't just a naked mutiny! This isn't just an excuse to-"

"Shut up dude! It's cold out!"

"It's for an easy A! RUN! RUN MY NAKED FRIENDS! RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!"

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

Pancakes grinned. "What should I get?"

"Whatever you want," Summer replied. She had her dad's credit card after all. "I'm gonna get a caramel macchiato."

"I'll have one of those, too," Pancakes decided. Summer nodded, ordered their drinks, and wandered back over with two caffeinated beverages.

"It's good," Pancakes said after taking a sip. "When do I get to talk to Shawn?"

"He'll be here soon, I think. I left him a message to meet us," Summer said, taking a sip.

"Yep, fine. All good," she said quickly. "Enjoy your caffeine."

[ooc: Summer and Pancakes are here for Shawn, but anyone else is welcome to chat with them. Or use this for your own Perk needs. :)]

Xander could be found behind the counter, feet up and reading the Onion Alexandria Times. Completely coincidentally, a small log-cabin made of wrapped Twinkies could be found on the counter.

There might be one missing if you happened to step in before Xander got his phone to produce a replacement. Hey, construction is hard work; he needed replenishments.

[OOC: Open for tenants old and new, Buster's scavenger hunt kids, and anybody else who wanders by.]

When Mary failed to show up for breakfast, Gunther borrowed a key from housekeeping and went to check on her. He knew she'd been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately and didn't have the heart to wake her when he found her sleeping soundly. Unfortunately, he forgot to lock the door to her suite when he left.

Gunther took charge of the front desk for the day. He pushed aside the guest register so he could put out a tray of his famous lobster and truffle dumplings for any hotel guests that might wander through the lobby. He doesn't really know who is staying at the hotel, though, so he doesn't stop anyone from heading towards the guest rooms.

[OOC: Open! Scavenger hunters, you can look through Mary's suite or any of the unoccupied rooms. Just don't wake her up!]

With the school still in ruins, the administration decided that the park would be the best place to hold the Welcome Picnic. Tables were set up with food, nametags, and plenty of glitter. There was also a sign up listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, in case anyone had missed it.

Welcome to all the new people!

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD is done! This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. Part two is happening simultaneously here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g* Both posts are open to everyone.]

School in ruins = picnic in the park.
Food, check. Nametags, check. Glitter, check. Sibling list, check.
New people, yay!

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. Mini-OCD is done, woo! This is part two of the picnic, for general mingling. Part one is happening simultaneously here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g* Both posts are open to everyone.]
