The Imperial Brim was closed but Irulan was there with some NPC workers she hired. They were repainting the store's walls blue... or at least they were supposed to.

"That is not blue," Irulan said, pointing, "that is purple."

"I swear, lady, it was blue when we started!" The painter said, panicked. "Look, it's even the shade you ordered!"

Irulan looked and it was the specific shade she ordered. "When did the walls start turning purple?"

"A few minutes after you came in. I swear it was blue!"

He was telling the truth, she could see his panic. Irulan suspected this was the island's doing. "I believe you."

"I don't even know how to exp-- wait, you do?"

Irulan shrugged. "Perhaps you and your men should take a break while this sorts itself out."

"What sorts itself out?"

Irulan opened the door, "Fandom has a wonderful diner, perhaps you should try it out."

The workers left the Imperial Brim in a daze leaving Irulan alone to stare at her walls and slowly, it began to change color this time to red. Irulan sighed and rolled her eyes at the island. "Honestly."

(The Imperial Brim is closed! But Irulan is there for any hat needs!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Ever since she vanished into a void Irulan felt uncomfortable whenever she was inside the Imperial Brim. A change was needed.

She took out a booklet of color swatches. Perhaps a brighter color would suit the Imperial Brim more? Or perhaps something with a cooler tone, something that would be like the cool blue of Planet Caladan?

[identity profile] auntie-vida.livejournal.com
Vida had been busy since early that morning, setting up the park to be perfect for the Strawberry Social. Fortunately, the park was bug free, but she had music playing to drown the sounds of Celine Dion from nearby residences. Said music tended toward the pop side, bouncy and happy, with a side of disco. Drake had nothing to do with that, really.

Several picnic tables were laid end to end, covered with red table cloths and adorned with flower arrangements. There were plenty of plates to load up with food, which was available in plenty, including just about every strawberry dish imaginable. Vida had gone overboard, yes. She'd also provided red flowers to tuck in the hair and red scarves for those who might be feeling red-deficient.

Ignore any threat of rain, the weather was gorgeous. Because Vida demanded it.

Irulan took a hat off a shelf then moved it to another shelf but after a second took it off again. The hat wouldn't fit.

No, be honest. It was not the hat that wouldn't fit. It was her. She felt discomfited and knew the root of it.

She vanished into nothing in this shop and this fact left her unbalanced. Perhaps it was not a good idea to return here today. She would not be good company unless her equilibrium returned.

Irulan walked to the door and flipped the sign.

The Imperial Brim was close for the day.

(The shop is closed but the post is open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan was very worried, everything she's heard from the radio only served to worry Irulan more finally she decided to venture out and find out for herself. A risky move but she was worried for Ghanima, although she knew her stepdaughter would be more than capable handling anything thrown her way. Irulan called Ghanima and left a message stating her intention to find Ghanima.

She was on her way to the school when several creatures looking like crab men blocked her path, Irulan decided discretion was the better part of valor and slipped away before they noticed her. This happened several times with different creatures, each more grotesque than the last.

It was then with some relief that Irulan found herself standing in front of her shop. It would be safer if she stayed indoors for a moment before she regrouped and rallied once more.

It was a good idea. Except it was the exact same time a large tear opened up and before Irulan could react the black void consumed the hat shop and the Imperial Princess.

(Establish-y!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan's recent orders arrived just in time. She ordered these new hats from an internet shop called eBay the hats were, Irulan thought, a steal.

Except when she had her servant opened the crates, the contents of the crates were bags instead of hats.

"These," she began, words crisp, "were not what I ordered."

The person at the end of the line began lying and Irulan liked that even less. "I don't mind adding bags to my inventory but I specifically ordered hats. Hats, not bags."

He attempted to make another excuse.

That's when Irulan Atreides became very annoyed.

(Open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan opened the Infernal Machine and checked her electronic mail and somehow, after that entered a site called Facebook. Irulan had no idea why it was called Facebook when it was neither a face nor a book.

But there were a lot of pictures and games.

She clicked on one link, there was no harm in trying one game, right? How engaging could a game called Farmville be?
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan loved headdresses, she's worn all manner of headpieces from the heavy, the strange and the impractical but she's never worn a lobster on her head before. Not the way this Earth celebrity wore it.

"I don't think I can wear that."

And, yet Irulan can't seem to look away from the strange headdress.

(Imperial Brim is Open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan found a very nice article on hats and wanted to share it. Irulan negotiated with the Infernal Machine (it disturbed Irulan that she was getting used to this machine) only to discover she required another machine to print the article.

Irulan had an internal deliberation until she finally decided to send out her servant to purchase the much needed but still suspicious machine. There was more confusion about how it worked and just before frustration got the better of Irulan's Bene Gesserit training, the machines finally did their jobs and printed the article.

Now there was a framed article on How to Wear Summer Hats on the table display near the entrance.

It was always good to share information. But sometimes the path to sharing information brought more peril and confusion than she bargained for.

(The Imperial Brim is Open)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan strolled around her shop in her hat. Specifically a hat she frequently wore when she used to be a student in Fandom High. It was nostalgic.

And heavy.

But she didn't let it show keeping her bearing straight and her facial muscles relaxed. Also, it might entice a few people to buying more hats.

The Imperial Brim is open!
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan was steeping a pot of tea, she also had a book on the counter. There were no new shipment today nor will there be any need to do any inventory.

She brought out the tea and placed it on the counter just in case anyone would venture in and would want to share a cup.

(Open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan smiled at the Panama hats Miss Uhura had placed on the rack and decided to add a few more summer hats on the display.

After a few seconds of fiddling Irulan nodded, satisfied and returned behind the counter to browse a few sites in the Infernal Machine.

(Open!)
[identity profile] nyotauhura101.livejournal.com
Uhura carefully straightened the hat display in the window. It was her first day at work, at her first real job. She put on her best outfit that morning- a straight skirt in a pale tan, with a smart red-and-orange print blouse. She felt like such a grown up.

She fussed with the display some more, trying to get it just perfect. When she knocked over part of it, she decided she had fussed enough.

The Imperial Brim is open!
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan inspected the new hats. They were a more subdued design than the previous shipment. But Irulan still found the new hats delightful.

The Imperial Brim is Hiring!

(Open! OCD-less!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan still felt despondent about Leto leaving Fandom for Arrakis but she did not let it show instead she kept herself pre-occupied with the Imperial Brim. There would be an a shipment of hats soon and she must prepare for it.

The Imperial Brim is Hiring!
Please inquire inside!
[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com
Jack was behidn the counter for the start of his shift. Not even the mariachi music could lift up his spirits.

He was wearing his mortarboard (but not the gown), anxious as to what would would be happening with his life now that he had graduated.

He was also eyeing the "Now Hiring" sign and wondering if he should put that up in the window.

[Imperial Brim open!]
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
With Leto's upcoming return to Arrakis Irulan's thoughts have been drawn more and more to the idea of returning to Arrakis herself, her Arrakis that is.

Irulan smiled, noting the irony that she would want to return to a desert planet than remain on an island that is paradise compared to Dune. In any case, she still had a shop to run. She placed a placard on the door and it read:

Graduation Sale!
50% Off for all Graduates!

(Open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan was enjoying browsing through various catalogs looking for new styles to include in her shop. The hats in this collection were very unique and interesting.

She noted down the hats, they would fit very nicely in the Imperial Brim.

(Open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan opened the Imperial Brim later than she'd like but that was because she had new merchandise on display. Hats for children.

She also had chocolates and candies for any child that should wander by.

(Late shop is late but open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
The hats were all arranged right side up, there were no crisis on island and there was no inventory to be done.

It was, Irulan decided, going to be one of those idyll days in the shop, perhaps this was a good day to begin preparing for her next book. She took out a pen and paper and with tea on hand started the long process of plotting out her next book.

(Imperial Brim is Open! OCD-less!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
The last few days have been... interesting. Irulan was only too grateful her store was unaffected by recent events.

Except, somehow almost all of the hats displayed were now upside down.

Irulan sighed. Perhaps this was the trade off? Irulan moved forward and began the tedious work of setting the hats right side up again.

(Imperial Brim is open! And still OCD-less)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan hummed as she moved around the hat displays, she paused and stopped before one display. She picked up one straw hat then placed it on her head.

She smiled, the hat was perfect. She placed it back on the display and continued on with her rounds.

(The Imperial Brim is open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan entered the Imperial Brim then waved in the men carrying the hats she purchased in bulk, "Please stack the boxes behind the counter."

"Yes, ma'am," the man next to her answered and directed his men to do the same.

Irulan smiled, her trip to New York had been a success and the hats she had purchased almost made up for the hats she lost during the last invasion.

(OCD are stacking boxes. Imperial Brim is open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
The construction crew did very well, now all Irulan needs were new hats to sell. She opened her infernal machine and checked her email, Irulan smiled. There was a new bulk order from Roswell. It was a good thing the gremlins didn't damage the tin foil hats.

(Open)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
The Imperial Brim was closed and undergoing reconstruction and Irulan stopped by to check wearing a canary yellow construction hat. Irulan was impressed at the work, come Wednesday, her shop should be open again.

(OCD-less!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
The Imperial Brim was in ruins and most of her hats were either soiled or in pieces except, strangely enough, her Tin Foil Hat collection was practically untouched.

"I truly despise those creatures."

(OCD-less! OCD was smashed by the gremlins!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan was on her way to the Imperial Brim when she was accosted by one of the many green creatures wandering around. She had avoided them earlier but it would seem her luck had ran out, she brought out her knife and while she was not as formidable as her stepchildren she was still quite skilled.

She slashed the creatures and each one fell at her strike but what these creatures lacked in skill they made up for in numbers.

"This is getting tiresome," she said as another one fell and two more creatures began to move towards her. "I would think you'd start seeing reason now. I'd hate to kill you all."

Then they both lunged towards Irulan with a savage growl and Irulan was suddenly not where she was and without hesitating landed killing blows on the monsters. "It doesn't mean I won't."

(Expecting one but open!)

Deadpool was pretty sure he was gonna need to be wasted by the end of the night, but for now he was having enough fun with the cheap and not too great tasting beer. Look, it was the first day of trying to start a bowling league. Of course he was gonna get hammered.

There were plenty of those disease filled rental shoes for people and even some fancy sparkly balls.

Heh. Balls.

Oh yeah, it was gonna be a interesting night no matter what.
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan studied the style magazines, hoping some sort of inspiration would hit. Art and design were not Irulan's strong points but she did want to improve the Imperial Brim.

"Perhaps bringing in more artwork would help." She made a note to buy more artwork for the shop, perhaps something hat related? She added to the note: 'Something hat related.' "I think that would do nicely."

(Imperial Brim is open! OCD-less)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan opened the Imperial Brim early. It was a new season and a new year and new hat designs. She settled on the couch and looked around her shop. Perhaps some redecorating was in order.

(The Imperial Brim is open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
During the weekend Irulan decided that the Imperial Brim should also take advantage of the internet, much as she was loathe to be reliant on machines, a website couldn't hurt her little shop.

"Yes, a website," Irulan confirmed, holding the phone awkwardly. "I'd like us to meet in person, if possible. Tomorrow?" She checked her schedule, "Yes, I'm free."

The conversation continued for a few more minutes before Irulan ended the conversation.

The Imperial Brim is open!

(Open and OCD-less)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
There were things needed to be written down and her personal journal had long been ignored. Irulan flipped the open sign store of the store, settled on the couch and with a recently brewed tea, Irulan proceeded to write on the journal as she waited for guests to appear.

(OCD is still on holiday!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
The inventory finished Irulan decided to rest easy, brew a pot of tea and crack open a good book.
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan was in good spirits, she had new hats and the designs were fabulous!

It meant more paperwork but if it meant more of these hats Irulan would gladly brave the paperwork!
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
"I think the Brim needs to conform to the Earth holidays," Irulan said to no one in particular. She knew a major Earth holiday was coming up and it would not do for the Imperial Brim to be left behind the times.

She fired up the Infernal Machine and proceeded to look for Christmas design ideas she could incorporate in the shop.

(The Imperial Brim is open! Apologies for very late post!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan opened the shop, she was humming under her breath and smiling. She made a note to give Jack Burton a raise, the boy deserved it.

She flipped the sign by the door and settled on the couch.

"Right," Tyler said, once most of the fighters seemed to be there. "I don't know where Ghanima went. Maybe she has some chick thing I don't want to know about."

Yes, Tyler, that was exactly what you wanted to say about a woman who could kick your ass. Especially when she had relatives who came to Fight Club and could also kick your ass.

"Anyhow, you're stuck with me. Rejoice. Um, matches today are -- blondie, fight dark hair. Other blondie, you're with him. Third blondie, with her." He paused to draw his breath and look the crowd over. "Anakin with Steve, the Mayor with him, and Rose with the green girl. Everyone else, you're on your own."

A beat. "We need to figure out if we'll do this thing Thanksgiving weekend or not. I'll be here. If you have any brilliant thoughts, stop by and let me know."
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
The Imperial Brim was closed today since there were new shipments and it was Jack's day off Irulan thought it would be a perfect opportunity to rearrange the shop and perhaps do some cleaning.

"Do you think we should put the women's hats here?" Irulan asked her servant.

Her servant replied and pointed to another spot.

"You're right, that's better. Please move the hats there."

The servant complied.

"It's good to change things once in a while," Irulan remarked.

(The shop is closed but post is open!)
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan found a new hat designer, she spoke to the designer a week ago and she sent in her first shipment. Irulan felt the hats were more in line to the youth's tastes.

"Yes, I received the shipment," Irulan confirmed. "I am confident your designs will be a hit."

After a few more shop talk they ended the conversation with a promise of more business. Irulan smiled. It was a good day for commerce.
[identity profile] irulan-atreides.livejournal.com
Irulan opened the Imperial Brim and prepared for another day of commerce. She brought a book with her and the new tea set she acquired.

She settled on the couch and started to read while she waited for guests.

Okay, this was starting to seem like yet another one of those bad decisions Kate made so often. Seriously, how did she talk herself into letting this happen?

Still, she was here now, and it was too late to call the whole thing off.

The Gregsons were going to have dinner with the Atreides, and Kate felt like there might be an apocalypse coming. All she could do was hope that Leto had prepped his family well enough for her family not getting suspicious. Or, more to the point, her mother.

It was a good thing that no one have come to visit him, even without the timeline dangers. Leto didn't want to think about introducing aunt Alia to this place and having her talk to his teachers. Even Stilgar or Harah would have been a little difficult, and he could imagine endless tirades from Harah about wasting water.

He had ordered a coffee and sat down by a window table.

Irulan and a lion cub entered the Imperial Brim. Yesterday, after her bizarre encounter with Anakin in the park Irulan went to Ghani's room to return a few clothes she borrowed and found a cub where Ghani had been.

It was not hard to determine the cub was Ghani.

"Isn't this wonderful, Ghani?" She said, pointing to the hats. "They arrived yesterday. What do you think?"

Ghanima mewled at her indulgently.

"I think I even have a hat for cubs!"

It would seem that whatever had passed over the island had once again been forced to pause at Cal, tilt its head, scratch at it a little, and then move on, barred by some technicality that was working in Cal's favor without him even knowing it. This was actually incredibly fortuitous, because if it hadn't been for his chromosomes (just as, in the past, it hadn't been for his plumbing), he might have been stuck with having to explain why he was as traumatized, if not more so, than some of the girls on the island.

And it was a good thing, too, because he'd had enough of that sort of trauma in his life, thanks, and, besides, how the hell was he going to get these invitations for Ino's birthday party tomorrow finished if he was stuck in trauma?

He did feel that there was a more manly swagger to his walk than he usually tried to put in it, though.

Sure, he could have probably just sent an email, but he still wasn't that keen on computer.
