Warren had, before the day even really had a chance to start, decided that he needed coffee. Maybe it was because he'd spent his night with unexpected roommates (which he really didn't mind, though it was something he hadn't completely been expecting, either). Maybe it was more that he'd been kind of iffy about coming back here in the first place, and he'd already lit several zombie gremlins on fire on his way through town. And considering the fact that the island's last all-out zombie invasion was the reason he'd decided to move away from here in the first place...

Look, some things just required coffee, damn it. And if the barista didn't stop looking at him hungrily and snapping her teeth at him instead of just making his damn drink order, there were even odds he was going to snap and burn this place to the ground while he was at it.

He did eventually just give up on the prospect of coffee and hold her at bay with a chair while he grabbed a teabag, a mug, and some hot water. That looked like it was going to be the only service he was going to get around here, at least for a while. He'd go back for the counter for coffee once her gremlin bite wore off, but for the time being he was sitting in a window seat, drinking his tea and watching the chaos unfolding outside.

"... Fandom. Ugh."

Like so many weekends before it, the calm of a September Saturday morning was interrupted by the unscheduled opening of a portal in the park. This one sprang to life in a blaze of blue and gold and a burst of glitter before settling into something more stable.

The first to flood out were a score of squirrels, followed by some alots, a few teal deer, and some gremlins who had left Fandom to seek their fortune through biting. Then humans, humanoids, and those we never asked about too closely came through the portal.

Welcome back to Fandom, alums! Even if you hadn't planned on being here this weekend!

After almost two weeks of weirdness, Jamie was relieved to see that everything seemed to be going back to normal.

Only thing was that there was something pulling on him. And while Jamie was not an expert on time travel, even he could figure out that his time was short in this timeline.

So Jamie was enjoying a cup of coffee while quietly praying to whatever higher existed that the work that campfire had done might have made some difference.

In the meantime: One last cup of coffee.

[Final Post for Jamie. Or anyone else about to disappear if they want. SP for me until tonight.]

Zoe had told Jamie that he could put together a message to the school board in order to prevent the future Faandom from becoming a dystopia.

Zoe was probably going to regret that decision.

For now it meant that Jamie and his duplicates had set up a makeshift stage and procured a video camera for the occasion.

As he waited for his fellow campfire members to show up, Jamie settled down to drink his soy latte. He wasn't sure why he was drinking a soy latte but for some reason it seemed appropriate.

Momoko had made the decision late last night that she was going to spend today exploring the sewers for clues to this weirdness.

This is why she was standing in front of an entrance to the sewers.

She hadn't gone into the sewers because... well... sewers. Ew.

She knew she had to, but give her a moment. She was totally sure that it wasn't going to be like the sewers involved in that case back in Saitama. In fact, she was convinced it was going to look much different...

Ew.

She'd sent some text messages, hoping for some company, but wasn't sure if anyone was coming. he was going to stand here and wait a bit more, and enjoy being clean and un-grossed-out for a few more minutes, okay?

A group of Jamies were huddled by the causeway.

"Did we get everything?"

Preparing for a ritual that might be the key to saving the future of Fandom island.

"Mandrake root. Fur from a teal deer. Nightshade. Dried stickbugs. Is that everything?"

Then again this is Jamie Madrox we're talking about.

"Almost everything. We couldn't get a live chicken."

"What did we get as a replacement?"

"The ten piece chicken meal from Il Pollo."

The Lannisters don't have anything to worry about.

This couldn't be right.

Warren had done a few laps of the island after winding up unceremoniously deposited halfway down a set of stairs that he'd ever so gracefully tumbled down. He hadn't been hurt, of course, but his dignity had suffered a fair bit in the fall. It wasn't until he picked himself up again and looked around that he realized he probably hadn't just stumbled. He'd been about to blame the weird way the world around him seemed to twitch on the fall itself.

Now, stepping into a coffee shop that actually sold a decent coffee, he was pretty positive that that wasn't the case. His trek around the island had let him get a feel for how many things were unfamiliar, and how many things were familiar in a way he'd thought he'd never see again.

It was almost satisfying, seeing the way the barista inched away from him as he stepped up to the counter to order. Not that he meant to be intimidating.

... Okay, yes, he did. Either way, she probably didn't expect that he was just ordering a green tea, going by the look she gave him. He settled down at one of the tables, tea in hand, and looked out the window with a frown. This was definitely not the Fandom he'd woken up in this morning.

He hoped this was going to last.

When Miyako crept down the inside stairs to Cafe Fina, she was tired, a little hungry, and incredibly frustrated. She'd finally determined that she was -- somehow -- on Earth, and not in the Digital World, but she still had no idea how she'd gotten where she was, she didn't have Hawkmon with her, and she was more than a little frustrated that her friends hadn't replied to her messages.

So she'd spent the night tossing and turning with worry, she'd been hesitant to use the (well-stocked) kitchen, and thus she'd ended up creeping down to Cafe Fina in hopes that someone would tell her what's going on.

Of course, the Cheese Grater took one look at her, frowned, and forced an apron into her hands. "You'll do," he said, and then shoved her towards the specials sign.

Specials

Harumaki
Pork Spring Rolls

Temarizushi
'Thread Ball' Sushi'

Butaniku-no-Misozuke-Yaki
Miso-Marinated Fried Pork

Green Tea Pound Cake

Mochi Daifuku Ice Cream
With Vanilla, Strawberry, or Red Bean Ice Cream

After filling out the menu board, Miyako went to familiarise herself with the cash register, happy to see that it wasn't much different from the one in her family's store.

It was Warren's final shift at Cafe Fina. The last one. Ever. No more. Nix. Nada. Zip. Jack squat. And if he was feeling kind of nostalgic about it, he was going to be the last one to let it show.

Mostly because the Cheese Grater was doing more than enough of that for him.

"And over there is where you slipped on the grease spot and couldn't get up! And there's the booth where we sang you Happy Birthday! And you were making fortune cookies over here..."

"Shut up. And stop clinging to me."

At the insistence of the kitchen staff, Cafe Fina was open.

Fai wasn't really paying much attention, since Kurogane had developed some kind of cold and was even crankier than usual. So it was up to the cheese grater to take charge and marshall the troops.

"Come on, blow," Fai demanded, holding a kleenex in front of Kurogane's nose. "Nobody likes a Mr. Sniffles!"

The staff was, wisely, steering clear of them.

Warren had his head down on one of the tables today at Fina. It wasn't that he was tired. It wasn't that he was sick. It was that his roomie was graduating, there was going to be another huge influx of newbies in a week or so, and he hated everything. And everyone. That was a given, right?

And so, if he spent his day like this, he was hoping he'd be even less approachable than usual.

Today's Specials:

It wasn't that Warren didn't like children. Honest. It was more that Warren was absolutely thrilled that he hadn't wound up with any of his own.

With that in mind, he instructed the placemats (and their wee little napkin offspring) to keep an eye on business today, and if anyone needed him, he was going to be over here, far away from the adorable devilspawn. It was Easter. He was allowed to hide.

Today's Specials:

It had been a pretty ordinary day for Fai. Get up, open the cafe as usual...check on the zombified employee to make sure he was still tied up in the corner.

Kurogane had disappeared, likely off finding more zombies to destroy, but Fai didn't mind. He passed the time by throwing meat scraps to Warren, clapping gleefully whenever a piece actually landed in Warren's mouth.

It might be a bizarre pastime, but it was actually very fun.

It wasn't that Warren was in a bad mood today, really. He wasn't. He was just still stuck in that same weird thoughtful funk that he'd had since Tuesday. They decided that worry for their own well-being was going to win out today after a particularly sympathetic placemat attempted to give Warren a feel-better hug... Only to end up putting its 'stop, drop and roll' technique to use for the fire on the seat of its pants.

Today at Cafe Fina, the dishes figured that they were going to surprise Warren by preparing food that he liked. Not for any particular reason, really. They were just hoping that they could get him in a good mood. Because good moods meant that they might be lucky enough to get through the day without fireballs flying toward their rear ends.

The problem with attempting to fry everything, of course, was that dishes weren't the most coordinated individuals, and the result was grease all over the floor.

Sadly, Warren found the grease spots before the Mop did.

It was Sunday, and Sunday meant, late because of a cruise or not, Warren was going to make his way to work. Explaining his reason for not showing up until the afternoon led only to a gaggle of dishes asking questions about the cruise and finding the answers not to their liking.

"You didn't go on any tours, you didn't go surfing, you didn't even take a romantic walk on the beach," the Pepper Shaker replied, staring at him incredulously.

"I did get into the pool with Momoko," Warren offered. The dishes looked thrilled! "For about thirty seconds."

Warren was still kind of riding the post-'that holiday he doesn't actually like' candy high as he went to open Fina today, noting pleasantly that the dishes were once again themselves this week, and that the smile on his face was starting to make them worry for their own safety.

It really was the way of things, wasn't it?

Whenever Warren was busy trying to tuck himself away so he wouldn't have to deal with the hustle and bustle of a throng of strangers swarming the island, the dishes would go and do something like this?

He'd argued. It was all he could do, really. It was a matter of all of the plates, forks, knives, spoons, napkins, and other assorted utensils outnumbered him, umpteen to one.

And so, the Specials Board today read:

Be Our Guest!
Come On In! Request Anything You Like! Bring a Friend!
Newcomers To The Island Pay Half!

Warren was going to just sit away in a corner and contemplate his revenge, hating them all.

But dammit, they were still singing Christmas carols.

Warren was not a fan of the holidays.

Today at Cafe Fina, the dishes were putting Warren's appreciation of Christmas to the ultimate test, by breaking out into obnoxiously cheery caroling and pulling out the holiday decorations. They insisted that it was because their master back in France however many years ago absolutely hated Christmas. So really, it would be a shame to let the holiday season on Fandom pass without putting extra effort into it.

When the garland came to life and attempted to crawl up Warren's leg, Warren pointed out very clearly that he could see exactly why their master wasn't a fan of the holidays.

Warren kind of felt like he was stupidly overdressed to be sitting inside a Chinese restaurant. He'd figured the suit jacket was appropriate, especially given the chill outside, but the tie might have been too much. Was it too much? He hoped not. He'd asked the waiter who had shown up to take his order, instead of actually giving his order, and now everyone in the building thought he was insane.

But at least they'd figured out he was waiting for someone.

The suggestion, really, had only resulted in the cheese-grater running in circles, trying to douse the fire on the seat of his pants with the contents of a bottle of vinegar.

Ah, Sunday.

Lazy Sundays were as good a day as any to to go work. To go to work, and to amuse the rest of the staff by allowing them to make whatever they wanted with the cooking alcohol, and then beating them all to the punch with well-aimed fireballs of his own before they could reach for the matches.

He had the sneaking suspicion that the dishes were adding alcohol to everything today, just to see how well certain things would burn.

He was fine with that.

Today's Specials:
Fajitas Flambé
Red Pea Bisque with Rum Flambé
Banana Flambé over Ice Cream

Chances were, if you ordered anything today, it would be served with flaming alcohol on it.

Somehow, Warren had managed to work his winning charms on Kurogane yesterday in order to land himself a job at Cafe Fina, that swank restaurant in town that Warren had never been in, but it had always seemed like the inside was full of bustling and singing and energy.

And the menu was all fancy.

And there was that bouncing pork bun thing.

Warren wasn't going to entertain thoughts that perhaps he should have applied for a job at Ching Tai instead. A little variety on his resume would do him some good.

Today's Specials
Ravioli Alla Gorgonzola
Grasshopper Pie
(Ask About Our Sunday En Flambé Option)

For whatever reason, the serving staff seemed rather nostalgic about being bossed around by a guy whose hands lit on fire whenever he got frustrated with them.

The Cheese Grater was such a liar. When Kurogane had asked him if he played chess, he responded that he didn't play well.

Now he was getting his ass handed to him in a game that back home he'd ben thought of as the best. And best of all, anyone who walked into the Cafe could see it!

As Fai would say, Kuro-woof woof was not a happy puppy.

Today's Specials
Tiny Froofy Cakes
Chicken and Penne in Vodka Sauce

Kurogane also added at the bottom in very large letters. Now Hiring!

It had been a fairly uneventful weekend for Warren the newt. There had been a good deal of napping, hiding under rocks, and cursing whatever force of Fandom had turned him into the diminutive creature in the first place. At least he'd ruled out the possibility of a supervillain attack involving a transmogrification beam. That had made his time spent as a newt at least slightly less worrisome.

Until the bunyip had wandered ashore from the ocean and had decided to snuffle about under his rock in search of a tasty morsel.

Sadly, a moist little newt, fire bellied though it may be, was not able to spark itself aflame in order to scare off the creature as its tusked maw edged closer. And so Warren was forced to make the most undignified of retreats.

The running newt soon became a running boy, and the bunyip lost interest.

Warren was less amused, seeing as he was lacking clothing and hadn't had the ability to move his things to the much closer cabins yet.

This was going to be a long run with his hands covering his unmentionables, indeed.

Lacey had been glad to get away from the stickiness and humidity of Tortuga and into a much more comfortable climate, although she still wasn't sure what to do about the diner's new piratey decor. Maybe she could just keep it as a souvenir of sorts? It would be less of a pain than ordering new furniture, anyway, and it had more personality than some completely uniform and boring sets of tables and chairs. Actually, the longer she looked at it, the more it was sort of charming.

Besides, as far as she knew, nobody had complained about it -- definitely different from Dog River, and she almost didn't know how to deal with that.

Today's Special
Fish and Chips

[OOC: No OCD, and moddable service today; playing catchup at work and still 98.6% asleep. -_-]
