Cafe Fina - Saturday

The Cheese Grater was such a liar. When Kurogane had asked him if he played chess, he responded that he didn't play well.

Now he was getting his ass handed to him in a game that back home he'd ben thought of as the best. And best of all, anyone who walked into the Cafe could see it!

As Fai would say, Kuro-woof woof was not a happy puppy.

With the white rabbit thing, or one of the other objects that should be inanimate but are not.

Anything to get him away from this game.

Warren couldn't help but notice the sign that stated that the Café was hiring.

And he was in need of a job, so...

So, Warren stopped in, out of curiosity, and took a look around. Fancy place. Better lit than the Paper Lantern back home. Less Chinese. Hm.

"Is this a resumé-only establishment if you're looking for a job?"

Upon further consideration, it occurred to Warren that perhaps his leather jacket and torn jeans weren't appropriate for someone who was job-hunting. Ah well.

What he was wearing didn't matter much to Kurogane, the kid though was one of the more capable looking people he'd seen walk into the cafe.

Turning away from the game, he gave the kid a penetrating look. "I don't know what the hell a resumé is kid, but if you're looking for a job, you've come to the right place. What's your name?"

"Peace," Warren stated. "Warren Peace. What positions are you hiring for?"

Waiting tables, he could do. Dealing with less-than-sane co-workers, he could do. He still hadn't actually noticed that this guy's opponent in chess also doubled as a tool for shredding Parmesan.

Kurogane shrugged. "Waiting tables mostly, general employee control."

"Think you can do it? People here are good a testing patience."

Warren considered for a moment, glancing at the staff. A couple plates, a few forks. Sure, he could handle cutlery. Even if his area of expertise was usually centered around chopsticks.

"I'm good at making people do what I need them to do," Warren decided, crossing his arms over his chest. "You got a shift open on Sundays or something?"

Working the weekend seemed the easiest way to avoid class conflicts in future semesters, really.

That earned him smirk as Kurogane crossed his arms. "Sure kid, starting tomorrow?"

Warren nodded and gave a casual sort of shrug to his shoulders.

"Tomorrow," he replied. "I'll be here, then."

Heeey. A job.

"Good, and just a hint that will make your working here easier for you. I'm Kurogane. No matter what other people will tell you. Ignore anything the blonde annoying man says and don't like the white pork bun jump on you."

Mental notes. Warren was now taking mental notes.

"Ignore the blonde, avoid the raw pork bun. I hear a little fire browns those up nicely."

A small high pitched squeal came from across the room as suddenly the small white rabbit / pork bun thing appeared on Kurogane's head. "That's mean!!! Mokona does not wantto be brown!!"

Kurogane just sighed.

Warren smirked faintly and raised an eyebrow at Mokona.

"Noted. Don't cook the pork bun."

This was going to be an interesting job, indeed.

Kurogane might have shot Warren and small glare as he grabbed Mokona off his head and tossed it across the room.

Don't worry, it bounced when it hit the floor and giggled. "Mokona likes Warren! We'll be good friends and I'll show him my special secret techniques!!"

Kurogane shook his head. "Be afraid kid."

.... The thing bounced.

Warren stared at it for a moment, and then looked back at Kurogane.

"Getting there," he decided. "We'll see how I do tomorrow, I suppose."

Mokona continued to bounce heading towards the stairs to the apartment above the cafe. "Faaaaaaiii!! Kuro-pii hired someone!!!"

"Yeah, if you can ignore them long enough they go away," he shrugged and ignored the cheese grater impatiently motioning at the chess board. "Do you have a lot of patience?"

"You hired someone, Kuro-tan?" Fai asked, coming down the stairs with Mokona bouncing around his feet. Seeing Warren, he smiled.

"Hello! You must be the new employee in question?"

"I have a lot of patience when it comes to dealing with customers," Warren mused, nodding a hello to the blond man that he was apparently supposed to ignore. "I've worked in a restaurant before, back home. Once I get used to the menu here, I'm sure it won't be any different."

There was a pause.

"Except for the pork bun."

Cable had some further rounds to make, considering the job. He was also a little hungry. And... "Kurogane," he greeted, looming slightly in the doorway.

Kurogane looked up as his name was called.

..Properly.

"Nate," He nodded back. "You finally made it."

"I've been busy," he noted, glancing around the premises. "But hungry."

He turned away from the futile game and nodded.

"All right, what do you want?" Kurogane asked standing up to actually do his job and handed Nate a menu.

"A seat might be nice," Cable said, wryly. "So how is business, Kurogane?"

"So take one..."

He wasn't the best at waiting on people.

"It's fine, hired someone to do Sundays earlier today," he shrugged.

There was some hint of amusement in the way Nate picked his table and sat down, yes, but he wasn't going to mention it. "The chicken sounds good, thank you. And a beer." Because you couldn't have food without that. "Be sure to file that with the mayor's office."

Paperwork. Sigh.

The Cheese Grater indicated that it had the order and would bring it right out so that Kurogane could stay and talk.

"File? File what? That I hired some kid from the school? Seems damn pointless to me," he sneered and pulled over a chair, sitting in it backwards.

"You'd think that," Cable said, raising his eyebrows at Kurogane. "But we can't keep things organised without keeping track of the flow of students into town." A pause. "Information which can be useful, especially during an invasion." He hadn't done much else but plan for invasions this week. Not as... constructive... as he'd like to be, but experience had proven that had to be high on the agenda.

Well when it was put that way...

Kurogane took a deep breath and leaned angrily against the chair. "Yeah, well still a hassle. How the hell're we supposed to know it needs to be filed? Not like this place comes with a manual," he griped.

Cable leaned back in his own. "I'm letting you know," he said, mildly, then deadpanned, "I could write it down..."

"Not neccesary," Kurogane deadpanned back. "Something you found out with your shop?"

"Something I found out when I took the job," Cable replied. "You're living in my town now." That didn't sound nearly as omnious as it probably should've.

... People who knew him well would've found it omnious just because it was him saying it.

"Food's ready!" Fai called, bringing it out of the kitchen and over to where Cable and Kurogane were sitting. "Oh, Kuro-rin, who's this? A friend?" he asked eagerly, setting the food (and beer) down in front of Cable.

There might have been a slight twitch in Kurogane's forehead. Though if it was from the news of Nate's new job or the fact that once again Fai wouldn't use his name.

He ignored Fai for the moment and replied to the man at the table. "Should I say congratualtions? Or give you my condolences?"

"Neither," Cable replied, with a twitch of his lips and a nod at Fai as he took the beer gratefully. "I'm simply pitching in to help for the good of the island." That was his story, and he was sticking to it.

They were so alike. Fai couldn't help but grin, going over to Kurogane and poking his cheek. "Ne, Kuro-tan..."

.... You could see the gears turning in Kurogane's head as he debated on biting off the offending finger.

But he didn't know where it had been.

"What..."

Cable was just going to use this opportunity to have some of his food. It was reasonably good. He got a few bites in.

"Who is your friend?" Fai inquired again. Still poking.

"...." Kurogane grabbed Fai's hand to stop him from poking him. "This is Nate," he said flatly.

"Most call me 'Cable'," Cable offered, dropping his fork for the occasion. "I take it you'd be the other owner."

"Fai D. Flourite," Fai said, bowing his head politely. "Nice to meet you, Cable-san."

Kurogane sat back quietly with a deep sigh. "So when did you become mayor then?"

"Recently," he said, because it just wouldn't do to be specific about anything. "So I'm taking stock of the local businesses."

"Well, welcome to our humble little place." Fai smiled and hopped up. "I'm going to get back to work. Kuro-wanwan, you might want to make sure the cheese grater hasn't moved your pieces around. He looks too smug." The blond leaned over Kurogane and kissed his cheek soundly, then fled for the kitchen.

Kurogane seemed to be frozen a moment as though it took a moment for Kurogane to realize what just happened.

"Enjoy your meal Nate, it's on the house," he said quickly and stood, quickly walking after Fai. There could be shouting heard moments later from the kitchen.

He should be playing Shogi, but.... yeah.
