Lindsay thought about skipping work today since there was strangeness afoot on the island. She remembered what happened last year around this time when she went to work during weirdness. Right now, though, considering the potential financial issues at home, paychecks were important.

Today, she decided on Hendrix and had the volume turned up just a little louder than usual. If there were any odd sounds outside from creepy creatures, she didn't want to hear them.

Lindsay was used to cold winters being from Michigan. She was not used to cold summers, though. It was strange getting bundled up for the walk to work. She did, at least, appreciate that the store was heated.

She wasn't in any particular music mood, so she went with a mix of classic rock.

Groovy Tunes? Open.

[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Today, the sounds of U2 could be heard at Groovy Tunes. Lindsay had seen a few pictures online of the giant claw stage thing that was part of their current tour. That was pretty much the only inspiration for today's music choice.

Lindsay was back at work after a day off last week. She started thinking about how she was going to have to be extra responsible with her paychecks. She still had a feeling her family's financial situation was going t change soon. Those thoughts did not last long, though. She did her best not to think about things like that for now. To help push those thoughts away, she decided to listen to one of her favorites, Journey. She even listened to albums that had not yet been released in her time.

She could be in denial for a little while.

Groovy Tunes was open.

Lindsay was in a fairly good mood. Being in Atlantis helped. More accurately, the weather in Atlantis helped. Plus, there was the upcoming break from classes and a trip home to look forward to.

Despite the good mood, she chose a band full of drama and angst to listen to today: Fleetwood Mac. At least it was good music! She'd argue with anyone who disagreed.

[no ocd]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay was once again leafing through a music magazine, still attempting to find a current music trend she understood. As usual, though, she just could not get into current music. That's why the sounds of The Pretenders filtered throughout the store instead of something more modern.

[apologies for lateness! no ocd]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Today was a Pink Floyd day. The Wall specifically. Lindsay had no real reason other than she just liked the album. Also, it was the start of a new month. She decided that deserved something epic.

Groovy Tunes was open.

Lindsay was going through shelves of music to find something that fit the mood of their current location. Basically, she wanted to find something that was nice to listen to on a rainy day. She considered listening to The Doors, specifically "Riders on the Storm" on a loop. She knew that would get annoying, so she went with the whole album.

Groovy Tunes was open.

[no ocd today]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay was sitting behind the counter listening to old school Van Halen (though it wasn't that old to her), enjoying one of the cupcakes she made in class yesterday on her break. A normal one with chocolate icing. She decided for no reason that this was a good day to be stress free.

Groovy Tunes is open.
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay knew there were a lot of new students around. She also knew they were likely from many different dimensions and times. Because of that, she set out a few CDs of some of her favorite bands from different eras in case any new people wanted to check them out.

Groovy Tunes was open.

[ocd-free; and now in the right place]

When Lindsay opening the store today, it wasn't just as an employee. She had plans to go home for a few days and wanted to bring some new music with her. Vinyl, of course. She knew she couldn't get away with taking her mp3 player with her. New music in her case? Whatever new albums were being released at the moment in 1982. Seemed there was some research in her immediate future.

Groovy Tunes was open.
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay had another dilemma, one that could change the very fabric of music...or perhaps that was just a bit over dramatic. She was having a difficult time deciding on what to listen to in the store today. There were just so many choices.

In the end, she went with The Runaways. On CD. It kinda made her wish for vinyl, though. She was feeling nostalgic.

Groovy Tunes was open.

If anyone could recall the dance from the night before, they would have thought that it was decorated tastefully compared to what was going on tonight. There were streamers, balloons and what appeared to be paper flower ornaments everywhere. All done in yellow and blue for the proud graduates of Fandom High, of course.

And there were the 'classic' songs from twenty years ago blaring loudly for people to dance or cringe to. Who knew Ke$ha and Justin Bieber would get to be classic pop music for future generations?

Just be glad there is an open bar.

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

Lindsay was at the store today since it was Wednesday. Sort of. Physically she was there. Her mind was elsewhere, though. She was really concerned about her roommate right now, especially after what Rinoa had revealed to her. And now, she wasn't even on the island. Yeah, Lindsay was going to worry.

No amount of shelve restocking provided much distraction.

[LJ finally let me post! Also, ocd-free.]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay was a somewhat bored today. As a result, she found herself leafing through a music magazine. She read about some of the latest music trends and was disturbed by the girl with a dollar sign in her name. What the hell was that? She was not going to listen to that CD.

She did decide to try a Pink CD, though. Surprisingly, Lindsay kind of liked it.

[ocd-free!]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay was doing a bit of thinking today as the sounds of the Police filtered through the store. Her parents had already informed her that they wouldn't be able to make it this time for Parents Weekend. She wasn't upset or anything. She got to see her parents often enough.

They told her they couldn't be here because of some issues with her dad's sporting goods store. They told her not to worry, but she was going to at least be a little concerned. She knew the store had to compete with a mall now.

Maybe she would go home this weekend and help out. Or not. She hadn't quite made a decision. For now, she would wait behind the counter for potential customers.

[ocd free today!]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Anyone who visited the store today would be greeted by the sounds of classic rock, not exactly a big shock to anyone who knew Lindsay. Today's choice was Led Zeppelin. There was no reason for this. There didn't really need to be a reason.

Groovy Tunes was open.

Lindsay raised an eyebrow at the monkey that tried to hug her. After a moment, it actually succeeded. She was so weirded out by this, but at the same time, she thought it was kind of adorable.

"Just don't knock anything over, okay?" she told the love monkeys.

She was talking to the monkeys now. Only in this town.

Lindsay was seriously considering going home for a few days. Kim's birthday was this weekend, and she thought a surprise visit was a necessity. Of course, she probably should bring a present. She was already in the best place to find something, which is why she was looking through the vinyl collection. There had to be something in there Kim didn't already own.

G.O.B. Bluth Presents:
The Tenth Anniversary Edition of
Three Minute Dates at Caritas

hosted by A Matchmaker Named G.O.B.

Just before 6:00, the lights went dark and a sole zombie walked out onto the stage and sat down at a piano. The zombie then started playing The Final Countdown, followed by the other zombies, all with violins to join in. And then GOB walked out onto the stage, holding and petting a lovebird. He then released the bird, which flew up toward the ceiling before somehow getting stuck in an air duct.

As GOB went into his spiel about how 3MD was a Fandom institution that he started and how he had brought so much love to Fandom with it and that the tenth annual (he still hadn't figured that part out) edition demanded the respect that a piano and not doing magic ("Unless any of the legal ladies out there want to see me make another lovebird appear," and yes, he was talking about his penis).

Meanwhile, the lovebird was still stuck in the air duct. As air rushed past the bird and into the lounge, some strange pheromones released by the bird were thrown back at the stage, where it reacted with the already strange combination of zombie smell and cologne used to hide the zombie smell on such a classy occasion, somehow generating a powerful love potion that would be making its way into the lounge, affecting people at random for three minutes at a time. Bizarrely, that was exactly how long each of the dates tonight would be.

Sometimes Fandom worked in mysterious ways. Mysteriously sexy ways.

"I call your names, you meet up with each other, talk for three minutes, and then you'll hear the sound of a zombie smashing his hands against a bunch of piano keys. Go ahead and do it," GOB said. The zombie started smashing the keys randomly. One of the other zombies joined in because a band was all about teamwork. "And that's how we start!"

[The Bar Before the Dates | Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 | Round 4 | Round 5 | OOC]
[Regular post-dates Caritas post]

[OOC: Lots of OCD coming IS UP. RANDOMLY ASSIGNED LOVE POTION IS MARKED IN THREAD TITLES WITH ONE OF THESE "*" AFTER THE AFFECTED PERSON'S NAME! For example: "Nick* / 3MD Participants" means that I will spend the next three minutes loving everyone who signed up. But not in a dirty way because that would be exhausting and I have a sister among the participants and eww.

Remember that you can also choose to be affected by love potion in any round(s) at your discretion. Also, the love potion can only affect people in the lounge during the dates. People at the bar and on the stage will not be affected. People who are affected will just be incredibly drawn to their date, flirt harder, maybe go for some physical contact more quickly, but they shouldn't necessarily go straight for making out. Unless you choose to have them go for it. The upper limit is player's choice.

As I'm going along, if I made an obvious mistake, like skipping a character completely for a round or posting a pairing twice, feel free to grab me on AIM or in the OOC thread and I'll make a quick fix. And remember, attacks on your dates will get you teleported elsewhere on the island.

Also remember that most playing should happen on Saturday, but if you need to finish a thread or two on Sunday, that's fine.

GO FORTH AND PLAY!]

There was more Super Bowl inventory to add to the shelves this week. Lindsay couldn't wait for it to be over. Hockey was better than football, anyway.

[ocd free!]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay knew there had been a shipment of 90s boy band music. Because she was still so curious about modern music, she decided to listen to one of them. Immediately she regretted that. She was seriously wondering how anyone could call that music. Quickly, she switched to a Rush CD.

Groovy Tunes was open.

[no ocd; apologies for lateness!]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
There was new inventory today. Mostly Super Bowl stuff. Lindsay didn't really care about it. She barely even knew which teams were involved. Still, there were jerseys and football books set up in a new display. She would even try to sell them to any potential customers.

[no ocd]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay was still trying to find modern music she liked. That search really had not gone well. A lot of the music from this era just wasn't the same as the music she was used to.

Today, though, she discovered another modern band that she thought she could enjoy: Pearl Jam. As she listened to one of their albums in the store, she figured out they were pretty good.
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay had possible the worst headache ever. She actually considered calling out today, but then she remembered that she liked getting paid. That was enough motivation for her. She also had Advil.

The store was open for any sporting good needs.

[no ocd; will be afk all day, so please mod service if needed]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
If it had still been snowing, Lindsay still would have shown up today. She was from Michigan. She could handle a little blizzard. That didn't mean she liked them, so she was glad the weather was back to normal.

Today, classic rock filtered through the store. This time it was a greatest hits compilation of The Doors.

[no ocd today]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay set up a new display featuring football jerseys of all the teams that made it to the playoffs. All football jerseys were on sale until after the Super Bowl. She wondered how much profit the store could make if every one of them were sold. She actually did the math in her head because she could. Also because she was bored.

[ocd free]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay was pretty excited about her new job. There was a good reason for that. She was getting paid to listen to music and try to sell it to other people. Of course, she didn't tell her parents about this, yet. She wasn't in the mood to listen to a lecture from her dad about how rock and roll was going to rot her brain or something. She rolled her eyes just thinking about it.

For her first day, she chose a Bon Jovi greatest hits compilation. Ever since she was introduced to them the other day, she wanted to hear more. She wasn't really surprised that she liked what she heard.

Groovy Tunes was open!

Jonothon's first shift at the Groovy Tunes on his new schedule, and he was almost distressingly distracted for it. It was one thing to suspect that there was something frightening going on with Raven. It was another thing entirely to be proven right.

Last night's dreams had been learning experiences, unto themselves.

Clearly, this meant that the only thing to do was to...

Play music. What the bloody hell else was there to do, at least until he could contact Karla and Professor Skywalker to tell them what had gone on?

[Open, and OCD-freeeee as usual!]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay decided to keep her usual Thursday hours at the store even though she had a class this semester on this day. Since it was an early class, it still worked out pretty well. There was a lot to do today, too, since she had not been here in a few weeks. That meant some extra inventory to stock. She didn't mind.

The store was open for all sporting good needs.

[no ocd!]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Since Lindsay was going home next week, she wanted to make sure all the new inventory was re-stocked. She then made a list of gifts she planned to get Sam and her parents. Maybe she would do some shopping after her shift.

[no ocd!]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay brought her mp3 player with her to the store today, listening during quiet moments. She mostly was going through the holiday music she had on there to determine what was going on the CD she planned to make for Rinoa. After going to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra show yesterday, she had to include a few from them as well.

Not only was this distracting her from working, it was also distracting her from thinking about what happened over the weekend. That was a good thing.

[ocd free!]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
This week's display went unchanged. The same sports books from last week were still set up, though they were also on sale this time. Once that was done, Lindsay did some math homework while thinking about her trip home next week for Thanksgiving. It was kind of distracting, but not enough to disrupt her math skills.

[ocd free this week]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay set up a new display. This one comprised of various sports books, baseball included. Of course, being this week on this particular island, she was thinking of how dirty some of the baseball terminology sounded. She shook her head. Okay, maybe she giggled a little, too. It was one of those days.

It was possible the laughter was due to nerves as she stared at her phone some more. She was still considering a phone call to Barry. She also wondered if it was more than island wackiness that was causing her to think about him lately.

Getting anymore work done today might be impossible.
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
There were a few new shipments of sports equipment and various team jerseys. After unpacking them, Lindsay wandered around the store in order to place the new items on the shelves. She didn't mind being a little extra busy today. At least she wasn't bored.

[no ocd today]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay set up a baseball display since the World Series started last night. Not that she even cared at all who won. She added a few Halloween decorations as well just because she could. At least the display looked more interesting.

Even though it was daytime, the "dolphins in space" theme had been carried over to the brunch. The mural was nowhere to be found, but inside the tent that had been set up to give everyone a shady place to gather, there were silver and blue metallic streamers and balloons hung up, and each of the tables had a blue flower arrangement on it.

There were no fish to be found though, unless you counted what could be on the food table. Honestly, that might not really be fish either.

[OCD is up! Mingle | Buffet | Tables and Chairs | Rest of the Park | OOC]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay didn't set up a new display this time. She was too busy thinking about Homecoming and whether she would attend the dance or not. She actually ended up having a good time last year when she went. At least this time she would not be forced to go as punishment for skipping class. That was something.
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Today, there was a sale on baseball jerseys from teams in the playoffs this year. Not 1981. That would probably confuse some people. Lindsay would even set aside her homework to help any customers.

Yesterday had been a complete surprise for Bod. He hadn't expected Silas and hadn't even been ready for something of that magnitude to happen to him so even a day later, he was still wound up and more than a little energetic.

Bod had plans to meet Silas this morning but the older man wasn't there yet. Bod didn't know where he'd gone after they'd departed but he knew better than to think about it too hard. For the moment, he was sitting alone, drinking something warm and picking at the muffin in front of him.

Silas hadn't told him much about what he and the Honour Guard had been doing since he'd last seen Bod but he hoped that would change today. He wanted to hear about where Silas had gone, if he'd returned to the graveyard and if he'd seen the last of the Jacks eliminated.

It was hard to just sit there when his mind was buzzing with so many different things but he knew Silas would only chide him and give him a very cool, very assessing look if he was found to be out of control. So, he'd stay there for now and wait for his guardian.

[Totally open, yep, if you wanna bother Bod or meet Silas (a little later when I get him into the post) or just wanna use the business for yourself!]

Lindsay gave up on the football displays last week. This week, there was a hockey set up instead. Preseason was a good enough excuse. Besides, the Red Wings seemed to be more exciting than the Lions at present. It was the opposite back home. That was just so weird to think about.

Even weirder was the unicorn standing by the display. "You are smart and creative!"

Lindsay blinked. "What?"

"You are so talented. You set up the best displays!"

"Um." So eloquent.

She hoped it was gone by tomorrow, because she did not want to have to explain this to her parents.
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay attempted to set up a new display for the week, but she gave up pretty quickly. Instead, she decided to do some math homework. She did the next few days worth of homework as well. Just because she could.

There was a sign posted at the front door:

G.O.B. Bluth Presents:
The Ninth Annual
Three Minute Dates @ Caritas

hosted by A Matchmaker Named G.O.B.

GOB had somehow been able to count to nine despite not being around for the previous six Three Minute Dates, but he still didn't know what 'annual' really meant. But that wasn't important. The important thing was that at 6:00 precisely, the ligts went out and the Zombie Band started playing a familiar intro.

A burst of smoke hit the stage and the matchmaker named GOB stepped through it to make his grand entrance. A flick of each wrist and he was holding a deck of cards in each hand: all hearts. Except for a single four of clubs. GOB started moonwalking backwards, except he wasn't very good at it so it was more like walking backward with a limp. He clapped his hands together and from the cards fell burst forth a dead live dove, which GOB picked up and threw off the stage toward the bar swooped over the audience and hit Tino after bouncing off the bar attacked Tino.

"WELCOME TO CARITAS!" GOB yelled to the crowd as the music continued. "WELCOME! TO THREE MINUTE DATES!" He turned around and pointed to the back of the stage where a too-large banner dropped, showing the top half of 'THREE MINUTE DATES' while the rest was still rolled up on the stage floor. "I am GOB, your Once and Future Matchmaker. Here are the rules: I call your name and the name of somebody else. You two get together and make goo goo eyes at each other for a few minutes, and then I make a fireball appear to let you know it's time for the next round."

Tino had checked the fireball launcher GOB kept in his sleeve. Twice. It was as safe as it could possibly be.

"After the roaring sound of magical fire, I'll call out some more names and we do it again until we've done it five times. And if you don't like any of your dates, let me know and we can do it five more times in my hotel room." GOB could be as subtle as a bar on fire, something which Tino really wanted to avoid. Now let's get on with this stuff." As GOB started to reach for his notecards with the round one pairings, a quick burst of flame shot across his chest. "Huh. Shot off a little early. But I won't, ladies." Very subtle.

Once the bell or buzzer or windchime or fireball went off for the last time and the dates were all over, Jaina took her place back behind the bar for actual work. Might as well stick around and help out with anyone who wanted to chat with someone they might have clicked with on their dates, or to serve anyone who just wandered in once everything was done.

Tino was also available if anyone needed him. He was dateless enough to do it.

Hard to believe only nine minutes had passed since this all started, huh? The daters were still dating, hopefully no one had been transported outside due to trying to attack anyone they had to deal with for three minutes, and all they had to do was survive two more rounds before they could hit the bar.

Happy dating!

Lindsay was going to do something new during her shift. She decided to set up a football display with a Lions jersey and the jersey of their opponent each week. That meant an Eagles jersey, also. Whether she'd keep up with this or not was anyone's guess. She wasn't much of a football fan.
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay found a book about Mount Everest in the mountain climbing and skiing section of the store. After visiting a fake version in class yesterday, she couldn't help being curious enough to skim the book. It was all about the pictures anyway. Though looking at pictures was not nearly as impressive as being on the real thing, even in holographic form.
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay decided to set up a display featuring something from the four major professional sports in the U.S. This was in case any new people stopped in who were not from around here. Maybe she could even answer questions about them since she'd done enough research.

[no ocd due to lateness]
[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com
Lindsay wasn't feeling quite awake today at the store. The party was fun last night, but she didn't exactly get the best amount of sleep ever. The large coffee she purchased at The Perk was helping. Somewhat.

The store was open, at least.
