Not literally.

Today was Titanic Day, so Charlie was obviously going to play suitable songs.

Well, songs about shipwrecks at least. Starting off with 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' by that marvelous Canadian musician, Gordon Lightfoot. There were a lot.

Grooovy Tunes was open!

Or was it?

Charlie was absolutely there.

Unless she wasn't.

Who even knows any more?

Someone would have to try to stop by to find out.

Charlie had been out till the wee hours playing with her band for St. Patrick's Day. And then, of course, there was just too much craic to be had to go straight home afterwards, which is why she rolled in to Groovy Tunes without any stop at all between her evening fun and work.

She turned up the Irish tunes loud on the sound system, charmed an area of quiet, and crashed in the back.

Don't worry, though, there's a charm on the front door that will wake her if anyone comes in.

This week being Dr. Seuss week and in honor of his birthday - and okay, maybe a little to annoy Stewart if he dropped by, let's be real - Charlie was playing all the music associated with Dr. Seuss that she could find. Which would include all the songs from the Grinch and the Lorax, just to name a few.

When Kitty got married, she'd said she was hyphenating her last name because aside from "Pryde" being a great name, "Kitty Barton" sounded like a madam at an Old West brothel.

Anyway.

WELCOME TO
THREE MINUTE DATES

A couple minutes before 8:00, Kitty interrupted the zombie-played version of "Pony" to take the stage. You're welcome.

"Hello and welcome to Three Minute Dates! Thank you all for coming, whether you're here by accident, here on very purpose, or dragged here by Tino. I know there are other things you could all be doing." Ahem. "Here are the rules: every three minutes you will get paired up on a date with someone. When the gong sounds, it's on to the next date. It's fifteen minutes of your life, and then afterwards if you want to hang out, make friends, have one of Tino's horrifyingly on theme drinks, feel free. I just ask that you please don't have sex in the bathrooms."

She could not stop you from having sex in the bathrooms.

"Have fun! But not too much. Till later. At home."

It was the first Thursday of the month, which meant it was time for another Open Mic Night at Groovy Tunes, so Stewart had spent the majority of his day in the store getting prepared for it, which, this time around, included setting up a light display in the window around the sign in it advertising the event to flash in time with the beat of whatever was playing on the stereo at any given time.

It took him a few tries, and he somehow managed to shock himself more that once, but after a while, he almost found himself trying to figure out how not to avoid it, but rather to do it intentionally to purposely get that little burst of electric shock running through him again.

You know. Totally normal response to unexpected electrocution.

Charlie was here, but spent most of the time on various video calls with her bandmates trying to figure out the plans for their weekend gig. And to decide on what songs to play. Charlie was a fill-in for one of the members who had a 'family thing', so she didn't feel like she should have much say in their line-up, but she was happy to smile and nod as the others discussed.

Charlie was here and since the stereo was being difficult and refusing to play anything she wanted to, well... She decided that if you couldn't beat them, join them.

So, anyone stopping by would hear Charlie attempting to play whatever the stereo threw at her - and not doing too badly of a jonb either.

"No, really, I'm a senior now," Charlie said again. "I wouldn't make that up. The moose said so and everything."

She shook her head, listening to the Aunties talk (yell) - speaker phone at their end so they could all chime in. "No, I swear! I don't think I even could charm something like that. Half the people here are magic and - no, no, I'm not saying they're better than a Gale, of course not, it's just..."

This wasn't going at all the way she thought. "Yes. ... Yes. ... Obviousl- ... No. ... I mean..."

She moved out the door and headed as quickly as she could down Black Pond Drive to the park. "Right, right. ... Yep. ... Uh oh, I don't know what's going - hey!"

Charlie tossed the phone in the pond, brushed her hands off, and headed back to work.

No one should be surprised that a soggy delivery containing her phone arrived at the store just before she finished work for the day.

Coming back to Fandom after going home to Letterkenny for the break had been incredibly difficult for Stewart, to the point where he almost didn't want to. To the point where he'd questioned why he'd even bothered. His time there hadn't been bad by any margin of the word, but it had been different and challenging in ways he wasn't used to and, most of all, lonely, something that always sort of lingered there under the skin but became this heavy, palpable thing when he realized how less lonely he was back home. Hanging out in the basement with Roald (and Connor and Darien). The Christmas party at the farm, where Wayne actually got him school supplies and Katy told him she was actually proud of him. Reconnecting with Aly-cat and Bianca-Donk for New Years in the city, and finding out that Gae, of all people, had actually been asking about him. It had been a good couple of weeks, and the only thing that prevented him from pulling out for good and staying was that inevitable look of disappointment on Katy's face if he did.

Unbelievable, what that face could do. Unprecedented. Unrelenting.

Besides, it was the first Thursday of the month. It was the first Thursday of the year. And Katy had thought it was cool that he was getting into his music again, and doing something that involved bringing people into it. So he was back, and he was here, and he went almost straight to the shop to get things set up for that evening, even though every fiber of him wished he was still back in Letterkenny.

But the show must go on. And if he was going to breech an attempt to reach out to Gae, it was not going to be from some darkened corner on a sagging couch in his mom's basement.

Charlie was here, but engrossed in a family chat where her twin sisters complained to the cousins that Charlie got to go off to some fancy school, but they weren't even allowed to go to France on their own and kill vampires who may or may not be living in the catacombs and how was THAT fair?

Charlie mostly just enjoyed the chaos from afar.

"Yes, Auntie Jane, I remembered to check in on the twins for Mom. They're fine, just charming their through Scotland at the moment. They'll be back by the weekend unless they fall in love with twin Scotsmen, which isn't likely unless they run into ones like the ones in that time-traveling show," Charlie said, rolling her eyes.

The stereo system took that opportunity to plunge into a loud rendition of bagpipe music, which gave Charlie the perfect excuse to end the call.

Then she charmed herself some noise buffering from the bagpipe music.

Charlie spent most of the day today on the phone with Allie, interrupted frequently by calls from the Aunties. As Charlie had known and told Allie repeatedly, Michael was never going to be playing for their team. But Michael actually finding a boyfriend had not been on Charlie's bingo card for this month.

The Aunties were considering charming the situation away, but Charlie had met the other guy in question and that was a relationship quickly doomed to failure and best left to fall apart on its own. Now if she could just convince Them.

Yep, Arden was still out on the roof, bundled up on a nest (ha!) of pillows and blankets and cushions. It had been several days since the...everything...and she had to admit she wasn't doing much better. The healing Alastair had given her had done her a lot of good, but she wasn't getting better. She was still pale, still drawn, pretty much anything physical was a chore, even eating and drinking left her exhausted. She knew she was still running a fever, from the way she went from sweating to chills. And she was doing her best baby fawn impression every time she had to go downstairs to shower or change, legs trembling, balance shaky.

Arden hadn't really ever been sick before. Othersiders healed faster than humans both from injury and what few illnesses were transmissible. The first time she'd been punished with bronze, it had taken her awhile to heal from her physical wounds but, ugh, at least she hadn't had a fever. They were the worst. But she was hydrated thanks to the Khans buying a truly absurd amount of Gatorade and she even had a huge care package from Raiden made up of donuts and more cheese than she knew what to do with (yeah, that wasn't true, she was gonna use whatever she hadn't already eaten to make a mean macaroni and cheese when she was finally better, that's what she was gonna do), and she felt a little closer to huma--to normal for a bit.

So, despite the books and magazines and the presence of her laptop that Cal and Kamala had brought for her, Arden was feeling a little bored and a little antsy. Maybe some folks wouldn't mind coming to visit for a bit...?

Pulling out her phone, she started sending texts.

Caritas sort of looked like a Party City threw up, because Tino had offered to do the decorating. Of course there were balloons, streamers, glitter though it was hard to tell where it was supposed to have come from, confetti on the tables, and a butcher block banner up over the stage with "THREE MINUTE DATES" written in what was maybe paint? It sort of looked like puff paint but that had to be way too much work, right? Right?

A couple minutes before 8:00, Kitty took the stage with the zombies playing her on, and she shushed them to stop. "Hello and welcome to another Three Minute Dates!" she greeted them. "You know how this goes, unless you don't. Your names will be called into pairings every three minutes. You get together, you talk, the buzzer sounds, you go to your next table. If three minutes isn't enough time, maybe hang around a little, scope them out at the bar. And if you hate it, you just have to last five sets of three minutes, I believe in you."

She wasn't sorry if Tino signed any of you up. She was sorry for the letter banner he'd strung up over the bar reading "Have Good Banging," which was terrible English and odds were excellent that it did not stay up all night.

The sun had just dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow across the beach as the first notes of music from Arden’s playlist filled the air. The waves gently lapped at the shore, creating a soothing backdrop to the area. Tiki torches and string lights were set up around the party area, their flickering and colorful light adding to the atmosphere.

The aroma of North Carolina barbecue filled the air, with a long table set up with all the fixings—pulled pork, coleslaw, hush puppies, and more. For those with different tastes, vegetarian and vegan dishes were also thoughtfully provided. Sweet tea was the main beverage, but for those craving something colder, Squishies were lined up next to the drinks cooler. The centerpiece of it all was a giant cupcake that Graham had brought all the way from Daventry for the occasion.

Games were scattered around the beach: volleyball nets, cornhole, frisbees, and even a few board games for those who preferred to sit back and relax. A bonfire crackled nearby, with cozy spots to sit and chat, perfect for those who wanted to enjoy the evening at a slower pace.

It was set up for a perfect evening, filled with good food, great company, and the kind of fun that comes from being surrounded by people. Yes, it was another surprise party, the kind that shouldn’t be a surprise anymore, really. But that’s the point of parties—to celebrate the people you care about. Okay, so Barbie probably wasn't in Barbieland anymore, that much had become clear. She wasn't... exactly sure what to do with that information, but she was choosing to try and make the best of it! And right now? Right now, that meant she'd found a nice little bakery and coffee place in town, and ordered coffee and a cupcake. The person behind the counted seemed a little weirded out by the money she handed over, but accepted it, so Barbie picked up her things to head to one of the tables.

"... Oh, gosh, that was a close one!"

She really wasn't used to carrying things with actual liquid inside! But it was just a matter of just being a little more careful about holding the cup, right? Right. She made it to one of the window tables without another incident of almost spilling coffee on herself.

She had not yet thought about what the experience drinking it would be like, though.

Okay. So. She'd apparently somehow ended up taking over some other Summer's place in the multiverse for the weekend, and, god, she hoped it really was just a weekend because she missed her regular life where none of this weird other-dimension stuff happened except for tge rare occasional Loser Summer trying to take over her awesome existence.

Fine. It was fine. She just hopefully had to ride it put. In the meantime, she had to admit, this Summee didn't seem to have it all that bad. Cool apartment. Adorable cat. Some spending money...

And the coffee shop was pretty good, too, even if it wasn't a Starbucks. Because it wasn't a Starbucks? Whatever. Either way, she got something that was extremely froofy with just a hint of actual coffee flavor to UT and set up shop in a comfy chair, where she was also just texting Christina back home about this hopefully being over soon.

How she could still text her girlfriend from another dimension was not anything she cared to ever think about or figure out, thank you. This was more than enough sci-fi bullshit for this Summer Smith, and then some.

There'd been a state dinner at the White House last night and Charlie'd had maybe a bit more to drink than he should have so he'd gone back to his desk outside the Oval Office to have some coffee before he headed home. He'd thought he must have fallen asleep at his desk - a more common happenstance than you might think - but he'd woken up in a dorm room. How he'd gotten there he had no idea, but he was going to blame Josh for it.

Luckily the woman who seemed to live there was nowhere to be seen. He did a little judicious snooping and couldn't find anything helpful except that a look out the window showed him he was not in DC. He'd tried to call Josh. And Toby. And C.J. And Sam. Nothing. Finally he took a deep breath and tried Leo.

Nothing.

He straightened his suit as best he could - and okay, he'd had a sliver of one of the pies in the frig, just because his stomach was growling so loudly it was embarassing.

The next order of business was coffee, so he'd made his way out into this odd little village and found a place called The Perk.

"Your largest coffee, please, just black, and one of those breakfast sandwiches." The barista looked a little oddly at his suit but before long he'd taken a seat only to get up again. "Is there a newspaper I could buy? .... What do you mean I can just look up the news on my cell phone?"

And why did he have this niggling urge to go buy new undewrwear?

Charlie didn't particularly want to throw herself a birthday party, but she thought it would be fun to have some sort of open gathering for anyone who might want to stop by for any reason - whether they knew her or not. So she sent out a general message to everyone she knew and headed down to the beach.

She'd brought back a ton of treats from the fair shed'd been to in class and ordered a variety of pizzas, Chinese food, and drinks to set out on the picnic tables. There were probably even some alcoholic beverages there - hey, some of her friends were old enough to drink!

The water was refreshing and there was a bonfire ready to be lit when it got dark, with fixings for s'mores if anyone wanted. Maybe she'd even play her guitar by the fire later.

So stop on by for some food and fun. If you think you would have gotten a text you did - even if it came to you mistakenly, Charlie's happy to have you.

And, of course, it's an open beach, so anyone's welcome.

They might not have been billionairs, but a succesful popstar and a world leader could drum up quite an impressive budget together. The community center itself was transformed, to such an extent you wouldn't recognize it when you entered.

Unlike the white wedding, the colors were pleasantly dark, soft blacks and dark blues dominating the floor, the ceiling, the walls. The lighting implied the ambiance of a sort of upper class rave, with pops of color penetrating the darkness, and tasteful flowering plants lining the walls.

There was a dusting of glitter, a gentle mix of red and white, that blew across the floors and reflected the light at strange angles. The food served at the tables in the far corner - tastefully separated from the rest of the room with dividers that mimicked some of Van Gogh's darker flower paintings - was the work of the Hegemony's own kitchen; fancy finger foods fit for world leaders.

There was a dance floor. There was an expensive DJ, flown in from Milan. Envy's wasn't the only music being played, but it was in heavy rotation.

Come Friday evening, there was practically a festival area in the park. On one side stood a line of various food trucks, serving moddable food and beverages, courtesy of Envy and Peter's wedding budget. On the other, there was a merch booth for anything and everything Envy you might want - at least in terms of apparel or physical records. There was also a little cordoned off media area to one side of the stage, holding members of the music press from around the multiverse, ready to live-tweet the show back into their worlds.

And then, of course, there was the stage, looming over everything, just a little bigger than what a show in a small town park strictly speaking needed. The back of the stage was already lit up with giant block letters of made up of a gazillion light bulbs, spelling out ENVY. Just in case anyone forgot who tonight was really all about. (Or needed a reminder about who to Google.)

The paint rain across the island was still going, so hope everyone was either cool with continuing to be dyed various colors, or had brought an umbrella or perhaps a big newspaper to shield themselves with. Either way, the hope was everyone enjoyed themselves.

Sushi for Graham's birthday had been a standing tradition for almost twenty years now, whether they were in the same place or not. Apparently the stereo was in a fight with itself over the importance of Canada Day versus the Fourth of July. Anyone coming into the store would be blasted with patriotic music from one country or another - interspersed with folk music from each country. It would have been nicer if the songs weren't constantly interrupted or playing over each other.

Charlie, of course, found the whole thing amusing and whenever it got to be too much she just set herself inside a charmed circle of silence.

Charlie was absolutely at work today. Absolutely.

Was she in the store? No.

Was she busking outside the store? Yes, yes, she was.

But the door was unlocked and she was right there and therefore available should anyone want to go into the store and buy anything, right? Of course!

She was enjoying herself immensely, even when a certain squirrel came up to talk to her.

"No, Leroy, you could not pay me enough in rum or anything else to convince me to follow Summer around and sing her 'somebody done somebody wrong songs'. Not a chance."

Squirrel chittering

"No. Absolutely not. She deserves to be happy with whomever she chooses, which is clearly not you - hey! Assaulting me with nuts is not the way to get me to change my mind!"

A quick chord progression later and Leroy found himself on the receiving end of anything he threw bouncing back at him.

"See? No fun. Now go away and find yourself someone else to court. I think that sweet little squirrel, Ethel, is crushing on you, why not go talk to her?"

With Graham heading out to Daventry in a few days for the Knight Trials (and, if he won, staying there), they were running out of time to give him a proper sendoff. And so Arden had pulled a couple of late nights pulling a quick beach party together. There were tiki torches all around and a volleyball net, some hula hoops, some inflatable rafts and floats, a couple of beach balls...basically, she'd raided T&C's summer aisle for as much as she could scavenge and dragged it all back here and set it up around a bunch of blankets, beach towels, lounge chairs, and big umbrellas for folks who needed to hide from the sun. There were also plastic sand buckets full of sunscreen at various levels of SPF because she didn't want anyone getting sun poisoning at Graham's goodbye party. Seemed like a bad omen.

The most prominent aspect of the party was a hand-painted paper banner that said GOOD LUCK GRAHAM!! Arden was going to try to get everybody to sign it before Graham showed up, so he'd have a banner full of well-wishes from all his friends at Fandom. There were pens, markers, colored pencils, and even paints for people to use.

Okay, so decorations, food, activities, music, drinks, various kinds of sun protections...was she forgetting something? Arden had never once in her life thrown a party before, so she was probably forgetting something... Oh well, too late now. Hopefully if it was anything major, she could run into town and grab it. Or maybe ask someone else to. Were you allowed to ask people to help you with things if you were hosting?

Somebody needed to teach a class on how to throw a party. That was her takeaway from this endeavor.

But okay. This party was as ready as it was gonna be. Now just to wait until people arrived. Which they would. Right? Right.

[Open! Whether you got an invite directly, heard about it on the wind, or just decided to randomly take a stroll on the beach, please feel free to tag in! And, magically, it ends with plenty of time before graduation by the power of sparkles]

It was weird, but out of nowhere, Arden had gotten this abrupt craving for ice cream, one so strong that there was nothing for it but to head over to Chilly Boulder immediately. Maybe it was because she'd been reading outside on her balcony and even with her innate climate control, eighty degrees was still pretty sweltering. On top of ice cream, it turned out she also was really jonesing for interaction, so on her way to Chilly Boulder, she sent out a text to the usual suspects - everyone she went to school with, everyone who lived in Midnight, maybe three or four others, including a few numbers she didn't even recognize, but hey! Who didn't want ice cream on a hot day?

Hey, heading to Chilly Boulder, people should join me!

Hopefully that would get a couple of people's interest, too!

[open! If you're part of the above groups, you got a text. If you're someone Arden chats with regularly, you got a text. If neither of those apply to you, your number is clearly one of the random ones in her phone. Or maybe you just also wanted Chilly Boulder! ANYWAY IT'S OPEN TO EVERYONE IS WHAT I'M SAYING.]

Work? When the creative juices were flowing like this?

Charlie sketched a quick charm to amplify her voice and guitar, then stood outside Groovy Tunes to do some busking, guitar case open for any donations. She was quite popular with some of the squirrels, especially Leroy who wanted to hire her to serenade Squirrel!Summer. He'd left an entire bottle of rum in her case, though how he'd manage to get it there wasn't entirely clear.

Come on by, request a song, leave a tip!

The stereo had decided that today was the day for children's songs and Kid Bop. Charlie tried to explain that all the kids had gone home, but the stereo didn't care, so eventually Charlie just shrugged and went with it.

Two days after the eclipse and Arden was back on the roof, enjoying the height and the sunshine. It had gotten warm enough that she was back in her preferred outfit of tank top and shorts, and the decision to splurge on some sushi takeout had resulted in her being given far more than she could eat by herself and a cooler to carry it home in???

(One of the sushi folks had confessed that they made more on purpose, because they got to eat anything extra at the end of the day, and the manager had overheard and made them give Arden the extras, too, and the cooler to boot, which had started an argument, which had then turned into a whole thing about their secret relationship and Arden had fled because wow, overshare much, y'all?)

So now she was chilling on the roof with all the sushi she could possibly want and then some. Clearly the only thing to do was to send out a selfie surrounded by her sushi spread and a text that said, Sushi party on the roof? (Non-sushi options available!) Free for all! to her friends and neighbors.

And if it ended up getting sent to a few other folks as well, that just happened on Fandom sometimes!

[Open for residents and visitors! I'm trying to get this girl out more and making friends, so please feel free to mod getting a text from her whether it makes sense or not, because people, yay!]

Charlie had been trying to reason with the stereo all morning. "I mean, sure, yeah, Tay-tay is amazing, but hours and hours of her? Let's mix it up some!"

For a while it seemed as if her argument was working, but then the stereo switched to the radios's all Taylor all the time station and turned the sound up to eleven. Which led to Charlie charming it silent.

Dean returned to Fandom with a ton of food in his car. While on his trip he had located a small BBQ joint just over the border in North Carolina which had great reviews. They were more than happy to take Dean's money and prep everything for travel along with very detailed instructions on how to reheat or prepare all of the food provided.

So right now the dining room table was covered in good southern food, specifically East Carolina style pulled pork, ribs with a vinegar sauce and pulled chicken. A long with vegan friendly collard greens, black eyed peas, steamed cabbage, sweet potatoes and cole slaw. There was bread if you wanted to make a sandwich and for dessert there was sweet potato pie and banana pudding. For beverages there was a cooler of beer as well as a few gallons of sweet tea.

Arden, who had also been busy, prepared a BBQ version of jackfruit that Dean reluctantly allowed on the table.

Dean had also encouraged everyone to invite friends and sent out a few texts to people he knew on the island in case they might be interested.

[For the housemates or anyone who thought they got an invite. Arden and jackfruit modded with permission]
