Since there was no need for a mid-summer welcome picnic, the administration had splashed out on this one: the tables (located under giant tents) were groaning with sidedishes from corn on the cob to potato chips to baked beans to several dodgy-looking jello salads and the grills were set up along the beach cooking chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs and veggie burgers. There was an ice cream sundae bar, watermelons, enough lemonade and ice tea to swim in (please don't swim in it), coolers for more adult beverages if you were an adult or sneaky about it, and areas roped off for tug of war and relay races and pick-up softball games if people were in the mood to be more active than just stuffing their faces and waiting for it to get dark.

The music was playing loudly--one of the more esoteric of the zombie band's offerings--and the sun was shining. It's hot, it's humid. It's the 4th of July and there's plenty of free food to go around. Come on over!
[identity profile] professor-lyman.livejournal.com
If you didn't think Josh Lyman loved the Fourth of July as much as he loved baseball and apple pie and all things America, you had never met him. Naturally he'd volunteered to put up posters for the 4th of July picnic and fireworks all over town, including the dock (because as much as he'd like to keep all the corn on the cob to himself, that was kind of rude and so the students should come too. Sigh.)

FOURTH OF JULY PICNIC AND FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA
FREE FOOD
THINGS THAT BLOW UP
YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO BE THERE

The beach, after classes until it's dark enough to see fireworks. BYOB (not you, kids)

So, Dean woke up on a couch, with weapons hidden around the apartment. That, oddly enough, was the most normal part of everything happening today.

Because his life was a special one.

When he'd wandered downstairs, he'd found a restaurant that apparently he was in charge of for the day. Either that or the cooks were just lazy bastards who didn't want to be in charge.

Specials
Spaghetti-O's
Hot Dogs and Macaroni

Shortly before sunset, the party was ready to start. The park was decorated with classy black and white decorations, music was playing from hidden speakers, food and drinks were set up, there was a man from the bank with a stack of giant checks….

So apparently there were a couple things that set this apart from the normal Fandom party.

The setting sun was an unsubtle reminder that summer was about to end. And that was what this was all about, really, besides the orphans. One last big party with your friends who would be gone soon, a week before a brand new big party with your incoming friends. This was for you, Fandom, and also the orphans.

It was also probably notable that the guy throwing the party was not there yet. Which just went to show that you could still show up fashionably late even if you were the host, planner, AND decorator.

By the time he got home Sunday night, Hannibal had had quite some time to think, and he came to a few conclusions:

1. This was the most interesting his life had been in some time.
2. He hated to let good meat go to waste.
3. He rarely had a chance to openly kill and cook things that had displeased him.
4. He knew some very good recipes for shark.

He gathered his tools and utensils and headed back early, then stopped to speak with anyone he'd met previously to ask them to spread the word - there would be a dinner party just before sunset in the park. Cooking to happen just before that, if anyone cared to watch; butchering for some time before that, if anyone wanted to help.

[Open to everyone! Let's eat shark! Feel free to mod the dishes - if it's gourmet and sharky (or fishy and could be adapted to shark), he'd make it!]

The giant rooster outside the store had been temporarily bedecked with all the colors of the rainbow - and glitter, thank you, Sparkle - to welcome people to Dite's Decadent Delights First Annual Pride Party.

Look, there was more than enough crap going on in the world, Emma and Sparkle weren't going to pass up the chance to A) Throw a party and B) Make some money from it.

The door was propped open, the music was playing, and the island was cordially invited. Although, yes, you DO have to be 18 to buy some of the more explicit films, still. Sorry, kids.

[OOC: Open post, open party! Come on in!]

It had been made clear to Ron that there was a strange problem going about the island. This problem involved the sudden disappearance of many of the town's residents. Personally, he felt it was rather a matter of personal responsibility, but as the mayor he should make some effort to find them again.

And then advise them all to take some self-defense lessons. Because really now.

Anyway, he'd been scouting the woods for a while now. Rifle in hand, quiet, listening. Watching. So far? No hint of anything. Maybe they were all involved in a cult, like Communism.

...

There was a clearing. There was a very large clearing. Ron could not remember seeing this clearing on any maps. But it was there. And it was full of people-- in various stages of dress (and that dress varied from the weird to the bizarre)-- sprawled across the grass.

"Definitely a cult."

He cleared his throat and backed away. They could deal with... their own business.

Kitty was having one of those mornings that was just surreal enough that she wasn't entirely sure she wasn't dreaming. After being woken up by "Danny Boy" too early because of a wrong number, she'd ended up bringing her laptop to the Perk because coffee was just a necessity now. The problem was, coffee was a little difficult when you needed water to make it and they kept ending up with Shamrock Shake instead, so Kitty'd just scrapped her order and asked for a Shamrock Shake instead.

And now she was sitting two tables away from a teal deer. The deer wasn't sitting at the table, because deer, but it had written something down when she came in and now was standing on all fours with a notebook on the table. So if Kitty was wearing her glasses at the moment, it was less because she was focusing at all on her computer as much as she was trying to see what was written on the notebook.

For anyone wondering why the zombie band was playing The Girl From Ipanema on loop... Kitty tried. She'd asked for something with beat after the third time she heard the song, and the drummer's other arm promptly fell off when they tried to play, and she just wasn't dealing with that this week.

So elevator music it was. Elevator music as played by the undead.

After two weeks away due to the holidays, Jack dreaded his club shift today. He'd been keeping up with email and the most immediate tasks, of course, but there was still bound to be paper mail to open, Tiny and the DJ to deal with, budget spreadsheets to fill out ...

And, as it happened, a clogged soda gun that Tiny seemed to think it was Jack's job to fix. So he'd be ringing in his 2013 behind the bar, shirt sleeves rolled up, banging about with a wrench and pliers and trying to look like he had the faintest idea what he was doing.

He truly had the most glamorous jobs.

It was Sunday morning, which meant that Josh was out at a coffee shop (the Perk, rather than his usual DC neighborhood one) with a giant mug of black coffee in one hand and a copy of the Sunday New York Times in the other.

And the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and the Chicago Tribune, the Times of London and Le Monde (though he didn't speak French) in a pile on the table in front of him.

Shut up. He didn't have a problem. He was just trying to be informed.

And also he had a problem.

The memorial service was held on the flat hilltop overlooking the ocean, and at its edge rested an old-fashioned wooden boat, worn and weathered. There were chairs for those still too weak to stand and four torches, burning steadily, set in the ground at the four cardinal points. The day was bright and clear, a light breeze blowing out to sea, but despite that, the torches never flickered.

Karal, dressed in formal robes of black and gold, stood in front of the boat, waiting patiently while people arrived.

When everyone had settled, he stepped forward and began to speak. )

Christian hated feeling this helpless. The number of patients were growing, and nothing was relieving their symptoms. Even the kids with their magic mumbo jumbo could only bring fevers down for a short time.

He didn't want to admit defeat, but things were not looking good.

[ooc: Wait for the OCD! May take a few minutes as we have another space on the floral T-day bingo card. And, also, the huge pile of sick people. OCD is up, you may commence being ill.]

Christian came in early to the clinic and found his patients had doubled overnight and were starting to be stacked up like cordwood in the exam rooms. He definitely was going to have to make use of town hall. After a few handwavey phone calls to get things officially set up, he and the nurses transfered the patients over to the makeshift hospital. Fortunately, town hall was almost directly behind the clinic, so it was a short trip. Cots were obtained and set up around the large room in anticipation of more patients.

The mayor didn't seem to be around, but Christian left handwavey messages for Principle Washburn and Sheriff Mustang about the situation. They were definitely going to have to establish a quarantine. This was spreading like wildfire. He would insist that anyone tending to the patients was going to have to wear masks and gloves.

[ooc: Patients modded without permission, because they are in no condition to resist, muhahaha. Volunteers, feel free to tend to patients as they ping in. OCD coming has arrived!

Josh still didn't know how he'd gotten talked into this.

But there he was, with a giant mug of coffee, an even larger Supersoaker to keep the young 'ins in line, and a confused look on his face.

"We leave for John and Aeryn's wedding in ten minutes!" he called. "If you're not on the bus, I will leave you here and you can either try to catch a portal this late or explain to the heavily armed bride why you didn't make it."

Luke Skywalker Keith Partridge leaped up onto the tree stump stage, flipped his fabulous flippy hair (sadly, still Luke's) and turned to the rest of the bevelveted victims Partridge Family.

"And a one, two, three!" he called, reaching for the nonexistent microphone and began belting out "Come On, Get Happy!"

Or tried.

With Johnny Fever their long-suffering manager Reuben off stage (or behind a tree. Details!) clapping along encouragingly, Josh Lyman Keith's totally hot sister Laurie was playing the invisible keyboard and his equally smoking father mother Anakin Shirley was playing along on the tambourine.

...Yes, Anakin actually had a tambourine.

But brother Danny was refusing to play bass.

It was probably because Danny was actually R2-D2 and unlike the rest of these poor fools, hadn't been bit by a gremlin.

The Student Council had handwavily worked hard to put together a Parents' Weekend that couldn't be forgotten.  And hopefully not because of invasions, animal transformations or strangely shaped fairies.

A good part of the Park was set up with brightly coloured tables and chairs for mingling, relaxing, or simply watching the rare idyllic peace of a small pond.

To the left is the registration table, where the all-important name tag can be received while to the right is tables of delicious food and drink all under the watchful eye of Security.

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

Aziraphale had a bunch of cocktail napkins in fall colors, which he'd found quite conveniently located under the bar, next to the reglar white napkins. Of course, they probably hadn't been there until he'd decided to look, but that was the handy thing about being an angel.

Mr. George Oscar Bluth II,

This is a notice that the continued magical protection of the nightclub Caritas from the forces of violence have hereby been stripped due to your continued negligence in paying our monthly fee. Henceforth, any act of violence committed inside Caritas will no longer be magically blocked. The resultant damage from any violence inside your nightclub is therefore the responsibility of you and you alone.

May the gods have mercy upon your club since we no longer will.

"Sincerely, a bunch of wizard jerks," GOB read, replacing the names of the wizards with an insult largely because he couldn't pronounce their names.

"Ooh, I'm so scared. It's not like anything ever happens here. I mean, who's going to throw a punch anyway? Me? You, Tino? I bet you punch like a... like a ... like a chicken! NO! Like a girl. NO! A girl chicken. You punch like a girl chicken. I mean, COME ON! Nobody's even tried anything in months. Worst case, I just tell everyone that nothing's changed. How hard can that be? Come on."

Obviously, things would need to change. That's the first and foremost thought on Dolores Umbridge's mind this evening. With the new semester approaching and so many threats to her still around, things would definitely need to change.

The school was rebuilt, her position was secured and things would definitely need to change.

People would have to go. And if they refused, she would have to make them. That would be easy enough. They all seemed to doubt her power even with the displays she'd let them see.

Things would have to change. Dolores Umbridge would start these changes on Monday.

[And here's the first post for the last stand of Dolores Umbridge. This post is for the adults/teachers but there will be a thread for students to watch. OCD is going up and I am around but might be AFK for a short time to go to the grocery store. Thanks!]

The town hall has been tastefully decorated and the band has already started playing music that all generations can get into. Most of the troopers are in attendance and took the time to shine and buff their armor so they look even more... shiny.

Catering, provided by the Arms Hotel, has provided an open bar with the beverages of your choice and an extravagant buffet table that Gunther seems to be fussing over endlessly.

Over on the side is a trooper that is guarding a suggestion box where you can suggest names for the troopers for a dollar. (All proceeds go to the "Save the Teal Deer" foundation)

All in all it's your typical gala event in the town of Fandom and the doors are open for everyone to come in and enjoy the party.

Somewhere not far from Fandom, a bus full of very smart people was broken down. One decided to continue on the path to the island and tell them what was going on (he didn't have a cell phone, unfortunately) while the others attempted to fix the bus. Unfortunately, not a one of them had a degree in bus repair.

In Fandom, Dean Drax was disappointed that it was the day of the Academic Fair and none of his guests had shown up yet. Only one of them had even sent anything, some guy named Dex. Apparently he was going to lecture on aeronautics and robotics so he sent a model airplane. Of course. Because that was very scholarly.

Nevertheless, Drax put the airplane up at a stand in the park under a sign reading "Airplane. Feel smarter yet?" He feared that this was probably going to be considered to be the peak of his deanship.

After the model had been in place for about twenty minutes, Drax noticed something odd. There was a slight hissing sound throughout the park. He looked around and noticed that there were some very large snakes lurking. They seemed friendly enough, though. Drax sought one out and picked it up. It stared at him for a moment before its eyes glowed blue. Just then, Drax heard fanfare that lasted about half a minute. With a feeling of dread at the way this was going to turn out, Drax looked up. All he managed to say was, "It's--!"

And then a giant foot came from the sky and squished Drax into the ground with an inappropriate farty noise. When he would come to much later, Drax would truly hate today.

[OOC: Due to a lack of guest stars for the academic fair, the plan has changed a tiny bit, barely noticeable. There are moddable pythons in the park. They're friendly, if a little odd, and if they touch you (which they will certainly be trying to do) you will participate in a Monty Python sketch/scene. Feel free to pair up or go solo and rip off Flying Circus or the movies for this. Go nuts but remember, it's a comm, no NSFW.

The snakes will only be appearing in the park, but you're free to wander out into town after being Pythonized and interact with bewildered people there. Please note that once you've roughly completed the sketch/scene, you will be back to normal and remember what you just did.

Please note that while it may be clear to anyone really paying attention that the model airplane is in fact a cursed object that has brought this silly fate upon the park, the pythons will prevent anyone from getting to it. If you try, you will make a python go all glowy eyes and you will be turned into a Gumby. There is a plan for getting it all taken care of, I swear.

Oh, and Monty Python itself should probably be metaed if you feel you must compare these events to the acts of the comedy troupe, but I'd prefer it if you didn't touch on that at all, pretty please.

So, have fun! YouTube, Wikipedia, and Googling online transcripts are your friends! The sketches listed in the OCD threads are merely suggestions. You can go with any Python sketch you want. Doubling up on the same sketch is fine.

Dex is from Sky Captain, btw. Done with OOC notes, I swear.]

And upon finding out there was going to be a wedding reception here (and hey, didn't she meet Deadpool? she had no idea he was married), she really wasn't happy. Regardless, she set up the best she could, considering she'd never seen what a party here was supposed to look like.

No matter what the weather was on the mainland, the weather over the Fandom had warmed up to a beautiful spring evening, just perfect for a night of dancing.

A large tent had been set up in the park and it glowed with the soft light of what seemed like a million small white lights. The path leading up to the tent crossed a small bridge and then split, one walkway leading up to the tent, the other leading to the pond where a small dock had been set up. Two gondolas were waiting to take anyone who wished to go on a ride around the pond.

Inside the tent, numerous colorful backdrops made it seem like the students had been transported to Saint Mark's Square. The only thing missing were the pigeons.

Off to one side stood a table with a box for the final votes for the Prom Court.

It was time for Prom 2007.
