Just when you thought it was time for the island's collective consciousness to maybe move on from the whole sharkicane thing... along came Homecoming! Well, the theme was actually "Under the Sea", but like the Student Council wasn't going to have glitter-encrusted sharks feature heavily in the decorations? Please.

Of course, it wasn't just sharks: there were plenty of glitter-dolphins, and fish, and octopuses octopi octopodes too. Jellyfish-shaped lights hung from the ceiling, and strategically-placed LED projectors were set up to complete the underwater ambiance.

The Master of the Straits floated in the water, feeling the currents of the sea and wind. The fish were telling him grave stories about a creature in the depths. It was not a shark nor anything else natural. Was Raziel stirring in his depths? He cupped water in his hands and blew on the surface; it shimmered and silvered into a mirror's shine. But even peering into the Water Mirror, he could see no sign of it.

Well. He might look into it more later did the issue continue. For now, though, he was looking longingly at the land.

It was possible that the strange creatures that had invaded Fandom last week were still on everyone's mind when the Student Council had designed the decorations for Prom. Glittery cardboard animal-hybrid monsters awaited everyone as they arrived to the community center, and made their way inside along a blue and yellow carpet flanked by glowing, glittery red eyes.

Nothing in the decorations looked like a rabbit though. Some memories were just too much to make fun of.

Welcome to Prom, folks!

Caritas Presents:
3 MINUTE DATES

Unlike most 3MDs, there didn't seem to be a host. The zombies were just set up, all quiet, when the lights went out.

After a few moments, music started to play. A man's voice started to sing "Ooooooooh" while backing vocals repeated "come on."

The first chorus played before a voice that might have been familiar to longtime residents came up and completely failed to introduce himself. "Welcome to Three Minute Dates. I gave this CD to Tino years ago, just in case this thing I started turned a sexy, legal to drink in the rest of the country 21. In honor of that, have an open bar, courtesy of me, to make sure my name is never forgotten. When somebody reads your names or whatever happens, pair up, get drunk, and let those beer goggles take over for three minutes until this sound plays."

The song cued back up, singing, "You're hopelessly HOPELEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!" It was, perhaps, a mixed message.

"Have fun. And try not to bang too many people at once, like I'm definitely doing right now."

Finally the lights came back on. Jessica turned to Tino at the bar, taking a free drink, and asked, "Who was that?" Tino just shrugged. He clearly knew, but he was admitting to nothing.

[OOC: Three minutes = ten comments total, five per person. You don't need to do your threads chronologically, but try not to Joss yourself.

OCD starts now. If I fall asleep before it's done, don't mind me. I'll finish up when I wake up. ETA: That's happening. Final 2 rounds posted when I wake up. Feel free to start on the first 3 rounds now. FINALLY DONE!

If I made a blatant mistake, like skipping a character completely for a round or posting a pairing twice, feel free to grab me on AIM or in the OOC thread and I'll make a quick fix. Remember, attacks on your dates will get you teleported elsewhere on the island.

Also remember that most playing should happen on Saturday, but if you need to finish things up on Sunday, that's fine.

A regular post-dates Caritas post will go up Saturday afternoon sometime.]

It was the end of the term. A bunch of people Dante knew were leaving. Others were staying, but they still deserved a decent send-off to the summer. Besides, screw it, they'd all earned a distraction. So after sending text messages to a whole bunch of people on the island, Dante pulled on a pair of black and red swim trunks (hey, Isabela had asked), bought a cheap one-use barbecue... thing and a ton of meat, and made his way down to the beach.

Picked up a lost volleyball on the way, too.

And okay, if he could rope someone else into manning the barbecue, he would. But right now, he'd set it up, get a nice fire going, and then fantasize about Iz and Ada playing beach volleyball.

[[ wait for the ocd up! dante's ICly invited only those who know who they are, but it's a public party on a public beach, the more the merrier! eta: some use of weed in the comments. ]]

According to the radio, the way to stop this insanity was to wander about, searching for items that could be used in some kind of ritual. Hyacinthe didn't quite understand everything about it, but he was willing to render whatever aid he could in order to make this stop. Fortunately, he did not have to work alone; there were plenty of others willing to help him to search for something that would represent generosity.

The warehouse Ringo had picked out really was the best one of the lot: everything was intact and reasonably clean, just empty. The ground floor had a huge empty area that Dante had immediately claimed as the site of their party. Between him (and okay fine, his StuCo experience) and Ringo, they'd gotten a sound system set up and repurposed a minifridge or two for drinks. Dante was a little sketchy on where they'd gotten the cooler from, but between those three things and the stuff that didn't need to be cold, he figured they were full up on booze and soda.

He'd dragged Ada in to pretty up the place: glitter and shiny lights and all that stuff. (There was even a big, glittery WELCOME BACK sign now.)

Ringo had sent around the invites. Dante had finally let Anders know there was a party in his name that afternoon.

All set.

[[ ANDERS' WELCOME BACK PARTY. If you think Ringo got you an invite, you did. If you think your character heard about the party through the grapevine, they did. wait for the ocd is up! up early 'cause party, la. ]]

Yes, Ada was skipping work -- again -- but this time for an even better cause.

She didn't particularly want to be doing it today, but, well, she'd made a promise last week, and she'd be damned b'fore she broke her word over one of Fandom's stupid weekends.

"So this place got a little bit of everything," she said, pushing open the door and beckoning Hya in after her. "You ain't probably gonna find the fanciest phones here, but they got a few options for somethin' cheap an' serviceable."

Ada had fallen asleep in her tank last night. Where else did she sleep these days? But when she woke up... this, this water was fresh, she could feel the springs that were feeding into it, the cool currents sliding past her skin. Was that a rock? And another rock and... a fish? No one put fish in her tank, that was a recipe for disaster. Tasty disaster, but disaster.

A flip of her tail and Ada was barreling towards the surface at a speed no human could match, breaking past the water and-- huh. She couldn't see the bone yard anywhere. She recognized the smell of that bit of ocean, though, its familiar song starting to unfurl in the back corner of her brain as the sight of Selkie Peak loomed over her.

Ada sighed and hauled herself out of the lake on to a decent-sized flat slab of rock, ringing out her hair. "Well an' fine, I guess that's one way to get me to attend the reunion," she sighed, shaking her head. "Though can't say I much appreciate the magical kidnapping. You best put me back where you found me, Fandom, 'cause I got two shows on Monday when we hit Texas!"

And for the first time in three years, Ada Miller, the Arizona Mermaid and star of the Miller Family Carnival, was back in Fandom.

Out of consideration for his ailing roommate, Hyacinthe did not return to his room after his classes ended. Instead, he took the lovely Ada's advice and wandered through town to exchange some of his D'Angeline centimes and ducats for American currency. The paper and coins felt light in his hand after the reassuring heft of gold, but he had to trust in the honesty of the tellers. He was swamped with a wave of homesickness; back home, he would have trusted a Bryony adept to make the exchange and he would have known how much he'd gotten in the bargain and how long it would last him. He seemed to have more money in his fist than he'd had in his entire life leading up till now, but, then, he was a poor Tsingani bastard. He'd never held all the much and the numbers mattered nought when he did not yet know the price of milk or eggs or bread.

For a moment, he wanted nothing more than to be in the Cockerel with Emile or in the cramped apartment he shared with his mother, Anastaizia muttering to herself while she stirred laundry over their stove, perfuming the air with the scent of soap.

But the Prince of Travellers was home wherever he found himself and Hyacinthe shrugged off those feelings and purposefully strode down the street, looking for a place that caught his fancy and looked nothing of home. Which was how he ended up standing in line at the Perk, ordering something with a truly ridiculous name, half of which he didn't understand, and paying a price that seemed completely unreasonable. It was no jug of Cockerel red, but by the time he settled into a chair to people-watch, his jovial mood had returned--in no small part because he'd convinced the barista to lower the cost of the concoction for a kiss.
