"THAT'S TOO MUCH ORANGE ZEST, ARE YOU BLIND?"

"GRAB THE BUTTER, YOU MORON!"

Vincent and the cook were watching the Food Network in the kitchen. Priestly sat on a counter behind them both, taking notes.

Eliot was avoiding the whole thing. And occasionally muttering about backseat chefs. And wondering when this weekend was going to end.

Today's specials
Spicy Orange Zest Beef
Oven roasted potatoes with orange zest
Orange cookies with sweet orange glaze

"The words 'orange zest' have lost all meaning," Priestly noted. Eliot sighed in agreement.

Luke's was open.

Mercy wasn't entirely sure what was going on, but she'd decided to find a place where she could observe without looking too much like she was just staring at people.

Besides, the Perk had great hot chocolate.

So, she'd settled in with a cup of hot chocolate and a pastry to enjoy some people watching.

The handsome guy in the corner with dark sunglasses, well... he looked as if he might be doing some surveillance as well.

Now firmly under the control of Mr. White, the Auditors were becoming a little... more coordinated. They had found some of their powers failing that morning, which was terrifying, but then Mr. White had given them that look and they had given in to their bodies' apprehensiveness and scurried off.

Now...

"We must learn more," Mr. White crowed loudly. "Most of the humans are in there." He pointed at the school. "That is a fact."

The hundreds of Auditors gathered in front of him nodded meekly.

"So we must study it from the inside," he continued, "This is also a fact."

Another unanimous nodding session.

"Those inhabiting the town are also of interest," he added, "Which is also a fact."

More nodding.

"They have proven hostile so far. Also a fact. That means we can only conclude one thing."

He held up the axe. A good chunk of the Auditors held up their own weapons, mostly because they didn't want to be singled out for another experiment.

"CHARGE!" Mr. White yelled.

The throat protested. Interesting.

Seven hundred Auditors charged through the streets of Fandom.

For as long as Zoe could remember, she'd always had to be the solid one in any given group. When Wash had died, she'd known instantly that she couldn't let her emotions show in front of anyone but the ghost in her quarters. It was Mal's job to fly off the handle, to swear and shoot people, and it was her job to be a rock, and to bring him back to stability.

In Fandom, the situation was very much the same every time something terrible happened. Zoe knew that no matter how bad things got, she had to be strong, because falling apart in front of the students, or even the teachers, just wasn't an option.

Which, she supposed, made Anakin her Mal here, if only because imagining Deadpool in tight pants made Zoe's brain do things it oughtn't.

Cameron was gone. Her family was gone. Only Grace was left, and that was because Zoe wasn't letting her more than an arms length away. Her handwavey radio call for an emergency town hall meeting wasn't just about gathering information and rallying everyone together, although it was certainly damn time for that. Hopefully, it would provide a good head count for who was still left on the island. However many people came, it wouldn't be enough to make Zoe feel better, but maybe it would be a start.

Of everyone who worked at Portalocity, Trick only knew Dugal. But he couldn't read the missive that the main office had sent out without getting a small lump in his throat. He'd seen enough doomed, heroic charges to know one when he saw one.

"Síocháin Deep na tonnta ag rith a thabhairt duit.
Síocháin Deep an aeir ag sileadh a thabhairt duit.
Síocháin Deep an domhain ciúin a thabhairt duit.
Síocháin Deep de na réaltaí ag taitneamh a thabhairt duit.

The ancient Gaelic prayer rose to his lips before he knew it and he set out decanters of fine Irish whiskey in their honor.

And also to help him get through the day when people heard that portals would be closed after tomorrow, but mostly for them.

Flipping the sign to 'open,' Trick waited for his first customers.

Anakin came back from Connecticut with a new sense of purpose (and a deep hatred of the idiots who drove on I-95), several 2x4s, a hammer, and some paper.

A few minutes of banging later and Anakin had a giant bulletin board...thing.

In big bold letters he labeled one giant sheet of paper "CONFIRMED DISAPPEARANCES" and the other "RETURNING FANDOMITES."

He took a deep breath before scrawling information under the disappearances, then tacking up two dated photographs of the people in question on the blank area on the board he'd left for that purpose. For some reason it seemed vital that someone other than him remember what they looked like too.

He placed a piece of glass down over the sheets of paper (no use going to this much trouble if things would just get blown away or wet) and headed back to the trooper station to catch up on what he'd missed the last few days.

Welcome, one and all, to the Fandom High Homecoming Carnival! Here you'd find red and white decorations abound, including just about everything maple-leaf emblazoned imaginable, an assortment of moose-related things (including a crossing sign), and an assortment of delicious foods.

Rides, games and activities were set up all over the park, and an enormous set of speakers was playing a Canadian Greatest Hits playlist that seemed to be disproportionately Bieber-centric.

All the joy of Canada was brought to you by your friendly neighborhood Student Council. Enjoy!

Although the weekend was almost over, the esteemed alumni of Fandom High were not getting away without one last get-together. The park had been deemed too cold for the event, so the community center had been set up again with tasteful blue and yellow streamers and real flowers on the tables, although there might have been a few paper flowers still lying around from last night too.

There was plenty of food just waiting to be eaten, and if someone asked nicely, they might be able to acquire a drink or two as well. It was five o'clock somewhere.

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

Karla walked, yes walked, into the Church. God, it felt so GOOD to be free from those annoying and painful braces, free to finally move around with grace and freedom. It was a miracle, an honest and true miracle, that had freed her from the dreaded injuries that had made her unable to walk unaided.

And, like a good girl, she'd come to thank her savior. Now he just had to show up.

The church was somehow dimly lit, even though it was a bright day outside; the lit candles around the altar filling the church with an eerie and kind of gloomy glow. Karla stood mostly in shadow, the gold of her hair and alabaster of her skin contrasting with the darkness of the leather catsuit that clung to her perfectly muscled and fit form.

She had made a deal in order to be freed from her condition. And now it was time to live up to it.

Honestly? Karla couldn't wait to start.

Since the last time Father Ned had been on this island, he'd traveled the world, tending to flocks far and wide. His work, the work of God, was never completed and Father Ned refused to let Him down. Despite the fact that he'd been to so many places and seen so many things, this island held a special place in his heart. It was riddled with comas, drugs, sex and other evil things but he found himself drawn here like a train car to a conveniently placed cliff.

Father Ned pulled out a chair and stood up on it, deciding here, where people would come and go, was as good a place as anywhere to begin his altruistic mission.

"Friends, listen to my words," he started, holding a hand in the air to quiet the masses (because masses always came to hear him speak). "I am here today to speak to you about the evils of...Christmas shopping. Why, you might be asking yourself, could something where you are giving be considered evil? Because, my sheep, when you are giving a gift, you are telling that other person that you want SEX."

Father Ned was a terrible priest who didn't see all sides of the argument. As evidenced by this sermon.

"When you go out and buy an expensive piece of jewelry, you are telling the receiver of that gift that you expect payment in the form of CARNAL RELATIONS later in the day. This, my friends, CANNOT BE. Christmas shopping is all about the pursuit of SEX! The more ornately wrapped your gift is, the more SEX you expect to get. Or, even worse, you except KINKY things to occur that would make God shudder. You are telling the receiver of your gift that you expect them to dress up in leather or you expect them to let them practice their knot tying with one of their favorite silk ties. My friends, I leave you with this. When someone gives you a Christmas gift, GIVE IT BACK! Making the giver return that gift is telling everyone around them that you REJECTED THEIR ADVANCES. There is no need for Christmas shopping. NO NEED. Don't go Christmas shopping and you will remain FOREVER CLEAN."

With that, Father Ned gave the masses (there were masses, of course) a serene smile and stepped off his chair to take his seat.

[lololol IDEK. anyway, yes, Ned is Father Ned, out to give horrible sermons all over the place. open place in town so open!]

"We're glad to have you here," Ghanima continued smoothly. "But if you're here, you fight. If, for some reason you cannot fight, we ask you stay towards the back. This isn't a place for voyeurism. If you want a show, go find a television."

"Ghanima, you speak my language," Tyler informed her., before turning back to the group. "Two people to a fight, fights end when someone goes limp or says stop. We are not trying to kill each other here; we're trying to train. We're trying to improve. Got questions, ask one of us." He looked at his cohort. "Anything else?"

"Rules are on the door," she said crisply, "but we're happy to answer any inquires you may have."

The part of Jolee Bindo will now be played by Don Cheadle.

Jolee - wearing his trademark suit and a smile that made him look 20 years younger - was still complaining. "Dammit, Tino. I don't have time to open my own booze to feed my horrible addiction. Help me out, man! I'm old!" His hair and relative lack of wrinkles disagreed with that statement.

Suddenly Jolee stopped and his British personality, Molee, took over. "Oh, I am sorry, old chap. It's my advanced age, you see. It makes my mate Jolee a tad grumpy. If you would be so kind, please do not serve him any more liquor. He has a horrible addiction and it shouldn't be fed."

Tino didn't pay any attention to any of this. He was too busy waxing his weaselly mustache.

He knew it would be better come this evening, when he would go out and shine in his element, but, for now, there was drifting in the park, contemplating the letter in his hand that was addressed to his birth name, that lost little girl Calliope Stephanides.

Finally, though, a bit away from the duck pond, where the careless fowl went about their careless lives, he took a seat at the bench and pulled out the letter, which he'd already read countless times:

Honey mou... )

Reading through it again, Hermaphroditus still felt a catch in his throat; he let out a gasp of a sob and held the letter tightly to his tissue-enhanced breast. Oh, yia yia! But somehow...somehow...it was like he'd known all along.

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

There were white cloth-covered tables with red bouquets as centerpieces, and chairs for sitting, food for eating (including a cake that had been sent earlier that afternoon, courtesy of a certain undead-type in Los Angeles), and tiny white lights strung up through the trees, as well as some tasteful and simple white and red chintz wrapped around the trunks.

If it looked like another engagement party Rory had once attended (but with a different color scheme), well, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

[please to be waiting for OCD. OCD IS UP. Open to all! Yes, posted crazy early because my schedule sucks. Cake is courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] notstakedyet, who obviously couldn't physically be here himself but sent something along anyway. :)]

Parker was just a tiny bit wired.

She'd already had two mochas and was working on a third, her cap and gown on the chair next to her while she waited for Sydney. And her father.

And yes, that's a roll of Rolaids next to the coffee.

Happy Graduation Day!

Given the end of the semester still weighing on his mind, Xander could be found behind the counter poking at the text of the MCA classified ad, which would need to be revised. Also, wondering how many openings the apartments might end up with and whether it would be enough to deal with the influx of new teachers.

The office was open and Xander was in it pretty much entirely because he didn't want to be in his apartment right now. That music coming out of the back desky-chairy-filingcabinety office-office? Patsy. Justsayin'.

[OOC: Openated, though threads with Scoobies 2.0 are locked to them, and happen after any others.]

After running with Peter, and stopping by to see Jack, Parker headed into town for coffee and to pick up coffee beans. Just in case Jake needed therapy or a security blanket after being kidnapped.

[open for all Perkly needs, and caffiene security substitutes]

There's a frog-tank on the counter.

...there's also a Xander, yes, poking at the computers in between making phone calls and searching through desk drawers trying to find anything that looks like blueprints for the brand-new floors that suddenly appeared in the sub-basement. As such things do.

The office is open for tenants or anybody else who'd like to stop in.

After visiting Xander yet to be played out Parker headed for Fast Eddie's, and started practicing her shots before Weiss showed up.

[for [livejournal.com profile] weissguy_, but open for all your pool-playing and bowling fun]
