What day of the week was it? Who knew! Who cared! The important thing was it was the 31st, and everything else was officially next year's problem.

The bar was done up in a ridiculous amount of Christmas lights, which when paired with the usual metallic balloons and streamers, made for pretty good mood lighting. And sure, the mechanical bull still looked like sort of a lit up monstrosity but it added a certain something to the place.

SPECIALS
Confetti Champagne
Resolution Cocktail
Cranberry Gin Fizz
Frozen Espresso Martini
Apple Cider Spritz Mocktail
Peppermint Eggnog (alcoholic or non!)

Come one, come all, close out the year with significant others, friends, acquaintances, total strangers, and fun hats and glasses!

Saffron was in raptures over the sheer amount of tinsel for her to chase and bat about the store as Vi served various customers looking for last minute gifts and tried to steer people away from games that might have resulted in tense situations over the next few days degenerating into fist fights (all the store's copies of Risk had been locked behind the counter since November for exactly this reason).

The usually cheerful Little Bot on the other hand was regularly beeping sadly for Vi to help detangle tinsel from around his wheels.
giveittoyoursister: (Nice threads)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi was not overly a fan of the sweater the island had saddled her with, especially as despite it's seemingly shoddy construction, the arms were quite firmly attached and quite impossible to remove.

Still, it could have been worse, as the island had also decided that Saffron needed a sweater of her own, and she was extremely displeased by this turn of events. Save her, Snuggle Human, she was trapped!
giveittoyoursister: (My hero)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Even though the store didn't actually do a sale this time of year, that didn't seem to stop them getting a sudden spike in of orders.

Not that Vi was able to actually see how many they'd gotten over the weekend, since apparently the island was counting the register as a screen and just had that video of burning wood on it.

Oh well, guess she wasn't getting to that today.
giveittoyoursister: (Nervous lean)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi was not sorry to have missed the latest round of weirdness, the previous time that had happened had been enough to stir up some very uncomfortable feelings, and she hadn't needed a repeat.

The displays, however, had not seemed to have gotten the message.
giveittoyoursister: (Glow cause I'm worth it)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
The Halloween decorations were still up, because they were too cool to take down right away, especially with Little Bot still showing off his glow-in-the-dark paintjob.

Besides, Vi had an equally important holiday to observe. Half-price candy week.
giveittoyoursister: (Looking down at the people)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Despite Vi's best efforts at assisting while a kitten, and their absence last week, the store was well and truly decorated for the season, with various selections of spooky dice, scary boardgames and bloodcurdling tabletop games set up around the store for people to check out.

But the truly terrifying thing was Saffron, who had Really and Truly DIED as a result of her terrible humans neglecting her (just ignore the twitching tail) and was stretched out on the counter Utterly DEAD (and not moving at all) as a dire warning.
giveittoyoursister: (The fresh hell is this?)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
There was a bird. No some small bird that would have Vi would be picking up Saffron to keep her from trying to play with it (which Vi was doing, but not out of concern for the bird), but some large one that looked kind of like the flamingos from the park, only with white feathers, and a long curved beak and a black head and tail, so not really like flamingos at all.

Though Vi suspected that it would be much happier out in the park rather than perched on the dice bins, sifting through them with its beak as if trying to find the shiniest (or tastiest?) ones of all.
giveittoyoursister: (Something something unclean hands)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Look, there was no reason in particular for Vi to break out all the games related to cats and being one (as well as a few copies of Wingspan), but she had. SO that was what the store was like today.

Saffron, of course, assumed that this was all being done to honour her. It was what Snuggle Human was there for after all.
giveittoyoursister: (Looking down at the people)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
It had taken the better part of a week, but most of the glitter was finally either gone or at least corralled to around the painting tables.

Which meant that the group preparing minis for their all-ranger game were going to end up with some very sparkly animal familiars...
giveittoyoursister: (Looking down at the people)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
The good thing about the nice weather was that it made cleaning up the store after all of the previous week a much more pleasant affair. And boy did the store need it, between the glitter and the pumpkin guts, and several new dents in Little Bot's Sourcebook of Doom, it had certainly been a week.

Saffron even condescended to sitting on the step (which was as close to Outside as Saffron cared to get, Snuggle Human) while Vi combed those last bits of glitter out of her fur.
giveittoyoursister: (The fresh hell is this?)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi had meant to get the month off to a start by swapping over a bunch of the summer themed games for some of the fall themed ones, but she'd gotten distracted almost immediately when she'd absently chewed on her thumb while going over her choices.

That absent chewing had turned to a confused licking. First of her lips, then the thumb in question, then several bits of random skin.

"Why do I taste like pink?"
giveittoyoursister: (Something something unclean hands)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Break weeks always had Vi at feeling a bit at odds with herself, like this was when they'd finally realise she wasn't supposed to be here or that something was going to happen.

At least she had plenty of work to keep herself occupied, especially because Saffron was still demanding she make up very moment of attention that she'd decided Vi had failed to give her.
giveittoyoursister: (Glow cause I'm worth it)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi, who was in a very good mood, was (for reasons directly related to said good mood) also pretty late for her shift today, only actually opening after her class. So it was a good thing that she knew her boss was going to be pretty forgiving about that.

Not so forgiving was Saffron who had immediately flopped at Vi's feet because she'd been abandoned and was going die from lack of snuggles if Vi didn't fix that immediately.

So Vi was doing most of her work today with a very dramatic cat tucked into the front of her jacket.
giveittoyoursister: (Deploying protective hoodie)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
The thing with having class during the middle of her shift was that things happened like leaving the store with glitter dice, and coming back with an exceedingly grumpy looking toy cat, and none of that seeming at all strange.

Vi immediately set about finding a place for the toy Anakitty, placing him in with the displacer plushies while Saffron looked on in disgust. Snuggle Human didn't need any toy cats (as opposed to cat toys), she had Saffron for all her cuddling needs.

[Open]
giveittoyoursister: (Smug little shit)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Steph was still of a feline disposition, so Vi had brought her along to the store, much to Saffron's dismay.

It was bad enough that Food Human was stealing all her rightful snuggles, and she was being forced to (ugh) share her salmon, but every time Snuggle Human had to actually do anything that required her attention, Food Human would immediately start trying to play with her.

Like now, when Food Human was pouncing on her tail.

Help, Snuggle Human. Help.
giveittoyoursister: (You suck)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Because reasons, Vi came back from class with pizza for lunch. Several boxes in fact.

Enough pizza that some people might even venture it was too much pizza.

Those people were wrong.
giveittoyoursister: (Nervous lean)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Saffron had been Deeply Neglected over the past few weeks, what with Snuggle Human turning into a kitten and Food human cruelly keeping her from her. Then, Snuggle Human hadn't shown up at all last week. All in all, she didn't know what to do with herself and was making that Snuggle Human's problem.

So now Vi had a cat sprawling over all over her demanding pets while also making a show of ignoring her. She was not going to get much work done today.
giveittoyoursister: (On the lookout)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Overnight the displacer and mimic plushies had been joined by a group of oddly adorable tentacle things.

They didn't seem to be getting into any trouble, and they were thematically appropriate, so Vi wasn't moving them, but she was keeping an eye on them. Just in case.
giveittoyoursister: (Thoughtful sit)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi's plan of doing her homework for Anakin's class last minute and from things she could find in the shop had hit an unexpected stumbling block. After all, it wasn't like she had an abundance of middle aged men in her life she was good enough terms to ask for advice here, and she most definitely had never had any interest in the contents of Vander's bedside table.

So don't mind her as she kept looking through the inventory for inspiration.
giveittoyoursister: (Looking up)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
The store was never not at least a little bit ready for Pride, but the big box of decorations had been slightly belatedly but enthusiastically been dragged out of storage and set up about the store, with more flags hung out and the pin displays and themed sets of dice put out in an even more prominent spot than usual.

Like last week, Vi had the model paints out, but today she was touching up Little Bot's rainbow paint job and mostly ignoring the half-finished and in her opinion not very good sketch she had in her notebook.
giveittoyoursister: (Let's just talk about this)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
As was becoming something of a habit, Vi was spending most of her shift doing the homework for Anakin's class using things from the store.

In this case she was painting a pair of minis like Anakin and Ahsoka, though the horns on the latter were proving tricky, because they definitely weren't tiefling horns.
giveittoyoursister: (Looking down at the people)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Much like last week, once Vi had gotten the store set up, she started working on her homework for Anakin's class.

Which at this point looked a lot like arranging various minis on top of Little Bot while carefully attaching the contents of several large bags worth of leftover mini Easter eggs.

If all else failed, this was going to be delicious.
giveittoyoursister: (The fresh hell is this?)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
There was a bit of a theme going on with the games on display today. A theme that Vi wasn't going to get until after she took a break to go to class.

Before then, however, she was going to be frowning in confusion. A lot.

Afterwards she was also going to be frowning in confusion, just for an entirely different reason.
giveittoyoursister: (Nervous lean)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
The store was quiet and the gremlins were keeping to themselves, so Vi was flicking through the course brochure for the summer, trying to figure out what sounded interesting, or what the moose might end up putting her in.

None of which were anything she'd ever thought would be a concern for her.

[Open]
giveittoyoursister: (Nervous lean)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Gap weeks tend to leave Vi feeling a bit at loose ends without any classes, and even if she now had plenty of things to fill time with that weren't literal beating on the walls, it still had her a bit moody.

Which possibly wasn't helped with all the minis in pride of place on the display being ones the girls had decorated during their various visits.

It especially didn't help that the gremlin running the fungus zombie game had a definite air about them that was awfully similar to Steph's when she'd thought up something really dire to put her players through. She was going to have to watch that even more closely.

[Open]
giveittoyoursister: (Glow cause I'm worth it)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi had brought the girls along to work with her today, much to Saffron's utter dismay.

Bad enough she had to share Snuggle Human with anyone, let alone a pair of human kittens (she was blaming Food Human for how very loud the smaller one was). No she would not be mollified but the sheer number of treats and ear scritchings the taller one provided! No, she wasn't purring, you were purring.

As for Vi, she'd just gotten the girls settled in the mini-painting area when the gremlins' fungus zombie game suddenly turned vicious, so she and Little Bot would be taking care of that for a while.

[Open]
giveittoyoursister: (Looking down at the people)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi had a vague ominous feeling, almost like a pirate had decided to get over invested in her love life again.

Though maybe the feeling just had to do with the fact the gremlins seemed to be setting up another campaign in that fungal zombie setting and they'd gotten pretty emotional about everything last time.
giveittoyoursister: (Not great Bob)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Was Vi at work today despite waking up with a spring cold and knowing Steph would make a fuss and sent her home the moment she realised she'd come in sick? Yes.

Had she come in because she knew Steph would make a fuss about her being sick? Possibly.
giveittoyoursister: (Looking down at the people)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Since Saffron was in one of her extra clingy moods today, Vi was doing most of her work with a cat draped around her shoulders, Little Bot fetching her anything she couldn't reach near the floor in case she dislodged Saffron while bending over.

Luckily, it was shaping up to be an otherwise quiet day, with even the gremlins having a relatively chill gaming session.

Saffron for her part, was exceedingly pleased with herself. There was no way Food Human could steal Snuggle Human's attention now. None.
giveittoyoursister: (Wha hey?)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
All the stock was flipped over when Vi arrived at the store this morning. All of it. Far too neatly for it to have been the work of either the gremlins or Saffron, and Vi knew for a fact that Little Bot wouldn't have done it.

It was a mystery. A very tedious to fix mystery.
giveittoyoursister: (Looking down at the people)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi had been having a quiet morning in the store, until the gremlins, possessed of some notion or the other, had decided it would be a brilliant idea to creep up on Saffron with a handheld scanner they'd acquired somewhere.

With entirely predictable results.

So now Vi was just watching from behind the counter and wondering if she should step in now, or wait until the gremlins had really learned their lesson.
giveittoyoursister: (Curious)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vacation had left Vi feeling pretty great, and she couldn't help but notice there was still something lingering in teh air, if Little Bot breaking out his pirate costume, and the rpg display tables were any indication.

One person who wasn't feeling it was Saffron, who had been forced to endure yet another abandonment. Woe.
giveittoyoursister: (Thoughtful sit)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi was, for some mysterious reason, a lot more relaxed this week, if covered in a lot of very obvious hickeys.

She was so relaxed that even Saffron's dramatics about the week that she'd had to endure and the conditions she was forced to labour under didn't get much of a reaction.

Which led to even more dramatic flopping.
giveittoyoursister: (Gratuitous back icon)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
On the one hand, Saffron had finally abandoned her high perch and was back to twining around Vi's ankles.

On the other, that was because the heater had broken, and the shop was far too warm for Saffron to be in her high hidey holes.

So once she'd made sure Saffron's water bowls were refilled, had stripped down to her undershirt and was standing in front of the heater with the repair manual and a toolbox.
giveittoyoursister: (Looking up)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
The good news was the vet had found nothing physically wrong with Saffron. Though they'd had plenty to say about her attitude.

The bad news was that Saffron had still not forgiven them for taking her and was lurking on the tops of the shelves, glaring and occasionally knocking the odd set of dice or mini off. Just to let Vi know she was still up there.
giveittoyoursister: (Looking down at the people)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
So, Vi may have looked like she was mostly snacking on cupcakes between serving customers today, but actually she was engaged in vital research for her homework assignment for Tony and Steve's class.

Research which involved an extremely large selection of cupcakes from J,GoB that she'd bought on her way in today.

Tasty, tasty research,
giveittoyoursister: (Pessimist)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Due to the fact Vi and Steph were currently midway through a...let's go with spooning issue, Vi had not exactly been having the best night's sleep over the past few days. So she was grateful for not having any classes today, and for the store being slow enough that she could sneak in the odd nap between customers.

Saffron was less pleased that her humans' lack of snuggling each other was not somehow translating into more snuggles for her, and was perched on Vi's sleeping chest glaring at her. You were falling down on the job here, Snuggle Human.
drumsticksandd20s: (Yikes)
[personal profile] drumsticksandd20s
Steph, in a move that she'd been considering for a while but had still managed to make come off as kind of impulsive, had started off the year with a trip to Ink 'n' Holes yesterday and was moving a little bit gingerly today as a result.

Naturally there would be a whole load of new stock coming in first thing in the morning that all needed to be taken into the storage room and inventoried. Because of course she would have a bunch of sharp-cornered boxes to wrangle exactly when she had to be careful to avoid accidentally bumping into said sharp corners, and honestly? She should've taken that into account when she booked the appointment, so oops.

The gremlins had apparently thrown their own New Year's party in here, judging from the amount of glitter and confetti that Little Bot was busy cleaning up, but since there was no damage to any of the merchandise Steph wasn't going to get on their case about it.

[OOC: Open! SP will definitely be a thing.]
throughaphase: (did you just say that?)
[personal profile] throughaphase
It was New Year's Eve, and Caritas was decked out for the holidays. The bar itself was decorated with silver fringe, there were gold, black and white balloons arranged in corners (so anyone trying to hide either couldn't, or they could really hide), silver and gold garland hung from the ceiling, and Tino had even dressed up. Meaning he was wearing a short sleeved t-shirt that looked like a tuxedo. It was the thought that counted.

The zombie band was playing the hits, the bass player dressed in a dashing red velvet jacket for some reason, and Kitty had had fun with the specials for the night.

SPECIALS
Dumpster Fire
Yule Mule
Baltimore Egg Nog
Whiskey Shamash
25th Hour
Fergeue Fruerzangble FuerahsksdahdsadhasjdhWTF Flaming Sugarloaf Wine Thing

Kitty stared at Tino when she saw that last one added. "There's a USB-powered menorah because fire and drunk people is a bad combination and you decided to do this?"

Anyway. There was also a very easily accessible fire extinguisher on top of the bar if needed. Don't let it be needed.
giveittoyoursister: (Feet on seats)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
It was quiet enough that Vi probably didn't really need to be in the store today, especially when they'd just gotten back from Haven Springs, which had been all kinds of nice, even if Vi continued to be slightly dubious about just how how much Ryan enjoyed nature, and maybe a little disconcerted by the fact Steph's friends were kind of becoming her friends too.

But by the same token, it was quiet enough that Vi was having a pretty chill day with the most demand on her time coming from Saffron, who had been cruelly abandoned once again.
giveittoyoursister: (Nervous lean)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
The store was open for people who'd left their gift shopping to the last minute, but there was a sign up by the register telling customers to talk to the roomba or the shop cat, (their better bet was Little Bot) as Vi was far more focused on the notebook she had open in front of her.

Look, it was very important she get this scenario right. She couldn't give Steph a worse present than last year, even if Steph wouldn't care, Vi would.

[Open!]
giveittoyoursister: (The fresh hell is this?)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi was not overly impressed with the greenery that had overtaken the store today. She had things to do, and none of them were the customers or the regular game groups.

Saffron, on the other paw, was livid. How dare this impudent shrubbery attempt to steal even more of her beloved Snuggle Human's attention? How very dare? Have at you!

Undeterred by Saffron's fury, the mistletoe rustled in anticipation every time the door opened.

[Open!]
giveittoyoursister: (Wha hey?)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi was having a very sparkly day.

In addition to the tinsel, which Saffron was a great fan of and Little Bot less so (it got caught in his axles), there was a delivery of various glitter filled and liquid core dice. Which she was currently arranging by colour and size.

[Open.]
giveittoyoursister: (Little lite b&e)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
In general, the store had cultivated a vibe that meant most of the customers didn't suddenly turn into entitled assholes this time of year, and Vi's shifts tended to be more or less the same level of chill as any other.

Of course, the key word here was 'most'.

For those who couldn't read the room, however, that was why Little Bot had his beloved and battered Cypher rulebook.
giveittoyoursister: (Chillaxed)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Vi found that the store had been left far more chaotic than usual (looks like the gremlins had been de-aged too, Vi was glad to have missed that), and Saffron had had to be coaxed down from the tallest shelf, but instead of tidying (or rather helping Little Bot with the tidying) it like she should be, Vi was stretched out on a bunch of the pillows.

That weird ominous feeling that'd been dogging her had passed, but in its wake, she felt oddly drained and weightless and generally unsure what to do with herself. Hence the not quite napping.
giveittoyoursister: (Thoughtful sit)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
On the one hand Vi didn't have a strangely ominous feeling today.

On the other she was deeply confused why a dream about hugging it out with a mechanical werewolf while wearing bandages instead of a shirt hadn't left her with that strangely ominous feeling.

In her infinite wisdom Saffron could clearly see that this was all the dire result of not snuggling a kitty enough, and had helpfully sprawled out on the counter so Vi could self-medicate.
giveittoyoursister: (Looking up)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
That extremely mysterious ominous feeling hadn't really gone away, but had only intensified over the past week, and Vi couldn't put her finger on why.

Which may have had something to do with why she was sneaking the last of the Waffle House leftovers Steph had brought home (which by some miracle had actually stretched out this long) as a late breakfast between customers.

[Open.]
giveittoyoursister: (Hmmph)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
That vague sense of intermittent foreboding was back, so Vi was going to take the extremely healthy approach of ignoring it in favour of working and giving Saffron attention in between various shop chores.

Naturally Saffron was not impressed with how Vi had divided up her duties. Especially after the weeks, weeks of neglect she'd suffered.

[Open!]
giveittoyoursister: (Looking down at the people)
[personal profile] giveittoyoursister
Saffron had been cruelly abandoned for days upon days, with only Little Bot to cater to her every whim. As such it was vitally important that she made her displeasure known by very ostentatiously ignoring everyone until they realised how terribly hard done by she was and made the appropriate offerings of salmon and snuggles.

Meanwhile, Vi, who was putting up decorations and helping Little Bot with fixing up his pirate costume, was very grateful for Saffron not getting underfoot while she had so much work to catch up on.
