So, Vi may have looked like she was mostly snacking on cupcakes between serving customers today, but actually she was engaged in vital research for her homework assignment for Tony and Steve's class.

Research which involved an extremely large selection of cupcakes from J,GoB that she'd bought on her way in today.

"Oooooh, cupcakes." Don't mind Steph trying to swipe one on her way past into the office, Vi. You'd be willing to share them with her, right?

Just about anyone else would have gotten at least a glare for that. At least. Steph, however..."Knock yourself out."

Steph got special girlfriend privileges. Nyeah, everyone else!

"I love youuuuuu," she singsonged. "What was the occasion?"

Vi didn't even pretend not to be biased when it came to the people she cared about.

"Love you too," she said, picking out another cupcake. "Got an assignment."

"Baking class?" Steph guessed. "You bought approximately half a million cupcakes as homework?"

Not that she objected if she got to partake of them.

Vi nodded, picking apart her cupcake. "We have to make this big fancy cake, and I needed ideas."

"So you're taste-testing a bunch of different flavors." Steph came back out of the office with the notebook she'd been looking for and perched herself on the counter. "You know I'm here to bounce ideas off of."

"Yeah, I know," Vi said softly. "Figured I'd try and work out what flavours went well together. Be a waste to make this great big thing that didn't taste any good."

Buying this many cupcakes was not a waste because one way or another they were getting eaten.

"Well, here." Steph held her cupcake out to Vi. "See how this one goes with yours, and I'll trade you a bite. Sound good?"

Yeah, between the two of them those cupcakes would not go unappreciated.

"Okay," Vi said, splitting her cupcake in two and trading one half with Steph. "Here goes."

Vi was a long time appreciator of cupcakes.

Steph hadn't given it much thought before, but it occurred to her that she could be a much more active cupcake connoisseur, especially if it was a fun activity she shared with Vi.

She leaned over to give Vi a quick kiss as she handed over half of her butterscotch cupcake.

"Bottoms up, I guess?"

She didn't snicker. Shut up.

I was good to have shared hobbies, especially when there was the chance they could engage in vigorous debate over the merits of any given cupcake.

Vi snickered enough for both of them as she popped a bite of Steph's cupcake and her own plain chocolate one in her mouth. "Dork."

Or, if they found one in particular they both really liked, join forces to demonstrate their enthusiasm about it. And since they tended to feed off each other when they were really enthusiastic about something, well.

Steph beamed angelically at her through a mouthful of chocolate and butterscotch.

"I don't know what you're talking about, babe."

No cupcake stood a chance against their combined enthusiasm.

"Of course you don't," Vi said dryly, leaning in to steal a kiss. "What do you think?"

It would have to be a hardy cupcake indeed to hold up to both of them.

"That's pretty damn good, actually," Steph said, making a show of licking frosting off her lips, then leaning in to chase Vi's lips as if she'd found another spot of frosting there. "Oh, wait, you meant the cupcakes?"

Lesser cupcakes would give up in despair.

Vi gave her a gentle shove with her shoulder. "Yeah, I mean the cupcakes," she said, then paused significantly. "Well, also the cupcakes."

It would be a true test of a cupcake's mettle.

Steph took another bite, waggling her eyebrows at Vi. "Then that's a yes on both counts, although the cupcakes do not take first place in my flavor rankings, in case you were worried about that."

Whether it'd be able to take them or just melt.

"That's great," Vi said, mostly sincere. "But I can't serve up a me flavoured cake."

Or both.

"Not to your class you can't," Steph said immediately. "But at home and in a less literal sense..."

"Well, that's completely different."

It was an actual coincidence that the next cupcake Vi offered Steph had little purple flowers stuck in the frosting.

Coincidence or not, Steph looked down at the cupcake, then up at Vi, then down at the cupcake again, then up at Vi again, and snickered before leaning over and kissing her on the cheek.

"And not relevant to your baking research, I guess."

She took a bite of the cupcake, which turned out to be vanilla and lavender.

"Oh. That's... different," she said, blinking in not-actually-displeased surprise.

"I already know what you think of how I taste." Not that she minded hearing about it again.

Vi titled her head curiously. "Good different or bad different?"

Oh, Steph would absolutely tell her about that again, but maybe not where the customers could hear. She was halfway afraid Saffron would find a way to knock the entire box of cupcakes onto the floor if she did.

"Surprisingly..." She took another bite, chewed on it thoughtfully, and offered the cupcake to Vi. "Good, actually. Just not a flavor I expected."

Steph was right to be concerned. Saffron would.

Vi bit into the cupcake. "Huh, interesting." She probably wouldn't be game to try making like this though.

And then she'd lie down in the middle of the mess to spite her recalcitrant humans.

"Right?" Steph picked another one out of the box at random and handed it to Vi. "I don't think that would be an everyday go-to flavor for me, but it's an interesting change from the usual."
