Steph, in a move that she'd been considering for a while but had still managed to make come off as kind of impulsive, had started off the year with a trip to Ink 'n' Holes yesterday and was moving a little bit gingerly today as a result.

Naturally there would be a whole load of new stock coming in first thing in the morning that all needed to be taken into the storage room and inventoried. Because of course she would have a bunch of sharp-cornered boxes to wrangle exactly when she had to be careful to avoid accidentally bumping into said sharp corners, and honestly? She should've taken that into account when she booked the appointment, so oops.

The gremlins had apparently thrown their own New Year's party in here, judging from the amount of glitter and confetti that Little Bot was busy cleaning up, but since there was no damage to any of the merchandise Steph wasn't going to get on their case about it.

In Vi's opinion, what Steph should have done was call her buff and strong girlfriend who didn't need to worry about sharp edges in to move those boxes.

Not that she'd just come in and she was watching Steph judgementally or anything.

"I forgot," Steph said sheepishly as she looked up from the box she'd been trying to figure out how to pick up for about five minutes. "That I had a shipment coming in today. Mid-week holidays always throw me off."

Vi came over to wrap Steph in a careful hug. "You know I'm happy to move boxes for you even when you're not... tender."

"You're sweet, but I'm not asking you to work on your day off," Steph grumbled stubbornly, though admittedly with less conviction than usual because it was going to take her all day to unbox everything and move it one piece at a time, like she'd been planning.

"You're not asking," Vi pointed out, kissing the side of her neck. "I'm volunteering."

"Okay, but I'm not letting you do it for free," Steph replied, wrapping her arms loosely around Vi's waist.

Like she was really going to object to a chance to watch Vi's muscles at work, no matter how much (totally token) resistance she put up.

"I'm sure you'll find some way to repay me," Vi told her cheerfully. Even if the most obvious one was temporarily off limits.

"I am literally putting it on your timesheet for the week as soon as I let go of you," Steph told her, because honestly fuck wage thieves. Not that she seemed ready to let go of Vi just yet. "Also I love you, and thank you."

If Vi wanted to yell at her for not calling her to help, it would honestly be warranted.

"I wouldn't expect anything else," Vi said, kissing her behind the ear. "And you're welcome."

The yelling would come if she did it again.

Just because there was a standing offer for people to pick up as many extra hours as they wanted to it didn't mean Steph wasn't going to make that clear. She closed her eyes and grinned, leaning carefully into Vi for a moment.

"You're always taking care of me. This is the kind of shit that spoils a girl, you know?"

"Good," Vi said cheerfully. "Means my plan to ruin you for other women is working."

It was a very cunning plan, really.

Steph laughed and poked at her stomach. "Have we not established that you've done an extremely thorough job of that already? I am ruined for other women. Permanently. I hope you're proud of yourself."

It was very unfair of Steph to poke her like that when Vi was being so careful of her front. "Very," she said without an ounce of shame as she put Steph in a gentle headlock.

Steph appreciated the care! Really she did!

She couldn't even really flail without a whole lot of regret right now, could she? So she ended up just... putting a hand on Vi's arm and patting it.

"Well, I'm proud of you too. And I swear this wasn't all just an elaborate plan to sit back and enjoy the show while you work."

Point made, Vi let Steph go. "I suppose that's just a side benefit," she said with a grin.

"And a beautiful side benefit it is," Steph said shamelessly. "Since it's going to have to tide me over for a few days, might as well enjoy it."

"So you're saying that while I can't touch youcd like to watch?" Vi there was no way you could make that sound innocent.

Well, congratulations on short-circuiting your girlfriend, Vi.

Steph made a choked noise and her eyes went wide for a solid second as her mouth worked silently with no actual words coming out.

"...yes," she said finally, far more high-pitched than she'd meant to.

Vi looked extremely pleased with herself for a moment, then leaned in to steal a soft and gentle kiss, still being careful of Steph's front. "Okay then."

Steph reached up to touch her face as they kissed and smiled fondly at her when she pulled back.

"As long as I can provide running commentary."

Vi's grin was exceptionally shameless, even for her. "And I'm guessing at some point the commentary's gonna become orders?"

Steph reached for a set of percentile dice on the counter and rattled them in her hand, grinning back just as shamelessly.

"Maybe not orders so much as me setting a very vivid scene."

"And I know how much you like setting a scene," Vi said cheerfully.

"You always enjoy it when I do," Steph reminded her as she went to go... take a seat behind the counter, because swinging herself up to perch on the counter itself was going to end in tears.
