Vi was not overly impressed with the greenery that had overtaken the store today. She had things to do, and none of them were the customers or the regular game groups.

Saffron, on the other paw, was livid. How dare this impudent shrubbery attempt to steal even more of her beloved Snuggle Human's attention? How very dare? Have at you!

Undeterred by Saffron's fury, the mistletoe rustled in anticipation every time the door opened.

"I am being harassed by shrubbery," Steph grumbled, kicking at the mistletoe trailing at her heels as she came in with a very fragrant bag of curry rice. "I'm about to go out and buy a weed whacker."

"You're not the only one," Vi replied dryly as the instore mistletoe roused in a chorus of kissing noises and Saffron yowled in renewed fury.

Steph sighed. "It was trying to get me to make out with the guy working the food cart which, absolutely not for a number of reasons, and then with everyone I passed by on my way back here. I hate it, thanks."

The mistletoe following her around started trying to wrap around her ankle and tug her toward Vi, and she sighed.

"I don't want them to think I'm kissing you because they made me, but maybe it'll get them to leave you alone for a while."

"Saffron has been protecting my virtue," Vi said as, showing off just a little, she vaulted the counter to get to Steph a little more quickly.

"And this has nothing to do with the plants," she said as she went to pull Steph into a kiss.

This was not the result Saffron had intended!

Steph wrapped her free arm around Vi as she kissed her, only to let go when the mistletoe started wolf whistling so she could flip it all off.

It was like the universe was conspiring against her!

Since this had nothing to do with the mistletoe, Vi just ignored the whistling in order to thoroughly kiss Steph.

And to cope with her immensely complicated and intense feelings about her predicament, Saffron was just going to apply her claws to the nearest sprig of mistletoe. How dare it encourage her recalcitrant humans?

"Hi," Steph mumbled eventually, lingering very close to Vi's lips even after she broke off the kiss. "Think we can manage to keep this mistletoe locked out of the office long enough to have lunch in peace?"

Didn't it know that the only being in this store who deserved Snuggle Human's affections was her?

"Hey," Vi replied, voice husky. "I think if we can get through lunch, dessert will scare it off for a good long while."

It did not, and it was going to pay for its ignorance with its life. LET THIS BE A WARNING, FOOD HUMAN.

"I'd rather it not be privy to any of that," Steph grumbled as the mistletoe started clamoring for more kissing. "I do not want a parasitic plant that invested in our love life."

A warning that would go sadly ignored, but was oh so satisfying to make.

"Sorry, but I think it's already too late for that," Vi said as she started tugging Steph towards the office.

Well, at least venting her rage at being locked out of the office again on the mistletoe would give Saffron something to do in the meantime. Steph wasn't going to stop her, certainly, and Little Bot already seemed like he was poised to make sure she wouldn't try to eat any of it. (As if Saffron would. After the insult it had paid her, the mistletoe had proved it wasn't good enough to eat.)

"Yeah, I guess," Steph said, following readily along with Vi. "No one Nothing we weren't already going to do anyway, right?"

How dare the overly familiar shubbery do this to her.

Vi grinned at her. "Only thing I've been thinking about all day."

The overly familiar shrubbery was already down a couple of sprigs, but entirely undeterred from clamoring as Steph nudged the office door shut and put the bag of food on her desk.

"Don't tell me the fucking mistletoe's been trying to get you to kiss every customer that comes in," Steph said, narrowing her eyes slightly. "I'll shred it all myself."

"Wouldn't even stick to just the girls," Vi said, retrieving cutlery. "Even after I made it clear how uninterested I was.

"Ugh. Same." Steph rolled her eyes and set out the containers of curry on the desk along with the giant wad of napkins she'd tried to no avail to insist they didn't need because they already had so many stashed in her desk drawer. "I may at one point have told some of it to fuck off because I have a girlfriend I'm madly in love with and no one's getting kissed but her. Needless to say, that argument went nowhere."

"Why be patient when you can just waste time and piss everyone off," Vi said dryly, putting the forks down, and hooking her fingers in Steph's waistband.

Steph looked down at Vi's hands and smirked. "Speaking of not being patient," she teased like they both hadn't done the exact same thing on multiple occasions.

"We're gonna eat lunch," Vi protested, even as she tried to pull Steph close. "Just want to kiss you without an audience first."

"That's entirely fair," Steph conceded, and glanced around the office quickly to see if any mistletoe had snuck in. Not as far as she could see, but she could hear the sounds of Saffron tearing a sprig of it to shreds just outside the door. "In that case, allow me to grant your desire."

Letting Vi pull her close, she looped her arms around her neck and leaned in to kiss her -- gentle and sweet, and not flashy like the mistletoe would have wanted at all.

Vi smiled into the kiss, bringing her hands up to cup Steph's face, and resting her forehead against hers. "You're so good to me."

To the tune of Saffron's triumphant and yet enraged yowl, Steph leaned into Vi and kept one arm around her neck, the other dropping to wrap around her waist.

"Only returning the favor, baby. You're always good to me."

"We take care of each other," Vi said, soft and sincere. "No matter what."

"No matter what," Steph echoed, leaning in for another kiss. "And always."

Suck it, mistletoe. You were missing out on so much kissing.

If you hadn't been so pushy, you could have been creepy little voyeurs to your hearts' content.

"Yeah," Vi agreed. "Nothing's gonna change that."

Instead, you were going to end up in little pieces in a Roomba's dust bin.

Steph nipped lightly at her lip, then reluctantly started to pull back. "See, I told it I had a girlfriend I was madly in love with... and who should probably help me eat this food before it gets cold, and then we can do dessert."
