Maddie was mere days away from her eighteenth birthday, which meant she was mere days away from being able to go back to Avengers Academy without being a powerless liability, and she was more excited about it than she wanted to admit. Her last days here were being spent packing up, shipping stuff off, and donating anything she didn't want to take along to California.

Today's assignment: finish her last day of work. She had no idea how she'd managed to accumulate so much stuff in the months she'd been working here, but it seemed neverending. Or it was possible Fandom was having an off day and filling her desk drawers with endless office supplies.

With his teaching responsibilities a thing of the past and Bruce now on his final few weeks left in Fandom before he went back to Gotham City, it was time for him to refocus his efforts on the Fandom branch of the Foundation. It had done plenty of good, yes, but he needed to make sure it both had more people devoted to keeping it going - whether they were NPC quieter or PCs a little more outgoing, it didn't matter - and it had something to build on before he left. A goodbye party for himself seemed like exactly the right thing for a billionaire playboy like Bruce Wayne.

He was going to have to have his secretary research bands to play while he put the "Help Wanted" sign in the window again.

[OOC: We got out early and I'm taking advantage by actually posting Bruce's job!

Maddie was happy to be doing work today, because it meant that she wasn't in that creepy house for a while. She'd been hearing weird noises all night, which had been annoying at first and then started freaking her out when they went on too long, and that was only today's weirdness.

Maybe she could create enough busy work for herself here that she could even work some overtime?

Today there'd been a gremlin in the office. And it escaped for parts unknown.

So if you needed Maddie she'd be doing her work by sitting cross-legged on top of her desk, thank you very much.

Maddie was having one of those days where everything was going wrong. She woke up late, couldn't get one contact in so she had to wear her glasses and one eye was all red from irritation now, and she'd somehow managed two papercuts already.

And now she kept getting calls, but it was from someone who thought this line was a fax, so anytime she picked up she'd have something buzz in her ear. Who even used faxes anymore, anyway?

Now that she didn't have classes anymore, Maddie had a new day to work. She also had this super fun feeling of pressure that if she was going to work here, she should really get to doing something with the time she had left in town. So she was spending her free time trying to come up with ideas for the Foundation.

So far it wasn't going great. She might have to lower her standards a tiny lot.

"Tallest in the back, please. Just stand there for ten minutes and you'll get some porridge, you adorable little orphans," Bruce said. He even wiped a smudge off the face of one of the smaller orphans. These orphans were standing in a group three rows deep. And behind them, Bruce took a seat at his desk.

There were some people who claimed that Bruce Wayne hid his shady dealings behind his charitable works. He liked the sound of that, so he made a point to literally hide behind orphans whenever he got to work. He was just about to make a phone call to order another shipment of caffeine pills to flood Fandom with - the profit margins were higher with the pills than they were with real coffee, especially that fine Columbian bean - when he saw a chat window pop up.

service to UR supplier has been disconnected, brother. UR criminal empire is only valid while supplies last.

"Goddamn you, Batman," Bruce cursed under his breath. He had enough problems with the werewolves as it was. But now if his own twin brother was spoiling his caffeine imports? "Get out of here, you goddamned orphans! Go to the breakfast nook and get your porridge!" Bruce needed to think.

[OOC: Yep, open.]

Maddie was a little disappointed to wake up without any powers today. Okay, a lot disappointed. Even though she'd known better. She probably shouldn't have thought anything like "Maybe if I keep this I can still be an Avenger," but she did, and so today wasn't great.

Besides, scaling building walls had been way too much fun despite the cold. She'd basically been Spider-Man, okay.

She was working some. She was just moping at the same time.

With the holidays over, Maddie was back at the office and ready to get to work today.

Well. She had a very large coffee that she was trying to get through, and then she would be ready to get to work. For now she could have stuff open and look busy till her brain caught up.

The gun machines still had Maddie really wary. She'd dealt with them before, but it just seemed like an extremely bad sign in a town like this.

She had no qualms about finding money boxes, though. She'd found two on her way to work and pocketed the cash, and she was spending her shift looking through organizations dealing with gun violence while being like thirty dollars richer, because she was young enough to not realize what a hypocrite she could be.

Rilla was hand-addressing Christmas cards to all of the people who had attended Bruce's gala in Fandom in the summer. What passed for regular handwriting at home was pretty fancy script now, and Rilla was taking advantage.

When she called Albert to report on her progress, he got an earful about what she'd learned in cooking class yesterday about pairing wines with food.

Maddie was at work and very focused on checking through lists of charities today. This was mostly due to the fact that she'd burst into a chorus of 'White Christmas' upon walking in the door and figured if she kept to herself, at the very least maybe she could pretend no one would notice if she ended up singing again.

Stupid town.

It was finally Maddie's first day at work, and she was here bright and early- okay, bright and on time- to start. She figured today would be really getting to know the office and how things worked, and hoping she didn't do anything dumb enough to get her fired straight off.

Also hoping that this boss didn't turn out to be a superhero-destroying psycho. You didn't come back from working under two of those.

Rilla arrived bright and early after dropping Jims off at the daycare center, a hand crocheted bag full of pictures and knick-knacks for her desk over her arm.

She carefully placed the photograph of Walter in a place of honour, along with the snapshot Kenneth had sent in his last letter. He looked quite grown in it: it was hard to mesh that face (and his new promotion) with their night on the porch in Ingleside. She could be engaged to Ken, but being engaged to Captain Ford was quite another matter.

Decorating done, she sat down with the files Bruce had given her and a highlighter and began a list of pros and cons for each charity.

It was good to be busy.

The Wayne Foundation was open!
