Notices had gone out to all and sundry, inviting both those who still lived on the island as well as those who'd moved away to come back for a dance at the Fandom Town community center, in celebration of the 43rd (give or take a day) anniversary of the original moon landing, as well as the wonderful summer they were having.

Once people arrived, they'd find the community center's auditorium decorated according to the theme of the evening. Silver streamers hung all around, and a few papier mache moons had been fixed to the ceiling. The lights were dimmed, and there were flowers – most white, but some of them colored silver – on all the tables, bringing the faint scent of summer with them.

And naturally, there were big tables full of food, like at any large Fandom gathering. There was also a bar, though those underage would have to content themselves with sodas and virgin drinks. Maybe they could get over their sorrow over that on the dance floor, showing off their best Moonwalk.

Everything was ready for the people of Fandom to have a good time.

The glitter moosen and beavers had been moved to the park to stand friendly guard around a cluster of tents, tables and chairs. Underneath, the Homecoming events rolled on with another maple-themed buffet and plenty of space for standing around and chatting.

The sound system played kd lang and Leonard Cohen at a low volume, to gently welcome anyone who might have gotten into the punch last night after it was spiked. This event was decidedly hangover-friendly.

Harper was standing in the store window and warily looking out at the weather. She had nothing against ice cream rain, but she couldn't figure out why it came with pickles. Still, it was a good opportunity to run a special on umbrellas and all those rain ponchos she'd had trouble selling from earlier in the season.

Things Reborn was open, and all rain gear was 50%!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper was dealing through a shipment of junk today. She wasn't sure why the store was getting a large case of what appeared to be plastic bags. First, she emptied all the plastic out of the box, but there was nothing hidden at the bottom. She was about to start collecting all the plastic in a large trash bag when she accidentally discovered that there was stuff wrapped up in it. It was a good thing that she made this discovery, or she would have thrown hundreds of dollars in costume jewelry in the trash.

It did make her wonder if she'd find anything good from yesterday if she checked in the dumpster...

Things Reborn was open!

[The OCD got trashed.]
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper's quiet week was ending on a high note now that she'd managed to secure an interview for an internship with a top New York City designer. She was confident that her personal style would help her succeed. But she'd also heard that this designer would not take anyone seriously unless they had a good pair of leather shoes.

So today, Harper was frantically going through the store's shoe inventory, trying to find something that was acceptable but still worked with her wardrobe.

Things Reborn was open, and Harper would pay cash for anyone who wanted to sell leather shoes. Oh, and maybe a nice leather purse as well, since that was on Harper's shopping list.
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper figured that people had enough hats to last for a while, but there was still so much warm clothing she could sell them. She went through the backroom and pulled out all the sweaters she could find, even the ugly ones. They were still warm, and sweaters were the easiest things to re-purpose into mittens.

Things Reborn was warm, cozy and open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper was in an incredibly good mood as she went through paperwork. It helped that one of her fashion idols, Victoria Beckham, had picked such a perfect name for her new daughter.

Things Reborn was open, and Harper was ready to make some deals for customers.
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper brought out all the clothes from the stockroom, even the leftover rain ponchos from a few weeks back. New arrivals in Fandom increased the chances of people arriving unprepared, and they would need to buy clothes! Even an emergency rain poncho was better than no clothes at all, right?

Things Reborn was open, and there was a 25% off discount for new people!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper wasn't entirely sure why a large shipment of maple leaf-themed items came in today. There were t-shirts, ball caps, flags and even a few maple leaf fascinators. She put them out on display with heavily discounted prices. Maybe someone out there would be interested in fall fashions a bit early.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
There were so many interesting pieces that arrived today. Harper decided that they deserved a place of honor in the window display with some fake greenery to accent them. She wasn't sure exactly how the pottery was supposed to be used, but she had faith in the creativity of her customers.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper had acquired a limited number of cow print vests to go with the cowboy hays and cowboy boots that were in stock. She put them on the mannequins in the window display, hoping to attract some of the cowboys who might be visiting the island. Or maybe she'd get some wannabe cowboys who lived on the island. Either way, she figured they would sell faster than the leftover rain ponchos.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
It wasn't raining, which could be a problem for Harper. She still had tons of rain ponchos left over. Even with cutting the price down to $1 apiece, they were not moving.

Most people would have given up and shoved the cases of ponchos into the stock room for a rainy day. Not Harper. She thought she could make the ponchos a bit more fashionable with some paint and accessories. Who could resist a poncho with painted flowers and sequins? Better question... who else other than Harper would buy an embellished rain poncho?

Things Reborn was open, and there were plenty of other deals on good merchandise in the store.

Things Reborn, [6/3]

Harper was painting a big yellow sun and blue sky with puffy white clouds in the display window. If she couldn't escape the rain outdoors, she'd try to bring sunshine indoors.

And mindful of the fact that no one could avoid the rain, she had a special on rain ponchos for $5 each. Of course, the ponchos had logos for some comic book convention that was held in Phoenix, Arizona. Also, they had the date of the convention printed on them, which happened to be two years ago. She'd gotten an awesome deal on them. The manufacturer practically gave her several cases of these ponchos for free! She was going to make a killing on these if she could sell all of them.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
It was obvious to Harper why the case of plain white t-shirts hadn't sold. They were so boring and bland! Fortunately, she knew she could fix that. All she needed was a can of paint and some feathers.

Things Reborn was open! Beware the clothing selection if you aren't into paint splatters and feather motifs.
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper worked up a sweat as she packed up all the warm clothes to put into storage. Maybe she'd have a better chance of selling it later on, but for now, she didn't think many customers would see a need for vintage fur coats while they were in Egypt. At least she could put out more of the vintage swimsuits.
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
The invoice attached to the shipping crate claimed that the contents included 24 heart necklaces. They sounded totally innocent, so Harper was startled to find that they were <ahref="http://www.etsy.com/listing/66423347/heart-in-a-jar-necklace?ref=fp_treasury_2">anatomically-correct hearts in little jars. "That's kind of sweet, I think," said Harper, though she couldn't help frowning as she held up one of the necklaces.

Things Reborn was open. Anything resembling human organs was 25% off today.
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper had slacked off a bit at work towards the end of the semester, but now that classes were over, she was ready to throw herself back into her job. She had all these great ideas, and the first one was being implemented right now.

In the window, she'd put up a brand-new sign:

Can't take it with you? Get cash for it here!

Things Reborn was open, and Harper was ready to collect all the used stuff that people were leaving behind.

Although the weekend was almost over, the esteemed alumni of Fandom High were not getting away without one last get-together. The park had been deemed too cold for the event, so the community center had been set up again with tasteful blue and yellow streamers and real flowers on the tables, although there might have been a few paper flowers still lying around from last night too.

There was plenty of food just waiting to be eaten, and if someone asked nicely, they might be able to acquire a drink or two as well. It was five o'clock somewhere.

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

Welcome to your April Fools' Dance, children, adults, and alumni.

Harper rolled her eyes when she opened the crate with the vintage bags. She didn't think there would be any demand for something with the logo of an airline that was no longer operating.

She was wrong. The first customer to spot the bag eagerly handed cash and didn't even wait for her change. The second customer was so excited to find one that she jumped up and down for joy and even hugged Harper before leaving with her bag. Then a third customer called the store and offered $50 over the sticker price for Harper to hold a bag until she got there.

"Maybe simple is better under certain circumstances," said Harper, taking a close look at the last remaining bag.
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper was pleased to see another crate of "new" merchandise waiting to be unpacked. She loved unpacking new arrivals since it was like opening presents. Today's shipment did not disappoint. The crate was full of lava lamps. Harper lined them all up on the counter, then surveyed the rest of the store, trying to figure out the best way to display all of the lamps. Yes, she was putting all of them out at once because it just looked so cool.

Things Reborn was open and feeling groovy.

Alex decided to take Melanie to work with her and then to class later in the day because she thought it might be fun.

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, she'd cast a spell to create a theme in the store. Paper hearts floated throughout the store (she'd avoided anything relating to those baby cupids, just to be safe) and heart-shaped bubbles floating around. Some were low enough that Melanie could chase them.

That may have had Alex giggling a little.

She had some coloring books and crayons in a corner, should any other kids happen on by the store and need some form of entertainment.

The Magic Box is open.

[OCD free.]
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper was a static-charged mess today. She kept getting little zaps of static electricity every time she touched anything in the store, but especially when she was working on the new window display. Her hair was standing on end by the time she was done dressing all of the mannequins in their cute little sweaters.

"You know, it's a really good thing your hair is plastic. It doesn't need to be combed or brushed or loaded down with tons of hair spray to look good," she commented to the last mannequin as she struggled to put its arms in place.

[Open! The OCD has been zapped out of existence.]
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Yes, folks, it was possible to shock Harper with exceptionally bad fashion sense, and today was one of those moments. She could understand why someone would be desperate enough to try and unload a turkey costume, but she wasn't sure if it was something that the store could re-sell. Harper put the turkey costume on one of the spare mannequins to see if there was anything she could do to make the costume a little less fowl, but it was a tough task. No one was going to want a turkey costume in January.
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper was used to working with second-hand stuff, but everything in the store seemed a lot older-looking than usual. She got to work separating out stuff she could fix and stuff that did not appear salvageable. Certainly a few of the furniture pieces could use a new coat of paint and there was clothing that could use some repairs and alterations.

Unfortunately, some of her more creative alterations may include cutting the sleeves off a sweatshirt and replacing them with ones from another piece of clothing that really did not match.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper was keeping busy in between helping customers. She really loved the new Snuggie that she'd found this morning, but thought it could use just a little more sparkle for the holidays. After all, wasn't that what her Bedazzler was for?

She was also happy to add rhinestones to any purchases today, free of charge. Just be glad that she hadn't gotten into the glitter.

Things Reborn was open!

[The OCD was blinded by the all the fake bling.]
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Physically, Harper was at work, sitting behind the register. Mentally, though, she was somewhere else. The folks next door at Everything But The Monkey were probably relieved that she wasn't putting together another bizarre window display.

Things Reborn was open!

[And OCD-free!]
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper loved ripping into new shipments of vintage merchandise. But today, the contents of the shipping cases were not what she wanted to see. Each of the five cases that arrived contained fuzzy Santas.

She didn't bother unpacking them. Instead, Harper taped the boxes back up and shoved them to the back of the stockroom. They could wait until after Thanksgiving.

Things Reborn was open, and there were no Christmas decorations to be seen -- yet.
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
It was starting to feel like sweater weather, so Harper went through the entire stock of vintage sweaters. She used the best-looking ones to dress the mannequins in the store window. The so-so ones were neatly folded and put out on a display table with a sale sign. And the worst-looking ones? Harper was unraveling them to use the yarn for something else. It was a good thing she brought her knitting needles.

Things Reborn was open!

[The OCD has been unraveled and will not be making an appearance.]
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper was in an upbeat mood. It was going to be fun meeting everyone's parents this weekend, but it was going to be even better because her parents were not showing up. That would have been really embarrassing since her parents were so weird.

Don't tell her that the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
There was a large crate that arrived at the store today, and when Harper opened it, she found a treasure trove of old plates. They looked a little dull and boring, though, so she figured a nice paint job would really help them sell.

That is, if there was anyone out there that wanted some really purple plates.

There was a sign posted at the front door:

G.O.B. Bluth Presents:
The Ninth Annual
Three Minute Dates @ Caritas

hosted by A Matchmaker Named G.O.B.

GOB had somehow been able to count to nine despite not being around for the previous six Three Minute Dates, but he still didn't know what 'annual' really meant. But that wasn't important. The important thing was that at 6:00 precisely, the ligts went out and the Zombie Band started playing a familiar intro.

A burst of smoke hit the stage and the matchmaker named GOB stepped through it to make his grand entrance. A flick of each wrist and he was holding a deck of cards in each hand: all hearts. Except for a single four of clubs. GOB started moonwalking backwards, except he wasn't very good at it so it was more like walking backward with a limp. He clapped his hands together and from the cards fell burst forth a dead live dove, which GOB picked up and threw off the stage toward the bar swooped over the audience and hit Tino after bouncing off the bar attacked Tino.

"WELCOME TO CARITAS!" GOB yelled to the crowd as the music continued. "WELCOME! TO THREE MINUTE DATES!" He turned around and pointed to the back of the stage where a too-large banner dropped, showing the top half of 'THREE MINUTE DATES' while the rest was still rolled up on the stage floor. "I am GOB, your Once and Future Matchmaker. Here are the rules: I call your name and the name of somebody else. You two get together and make goo goo eyes at each other for a few minutes, and then I make a fireball appear to let you know it's time for the next round."

Tino had checked the fireball launcher GOB kept in his sleeve. Twice. It was as safe as it could possibly be.

"After the roaring sound of magical fire, I'll call out some more names and we do it again until we've done it five times. And if you don't like any of your dates, let me know and we can do it five more times in my hotel room." GOB could be as subtle as a bar on fire, something which Tino really wanted to avoid. Now let's get on with this stuff." As GOB started to reach for his notecards with the round one pairings, a quick burst of flame shot across his chest. "Huh. Shot off a little early. But I won't, ladies." Very subtle.

Remember, attacks on your dates will get you teleported elsewhere on the island.

Also remember that most playing should happen on Saturday, but if you need to finish a thread or two on Sunday, that's fine.

Hard to believe only nine minutes had passed since this all started, huh? The daters were still dating, hopefully no one had been transported outside due to trying to attack anyone they had to deal with for three minutes, and all they had to do was survive two more rounds before they could hit the bar.

Happy dating!

Harper was feeling inspired today. She'd found an old, worn-looking dresser at the back of the store that wasn't attracting much attention from buyers. She also found a bunch of vintage drawer pulls in a box of random odds and ends. Add some salvaged wood from old shipping pallets, and Harper transformed the dresser into... a robotic-looking chest of drawers. Harper thought it looked pretty cool, though if she had extra time, she would add a coat of bright pink paint to make it a bit more eye-catching.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper loved recycling, but sometimes her creative uses of used stuff took things just a little too far. Today might be an example of that. She was busy trying to dress a mannequin using a dress made from a shopping bag. It might be tasteless, but at least it was waterproof.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper knew that the end of summer was right around the corner, and that would mean people leaving. But instead of getting bummed out, she had figured out way to help. It took her about 5 minutes to make a new display sign for the window.

Got stuff you can't take with you? Leave it here and we'll sell it for you!
[identity profile] auntie-vida.livejournal.com
Vida had been busy since early that morning, setting up the park to be perfect for the Strawberry Social. Fortunately, the park was bug free, but she had music playing to drown the sounds of Celine Dion from nearby residences. Said music tended toward the pop side, bouncy and happy, with a side of disco. Drake had nothing to do with that, really.

Several picnic tables were laid end to end, covered with red table cloths and adorned with flower arrangements. There were plenty of plates to load up with food, which was available in plenty, including just about every strawberry dish imaginable. Vida had gone overboard, yes. She'd also provided red flowers to tuck in the hair and red scarves for those who might be feeling red-deficient.

Ignore any threat of rain, the weather was gorgeous. Because Vida demanded it.

[Wait for OCD, please is up! Open to all!]
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper wasn't sure what to expect when she got to the store. She was thrilled to see that there was no sign of damage from last weekend. Granted, there was an awful lot of broken merchandise in the back room, but that was fairly common for new arrivals at a used merchandise store.

That left Harper with two options: try to fix broken stuff, or mark it down and hope someone else would buy it and fix it.

Things Reborn was open, and all prices were negotiable.

[The OCD is not here because it is missing a few pieces.]
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
The bright pink bookcase that Harper had been working on last week was finished and now had a prominent place in the front window display. If potential customers were not blinded, they might see the sign proclaiming that all used furniture was 75% off. At that price, someone could put up with bright pink.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Something was bothering Harper as she looked around the store. It took her a little while to realize that none of the inventory had really changed lately and some of the merchandise was starting to look a little dated. And considering it was all used merchandise, it was already a little dated.

"Oh well. Everything looks better with a new coat of paint!" she decided. The first item to fall victim to her taste in re-decoration was an old bookshelf. Harper thought it needed a really bold color.

Things Reborn was open! Be afraid.

[OCD-free and late because I was painting all day.]
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper didn't have any visitors with her, but that was okay because she didn't know any dead people. At least, she didn't know if anyone she loved was dead. Sometimes her mom and dad were a little slow to inform her of these things.

So the fact that no one had shown up for her was good news. She celebrated this by stopping at the Perk for an iced mocha before heading to the store. She might as well keep cool as she tried to sort out the new inventory of used merchandise.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper was feeling rather divided as she got to work today. There was the little voice over her right shoulder telling her that she should be there, but there was another little voice on her left shoulder telling her she should ditch work and go to the beach.

She was trying really hard to find a compromise between the two. The compromise involved setting up a fake beach in the window with some sand and an old lounge chair for her.

Things Reborn was open, and Harper will probably get up and help any customers who come in.
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper was working on creating her latest vision for the the store's big window display. She had a single mannequin wearing a dress made from re-purposed materials. She'd made the dress, of course, from old clothing that was not selling.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] stylin-wizard.livejournal.com
Alex opened up the shop and decided the scenery needed changing. Perhaps a tropical beach setting? If nothing else, maybe the scent of the ocean in the store would be enough.

She'd turn things back to normal at the end of her shift.

The Magic Box is open.

[OCD free!]
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper wasn't sure why there were tubs of hot, soapy water in the store today. It would have been convenient for taking care of her laundry, except her dirty clothes had all walked away on their own this morning. (If you were some of Harper's designs, you would walk away too as soon as you were able.)

But Things Reborn was open for purchases as well as the ability to clean your clothes.
[identity profile] samnotmax.livejournal.com
"I don't know, little buddy," Sam frowned as he drew his gun. "This town looks pleasant enough, but when the sun goes down, the seedy underbelly comes out to cause mayhem."

"Oooh! I like seedy underbellies," Max said. "Poppy seeds?"

"Occasionally watermelons," Sam said. "You get past that husk, and there are seeds everywhere."

"I don't think it matters what kind of underbellies they are," Max mused. "So long as they're ours."

"Want to fine some unsuspecting citizens?" Sam asked.

"Don't I always?"

(OOC: Co-written with [livejournal.com profile] maxnotsam, natch. Sam and Max would like to arrest you on completely trumped-up charges, or fine you for horrendous ones they just made up. Don't worry, they never really manage to arrest people, generally because the citizens go "No, I'm not under arrest. This is stupid." Who wants to be crazied at?)
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper was on the phone as she counted the cash in the register. Her mother had finally called her and Harper wasn't about to tell her to call back, even if she did need to open the store. Besides, she found she could say "yeah" and "uh-huh" while working as her mother went on and on about why she decided to move out of their house in New York to start over again in a new city. Somehow, her mother neglected to mention where this new city was before her cell phone cut out.

With that out of the way, Harper flipped the "Open" sign and wondered here she was going to go for holidays and stuff now that her parents were no longer in New York.

Things Reborn was open!
[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com
Harper wasn't expecting any new shipments of old merchandise, so she was really surprised to find a large trunk when she got to the store. It was marked "NOBODY TELLS ME ANYTHING." She was almost certain that it wasn't meant for her, but there was that nagging voice in the back of her mind that told her otherwise. But trying to figure out who hadn't been telling her anything was going to be tough. Not only did something weird happen with Alex the other day, but she'd also gotten a strange postcard from her dad. He said he was all set up in his new home, but he hadn't actually told Harper that he was moving.

So instead of opening the trunk, Harper shoved it behind the register and and sat on it. She would worry about it after calling her mom... once she eventually got through. For some reason, she kept getting a recording that her mom's phone number was disconnected.

Things Reborn was open, but please excuse Harper if she's a little busy flailing.
[identity profile] suit-of-sables.livejournal.com
Geoffrey was starting to wonder if he shouldn't have just tried to cobble together a bunch of his old scripts to do something a bit more in his usual style... but at least people were coming. At least no one was trying to kill him over what'd happened the other, er, month.

But there was the music to worry about. He'd need to either see about a soundtrack tape or find people who'd be willing to play the music for the songs. Or maybe...

Hmmm.
