Bucky hadn't been on the school trip, obviously, but he was still one of the recently returned. From Wakanda, in his case. Another round of meditation, deprogramming, Ayo being grumpy with him, and Shuri tsking over the metal in his shoulder.

Once again, coming to Fandom felt like a break.

There was still novelty in that.

Anyway, it meant that on Tuesday, he finally made it back to the movie theater again. He was overseeing the concessions stand, which mostly just meant nudging things around occasionally while eating popcorn. He'd taken a tub out to the kid manning the box office, too.

It was not working as well as he thought it was, but whatever. He was present! Physically speaking, and that had to be good enough.

They might not have been billionairs, but a succesful popstar and a world leader could drum up quite an impressive budget together. The community center itself was transformed, to such an extent you wouldn't recognize it when you entered.

Unlike the white wedding, the colors were pleasantly dark, soft blacks and dark blues dominating the floor, the ceiling, the walls. The lighting implied the ambiance of a sort of upper class rave, with pops of color penetrating the darkness, and tasteful flowering plants lining the walls.

There was a dusting of glitter, a gentle mix of red and white, that blew across the floors and reflected the light at strange angles. The food served at the tables in the far corner - tastefully separated from the rest of the room with dividers that mimicked some of Van Gogh's darker flower paintings - was the work of the Hegemony's own kitchen; fancy finger foods fit for world leaders.

There was a dance floor. There was an expensive DJ, flown in from Milan. Envy's wasn't the only music being played, but it was in heavy rotation.

Come Friday evening, there was practically a festival area in the park. On one side stood a line of various food trucks, serving moddable food and beverages, courtesy of Envy and Peter's wedding budget. On the other, there was a merch booth for anything and everything Envy you might want - at least in terms of apparel or physical records. There was also a little cordoned off media area to one side of the stage, holding members of the music press from around the multiverse, ready to live-tweet the show back into their worlds.

And then, of course, there was the stage, looming over everything, just a little bigger than what a show in a small town park strictly speaking needed. The back of the stage was already lit up with giant block letters of made up of a gazillion light bulbs, spelling out ENVY. Just in case anyone forgot who tonight was really all about. (Or needed a reminder about who to Google.)

The paint rain across the island was still going, so hope everyone was either cool with continuing to be dyed various colors, or had brought an umbrella or perhaps a big newspaper to shield themselves with. Either way, the hope was everyone enjoyed themselves.

The ballroom was positively sparkling with glitter and the light off of the brand new chandelier for the occasion. (Which should really come as a surprise to no one considering how many chandeliers they'd cycled on through for previous events.)

In preparation to the many amateur skaters they were anticipating, the half-sized walls around the skating rink--now located below the chandelier and taking up three quarters of the normal ballroom space--were well-padded.

There were drinks and appetizers and plenty of good music ready for people to come in and have a fun evening out if they were so inclined! Time to roller disco!

So this morning, Uly's head hurt. His eyes hurt. His... just sort of everything hurt. But he weirdly felt better about it than usual? Probably because usually he felt this shitty after a night out on his own, and at least this time he'd been spending time with his best friend instead of semi-desperately cruising for a semi-decent hook-up.

Didn't mean there wasn't currently a smudged phone number scrawled on the back of his hand, of course. He was only human. And Ulysses was sitting in the box office in a red shirt (because Ingrid had forced him to), thinking about how he was feeling particularly jaded about this time of year this year. While also intermittently getting distracted into -- smelling his hair?

Yeah, that was a thing. Look, the stuff for his face that he'd gotten on Margo's recommendation had worked out well, so he'd kinda been in the mood to buy more fancy-ish products, but he hadn't wanted to go back to Pick Your Poison because, well, Margo, so he'd gone to a place on the mainland and, to cut a long story short, now the ends of his curls had a sweet coconut-y scent to them. And sometimes, that worried Summer, making her think that something was really wrong, underneath the surface, but you know what? This year, she was just going to resolve to appreciate these kinds of days for what they were and embrace them with a sort of zen appreciation, that--

"Oh GOD!"

Her thoughts had spoken too soon, as she turned around to find Tino there, pulling up his shirt to show her a wound on his torso with an insane amount of pride over the color that it was that it definitely should not be.

Duke had already had to maneuver around the giant jelly donut taking up way too much of the Rouge this morning. He'd escaped to work -- only to find another one taking up way too much of his dining room.

And his staff were all wearing berets for some reason.

"Might as well lean into it, right?" Greg said.

"Lean into what? And that's a terrible accent, what's it even supposed to be?"

"Ve are Franch! today!" Timmy crowed, flinging himself onto the donut. A cloud of powdered sugar took off into the air. "Ve vill seet around and drink coffees and talk pheelosopheee!"

He hadn't been listening to the radio, and he hadn't needed a grocery run since early in the week, and honestly the delivery guys on this rock said the weirdest shit sometimes on the most ordinary of days, so, who could blame him for having missed everything happening so far?

... It was fine if you blamed him. He probably deserved it. Although he was blaming his noise-canceling AirPods for this next part.

See, he'd come out to the park for a smoke break (an outdoor one still counted as a break from, like, something, okay?), listening to his tunes, and he'd decided to sit on one of the benches to really make the most of failing to appreciate the fresh air out here. So how was he supposed to have realized there was some kind of a huge fucking panther-looking thing coming up from behind the bench before he was already being viciously attacked?

Anyway, that was no longer Uly's problem, seeing as there was now a very tall, very pissed man-sized lizard creature in his place. And the lizard just wanted food.

Anyway, Ingrid was somewhere in the bowels of the projection booth trying to fix the issue with the auditorium, while Ulysses was out in the box office --

Kind of just uselessly poking at the computer? He had zero IT skills. He was pretty sure Ingrid knew this, and it wasn't exactly making him feel any extra motivation to learn anything right now. Just look at the half-hearted, hand-written sign he had perched on the box office counter:

Look, it didn't matter how cool you and your roommate had decided to be about giving in and hooking up because of some kind of aphrodisiac pollen -- Nancy kind of had to come up for air eventually. And apparently 'air' meant coffee today, since she'd slipped out with her diary and a ton of good intent as far as going to the Perk, writing out her feelings about the last couple of days, and figuring out how badly she'd screwed up.

(She did not really feel like she'd screwed much up that wasn't already pretty broken before she'd even gotten here, but that was where she figured writing out her feelings might help her.)

But, good intentions or no, Nancy was not ready for how cute the barista was. Or how the frappuccino she'd ordered -- because it was still the only modern coffee drink Nancy knew -- involved whipped cream, and how that kind of just made her think, a little (and that made her feel a little like a pervert, honestly.) And let's face it, the 'showing up' part was more difficult for him than whatever day it was.

Surely you haven't had enough time with your visitors. Even if you have, you don't want to send them on their way without breakfast, right? Coffee makes everything better, even familial awkwardness.
