Since Danny was just, you know, gonna politely ignore his purchase from yesterday until he figured out a way to spring it on Steve, he was checking in on the apartment building.

Mostly the fire alarm system that looked remarkably normal for all the bullshit it put them through.

He still didn't trust it.

"Better not happen again once it gets cold," he grumbled.

[open,of course!]
hatesparadise: (the stress migraine you give me)
[personal profile] hatesparadise
This might have happened last year as well, but there was really no preparation for piercing alarms going off before the sun was even up.

At least it wasn't cold out. That was possibly the only thing that kept this from being the worse thing ever. That one thing there.

Because everything else sucked.

[no ocd, just go ham!]

Well, Danny had already sort of planned on doing a little bit of grilling (read that as having Steve grill) for Memorial Day, but once he stepped outside to check on things, it looked like he'd been visited by the party fairies.

Which might even be a real thing here.

He wasn't gonna ask.

But either way, there was an ungodly amount of moddable food, drinks and the sort of decorations that made him mostly just roll his eyes. He made sure to put a sign in the lobby to let people know to get something to eat and maybe let anyone else know that they should swing by too.

There was that much food.

[open party is open!]

Danny wasn't avoiding Steve after the whole Halloween fiasco, he was just not fighting Steve avoiding him. Which was basically the same thing in their friendship, but whatever.

So, he was just gonna spend some time dealing with the weird paperwork that came from this apartment building.

"How many weird errors am I gonna get in that room?" he muttered to himself, looking at the newest one: ERR Christmas Too Early.

[expecting one, but open!]
hatesparadise: (just bros being bros)
[personal profile] hatesparadise
The weekend ended much too quickly by Danny's estimation. It almost reminded him of when his custody was limited to those too short, too infrequent days when he'd first arrived in Hawaii.

Which meant the best way to not focus too hard on that was to do some work.

"I don't even know what that means," he grumbled, looking at the little AC control looking device outside that one weird room. It was the holosuite, but he was trying to maintain his sanity by not acknowledging that.

The phrase 'beanbag chair error' flashed on the little screen some more.

[open!]
hatesparadise: (sleeping in)
[personal profile] hatesparadise
It had been a normal, peaceful morning that was so early it was practically the night before still. If one wanted to be specific. Or if they were still constrained by the tyrant of time.

Then a piercing noise sounded throughout the building as a fire alarm went off.

Because why get a good night's sleep when you could be dragged out of bed to wait on the tiny, under-worked Fandom Fire Department to come make sure everything was fine?

[Open! Make those threads messy!]
hatesparadise: (waiting for you to say something stupid)
[personal profile] hatesparadise
Running an apartment building was both more and less work than Danny had expected. It mostly seemed to take care of itself, but then weird things would just pop up on him.

Like the washing machine thing a few weeks back. Or the rotting turnips he found in what was apparently some kind of rec room holo suite for the building.

So, half the day was being spent on that particular crisis.

[open! Come get a place to live!]

Rey understood the concept of a kiddie pool, but she didn't know why she found one in her apartment.

Then there was the slow, very careful process of dragging it out through the hall and trying so hard not to spill anything on the way. She mostly managed! But really, what was she going do with it in her place? It wasn't even like she could empty it in there.

So, uh, there was going to be a kiddie pool outside the apartments, because she had no way of knowing that everyone got one.

[Open!]

So, okay. Living at the hotel wasn't feasible if this thing went on longer than it already had. Duke might gave had the right of that.

Which was why Danny was trying one of the apartment buildings on island to see if they did short term rentals. Or that had been the plan before finding only a thin layer of dust at the front desk.

Creepy.

And when he got into the office, he was hit with a weird boobie trap that was just a note and some confetti that just read:

Congrats, you now own an apartment complex! And by 'congrats' I mean 'no take backs, sucker'

This was all Crocker's fault somehow.

Rey had gone off with Summer to Coruscant to help her get set up there... and got back just in time for Jello to fall from the sky. Which was sort of weirdly perfect and also annoying, so she'd sent a text and gone home.

And now she was downstairs in the laundry room with wet hair after a shower and different clothes, shoving the clothes she had been wearing in a machine. If anyone else wanted to get in on this otherwise very small load, now was the time.

Sometimes, Karolina was struck with the urge to gaze up at the sky. Tonight was one of those times, and what better or easier way to do so than to wrap up in a coat and make the trek up to the patio on the roof the MCA?

It was a little cloudy, which was a little disappointing, but it didn't matter too much. She didn't need to see the stars to know they were there. Even without the cover of clouds, she couldn't have seen some of the ones she was thinking of, anyway. Nope, those were almost a literal world away.

Karolina sighed, and half-smiled to herself, and wrapped the coat a little tighter around herself. She thought she might stay up here a while. Get some fresh air.

Think.

Fjord's phone had buzzed. After some fumbling, Fenris managed to get it to show him why. Then he frowned and with painful slowness, read the message.

"We have an appointment to look over apartments?" he asked the snake. Who, predictably, didn't answer. The appointment was for both of them. They'd both mentioned continued cohabitation but Fenris found himself oddly touched that he'd been included in actual plans.

Nothing for it but to go. He recognized the address - Peter had left his address at the store in case Fenris needed to contact him. The weather was nice but a little brisk, so he bundled up like it was the middle of winter. T-shirt, very baggy hoodie, winter jacket. Only then did he pick up Fjord and let him slither into the jacket, around his shoulders. On top of the snake, Fenris looped a scarf.

Look, he wasn't taking chances.

Then he walked rather quickly to the apartments with the swanky-sounding name. They were met by an overly cheerful apartment agent. "Hi," she chirped, "Are you Fjord??" Fenris shook his head, "Fenris. Fjord's roommate. He's been .. called away unexpectedly." "Ooo-oh," she said, smiling brightly, "So are we looking for two bedrooms or one?" "... Two," Fenris answered, "We'd definitely each like our own room." He considered a moment and asked, "What's the pet policy?" She rambled off something about it. Fjord chose that moment to stick his head out from under the scarf to peer about. "OhmygodyouhaveaSNAKE!" she squealed, leaning in closer, "It's so PRETTY!"

Fjord looked smug. "He," Fenris corrected, "Definitely a male. Be careful, he bites." Fjord turned to stare at him. Excuse you, he hadn't bitten anyone! Fenris booped him. Fjord hissed and reconsidered that whole biting thing for a moment before retreating back under the scarf in a sulk. Boops indeed.

The apartment agent lead off at a merry clip to show them the available apartments, prattling on about the amenities and using words like 'holosuite' and 'on-roof parking and garage'.

"Hear that, Fjord?" Fenris muttered sotto-voice to him, "You could put a ship on the roof. Why you'd do that, I've no idea, but you could, so that's a.. definitely a thing you could do." Fjord slithered out of the scarf long enough to turn the tables - and his snakey body - to boop Fenris on his nose. Ships don't go on roofs! The boop startled a small laugh from the elf.

[Open for your baffled elf and/or snake interactions.]

Kanan had a shift he needed to be getting to at the diner, and whether he would or not depended mostly on how this conversation went. But the fact remained that this was a conversation that needed to happen, and time for them to have it was growing short. Kanan had brought Stance up to the roof early enough to watch an Earth sunrise, and they'd both taken a seat up on the hull of the Escape to do so.

"You're gonna like this," Kanan offered. "Earth's pretty backwards in a lot of ways, but at least it goes all-out making its mornings nice to watch."

He needed to leave.

That was the compulsion that had been thrumming through him ever since he answered to a name, back when words like 'Kanan' and 'Caleb' had still meant something to him. And that compulsion had remained, even while all of his other memories had faded. He had fought it. He'd fought it hard, let himself be guided by the Force and it had helped him to hold on to who he was for as long as he could.

But not even Kanan's connection with the Force had been able to save him, and as Kanan slipped away, something else formed in his stead. Blind, though he could see. Quiet, though he was desperate. Peace, yet...

He walked in almost drifting, wraith-like movements around the place where his ship stood, the Expedient having been replaced with the Escape long ago, and the Escape having seen better days. A once black lustre had been beaten away to the silver-grey that lurked under the paint, and one wing had been removed entirely, lightsaber scars still visible where it sat severed, on the apartment roof.

He had to get away, but no ship could take him from this place.

The chances of Atton achieving anything remotely resembling a good mood were pretty much zero at the moment. Below zero, in fact.

So when he stepped outside the MCA that morning and watched a bunch of zombie gremlins shambling towards him, he just sighed. "I don't want to deal with this today," he said.

The zombies didn't seem terribly impressed by that, so he lit his lightsaber with a snap-hiss. "No, seriously," he said. "I really, really, really don't want to deal with this today--"

Derek's office at MCA was the new location of his illicit wedding magazines. For a wedding that wouldn't happen for three more years time, but still. It paid to plan ahead.

Also, he was narrowing down his venue search for a smaller group.

That translated into making faces at the pictures on various websites for places in California. Because he was super mature.

'Furnished apartment,' McIntosh and Nelson had said. 'Lease is already arranged,' they'd said. 'You just have to pick up the key,' they'd said. Brian had just assumed the apartment would suck. All of that might be true, but the contact info they'd given him (for a guy named Coulson, though the lease had someone else's signature on it) had gotten Brian a 'New phone, who dis?' and ringing the bell in the lobby and even banging on the door to the manager's apartment had gotten him exactly nowhere.

And while Brian had some money tucked back, he hadn't brought any of it to the island with him, not with the FBI watching him so closely, and with his apartment already arranged they probably wouldn't be amused if he expensed a hotel. So he'd spent his first night here in his car.

Faced with the prospect of doing the same tonight, he'd decided to take matters into his own hands. Juvenile delinquency and his adult profession (okay, and also delinquency) gave one certain skills, after all. Which was to say, anyone who happened to find themselves on the second floor of MCA right about now would find Brian attempting to pick the lock of what was allegedly already his own apartment.

"Sometimes," he muttered to himself as the stupid lock failed to cooperate, "I really wish I'd gotten in that car with Dom."

If anything had happened last weekend, well, Atton hadn't noticed for reasons that were becoming depressingly applicable to just about anything for him lately. It was a pity, because a weekend off from all his troubles would've been extremely welcome.

Anyway, Atton had to leave his apartment again sometime - this time because he'd been putting off giving the Hawk another look-over for a while now. Sure, the guy he'd gotten the ship from seemed to have gotten it cleaned up real nice, but that didn't really mean anything. He was pretty sure that at this point nobody knew the Ebon Hawk like he did, and anyway-- there were stupid sentimental reasons involved.

So there he was. After checking up on the inside of the ship, he'd relocated to the outside. What looked broken was getting fixed, welded back on or taped up. What looked dirty was getting a good run-over with a rag or a lick of paint. By the time the day was done, the Ebon Hawk would look more or less factory-perfect again-- at least as far as Atton was concerned.

Let's be real here, Derek had been hiding for about a week. But this time he wasn't hiding in the woods! Which was... progress for him.

While Zayne was upstairs in his apartment, GG-85 was hard at work filing paperwork and... Doing whatever else needed doing in an apartment office the day after rent was due. Probably more paperwork.

While GG-85 was distracted, a gremlin snuck into the office, saw an oil canister that GG intended to use for its joints later on, and took a sip, expecting it to be coffee. The gremlin reacted the way you might expect, spitting the oil back into the canister and walking away.

Minutes later, its paperwork done, GG-85 picked up the gremlin-tainted oil and began to work its aching joints.

Oh what hilarity might unfurl shortly once the gremlin spit started to take dubious effect on the droid's programming?

Since Zayne wasn't planning on staying in town long-term and had no expectations of getting a new manager for the building in a couple days, he had a new GG-series droid delivered. Coulson didn't actually have much to pack. That was a result of both living a simple life and the way he came to the island pretty suddenly. So here he was, one last evening in the lobby of MCA before heading back to New York, with a duffel on the office desk next to him.

All in all, it had been a reasonably good year break for him. But he was excited to move on to the next stage.

After being here at MCA for a little bit, Coulson had the lay of the land. And that meant now he had to figure out where to hide what weapons in case of invasion while he was in the office. Obviously, the pulse rifle was locked up in the office with a fingerprint lock. But a trusty garotte could be hidden in a potted plant. Brass knuckles under a couch. A taser hidden in a lamp in the office.

So if anyone passed by and noticed Coulson looking at all of the fixtures and furnishings nonchalantly, that was just his way of not letting them know that he was prepared for bad things to happen at any given moment. Because that might be weird to find out about the building manager. Especially one who was always wearing a suit.

Well, Zayne had to be going soon. The Republic Navy was calling him back in and he couldn't exactly say no, not while he had an opportunity to change warfare in the minds of some people. But he still had a few days left before he had to go. Hopefully that would give him enough time to find someone to manage the building in his absence. Goodvalor's would be fine. The droids could handle that.

But for MCA, he had to put a sign up in the window: "MANAGER WANTED: INQUIRE WITHIN."

And then he settled in by the office and waited to see what would happen.

He went through every key he could find. Again. He tried picking the lock. Again. He tried breaking the door down. Again. He tried lightsabering it. Again! And once again, nothing worked. Just like always.

"Someday," Zayne said, shaking his head at it as he gave up for the hundredth and something time since he bought the building. Since he wasn't going to be able to solve the great mystery tonight, he was going to just go into his office off the lobby, do some paperwork, and passive-aggressively ignore the door.

Zayne didn't usually spend weekdays over at the MCA office, but he received an alert that the office safe had been broken into. When he got into the office, he didn't see any signs of a break in until he opened the safe up to find a gremlin taking a nap.

He had no idea how the gremlin got in there or why it wanted to take a nap there (or why it looked kind of cute when it snored), but he took the time to levitate the gremlin out gently and move it out back to the alley.

Dances weren't really Zayne's forte when it came to social gatherings, no. That's why he didn't chaperone last night. He figured that if nobody was around, then he wasn't likely to accidentally chop any limbs off.

Zayne was thankful. While last weekend had been a little bizarre, at least it didn't leave MCA in any kind of a mess. There wasn't even a kiddie pool full of water to deal with this time. Really, there was no horrible fallout from last weekend at all... unless you counted the smell in his clothes. Apparently filthy hippie stank lasted after everything else was back to normal. So he had most of his admittedly small wardrobe being washed in the laundry room for the sixth time while he sat behind the desk in the lobby in his old Padawan robes.

There was a sign by the door that said "Rooms Available."

With a choice between going back home to try to confront whatever might be happening there, or staying in Fandom to tackle whatever bigger issues inevitably came here, Zayne felt that he had to stick with Fandom. But that meant passing time until the portals shut down so he didn't impulsively decide to change his mind or something.

And so he was going to try to get into the damn unmarked closet in the lobby. He didn't have a key for it. He hadn't been able to pick the lock or break the door down. Now seemed like a good time to use his lightsaber to cut his way in. Any time he tried to cut into the door, the lightsaber just fizzled out. It was annoying.

[OOC: I'm spotty today due to vacation type business. If you're cool with SP, though, so am I!

If you're interested in renting at MCA, there is one sub-basement apartment available. Information on apartments is here.]

After having some trouble calling back to Coruscant to talk to Gryph, Zayne decided to get started on something he'd been hoping to do. So instead of sitting upstairs in the lobby like normal, he left a sign saying, "If you need Zayne for anything, call 555-YMCA."

Between the Portalocity e-mails, a general bad feeling about things, and the fact that the basement apartment was gigantic and just opened up, Zayne was turning it into a security bunker. He needed armor plating for the floor and ceiling (which was what he was starting on right now) and probably needed a collection of non-lethal weapons to stock the place with.

Yep, when he was done, the people of MCA would have a brand new place to go and hunker down when things got rough.

... After thinking about it for a moment, Zayne realized that he probably shouldn't mention that to anyone looking for an apartment. It was probably something to bring up after they moved in so they wouldn't be too freaked out about it before they signed a lease.

[OOC: If you're interested in renting at MCA, there is one apartment available. Information on apartments is here.

Post is open to anyone who might be in the basement of an apartment building. I will be slow at times, though.]

Surely there were plenty of things Zayne could be doing right now to take care of the place a little bit. But screw that, he was playing with blocks. He wasn't even sure what exactly he was building, but it sure was big. He was using the Force to place blocks on the other side of the lobby as he was fixing the sections of wall that went down when he used the Force to place blocks on this side.

Blocks were astral.

Zayne was happy to finally be all caught up with various bits of paperwork. Now he could focus on important things as he sat behind the counter in the lobby. Sure, it probably looked like he was sitting there with his eyes closed, maybe even taking a nap. But if asked, he'd tell everyone he was training by lifting weights inside the locked vault in the office. He was a trustworthy guy despite the whole former fugitive and con artist/thief thing. He'd probably be telling the truth as far as anyone could tell.

[OOC: Heading out to see Real Steel in a half hour, but back in the afternoon. ROCK 'EM SOCK 'EM: THE MOVIE. I've been waiting to finally go for weeks.

If you're interested in renting at MCA, there are a couple apartments available. Information on apartments is here.]

MCA Lobby, Tuesday

Zayne wasn't normally at the desk on a Tuesday, but he needed to get some more paperwork in order after renting out an apartment to Jon. But right now, despite the paperwork, Zayne was happy. The building was almost filled with residents, everything seemed to be in working order, and nobody had been in an elevator accident since the weekend everything was insane.

Right now, there was only one drawback to everything: the door in the middle of the lobby.

Zayne didn't seem to have a key for it. He was pretty sure it was just a janitor's closet, but without confirmation and a key, how could he really know? He was going to have to break into it at some point, but he needed to time it right just in case there was a monster in there or something. Yes, this was an actual concern.

[OOC: Slow until I'm home from work of course.

Zayne was over by the office today, just in case anyone needed him for anything. And, as it turned out, he didn't have to wait long for someone to come by.

"This is the place you spent our money on?" Gryph demanded as he walked in. "I'm going to need a full tour. Basements, subbasements, roof garages, the whole thing!"

"Nice to see you too, Gryph. Thanks for calling ahead to let me know you'd be visiting," Zayne said.

"You probably would have tidied up if I had. Come on, let's get this tour started," Gryph said.

[OOC: Open to residents, families, and the wandering public. If you're interested in renting at MCA, you can find information on apartments here.]

If there was a disturbance in the Force when the women became men, Zayne didn't feel it. And since he was no longer on the fourth floor, he didn't even hear the from the pony's apartment. Nope, Zayne was completely ignorant to the weirdness as he sat behind the counter in the lobby, taking some time to meditate (unless someone interrupted).

It was a quiet morning so far. Nobody had called down to the office with a dead body or a lght bulb that needed to be replaced yet, so Zayne was taking it easy and lounged next to pool in the lobby. After all, what better way was there to show off his chest in public this early in the morning? If anyone had any issues that needed to be taken care of, he was close enough to the phone or they could just, you know, come downstairs. Maybe take a dip in the pool first, like that was normal behavior.

Which it totally was.

In the meantime, Zayne was just going to tan and ponder what property he should buy up next. Maybe the pet store, and then kick all the pets out, if he wanted to become a real land tycoon. But that still seemed like a few steps away. You probably needed to build up to abandoning that many animals. Something to think about while he lounged.

[OOC: Open to residents or anyone who wants to lounge by/fight by/fight in/drown in a kiddie pool. IF YOU WANT TO DROWN IN THE KIDDIE POOL, let me know. Zayne can be in the office for a few minutes.
