drumsticksandd20s: (Festival Lights)

The rainbow in the sky over the island for Pride was tradition, any and all weather logic be damned, and it seemed to be especially -- almost defiantly -- bright this year.

And the festival's organizer wouldn't have it any other way.

The park was all decked out in rainbows, glitter, and miniature Pride flags of different varieties. The bounce house and ballpit slide were back again to serve as the centerpiece this year, as were the assortment of rides and very queer-themed carnival games.

The stage with its NPC bands and open-mic sessions was set up next to the picnic area, where an assortment of highly moddable foods had been provided by whichever restaurants Steph had strong-armed into prevailed upon to contribute. Tables and booths were set up on the other side of the picnic area for any vendors or local businesses that wanted to take part, but don't worry, no one was going to try and get you to sign up for a credit card or anything like that. Steph would have personally beaten anyone who tried that over the head with their own clipboard.

Happy Pride, Fandom! Have at it.

[OOC: After I put up the OCD, that is. Threads are up! Go wild.]

Thor had one of the mixology books Don had borrowed for him from the library with him tonight for his shift at the bar, although he would be keeping it well clear of the bar and the potential splash zone.

He was not, however, venturing into the realm of wild creativity just yet. It was too hot for that.

After a long evening scouting out the island (and only being slightly distracted by how quiet and clean it had been. He hadn't seen a single stabbing all night! It was unnatural!), Flint made a third pass along Minotaur Lane. His Greek myth loving heart appreciated the name, even if washing up in a place so organized it had street signs made his skin crawl a bit.

The massive building on the corner had too many people going in and out but the small bookshop tucked into its shadow seemed silent far into the morning.

Trying to appear casual despite the bright red "FFD" across the front of the shirt that the two firemen had given him yesterday, he stepped up to the door and broke the lock, then stepped inside.

He was greeted by more books than he'd ever seen in his life. Running cautious fingers along spines as he read the titles, stopping when one in particular caught his eye. "The Decline and Fall of the British Empire", he read aloud, then laughed until tears streamed down his cheeks.

Anyone walking past would now see a ginger man curled in a chair by the window in an unlit book shop, avidly reading.

Look, of course there were dice (bouncy and click-clack-y!) and dice trays in various Pride flag palettes in the store, and of course the display minis were already arranged in a tiny parade formation. Of course there was a huge flag on display in the front window, and freshly made posters advertising the upcoming Fandom Pride weekend. But Steph had also put up all the posters and parade signs she'd ever collected from Portland and Seattle Pride and an informational display, plus a big plaque of a QR code that linked to a useful page of queer history resources.

(Yes, at the bottom of the plaque it said "scan the QueeR code to learn more!" Of course it did.)

And there was, like she'd always had by the Record Traders register back in Haven Springs, a dish full of buttons labeled Take One! A good chunk of them were geek themed, naturally; others were just simple flag stripes, or had pithy and sometimes cheesy quotes. A number were handmade, even, with slogans scrawled in black Sharpie, and those were... a little on the in-your-face side. Most of those had been in Steph's collection for years, made by Chloe in their Arcadia Bay days, and people tended to be a little uncertain about taking those.

If some of them looked like they'd been painted by gremlins that was because there were several gremlins seated next to a box of blank buttons in the mini-painting area, carefully maneuvering a paintbrush as a group. Hey, if they wanted to contribute what was Steph going to do, stop them?

Nah. She was trying to come up with a t-shirt design for the festival, and 'gremlin-bitten' really wasn't the style she was going for.

The Ghoul had to admit, he had missed coffee. That had been one of the first things to go when the world went to shit -- real coffee. And it was one of the few things he could eat or drink that he could actually taste. So he was back at the Perk with Dogmeat, sitting at a table with the largest, blackest coffee they could get him.

He wondered if caffeine could even affect him anymore. There were a whole lotta other drugs fighting it in his system.

Through some convoluted series of events that Gale thought better of trying to untangle... Tara was inexplicably married to a squirrel by the name of Leroy. No, he wasn't aware of how these things sometimes happened on the island. Not to this degree at least.

Which was why Gale was spending his time at the shop, researching annulments for his dear friend while she lounged on the counter.

"I could simply become a widow," Tara suggested.

"Tara," Gale responded with abject horror. "We cannot simply murder our way out of problems!"

That would come later. When he had to deal with mindflayers and cults and all the sort.

While it was most assuredly Tara's place of employment, Gale was there to make sure anything needing opposable thumbs done could, well, be done. Mostly, however, he was behind the counter, looking over a variety of books to decide which might be the easiest for Wanda or anyone else in his class tomorrow to understand in order to best utilize magic.

Tara? Sprawled out on the chair that had been chained up before, snoozing in a sunbeam. If anyone thought she wasn't a dedicated employee, they'd be wrong. She was merely resting her eyes before any customers could happen in.

Yes.

Did you know there was a catalogue that sold only costumes for your Home Depot skeleton? Wanda didn't know either until one appeared at the shop's doorstep when she came in today.

She was definitely about to spend way too much money.

The other day, Ignis had made a suggestion and that had given Liliana an idea for a surprise for him. It was a truth well acknowledged by this point that Liliana positively adored surprises, either giving or receiving, and she could also acknowledge that Ignis deserved something nice after a week as a bat, followed by a near week of muteness from her, and then dealing with all of the stress of the Chain Veil.

And, fortunately, for all that it was a long poem, she had managed to break them up into decent-sized bits, stealing a few minutes here and there throughout the weekend to bring her surprise to life. There was still a long bit left, but she was confident she could finish it before Ignis might stop by with treats.

In the window was the week's newest artifact.
