Jan, still wearing the garland boa Brooke had made for him yesterday, was at the beach. He'd yet to return to his room. Restless, he hadn't been able to sit still or sleep for more than a few minutes at a time.

He needed to be home. He needed to be home now, to discover what had become of the herd. He didn't even know if Tek had survived. His mate, his herd...

Rearing, he struck the ground with his forehooves, then kicked out with his back legs, wild with impatience. "When, Alma? When will I return home?" he demanded.

That same voice, quiet, still, calm. Patience, Jan. They come. Be still.

Snorting in frustration, he broke into a stiff-legged trot, ploughing through the sand, before taking up station on the small rise, staring out over the ocean. From the ocean he had come; by the ocean, therefore, he must return.

[ooc: Open, yup, and this is probably the last chance to catch him before he leaves tomorrow. The garland around his neck is red, in case anyone was wondering :D]

It rapidly became clear that Apu didn't care that Jan was actually Aljan, Prince of the Unicorns.

He also didn't care about Jan's mate, Tek, or his shoulder-friend, Dagg, or the gryphon's attack or, in fact, anything that Jan had remembered.

Not that this stopped Jan from talking about it, oh no.

Jan happily frisked after him as Apu checked the buttermilk, just to be on the safe side.

Today's Squishy flavours: purple, gingerbread, cinnammon.

See Jan.

See Jan run.

See Jan run around the island like a great big dork, speed and movement the only way to express his joy.

He knew who he was, he remembered everything, but with memory came fear and confusion and a desperate longing to return to his herd and his mate.

Sliding to a sand-scattering stop on the beach, Jan pranced along the water's edge. This was the same spot where Aravis had found him, where he'd washed up after being driven into the sea by the gryphons.

"Alma, mother of us all, how am I to get home?"

All unexpected, he received an answer. Patience, Aljan. They are coming to take you home, but they have a long way to travel.

He started, shied. "Who? Who is coming?" he cried, rearing to his full height.

The voice was silent, and he dropped back to all fours to stare out over the ocean.

[ooc: open, sure - I may be slow, though, 'cause first there needs to be coffee and then I'm ripping down my room.]

Apu was stationed behind the cash register, arms folded, glaring at Jan.

He hadn't meant to break it, really he hadn't. He'd just wanted to see if he could make the keys work with his horn and his nose as well as he had when he'd had human fingers.

The short answer: no.

The long answer: was mostly in Hindi, which was a blessing, because none of it was repeatable in polite company. It wasn't even repeatable in rude, nasty, foul-mouthed company.

Jan was pretending to be meek while he pranced down the aisles to the merry tunes coming from the radio. Even a broken cash register couldn't dampen his spirits.

Apu kept glaring as he waited for the repair man to arrive.

Today's Squishy flavours: Pear, Partridge, and Oops.

Turtle did not have a good morning, which was why she was actually sucking down coffee, anything, to try to forget it. She wasn't even going bother with paperwork today, she was just going to sit behind the counter and occasional hit her forehead on it repeatedly.

Jan was looking very meek today, ears drooping and tail held low.

He'd listened to Apu lecture him about his duty to Turtle & Canary, and how he had let down the store by not showing up for work.

Jan muttered a brief explanation and the words 'I was a plushie' made Apu pause long enough for Jan to skitter around the shelves and out of sight.

Today's Squishie flavours: Red, Blue, Gillty Green (tastes fishy)

Tody, Jan was pestering Apu. Why were there so many different sorts of oats? Why did people need so many different kinds of drinks?

Why this, why that, why the other?

Apu's smile was getting rather manic, his eyes slightly glazed, as Jan kept coming up with new questions.

Today's Squishy flavours: Quizzical Quince, Puzzled Peach, and Red.

There seemed to be an awful lot of tiny candy bars in the store this week.

Jan wasn't sure why, exactly, but he did know that they were delicious. Bite size and sweet, and maybe he shouldn't have eaten quite so many.

Or at least he should have gotten Apu to take the wrappers off for him first.

Turtle & Canary was open, and manned by a slightly nauseous, rather hyper unicorn.

Today's Squishy flavours: Pumpkin, Candycorn and Green

As the sun went down, the twinkling fairy-lights that had been strung around the park took its place as a light source. Not nearly as big, but it was enough to see the food and the dance area by, with the help of some strategically placed torches in the shape of old-fashioned gaslamps. Nor nearly as warm, but there were carefully-controlled braziers here and there to take the nip out of the evening air.

Around the dance area and along the buffet tables there was a proliferation of orange, brown and rust-coloured harvest flowers that might have bordered on excessive, as if someone got rather excited about being offered a job this important, but it was still within the bounds of good taste.

[OCD is now up. Have fun!]
[identity profile] firebringerborn.livejournal.com
For some reason, most likely because of class yesterday, Jan was twitchy today. He kept looking over his shoulder, as if expecting gryphons to leap out from behind the bottled water.

When a random gust of wind blew the doors open, he bugled a challenge and charged at them, only to slide to a highly embarrassed stop.

Apu glared and brandished a broom at him, sending Jan skittering back to patrol the area near the oats, ears drooping.
[identity profile] firebringerborn.livejournal.com
Jan was moping around the store while Apu rolled his eyes at him.

He hadn't even been sure he should come in after Sunday, but it was his job until someone told him otherwise, so here he was.

On time. Absolutely, indisputably, and unquestionably on time. Really.

Today's squishy flavours: Blue, Red, Duckpond
[identity profile] firebringerborn.livejournal.com
Jan and Apu had had a little talk. Not that Jan would ever threaten him, oh no. All he'd done was point out to Apu that, should the shop indeed be invaded, it would be much better to have a unicorn who liked you to defend you, rather than one who didn't.

And that if Apu would stop bemoaning the fact that he had to work with a unicorn he and Jan could be friends.

This logic could not be argued with, and the two had reached an accord. Apu was manning the counter, Jan was unicorning patrolling the aisles, ready to direct a customer or fight off an invasion as the need arose.

Today's Squishy flavours: Red, Apple, Noble Steed (tastes like parfait).

The Breeze blew in -- wait, no, wrong book

A raven swooped down to perch on the back of a bench and settled there for a moment, ruffling its feathers and stretching its wings as though it'd just flown a long distance.

Which it had. From Montana, even.

Then the raven opened its mouth and seemed to expand, feathers riding up on suddenly featherless fingers, pulling back and turning red as its legs grew into human legs and its beak shrank into a human nose.

And then there was a young man in black buckskin with red feather trim crouching on the back of the bench. He hopped forward and slouched down, surveying his surroundings and wishing for a cigarette.

Coyote had arrived.

[ooc: it's a park. Kinda open by definition.]

The toothache was, blissfully, gone and she got to train a freaking unicorn in her store today, but Turtle was still seething a bit at that stupid Stephanides kid and his spitting. Who spit on people? Who spit on girls? Something wasn't right with that kid...

...but she was training Jan today, and, really, that would have made everything better even if she still had the toothache. She'd just have to remind herself to be extra careful not to nuzzle him too much, as that might be inappropriate since he was her employee now.

Today's Squishy flavors: Grape Judas, Hay, Green Green Grass

(She figured he'd like those flavors).

Turtle & Canary is open!

The toothache was still present, but it had soothed to a point where Turtle, while still miserable, could at the very least come into work and sit behind the counter and work out a bit of a schedule for Apu to cover her while she checked out the monthly markets. That nifty gum-soothing ointment thing was her best friend in the world right now.

Today's Squishy flavors: Grape Judas, Florine, Bubble Gum

Jan had lost his contest, and he had lost it not because Korr was better, but because he had been stupid. Not just to break out of the pattern, but to believe, even for a moment, that Korr would stay, that his hatred had been anything but real.

Everything Korr had said to him came back, and he hung his head, miserable, pawing the earth. You are corrupter and betrayer. Weanling sop who led the unicorns away from Alma's laws. Your name is a curse...

He didn't even remember his name; it had been a gift from the voice upon his arrival. He snorted, pawing the earth again, and threw his head up to gaze out over the ocean.

[ooc: open, yup]

Jan had been grazing on the dorm lawn when he'd caught the scent. It was faint, distant, but still he'd known it. It was a unicorn.

Heart racing, he'd followed it, nose lifted into the breeze, trotting through Fandom's streets until there, in the distance, he'd seen him: another stallion, as dark as Jan, but thinner, taller.

With a glad cry, Jan sprang into a canter, sliding to a stop in front of the other unicorn. It was a unicorn, one of Jan's people, and so it never occurred to him that this might be one of the denizens of the bad island.

Which was a shame, really.

[ooc: initial thread locked to me, la, but after that, Korr will still be in the park if you want to be threatened/chased/injured by a crazy unicorn.]

The past few weeks of work were finally coming to a head, and Charlotte was both nervous and excited and getting herself worked up into a frenzy with making sure everything was perfect. She couldn't help feeling an overwhelming sense of satisfaction with the exhibit, though. The turnout wasn't huge, but nicely manageable and thankfully not small by any measure. Some of the work was a bit amateurish, but she had to admit to being pretty blown away by a few of the others.

By the time eight o'clock rolled around and the doors were open, the gallery was set up in a display of the pieces by artist, and the usual spread of treats and drinks were available in another area of the room. Charlotte, dressed in a vibrant red, milled around the gallery to make sure everything was in order and all the guests were enjoying the exhibit. She was also keeping an eye out for the artists of certain pieces, since she was very eager to potentially meet them.

The Community Showcase Exhibit was open!

[[ or will be, once I get the very extensive OCD up! It's up! Enjoy! ]]

Sokka was bored. Bored, bored, bored, bored. This wasn't at ALL something that people should be scared of.

After a while, a sign went up in the window:

WARNING:
BEWARE OF NINJA ATTACK HUGS

Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of judging watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

[ooc: OCD up! Party down!]

Jan was grazing, because he was hungry and because unicorns ate grass.

It didn't mean he was enjoying it. Not when he'd tasted oats.

He knew where the oats came from, they came from that delicious smelling building across the road, but he didn't know exactly how to go about getting them.

So he grazed, sending longing glances towards J,GoB every few steps.

[ooc: So open, yup!]
