Christopher woke up this morning in need of some exercise, so he shrugged on his letterman's sweater, grabbed his baseball and his glove, and jogged out to the park, where he proceeded to play catch with himself. He tossed his ball high in the air and then jogged to catch it, and of coursem he caught it every time.

It wasn't enough of a challenge, because Christopher was a great athlete, one of the best ever seen in this corner of Maryland. He was probably going to get a baseball scholarship to his dream school, in fact, which he had his heart set on even though he was only a junior and school wasn't his favorite thing in the world. But for right now, he'd be here, playing catch with himself and occasionally taking water breaks and peering around the park to see if anyone else wanted to join him. Gosh, maybe there'd even be pretty girls. Though the baseball should be kept away from them, of course. For safety.

Kitty had no reason to participate in 3 Minute Dates, but she'd still shown up to handle the bar, and because it was really potentially entertaining. Of course, if anyone asked she'd probably say something like she wanted to make sure no one got so angry at a date that they did damage to the bar or something.

The bar was open for post-daters, spectators, and people who'd just wandered in on Saturday night, and your bartender was eying the puppy thing like she expected him to do something weird(er) at any moment.

A sign was posted at the front door:

Caritas Presents:
3 MINUTE DATES
with your host Yakko Warner

With a blare of trumpets signalling 8:00 PM, Yakko strode out onto the stage. "Welcome one, welcome all, to 3 Minute Dates here at Caritas. The normal guy couldn't be here tonight because who cares, so you're stuck with me. I know what you're thinking. 'Who signed me up for this anyway?' I was wondering the same thing myself, but I've learned not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Isn't that right, Stanley?" A horse wearing braces on his teeth and a present bow on his saddle came out onto the stage. Yakko held a hand up to stage whisper, "He's self-conscious about it."

"Anyway, without further ado," Yakko started.

"Bless you," Stanley said.

"Thank you, Stanley, let's get this started! When I honk this horn," Yakko said, honking a very comedic sounding horn, "We'll get started with the first round. Every time I honk it after that," Yakko said, squeezing the horn and having the 'crash and burn' noise come out of the horn, "your three minutes are up and it'll be time to move on. And just to make sure you're really on your toes with this timing thing...."

Yakko pulled the stage's curtain aside to show a big white disc standing up. Yakko jumped onto the disc and started using his hands as a minute and second hand on a clock.

And then, with the sound of a donkey braying, Yakko hit the horn. "Good luck!"

"We know that things have not been very okay lately," Dolf said. There was no better way to start a meeting than with an understatement, right? "People and places have been disappearing and nobody but us seems to remember they existed. And the causeway is being crazy, says the radio."

He wouldn't know. His own universe was still out of reach for him, and he didn't exactly spend a lot of time on the mainland - he still felt self-conscious about his English. "So we thought we should all talk, and come up with ideas." He shot Karla and Wesley an expectant look.

Karla glanced over at him and nodded, stepping forward. "The big problem is, we have no idea what's going on. We can't tell if there's some kind of pattern, if there was some kind of precipitating event, where the vanished things are going--or even if there is a where. Right now, we're dealing with a lot of suppositions and half-guesses. That's one of the reasons we called this meeting today, before people started going home for the holiday."

If anyone was able to leave, that was.

"One of the things we need is more information. Are people vanishing from your world? Who? When? What happens when objects and places vanish? Are there things that are linking the disappeared across multiverses? The more information we have, the better we'll be able to figure out what is going on. And from there, figure out how to reverse it."

"We understand that some of you may have lost people, and it might be difficult to talk about," Wesley made sure to add. "But if you're at all able, it'd be invaluable for us if you could share what you've been experiencing, both here and in your home worlds. And if you know of anything from your home or anywhere else that might be responsible for what's been happening, even if you aren't certain, that could be incredibly useful as well. It's difficult to propose any sort of a solution without an idea of what the cause is."

Hadn't stopped him from all but living in the library over the past week, though.

"So." He sat down in one of the chairs that had been set up in a huge circle. "Would anyone particularly like to start?"

Vast amusement was... possibly not the usual reaction to holding the first day of tryouts, no. Especially not when he actually did want people to stop by.

But Genesis rarely went for the usual reaction if he was in a position where he could, for all intents and purposes, pick his reaction. Being contrary was far more amusing as he saw it.

Besides, it was not as if he planned to laugh in their faces.

... He could only hope that, should anyone come by, they’d be talented enough that he wouldn’t have to work to keep from laughing. There was little point in scaring them off before he’d gotten them up on stage, after all.

"Alright, guys!" Zack's arms were crossed over his chest as he looked around the streets. Handwavey Messages had been left on the phones of anybody who had exchanged numbers at past Reserve meetings, Martial or Magic, and people had been told to bring whatever they needed in order to go zombie-fish hunting. "This is kind of like the time we had alligators burping goldfish, but this time, there aren't any gators, and the fish mean business. I don't want anybody setting off to face them down on their own, you hear me?"

He casually ducked as a swarm of piranha zipped by, where his head had been a moment before.

Karla sent a flare of Sapphire power after the swarm, dropping them in mid-air. Hello! They were talking here! No reason to be man-eating and rude.

"There's no reason for anyone to keep fighting while injured, or anything like that, so if you get bit or something, head back to the dorms or the clinic and have someone stitch you back up," Karla continued. "The last thing any of us want is some kind of suppurating flesh wound. They're gross."

While Karla spoke, the piranhas had undergone their zombiefication and flung themselves back up into the air, heading back for the group.

"Great. Also, it looks like you have to kill them twice."

A well-aimed Fira spell courtesy of Zack took care of the re-raised fish, and after a moment taken to poke at one of the char-broiled bodies with his toe, Zack shrugged and looked to the group.

"Let's get to it, then, and show these fish that they're messing with the wrong island!"

Karla was exhausted, but dragged herself to work anyway. It was nice to have a work to go back to. And even nicer to see Hercules there, mewling at her ankles, apparently no worse the wear for his weekend wherever.

After a few minutes of mandatory kitten cuddling, Karla made sure that the store was ready to be opened (and that there was nothing creepy lurking in any of the back rooms), then parked herself behind the counter and tried not to fall asleep. She'd spent all of last night talking to Warren, babbling really, filling the silence with words and songs from her childhood to keep the memories of whatever at bay. That, compounded with a weekend of battling nasties, made for a very sleepy Karla.

Surely 'Dite wouldn't mind her taking just a little nap, right?

[I'm taking the nephew to 6 Flags today! Mod the shop as needed, though feel free to ping Karla if you're okay with massive SP.]

Ow. Ow. Ow.

Karla was sore. Considering where she worked, that might have been a set up for a really good (or bad) joke, but it wasn't. She had just spent a whole weekend hiking through a forest, falling into caves, fighting with slavers, and then walking all over Rome. She'd thought she was in pretty decent shape, but her leg muscles were informing her otherwise today.

So rather than doing anything productive, Karla was just going to curl up with an Angelica Desmesnes novel and wish that the so-called 'personal massagers' really were meant for massaging.

After almost a month away from the store, it felt a little odd to be back behind the counter again.

Visiting the store with her parents (and that hadn't been awkward, no not at all) meant she'd noticed that 'Dite was making some changes to the stock and inventory, but she hadn't really been able to see exactly what the goddess had been up to. Saying, "Mom, Dad, mind waiting here while I count the number of vibrators in the back room?" just hadn't seemed like a good idea at the time.

Since Karla had no intention of sitting still and letting herself think for any extended period of time, she decided that now would be an excellent time to get a better idea of what changes 'Dite had implemented. Three cheers for useful distractions!

It was going to be a hot day and, as such, the NPC Landscaping crew had thought ahead and had erected a few tents over the garden area so people wouldn't swelter. They'd still have to battle the heat but the sun would be less intense.

The trees that had been planted last week were now being tended to and today's job was back to planting flowers in the garden. The lot was large, giving the workers a lot of room to plant. The NPC Landscaping crew was hopeful for variety and a lot of pretty colors.

They weren't a fickle bunch.

It was a beautiful day as far as Dandelion was concerned. Then again it could be raining brimstone and fire and Dandelion probably wouldn't notice, so the whole "beautiful day" thing could just be in her own head.

Anyway, as Dandelion was crossing Apocalypse avenue her shoelace became untied. This of itself is not a truly newsworthy event but as a result Dandelion had stepped on her shoelace with her other foot preventing any immediate progress.

"What's that?" Dandelion said looking down at her feet. "Oh! I appear to be stuck!"

She then attempted to pull her shoelace out from under her foot... unsuccessfully.

"Zounds!" she exclaimed. "This is a predicament!"

Um. Not really. No. She just needs to lift her foot. However it was this precise moment that she noticed a very slow moving rickshaw coming down the street.

"LOKI'S HORNS! THAT RICKSHAW IS GOING TO CRASH INTO ME!"

It should also be noted that the rickshaw is about two blocks away.

"HELP! SOMEBODY! HEEEELP!"

And the rickshaw? Still moving very slowly.

[Yes. I think I'm funny. And no, I do not have a resolution for this Meet Cute scenario. Open to anyone who can pick up Dandelion's own foot.

After plotting and planning, all their wicked ideas were about to come to fruition. A long stretch of beach had been roped off, and white party lights and tiki torches provided the illumination for Sookie's birthday party. Orchids and other exotic flowers covered the tables, and each girl was presented with a lei or flower crown upon arrival. A pair of very attractive NPC bartenders were staffing the two open bars, and at the birthday girl's private table, there was a cake.

This is what happened when people left planning up to Emma, Karla, and poor, wide-eyed Bobby.

At least Bobby hadn't been expected to handle things like flowers or decorations. He was thankful for that. Food, though. Food was easy. There was a wide selection of moddable dishes from just about every establishment on the island. Okay, so he'd gone a little overboard. And maybe off-theme since some of the dishes were decidedly non-Tiki-Party-ish, but his heart was in the right place.

The dress code that had been written on the invitations was being enforced; swimsuits, or dress-casual summer wear, and everyone had to take a turn acting as Cabana Boy (or Girl) to the Guest of Honor.

Of course, Bobby was on hand to make sure that nobody took too long of a turn, because, hey. Girlfriend. His prerogative. Something like that.

Though if people wanted to play Cabana Boy/Girl for other party goers, it's doubtful anyone would complain.

He had all these biological functions now. They were exhausting.

"Today I thought I would simply ask all of you a question: How do you deal with the monotony of every day life? It's all very repetitive, and your various biological functions interrupt you too frequently to approach it with a properly meditative spirit. I find it very frustrating."

Alas, poor now-mostly-human-angel. He hadn't yet discovered the true wonders of narcotics and sex.

After her morning class, Raven headed into town to 'Dite's shop, hoping to find it all back to normal. Well, as "normal" as the store ever was. But she was dismayed to find it was still the same as it had been Monday night when she'd picked up Karla, and she could still sense the lingering storm of negative emotions. She took a hesitant step inside, looking around for 'Dite. "Hello?" she called out. "Lady Aphrodite?"

Snipped for brief preplay. )

Raven was torn between the urge to just flee and the fear of making 'Dite even more upset. The rage she was sensing from her was overpowering, and it took all her shielding to keep it from affecting her. Maybe if she stayed she could figure out a way to help Aphrodite and alleviate her anger. Something was terribly wrong, and it wasn't in her to just walk away and ignore the situation, no matter how embarrassed she was.

In the meantime, 'Dite's Decadent Delights was open, and the empath was doing her best to hide behind the counter.

After the insane weekend she had--which included getting up after her nap to thank Alex Karev and ended with her punching him several times--Karla was more than ready to get back into the nice, steady, non-crazy routine of the week. Looking forward to it in fact.

The first sign that all was not going to be regular or routine was the shock she got grasping the handle of the door. Rage, bitterness, and betrayal coursed through the that point of contact. Wood and stone and metal absorbed the strong emotions of the people within and while it had been too long to draw out any visions of what had occurred to upset 'Dite so, the building remembered her reaction.

Filled with concern, Karla opened the door--and stepped into a strange new place. Explicit pornography was still playing on giant teevees ringing the walls. Leather and metal and images of body parts were everywhere.

And on the desk was a package with her name on it and a very brief note: Wear it. Upon seeing what was inside, Karla was very, very tempted to walk over to the Arms and demand what the Hell 'Dite was on when she thought this was a good idea.

And then she remembered the seething anger from the door.

Next week, she decided. She'd take 'Dite to task for it next week.

Until then, 'Dite's was open and Karla was...technically dressed.

As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

James lunged.

Wearing a loose tunic and his worst breeches, James moved through a set of moves, swinging a thick branch in place of a sword, his bare feet making patterns in the sand. The 'sword' flashed out rapidly as he moved from attack to parry back to attack in the cooling evening air. He was determined not to let himself rust from complacency, and he dare not take his sword out to the beach.

A few more moves, and he paused, breathing more heavy that he liked. "Not bad, needs work," he muttered, leaning on his 'practice sword' tip-down in the sand.

"Occasionally watermelons," Sam said. "You get past that husk, and there are seeds everywhere."

"I don't think it matters what kind of underbellies they are," Max mused. "So long as they're ours."

"Want to fine some unsuspecting citizens?" Sam asked.

After the usual dance around the shop to spend at least a little bit of time to revel in all the pretty clothing, Ariel was able to keep herself relaxing at the counter today. She divided her attention between two tasks: one was, of course, to work a little more on her plan to get that darn kiss, but the other was by the suggestion of the fashion magazines. Apparently, she needed to get ready for summer. It seemed easier than she'd expected, considering the attention being devoted to it.

She even already had (she thought) the beach ready bikini body. It was just a matter of finding a bottom that would nicely match her shells...

Castiel was still reeling a bit from talking to his brother that weekend. Gabriel had made some excellent points -- and observed that Dean hadn't, in fact, ended the world. Which, you know, was all good news, right?

Right. Except for the bit where Castiel really couldn't get back on his own just now and was now feeling rather inadequate as an angel and a protector of humanity. It didn't help that one of the unnamed kittens had stubbed her toe exploring. He couldn't even protect the kitten. He was a failure as a heavenly warrior.

Which all went to explain why he was kind of trashed for today's sermon.
