Ned was having dinner with his mother. Thinking that still made his hair stand on end. It felt like his childhood hadn't ever happened. It felt like it'd been one long nightmare and now it was over and he could breathe again.

They'd kept the conversation light. Ned hadn't wanted to think about the past and his mother hadn't wanted to dwell. She'd wanted to hear about his school, Rhode Island, his friends and Kaylee. He'd obliged, of course, and now they were sitting in comfortable silence, waiting for the girl in question to arrive.

Hopefully Ned wouldn't start crying again.

Town Hall was all decked out in harvest theme with this being so close to Halloween and all. Pumpkins and squash and random corn! The corn, people! Think of the corn! But please, for the love of all that is holy, don't allow your children near it. Especially not the creepy gingers.

There was plenty of food and punch--not yet spiked--set to the side of the spacious room. Which left plenty of space for the general mulling about that kids were so fond of these days. Or dancing. And even the occasional dark bits in which to lurk. Have a fun homecoming, kiiiiids and remember to vote!

The hall was still full of sleepers.

Luckily, there was plenty of food, coffee, and other drinks around to keep the doctors, nurses, volunteers and worried folk awake and wired and ready to spot any changes in condition.

For her part, Ino dreamt of sleep. But not the creepy sort of sleep. She could live without that, thanks. Unfortunately, she didn't have the time to sleep right now and there was no point in complaining.

There was work to be done, after all.

[Wait for the OCD or I will sic tired grumpy Ino on you. OCD is up, hurrah!]

The calls had started early in the morning, and the patients had followed shortly after, all with the same problem - people had fallen asleep and couldn't be woken up. It didn't take long for it to become clear that the clinic wouldn't hold everyone - there really were a finite number of rooms in the place - and in quite possibly the only instance of anyone ever being grateful for the plague, it wasn't long before Martha, the nurses, and the town hall staff had figured out how to recreate the emergency clinic in the town hall. Cots were set up, supplies were brought over, and the rest of the clinic staff had been contacted. Now, all they needed was to get everyone rounded up to be taken care of, and to try to figure out what was wrong.

[ocd is up!]

The dance was still in full swing. It was still brightly decorated, the music was still pumping and the punch was completely spiked.

Have fun!

Today was the day before the day the new kids came! Kaylee could hardly believe she'd been there for a whole year already.

This would be what prompted her to scrupulously take pictures of her entire walk to work, and of her work today. Her mama'd not had an update in awhile.

[AFK after like 7 EST, but otherwise open!]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee, who was quickly approaching her first year on this planet, spent her time at work today writing a letter home to her mother on her wee comm device.

She vaguely pondered baking something with Ned to send along, as well. It'd worked well enough at Christmas.

[open but I'm dashing to work myself at 5:15, so SP omgggggggggg]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
This week, Kaylee wasn't hiding from zombies or babysitting her daughter from...somewhere, or anything.

So this week, she was very, very preoccupied with the candy she'd bought on her way over, and the wee structures she was making of jellybeans and licorice.

She was allowed.

[SPPPPPPPPP FOR REALZ AND NOW IN THE RIGHT COMM.]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Most people probably didn't make themselves seventeenth birthday presents, much less out of spare parts.

Most people weren't Kaylee. So she was poking around to see what she could put together.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee was in no mood today. She was trying to keep upbeat, but there were...problems, and she didn't know what to do.

So it was an extremely frustrated Kaylee who was painstakingly taking apart a microwave today. Why? Because it was something to do with her hands.

[AFK from like 2-4 but THEN AROUND ALL NIGHT YAY FOR ONCE I HAVE A FRIDAY NIGHT OFF. *spends it at the computer*]
[identity profile] yourwhiteknight.livejournal.com
So far disaster hadn't struck and it seems that the StuCo wasn't tempting fate with the choice of decor. Good thing. It would suck to have an invasion before everyone got lucky on Valentine's Day.

There was still plenty of food to eat, dances to be had and, hey, it looked like someone spiked the punch.

[You are some damn talky people. This is your mirror post (possibly not your last) for the dance. Wait for the OCD or you'll have me to deal with and I fight dirty up!]

TODAY WAS THE DAY OF A DANCE.

Yes, it deserved capslock, since that was how Kaylee as thinking of it. She had her dress, and she had cute shoes that she wouldn't trip over, and she was going to make Claudia do her hair.

But, for the time being, she was bouncing around the shop and humming tunelessly.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee kind of loved her hat yesterday, to be honest. So her shift today was spent looking up similar hats online. Maybe she could wear it to the next big party!

[slowiiiiiiiiiiish today!]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Today, Kaylee was painstakingly painting pink flowers on what appeared to be a carburetor.

Why not?

[I'm sorry for the lateness! AFK around 5:00 EST.]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
The power coming back on had been a welcome turn of events for Kaylee, who was getting rather sick of wearing eleventy-thousand layers to bed.

Plus, it made it easier to work with her hands, which was very handy for her today since she was once again taking apart car parts.

[fair warning that I will almost definitely require a nap this afternoon, but otherwise, am around!]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Yeah, Kaylee had been reduced to her skivvies almost immediately upon getting to work today.

The sad bit was that, Kaylee being Kaylee, she didn't actually mind. And probably wouldn't until she had to get home.

[SP after 5 EST but otherwise aroooooound]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Finally, Kaylee had a real project. A flying car!

Sure, she had...virtually no idea where to start. But whatever, she'd figure that out as she went along. Today she was doing research on the...internet thingie.

And okay, maybe research also meant shopping for pretty underwear, too. It was just so easy to find the sites!
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee all but skipped into work today. She'd missed it, and she'd missed being around so many working things, and she had a project, sort of.

Besides, she had to weld stuff, which was why she was carefully selecting materials to work with later.

[I am in and out all day today, la]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Today, Kaylee had Projects, with a capital P. Christmas was less than a week away, after all, and as much as she was confused by the traditions on this planet and of this time, she knew gifts were necessary.

Thankfully, she could build crap really good. So today she was putting together a teeny wee little motor for...something, a schematic out in front of her.

[I will be around aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall daaaaaaaaaaay until 5 EST! God bless you, winter break.]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee knew she needed to make some Christmas presents, but she just wasn't sure how or what she wanted to make, entirely.

So Friday found her considering her list and poking around making some designs before gathering some materials to make...stuff.

[SP off and on all daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
It was a slightly hungover Kaylee who opened up the shop today. As such, she wasn't busily working on anything so much as sitting behind the counter and clinging to her coffee.

[...um, it's Twiday. SP IS THE NAME OF THE SPARKLY GAME.]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee hadn't never tended a bar before, but when she came in for a drink (she wanted one of those pink ones, with the swirly straws!) and the grumpy guy had just shrugged and told her the usual bartender had left when she tried to explain what she wanted, she'd decided she'd just have to take over for the night.

Which was how Kaylee wound up behind the bar, meticulously reading a bartender's guide and occasionally pausing to test different pink drinks she found in the book.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
There were few days when Kaylee would rather spend her day at work trying to keep her hands and face clean rather than throwing herself full-force into playing with something.

Today was one of those days. She had a party to go to, after all.

[I'm going to be AFK off and on throughout the day, whee, so SP for realz.]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee had a Project.

Having finished the cell phone thingamajiggie for Mr. Stark, she had been inspired earlier this week.

And so now she was making a present. Whether it would be a Christmas present or just a 'Hey, you're awesome and so is your dog!' present would really depend on how quick she finished it.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee kind of couldn't wait for her shift to be over, as much as she loved her job. Between her nap and all the candy she'd already had, she was practically bouncing off the walls today.

And it was especially noticeable because she was wearing antennae.

By some act of Fandom, the weather was behaving itself. Any clouds or rain the weather forecasters had blathered about on the news seemed to have skipped over the entirety of Fandom Island. It was a perfect afternoon in October, just the right temperature in which to spend the day outside with pleasant company. Or even relatives.

A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a bright banner announcing the start of a hopefully calm weekend:
Welcome to Parents Weekend 2008

It was supposed to be Brooke who opened Caritas today, all part of her new job. Unfortunately for Brooke, her twin sister Jaina had attempted to kill her while she was suffering from a rare tropical disease.

Unfortunately for Jaina, she hadn't actually killed Brooke, who was now just comatose in the clinic, so the fact that she was opening up Caritas and telling a mustachioed Tino that she was Brooke in order to steal her new perfect life might come back to bite her. Just maybe.

[Omg yay SOW! I'm around, though I'll be slow for linkgrabbing. Done! Catching up and playing now!]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Not, just because Kaylee was looking forward to the dance to a somewhat manic degree did not mean that she was going to shirk her responsibilities.

Which was why she'd turned up at work to put the finishing touches on Mr. Stark's phone, bringing along her own little comm to demonstrate if anyone asked her to.

And okay maybe she was also mentally trying to think of something to do with her hair that wouldn't look bad.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
After going to class and checking out the club fair, Kaylee rushed to work and pretended she hadn't been late at all.

It was kind of difficult, considering she couldn't stop oohing and ahhing at how nice it looked now, but still! She tried!
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee didn't know exactly what was going on, but she knew enough to realize that maybe all these new people weren't precisely the sort she liked making friends with, necessarily.

So, it was a slightly worried Kaylee who was tucked back behind the counter, clutching her biggest wrench just in case.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
The book that Kaylee had handwavily checked out of the library had looked to be an interesting one, focusing on the inner workings of aircraft engines from 1975 to the present. A bit like ancient history to her, really, but to be fair, it wasn't something she'd studied and if she was gonna be stuck here, she needed to get as familiar with the tech as possible.

Of course, she wasn't exactly disappointed when her little book suddenly turned into a mewling, tiny kitten splotted with engine grease and determined to crawl inside anything mechanical it could find. "Don't you get stuck, now!" Kaylee scolded, wondering with books-turned-kitties actually ate.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
After her class, Kaylee'd taken a quick shower before running to open the store. Kaylee being Kaylee, her hair was not only still wet, but actually sticking up.

She thought she looked fine.

Stark Industries was open.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
In a rare burst of productivity not pertaining to machines, Kaylee was poring over books. Cookbooks, actually. She didn't know too many recipes from this time, though really, in 500 years, nothing much had changed, and even if some of the words were hard, she was determined to familiarize herself with them.

She'd be delighted to help anyone who needed something fixed, though.

[I suck and the only reason I even remembered the post was because I saw [livejournal.com profile] suit_of_awesome's OOC note and remembered that it is, in fact, Friday. I'll be home from work at a semi-reasonable time though, hopefully, so the SP shouldn't be too awful!]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee was fully aware that there was a whole new section of the island to explore. That said, she was also aware that summer was dying down, and that it'd soon be too cold to really enjoy the parts of the island she already knew.

Which was why Wednesday afternoon found her getting some sun in her shiny new swimsuit. And because this is Kaylee, "getting some sun" did not involve lounging and tanning and reading a book so much as meticulously building a sandcastle that she could probably actually fit in herself. She was about halfway done, and she was just grateful she'd thought to bring her tools, honestly, because she had all kinds of ideas for acoutrements.

[open beach is open! this post is the product of me going "Omg that is the Kaylee-est bikini I've ever seen. I must post with it at some point," yes. because seriously. and yes it always said Serenity Cove and it never said ANYWHERE THAT DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE.]
[identity profile] not-ironmaiden.livejournal.com
After the kid from yesterday's insistence on the security being simple, Tony decided a few up-grades couldn't hurt.

Especially to Jarvis. He was being far too smug about things in a way he never originally programed the A.I. for.

Tony was torn between proud and alarmed.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
After her class, Kaylee scampered in and brightly opened the shop, and instead of finding something to tinker with, she was reading a book on Australia.

What? She didn't think some of these critters were actually real, that's all.

[I'm trapped at work ALL DAY so SP OMG]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Today, Kaylee had music. Not, mind you, particularly good music, but very bouncy stuff.

She was trying to find the melody and sing along as she poked at the engine-y thing she'd found in the junkyard, thinking that it might not be such a good idea to be dancing with it if she was going to break out her blowtorch like she was thinking.

[maaaaaaaaaaajor bouts of SP after 5 EST.]
[identity profile] gameknowsgame.livejournal.com
When you had money and were creative you could make parties happen anywhere. Blair had both money and creativity in spades, and thus her party was born.

It was an Antarctic theme so there was ice aplenty. Blocks of it were used to make tables and chairs (with blankets and cushions on them - Blair would suffer for fabulousness but there was no reason to willingly give yourself frostbite). Slabs of ice made up the bar and the tables for food. Carefully placed lights helped to show off what was available. All in all the end effect was something not unlike this. The only thing that wasn't as icy was the floor, because much though Blair would find it amusing to watch people fall down, it ran the risk of her pretty decorations being destroyed.

There was dance music playing and a space for dancing if anyone was inclined. There were plenty of extra blankets for anyone who hadn't dressed warmly enough to avoid a chill, or just wanted an excuse to cuddle. There were also tables set up in booth-like formations for those who wanted to sit and chat without being in the middle of the flow. One table had its own bar, extra thick and comfy pillows on the chairs, and luxurious blankets to help stay warm. No prize for guessing that this was the table Blair had claimed.

[ooc - OCD is up! C'mon in!]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee didn't mind working on a holiday (even one she only kinda sorta knew of) because truth be told, this was how she'd spend it anyway, given her druthers.

So she was there, carefully putting the finishing touches on Lucas' ball polisher.

Hee. Ball polisher.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee did not actually have anything to keep her hands busy today. So, she was restlessly tapping her fingers along the counter, and finally settled on the idea of shining up her tools.

So that was what she'd be doing today, since she didn't have nothing to work on. She'd have to fix that.

[up eeeeeearly 'cause tomorrow is moving day for me, but I'll be around mid-afternoonish!]

Town Hall, All Day

As soon as Zoe heard Hades' announcement, she headed to Town Hall.

Actually, the first thing she did was let out a string of profanity that would have made Mal blush, and if Grace picked any of it up later, she would only have herself to blame. Then she took Grace, promising John they'd be safe, and headed to Town Hall. She handwavily contacted the others in charge on the way, and started working on a plan for how to take care of Hades. At the moment, the plan involved a lot of violence on her part.

[Please obey the OCD!]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee'd slept funny the night before -- not because of anything on her mind, but because she just couldn't get comfy.

As a result, when she opened the shop today, she found herself randomly picking up a small part from a car -- she recognized it from class, but couldn't name it -- and poke at it to see what she could modify with half her mind on it.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Today Kaylee was making something not involving machinery. Well, not directly.

She had some yarn, a few fake flowers, and a few little cocktail umbrellas. Not that she was admitting it to anyone yet, but she was totally making little hats for the robots. They weren't real cheerful, in her opinion. Course, she didn't exactly know where some of their little heads were, but she'd figure it out.

Stark Industries, in the meantime, was open.

[and I will be at work in the morning and then a movie and errands in the afternoon, so pings shall be slow until eveningtimes!]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee loved her job, she did. But today she was bouncing somewhat antsily while she fiddled with a little universal remote she'd found, wanting to see if she could change the settings so it'd work on other things. She knew there was a thingie later that night, you see, and it was at the beach on that island and she was just awful excited to get off the island for a little while.

She'd heard there were gonna be dolphins! Which she, frankly, thought were extinct along with the whales. (Not that she knew what either one really looked like. But still!)

Stark Industries, however, was totally open, and she would be delighted to help anyone who needed it.
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee had found a thing! And okay, she wasn't rightly sure what it was, but it had parts and she could poke at it and maybe build something new.

Ah, the joys of discovering a new planet's technology.

[I have taken myself to see Sex and the City, since no one will come with me omgwtf people, and will be back midafternoon to pick up pings!]
[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com
Kaylee had a job! She was still so proud of herself, and even prouder as she headed in for her very first shift.

And if she was cheerfully poking about and seeing what she could find to tinker with in her downtime, well, can't fault a girl for being curious. 'Specially since she was still getting used to the tech and the tools. Any exploring was for educational purposes, like.
[identity profile] not-ironmaiden.livejournal.com
Whoever thought it had been a good idea to send all of his things in boxes was just the stupidest person Tony had ever met.

Really.

How was he supposed to find everything?

"Pepper, yeah hi, can you do me the smallest favour and tell me which box has my tools in it?" A beat. "I am aware of that--" Another beat as he opened one of the boxes, phone pinned between his ear and shoulder. "--oh please, I am not that helpless."

[[Shop is closed, but door isn't locked in case there are curious gawkers to demean]]
[identity profile] enginegirl.livejournal.com
Kaylee was just a wee bit more cheerful than usual. It might have something to do with the fact that there are a lot of new people on the island. Some might even stop by the store today. Of course, she'd be available to help anyone who might need it.

Empire was open.

Veronica was still running on nerves and caffeine when she got to work. She was grateful to see Tino was back from wherever he'd been, though he snorted at her when she asked if he'd had a nice vacation.

Aaron hadn't appeared to her again since Anakin chased him off. She was hoping that was a good sign, even though Piper hadn't been able to help her.
