Class had been interesting in a nice, relaxed way today, so all things considered Jen was as mellow as a totally-suppressing-the-mope girl could be when not thinking about Homecoming. Which, being a skill she'd honed rather nicely, made for a very convincing appearance of uptight non-mopery (shh, totally allowed to make up words). She was missing the carnival, and planning to go hide out in her ship for most of the weekend, and she was FINE WITH THAT, REALLY.

Of course, getting to work and being hit in the face with the warm damp smell of fungus took her mind off the total non-mopery rly pretty quickly -- as did the rapidly ensuing relief that no, they were not suddenly bait for a health code violation. Nothing that bad, just that the pizza parlor had apparently sprouted mushrooms. Criminis covering the counter, buttons blossoming in the booths, shiitakes sprouting in the storage closet.

. . . well then. Jen shrugged, turned the sign on the door to "Closed," and got to harvesting. Her cleanup routine took a little longer than usual, but by the time she was done and flipped the sign back to "Open" again, the place -- front door propped wide open -- looked as good as new. All that odd-jobs work back in Silver Hills had been good for a few useful life skills after all, go figure.

Wild Mushroom Pizza
(No, really. It's kind of wild.)

Overnight, a series of tents, booths and vendors have cropped up in the park. The smell of cotton candy was in the air and cheerful music could be heard across the island. There was a lot of space and lots of places to sit down and take a load off.

There were rides, games and tons and tons of food.

The Homecoming Carnival was open!

OCD is up! Go forth and play! Carnival is open to EVERYONE. Second post is here!

Ferris Wheel

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com
And even more carnival fun!

OCD is up! Play away! First post is here. Oh, paperwork error people, please assume there is now a BIG OLE sign that says your name and which booth you're at. Said sign cannot be missed!

Ella would have been grumbly about missing most of the carnival in favor of work -- she was going to take a long lunch break to look around, anyhow -- but she set that aside in favor of a different irritation when she got to the diner.

"Why is everything covered with bacon?"

The kitchen staff just shrugged.

Ella sighed and set to gathering the bacon off the tables, placing it on enormous platters and hoping the store's fans would blow the scent into the street and draw in customers.

Today's Special
Eat your weight in bacon

Homecoming! People were coming back and she had a dres and there was a carnival today and Rikku was trying not to be hyper. Trying.

Maybe her boss would let her off early if she said super-extra-please?

Viki, if pressed, would concede that she wasn’t entirely sure of where the days to most of this week had gone, but nonetheless had made it to work.

And, after all, it wasn’t as if time and time itself were all that important. She didn’t mind missing a few days and being unaware of where they’d gone. (She did hope, however, that they’d had fun with whomever they’d gone missing to.)

Either way, Viki was humming as she amused herself by organizing shelves of inventory today.

Strokes of Genius is Open.

Mary was in a really good mood as she settled into the front desk for her shift. She'd spent the first night in her very own brand new suite and she liked it. Not that the presidential suite had been bad, but it was great to have a place to call home.

The guest register was out on the front desk and she had everyone's keys ready. There were still plenty of rooms available, enough that Mary was wondering if they even needed the whole second floor of the hotel. Maybe she could turn that space into an extra ballroom one day.

[You can see room assignments here, and there are still rooms available if anyone wants to change rooms.]

Normally (at least according the pattern that seemed to be developing) Eliza would have opened the shop herself yesterday instead of today. Since she'd been apprised of the dance this weekend, however, she'd decided to keep the place shut on Thursday and spend the time preparing a variety of bouquets and corsages for those who hadn't thought ahead, as well as those that had actually been ordered.

She'd also removed the completely wilted violet E from the sign over the door, replacing it with one made of bright pink miniature carnations. A bit out of scale with the rest of the sign, but certainly eye-catching, she hoped.

The sign in the window today had been altered to match, and now read:

Covent Garden Flowers

Eliza Doolittle, prop.
Fresh flowers from nosegays to bouquets!
Delivery available upon request.

5% off all corsages and buttonholes. 10% off for returning graduates.

Agnes wasn't entirely sure what she'd done, but one of the pieces of merchandise had started glowing when she touched it, and now it and everything that had been on the shelf near it were bobbing and floating up near the ceiling. She'd found a stepladder and a broom and was trying to swat them down, but what she really needed was a net.
[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com
Liir was at the bookstore ridiculously early, mostly because he wanted to get everything done so he could, well, nip out for the carnival. That said, it wasn't as if he didn't clean everything, straighten things up, and man the counter quite a lot of the time.

...and the broom really made the travel very quick.

The Book Haven was open. And hopefully Millie wouldn't mind.

There was a pile of paperwork on Ray's desk he was gonna get to at some point in the not-too-distant future. He was just keeping the whole sense of surprise to it by not doing it right now. That was his story, and he was sticking to it.

"Hey!" he said, tossing a wadded-up ball of paper at the back of Ralph's head. "So how long till the, uh, next batch of weird?"

Ralph just glared at him.

"Same to you, Rick!"

Keeping with the Western theme, the town hall had been all decked out to call of the days of cowboys and cattle wrangling: strategically placed bales of straw, wagons and wagon wheels with the occasional extra axle, wood cutout of oxen and horses, and, of course, posted suggestions on how to avoid dying from dysentery. There was plenty of food and drink available, in the form of currently unspiked punch and moddable snacks, all on Westing Paper Products, in case anyone was wondering who helped supply things for the events. The dance floor was spacious, but still gave way to the usual dark corners.

Even though it was hardly Western, there was definitely no shortage of glitter all over the place.

There was also a very important table set up for homecoming court votes.

Not, just because Kaylee was looking forward to the dance to a somewhat manic degree did not mean that she was going to shirk her responsibilities.

Which was why she'd turned up at work to put the finishing touches on Mr. Stark's phone, bringing along her own little comm to demonstrate if anyone asked her to.

And okay maybe she was also mentally trying to think of something to do with her hair that wouldn't look bad.

Jenny was behind the counter at Pixie Dust, in case anyone needed a last-minute Homecoming dress. There were lots and lots of formal-type dresses, plus tuxedos and suits. And, of course, they mustn't forget new shoes.

After a while, Jenny went and yanked a dress in her size off the rack and studied it with a critical eye for a moment.

It would do.

Pixie Dust was open.

The Gig, Friday

All was quiet and peaceful at The Gig today.

If you didn't speak squirrel, that is.

After two hours of listening to them bicker, Rosie left the office, planted her hands on her hips and yelled, "Enough! Whoever this Teyla is, I'm sure she's not interested in any of you!"

Then she stormed back into the office to continue fighting with the dreaded evil of paperwork.

The Gig was open for all your horse-hiring, sick animal, metal-working needs.

Unless you were a squirrel.
[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com
As the night went on, two things were inevitable: there would be an announcement of a homecoming court and there would be alcohol slipped into the punch, if not by students, then by nefarious little gremlins (all wearing cowboy hats; they appreciate a theme as well as anyone!). But the night; ah, the night continued on with the same air of festivity that it had started with, well into the evening.

[[ more ocd on the way is up! Sorry for the lateness on #2; I was dragged out and there was Iron Man on a big pretty screen and shaking Michael Moore's big fat paw. ]]
