Sparkle? Was in a surprisingly good mood today. Their morning had been not-bad-at-all, thank you, and today seemed like as good a day as any to test-drive a singular 'they,' to see how it felt. And, you know, there were a bunch of guys today who were probably having a difficult time, so...

Here was Sparkle, showing up for a second whole day in a row to check up on the place, round up every sports bra and multi-pack of women's underwear in the shop, and put them out with a sign in the window.

Come Get Clothed-- Free Underthings and Discount Clothing to People With New Bits

Ha. There. That was Sparkle's charity for the week.

Until Wednesday. But they didn't know that yet.

Having a job was... weird.

Not, like, in a general sense. Simon was well aware that not only did many people have jobs, so did many people his own age, even many of his fellow FH students. But it was weird for him -- having a job while in high school had never really been on his radar, for a variety of reasons, not least because no one had expected it of him.

But maybe Simon was starting to be a little less afraid of bucking people's expectations.

At any rate, Simon settled into the store on Monday morning, ready and willing to help anyone who wandered in looking for clothes!

Sparkle had gotten a bit of socializing out of his system this week, which meant he actually felt mostly okay heading in to work even with guests roaming the island. He had some housekeeping he needed to take care of in case he got the call from his lawyer, anyway. Mostly month-end paperwork crap and then maybe looking into getting orders taken care of for the winter months, too.

... Yes, he was aware of how ridiculous it probably was to order winter clothes with weather like this right now, but if things came crashing down around his head, he didn't figure he'd be able to really focus on that stuff later, either. And this way he could hand-pick a nice winter coat for Hernando, because the poor sucker thought he'd be able to weather a winter in Toronto with sweaters.

That accomplished, he settled in with a sketchbook and started noodling at costume designs, feet up on the counter. It was his counter, he was allowed.

Simon had a job.

Simon still wasn't entirely clear how he'd gotten a job, except that, "Hey, I listen to vinyl!" apparently qualified him to sell the stuff, too.

Despite Jono's warning that the stereo was touchy, Simon had it up and playing E-MO-TION [link to youtube], and was grooving around to it while he wandered the store and figured out where everything was.

Ah, visitors' weekend. Full of all the delight and drama of... basically every other weekend on the island, if Jono was being completely honest. Lee had been occupied with the students and with Shogo back in New York this weekend and so she'd had to decline Jono's invitation. Which he understood. The fact that she'd declined it with a cheerful, "Get your skinny leather-clad butt back here and visit my kid, Starsmore," had helped cushion the blow, at least.

Which meant, whatever the case was, that he was working today rather than helping his vampiric best friend chase a toddler around the park at a brunch he couldn't partake in, which suited him well enough, he supposed. He'd thrown on a turtleneck sweater and a scarf in lieu of wrappings, since it was... well. Not cold enough to really warrant it yet, but not so hot that he'd flat-out die trying. He might get some odd looks, but not nearly as many as he would if someone from off-island were to walk into his shop for music to see a man on fire.

The stereo was doing... something... today, playing a bunch of sentimental garbage about family while Jono tried to ignore it and settled in to do paperwork instead.

//Should've taken Lee up on her invite.//

Sparkle came in for his shift at Pick Your Poison to find the shelves empty.

... Empty and pushed off to the sides of the shop, out of the way of what clearly looked like some serious swirly-floral floor painting efforts. Which confused him and delighted him in about equal portions for all of a minute as he looked over the work, before frowning back at the shelves.

"Uh... are we closed today?"

He had no idea. He cracked open the door to try to air out the paint smell and then went to check the back room to make certain they still had stock before sitting his ass behind the counter, looking bemused at best.

...

He had no idea if they were closed today. But the door was open?

[Open? Probably!]
