Groovy Tunes, Sunday
Ah, visitors' weekend. Full of all the delight and drama of... basically every other weekend on the island, if Jono was being completely honest. Lee had been occupied with the students and with Shogo back in New York this weekend and so she'd had to decline Jono's invitation. Which he understood. The fact that she'd declined it with a cheerful, "Get your skinny leather-clad butt back here and visit my kid, Starsmore," had helped cushion the blow, at least.
Which meant, whatever the case was, that he was working today rather than helping his vampiric best friend chase a toddler around the park at a brunch he couldn't partake in, which suited him well enough, he supposed. He'd thrown on a turtleneck sweater and a scarf in lieu of wrappings, since it was... well. Not cold enough to really warrant it yet, but not so hot that he'd flat-out die trying. He might get some odd looks, but not nearly as many as he would if someone from off-island were to walk into his shop for music to see a man on fire.
The stereo was doing... something... today, playing a bunch of sentimental garbage about family while Jono tried to ignore it and settled in to do paperwork instead.
//Should've taken Lee up on her invite.//

//Matter of fact, I do,// he replied, in that vaguely tentative tone he tended to use around folks he hadn't met before. //Smaller'n it used to be, but I still have stock in th'back, too. And a decent selection of original releases if you don't mind they're possibly second-hand and th'slips have some water damage.//
Bloody sharks.

It wasn't a judgmental tone, or particularly scared or concerned, but Simon was still getting used to all of the ways that people could be different than what he'd previously considered normal; he definitely needed confirmation for this one.
"And, uh... There were a bunch of Teenage Fanclub reissues that came out last month, and I was kinda hoping I could find Songs from Northern Britain."
no subject
//Telepath,// he offered, by way of explanation. //My mouth doesn't work so well, so unless you know sign language, it's my default, sorry.//
There was another pause, and then he blinked and leaned his head back slightly.
//Teenage Fanclub, hm?// Jono nodded a little. //Saw those on my order forms, let's see if I wound up ordering th'one you want or not...//
Last month had been a little... much. Jono honestly wasn't sure what the hell he'd ordered in last month. But he was pulling himself to his feet, paperwork gleefully abandoned, as he made his way over to their modest selection of vinyl.
//If we don't have it,// he noted, //I can get it. Won't take a week, really. Delivery here's nothing if not surprisingly reliable.//

He followed Jono over to the vinyl, resolutely avoiding thinking about how much he money he'd probably end up spending in this store. "I'd really appreciate that," he added, "and maybe I'll think about some other things I could order in." He stopped and considered for a moment. "... Are you able to check other worlds for releases?" he asked. "Like, if my Earth didn't have any good-quality reissues of something, could you see if other Earths did?"
no subject
//I can,// he replied, leaning over and rifling through the selection before giving a saitsfied nod of his head and pulling an album out from the ones there. //Only ordered one in, but it is in. What were you hoping to find a better issue of, mate?//

//I'll see what I can do,// he replied. //No promises, but hell, for all I know there's an entire reality where all music is Elliott Smith.//
All of it, throughout time.

"There are worlds like that?" he asked. On the one hand, yeah, other music was great -- it would be weird to have a reality without the
hotnessgenius that was Brendon Urie. On the other hand... An entire reality of Elliott Smith music sounded amazing.Maybe for a visit.

He used to have so much more stock. Damn you, digital streaming.

"I really appreciate that," Simon said, eyes going a little starry at the sheer possibilities of the music he might be able to get his hands on now. Even if most of it was stuff he wouldn't be able to share at home -- there was just no way to explain how he'd come across, like, new Elliott Smith music, or anything like that, outside of Fandom.
"Oh, uh, I'm Simon," he added. "Simon Spier. I guess you need my phone number or something, in case you can find that XO vinyl."
no subject
He paused a moment before adding, //So, you from a few years back, or just have a healthy appreciation for vinyl, mate?//

Break his heart, kids. Go on. Break it. It was gone anyway.

He... hoped it was clear he was teasing.

He took the Teenage Fanclub LP, looking around the store when something else caught his eye. "Oh, hey, you have Emotion! I've been meaning to pick that up."
... Now. He'd been meaning to pick that up now. He felt a little more comfortable having that in his collection, now that he didn't have to try to explain it to any of the people back home who might give him shit over it, no matter how loving or well-meaning.

He... may have had a text from his mother asking about the charge on his debit card at the CIC, the other day, on top of the other things he'd been buying. Not that he was in trouble, precisely, but she'd said some things about wanting to make sure he was thinking about his purchases, and that she hoped he was taking care with his money while he was away.

//Well,// he noted, //we do offer an employee discount...//
Hello, Simon. Meet the devil on your shoulder. Fire and all.
no subject
That really, really wasn't a no, Jono.

//You like vinyl. Resume accepted.//
... He was not hard to please when it came to this place, that Jono.
//Can you count money, work a till, help people find things? You don't even need to know instruments, though it doesn't hurt.//

"When would you want me to start?"
no subject
//Tomorrow?//
Jon, you were a dick.
no subject
... And could be a bit of a dick himself.
"Tomorrow sounds, uh, good," Simon said, not entirely sure how he'd ended up in this situation. "... Does that mean I get the employee discount today?"
no subject
A pause. //And I might keep all the XO for myself.//
He knew how to hit where it hurt.
no subject
no subject
Yeah. That warranted a warning all on its own.

This was Fandom. Simon wasn't going to make any assumptions.

Text from Kaidan
Re: Text from Kaidan
//I'll pass th'message along, mate. Hope your weekend improves.//
And, hey, might as well pass Kaidan's message on to Breq the same way. Sometimes it was just convenient to be a telepath.
