Luke's, Sunday

Kanan had been contemplating blowing off work today. After all, if 'having your dead Master come to visit for a couple of days' wasn't a valid reason to not come in to work, he really didn't know what was. But Master Billaba had insisted, pointing out that in taking this job, he'd made a commitment to be here. And also because she wanted to see what he did with himself these days.

So, there was an extra person at Luke's today, sitting back and looking mostly amused while Kanan navigated the diner, and occasionally raising an eyebrow at the busboy as he speculated about what sort of relationship the two of them might have had.

Welcome to Luke's!
Two Eat for the Price of One, Today!

If by the end of the day the busboy was starting to wonder who kept throwing wadded-up napkins at the back of his head when there was never anybody behind him who possibly could, well, nobody was going to admit to that, okay?

Very little had happened after the last battle last night, and so Obi-Wan had been loath to ask the last strike team to put themselves in mortal danger. Perhaps the anchoring theory was wrong, and they had done little besides rid the island of two dangerous creatures.

Not a terrible end in and of itself, but... disappointing.

But the morning brought a stark difference. As Obi-Wan stepped outside, he found himself squinting against the rays of a feeble but present sun, hovering low in the sky above a thinner fog.

The island had not changed back. The buildings had not begun to recover, and there was still the shadow of a hollow staggering around in the streets not far away. But there was a sun shining in the sky. "Well," he said, "I suppose this is as good a sign as any."

[[ open! yep, the sun's back. ]]

Most of the information they had found was circumstantial, at best: rumors about what might have happened, strange reports that could mean anything about what caused this. But from it had arisen one potential path, the destruction of whatever anchored this place here - though whether it was an anchor that held their island tied to this, or an anchor that held this island tied to its doom, Obi-Wan couldn't say.

Regardless, it was time. He made his way to town square after spending some time urging people to come there. Just to make sure, he raised his voice. "May I have your attention?" he called.

And waited. A bit.

"I'm sorry if I am being presumptuous. My name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I am... newly here. I, and several of our people, have spent some time researching the current state of the island." Yes. That. "We have identified two creatures that may be involved in powering our current circumstances. Therefore, we find it credible that removing these creatures may at the very least improve our circumstances some."

He couldn't make any promises, here.

"If you are willing to volunteer to take on a flying man vulnerable to electricity, and an easily-distractable... thing... out in town, please do report to me." Beat. "And Principal Zoe? I would like to speak with you as well."

He stepped away from the rock he'd stood on, straightened his robe, and waited.

Plus side: when Anakin woke up in his office, he knew where he was.

Minus side: He had no idea what he was doing in a teacher's office and so bolted out of there before Principal Washburn could discover him. He went into town for recon--he couldn't feel the people he normally could, and it was really, really bothering him.

Lightsaber at his hip, Padawan braid over his shoulder and a pinched look on his face, Anakin stalked through the park and ended up at the coffee shop where he demanded coffee: black. Like his mood.

Where had the staff come from? Nobody knew. But sometime at six in the morning, a group of people arrived in the park and immediately spread out over the premises, constructing a bunch of nondescript stands at a rapid pace. They set out cheap soft drinks on the picnic tables, put up some large banners, cleaned the place up and scared off a few errant flamingoes.

By seven, they had once again dispersed.

A new Friday, a new change of scenery. Tamsin had hoped for somewhere else that stocked booze, but thankfully, she'd had the foresight of getting a whole bunch of it from the Restaurant before they moved this morning.

It was Friday evening, and Mobius's sun hung low in the sky, but it was warm, and there were birds chirping as they flew past Fandom's dome. Perfect atmosphere or whatever. There were large, glittery umbrellas dotting the sand for effect, a bunch of chairs and tables arranged just a few feet away from the sandy parts of the beach, and a few grills were cooking away meat and veggies for the incoming guests.

Fandom beach party. This would definitely end well.

All good (or traumatizing, or simply downright strange) things had to end. Some time after the sun had begun to dip down behind the horizon, a portal swirled back into existence in the park. It sent its call out quietly, understandable only on a certain frequency - but it was compelling and unstoppable.

It was time for the possible-children of Fandom to return home.

Come say your goodbyes.

Ah, it felt so good to be wearing something that wasn't beige. Or taupe. Seriously, whoever lived in that shack badly needed a life.

But by noon Obi-Wan had managed to pick up a band t-shirt and some leather pants, and with a giant cup of stomach-burning caf in his hands, he was doing pretty good now. Even if he still didn't have any idea where Maul had run off to. He sat down by the pond, cupping his warm coffee, and squinted at the flamingoes.

"I'm sick of pink, too," he told them. It didn't leave much of an impression, so he hit them with a mild mind whammy and watched them flutter away.

Ah, weird weekends. Weird, weird weekends. Sparkle would have been more worked up about the whole thing if not for the fact that Atton's counterpart seemed to have an... at least passably level head on his shoulders. Probably wasn't going to go running around the island causing mayhem or anything like that, anyway. That was reassuring, to a degree, and it would probably all be over soon enough. It usually was.

Anyway, he still had a job to do, so he was at work today, trying to coax tiny, tiny horses down from some of the taller shelves.

"If you crap on those sweaters, I swear to god I'll send you all to the glue factory."

Thanks, Fandom.

Hope you packed all your raptor-proof clothing, kids! It's another semester, another trip, and the school wasn't responsible for providing you with anti-raptor gear. So.

Atton was the first to arrive on the scene, which annoyed him to no end. He sat his luggage down, sat down on the luggage, and looked around.

Right. Time to assemble, kids.

The chances of Atton achieving anything remotely resembling a good mood were pretty much zero at the moment. Below zero, in fact.

So when he stepped outside the MCA that morning and watched a bunch of zombie gremlins shambling towards him, he just sighed. "I don't want to deal with this today," he said.

The zombies didn't seem terribly impressed by that, so he lit his lightsaber with a snap-hiss. "No, seriously," he said. "I really, really, really don't want to deal with this today--"

The past day and night had passed as if they were a dream - once the original awkwardness had gone, his relationship with Satine was more or less what it had been before. Joking, sometimes adversarial, and balanced firmly between comfortable and quite the opposite.

They no longer had the restrictions the Order had asked of Obi-Wan, but he had not pushed past those old boundaries. This was short, and fleeting, and his life laid in the service of something else now.

That didn't mean that when morning came, they couldn't go down to the Perk for cups of tea and some pastries and enjoy a lovely breakfast. Obi-Wan's expressions had become looser, and a smile had even escaped him once or twice. Satine had already come thawed, but she seemed rather fond of the situation, now, as well.

"Please avoid the rooibos, my dear," Obi-Wan said. "It's an easy way to find yourself craving... well, just about any other beverage."

"I believe I will survive," Satine said, her mouth quirking. "As I said, I prefer to discover these things for myself."

So, everyone had hopefully been notified, and now they were gathered and gathering, and Bob waited as long as he could for them to arrive before he stepped up to the front of the room and set off a burst of golden light to get their attention.

"Thank you all for coming." He projected his voice around the room. "In case you hadn't noticed, there's a lot of bad magic out there," he said dryly. If anyone hadn't noticed, he worried about them. "We've been looking into it, and we've tracked down the source, and if you listened to radio yesterday you know it's Needful Things and Leland Gaunt. He's been selling cursed items, often for the price of special or magical items in turn. What's new is that we've found out how to break his hold."

He paused very briefly for dramatic effect to let that sink in. "In order for someone who's got a cursed item to be free of the curse, they have to destroy the item." He stared around the room seriously. "THEY have to destroy it," he reiterated. "If anyone else breaks it for them, they will wither and die. If they don't break it, they will wither and die."

He leaned forward. "This is a very nasty breed of curse, rather like a poison. It's insidious. It will take them a lot of energy to break it, and it's going to hurt. They'll be weakened. You'll probably want to get them to the clinic. Also, because it operates on a psychic level, their recovery will be influenced by their mood. They'll need positive reinforcement, reassurance. 'Hug it out', as the saying goes."

Whatever. At least he wouldn't have to do that part. "Now, we know of a few people who've been sold cursed items. We've gone through radio broadcasts to get a list of everyone who was spotted entering the store. We'll need help to cover them all and make sure everyone has someone to try to snap them out of it. If you're willing to help, raise your hand and Four here can match you with someone. Any questions?"

JGOB- Saturday morning

As far as Jaina could remember she hadn't been back here since homecoming, which was probably reason enough to come back for the weekend. Sometimes you needed a couple days to get away from your ridiculous problems.

So she got to JGOB, ordered coffee and got a table by the window, where she sent out the usual "I'm here" text to anyone who might care. And then she got out her datapad to make sure nothing had exploded back home since she got here. Look, it was a very real possibility.

Life on Fandom was beginning to ease; Obi-Wan suspected his increasingly warmer detente with Anakin was part of it, but the truth was he was simply... settling in. The community was small, which had its drawbacks (though none quite as enormous as what he had experienced at first on Tatooine) but also its virtues.

For example, the fact he did not even have to place his order. The barista gave him a glass and a large container of hot water, and within minutes he was back at his regular spot, soaking his tea in the container.

As per habit now, he sat there quietly for the next few hours, watching.

Tea at the Perk on Wednesday mornings was becoming a bit of a habit.

It was not one Obi-Wan regretted; it was a change from his usual self-enforced solitude in the woods. He didn't want to do this too often, as he feared getting too acclimated to the hustle and bustle of the city again, but once a week was an indulgence he could afford.

So by noon he had arrived and ordered his cup of Earl Grey tea, and sat at the window. There was a couple outside arguing about one thing or another, and a delivery boy that kept walking up and down the street. That was the Living Force as well, he supposed. Master Qui-Gon would have approved.

Obi-Wan had intended to make a habit of it, but with the eels coming down last week... well, sometimes it couldn't be helped. There was no sea-life charging the streets today, however, and poor weather wasn't about to keep him from anything. Especially not now that the eopie shelter was finished and both Rooh and her child were safe and warm, inside.

He took a sip of his tea. Earl Grey, yes, Anakin, you were right about it and he was never, ever telling you that because that could only end poorly. He chatted with the baristas - while attempting to maintain some distance just in case he'd blunder into the same trap as he had on Tatooine - and kept his eye on the window, near which he'd been seated.

The island was a fine enough place to be, even if a large part of him was still certain he deserved no more than Tatooine's dry emptiness.

"Let's do something normal!" Anakin said in a voice that sounded nothing like Obi-Wan's, making a face as his lightsaber sliced through a kriffing flying eel. "Let's go see a movie! Nothing weird will be zooming around the island with their own kriffing anti-grav units trying to eat us or mate with us or whatever the frell these things want."

Another eel shrieked as it launched itself at Anakin's ankles. "Oh, shut up," he snapped at it.

Anakin had really wanted to see the latest movie about the short people and the dragon, okay?

This second Wednesday marked the first time Obi-Wan had felt anywhere near settled on this island. Perhaps it was because - outside of minor disputes in class - he and Anakin hadn't really had an encounter since Friday. But frankly, he wasn't here to think about that. Rather, he was looking for a distraction.

He settled into a seat at the Perk with a nice cup of tea. He'd picked a bag at random; tea flavors were both similar and entirely different on every planet he landed on, and he wouldn't make a fuss about it until he figured out which ones were actually drinkable.

So far, this one was fine. He drank it slowly, as he wasn't exactly in a hurry. Fandom's locals were almost all human, but they were still an interesting crowd. Sitting here allowed him the opportunity to people-watch. As the day went on, he found himself ordering subsequent cups, at least until he found a flavor that was completely and utterly terrible.
