The Perk, Sunday Morning
The past day and night had passed as if they were a dream - once the original awkwardness had gone, his relationship with Satine was more or less what it had been before. Joking, sometimes adversarial, and balanced firmly between comfortable and quite the opposite.
They no longer had the restrictions the Order had asked of Obi-Wan, but he had not pushed past those old boundaries. This was short, and fleeting, and his life laid in the service of something else now.
That didn't mean that when morning came, they couldn't go down to the Perk for cups of tea and some pastries and enjoy a lovely breakfast. Obi-Wan's expressions had become looser, and a smile had even escaped him once or twice. Satine had already come thawed, but she seemed rather fond of the situation, now, as well.
"Please avoid the rooibos, my dear," Obi-Wan said. "It's an easy way to find yourself craving... well, just about any other beverage."
"I believe I will survive," Satine said, her mouth quirking. "As I said, I prefer to discover these things for myself."

Obi-Wan looked thoughtful.
"...Extract from a particularly red plant, I'm given to understand."

She was an expert in the field of small talk.
She was not entirely certain how much longer she could keep it up without screaming.

"Obi-Wan," she said, and then she slid her hands over to cover his. "Please. Stop."

He'd been aware he'd been talking simply to fill up space, of course.
Without that steady stream of nonsense to support it, his face fell immediately. "I'm sorry," he said, and turned his hands so he could hold hers properly.

"I failed you," he said. "And I miss you more than words can say. But I truly do not want to linger on it for too long."
It made him uncomfortable, just for one.

"I'm hardly suggesting we sit here and wallow in it until it is time for me to go," Satine said, her heart clenching - though it wasn't noticeable on her face. "But we can talk about it, at least."
