The Perk, Sunday Morning

The past day and night had passed as if they were a dream - once the original awkwardness had gone, his relationship with Satine was more or less what it had been before. Joking, sometimes adversarial, and balanced firmly between comfortable and quite the opposite.

They no longer had the restrictions the Order had asked of Obi-Wan, but he had not pushed past those old boundaries. This was short, and fleeting, and his life laid in the service of something else now.

That didn't mean that when morning came, they couldn't go down to the Perk for cups of tea and some pastries and enjoy a lovely breakfast. Obi-Wan's expressions had become looser, and a smile had even escaped him once or twice. Satine had already come thawed, but she seemed rather fond of the situation, now, as well.

"Please avoid the rooibos, my dear," Obi-Wan said. "It's an easy way to find yourself craving... well, just about any other beverage."

"I believe I will survive," Satine said, her mouth quirking. "As I said, I prefer to discover these things for myself."

"...It is rather an interesting drink," Satine said, several minutes later, as she gingerly set the glass back down.

"A red plant," Satine echoed dubiously. "I see."

She was an expert in the field of small talk.

She was not entirely certain how much longer she could keep it up without screaming.

Satine touched her forehead briefly. She sighed.

"Obi-Wan," she said, and then she slid her hands over to cover his. "Please. Stop."

"This is difficult," Satine said quietly. "And unfair. But there is no point in flitting about from subject to subject like a moth darting from flame to flame, besides numbing what little time we have."

Time hadn't made Obi-Wan any less difficult, had it?

"I'm hardly suggesting we sit here and wallow in it until it is time for me to go," Satine said, her heart clenching - though it wasn't noticeable on her face. "But we can talk about it, at least."
