Gregorith had heard through the handwavy grapevine that there were new students, so on the off chance they wandered his way, he made doubly sure that the museum's maps and brochures and the like were where they were supposed to be.

He had walked to work disguised but once he'd gotten himself situated he decided to drop it. Unfortunately the possibility that he might scare them put him on edge and so he had on his resting stab face.

The trip home had been refreshing. And exhausting. When he lived there he could space out socializing, but he'd had to cram all the visits and hang outs and get-togethers into one week and as much as he loved Bel, Lily, Sharkie, his mother and sister, Lucifer and even Asmodeus it had all been a lot.

So after a meeting with Lucifer and the other head deities, determining that a continuing presence here in Fandom would be useful, it had been a bit of a relief to get back to his quiet townhouse.

Even if the cold was uncomfortable.

Maybe some time in the butterfly room would do him good.

The reasons for the disguise were somewhat muddied at this point, but Gregorith still normally felt more comfortable when out and about with it on. Today he was amused by the notion of a big scary demon wearing a snuggie so he decided to forgo the disguise.

Though he was wearing it backwards because he just found it easier to do things that way.

There was cocoa and coffee in case people needed help warming up if/when they came in.

Gregorith didn't think twice about the tree that he found in the lobby when he came in, assuming it was just part of the seasonal decoration. After he had settled in for the day, he contemplated it though. Deciding it needed a little something.

Sure the tinkling sparkles were nice but lights on a tree just weren't enough were they. So he went hunting in the storeroom and went to work adding some color.

"There. That's ridiculous. I'm sure Sharkie would be proud." And Bel would possibly be appalled. Asmodeus would be very amused, which Gregorith could be grouchy about. Win win.

The tree was now decorated with fabric swatches. The star at the top was made of paint color samples stapled together. He took pictures to send back home and then immediately started second guessing his choices. Especially the color sample star. Maybe that was too much.

The museum is open.

It was a busy time of year in work and out. At the moment Steven was combining the two, as Blathers had asked him to take care of sending something to the various vendors they used to wish them a happy holidays.

Which in turn had Steven grateful he'd already done his shopping for gifts for Blathers and Gregorith.

On top of that, Hanukkah was next week and there was a chance Steven and Llewellyn would be out of town for the bulk of it. As such Steven was busy making sure everything was taken care of just to be safe. He didn't want to leave Gregorith feeling like he'd been burdened with extra work during the holidays after all.

Steven was very busy behind the Welcome Desk, but interruptible for visitors of course.

The unexpected arrival of a polar bear(!) in the museum startled Gregorith. It startled him. And it concerned him. He would freely admit to being afraid if he was afraid but he wasn't. Yet.

He dropped his disguise, much the same way a red panda might rear up to appear larger.

The polar bear blinked at him.

Gregorith stared.

The polar bear stared.

Then the polar bear extended a paw and offered him a bottle of coke.

"Oh. Uh, thanks."

Steven was running late that morning. Literally, as he ran to the museum to get there on time. In what was perhaps some sort of miracle or kindness of fate, he didn't manage to trip and spill his tea along the way. Instead he got behind the Welcome Desk, put his cup down safely...

...and then knocked his bag onto the floor, spilling the contents everywhere.

Steven sighed. "At least it wasn't the tea?"

He got down on his hands and knees behind the desk to pick up all his items. Or at least what he could find. Hopefully he didn't lose his favorite pencil.

Gregorith's sense of time had gotten a little out of wack by his estimation since coming here. And it wasn't the concept of the work week, or even set months that was irking him this morning, it was the deadline regarding holiday shopping.

His circle people had expanded recently with the addition of Lily and Sharkie, and now had increased again with Steven, and maybe Jon. And when you lived in a place outside of time, that gave you plenty of time to figure out, and acquire gifts for people.

His habit had been to make or commission something, as they also lived in a place where it was so easy to get things you wanted for yourself.

All of this was to say that Gregorith was a bit distractinated at work today, poring over lists of gift ideas and stressing if he had enough time to finish any crafty things.

But the museum was open.

Mortal geography was not Gregorith's best subject so he'd never even heard of some the countries represented in the Miss World...No, Miss Universe competition. (that somewhat confused him but he supposed that was something they'd have to work out when they met aliens) And even the ones he did know, he didn't understand the cultural significance of some of their costumes. But that didn't stop him from scrolling through the pictures, occasionally actually exclaiming,

"Oh cool!"

He was especially impressed with the headdresses. As someone with horns, who had occasionally endured "your neck muscles must be so strong!" from beings without them, he respected the poise it must take to wear such a thing.

And yeah he may be occasionally trying to sketch out a Fandom inspired headdress. Costume design wasn't his thing so who knew if he'd get it right.

Winter holidays were just around the corner, so Steven was busy researching ideas for new things the Museum could do to educate and celebrate the season.

He found himself looking up the museums back home. And then getting distracted because the V&A had a rather interesting lesson on accessibility coming up soon. He wondered if perhaps he and Llewellyn could pop by while it was happening...

Gregorith was feeling so much better. He could breathe, he was no longer in pain, though he still had a horrific sounding cough so he was still wearing a mask. Other demons (Asmodeus) might still have been convalescing at this stage of a cold, but Gregorith was a workaholic dedicated professional so here he was.

And a bit confused. He didn't know that some of the island residents had gone wee tiny so he wasn't certain why the exhibit hall seemed to have converted itself to what appeared to be a life size, walk through diorama of a forest with helpful and colorful signs saying what all the trees and plants were, and statues of local fauna, also with signs.

There was also a facsimile woah I spelled that right the first time of the school and the lighthouse that kids could crawl around in. Oh and a cave with a slide.

Actually he was a bit jealous that he was too tall to play in there.

Also an arts and crafts station had appeared in the gallery upstairs.

Thursday found Steven at his usual spot behind the Welcome Desk. He'd unearthed an old binder of Blathers' about events on the island that were from years ago.

Currently Steven was reading up on something about a zombie invasion which happened two decades prior.

Steven couldn't help but imagine what it would be like to get caught in something like that. Assuming he ever was caught in something like that instead of someone else taking his job for some reason.

Preposterous idea, really. Who would even think of such a thing?

Steven continued his reading, though of course he was interruptible should anyone need him.

Gregorith spent the morning looking at the event specific exhibits. He found it interesting that Fandom had been a high school for quite a while, before becoming a university, and it brought back memories of the equivalent of Homecoming back home.

He was just beginning his emo goth phase then, if he recalled correctly.

Then he settled behind the desk in the lobby with his sketch pad, trying to expand on some of his pottery ideas. He was kind of warming up to the idea of a bird bath, with maybe a lounging Cthulhu.

Today, in between helping any visitors what needed it, Gregorith was spending most of his time up in the art gallery. Partly he was seeing if he could match any of the paintings, photos and sculptures with events that had exhibits downstairs, and partly he was looking for inspiration for his own creative endeavors.

And then one of the plaques caught his eye. Two portraits of former students, on loan from a museum in another version of Faerie it seemed. The sign said they were Momoko and Karla. Apparently they were good friends of the last queen of Faerie, Leda Danan.

That had been the name of one of the ambassadors he'd met some years ago back home. He'd have to look it up later.

In the meantime he went to the desk to grab his sketchbook.

Gregorith checked the front desk often to make sure no one needed assistance but he was spending a lot of his time down among the history exhibits.

And what a fascinating, but worrying history it was. For one thing the island seemed to have moved. While it had been stably anchored to the mainland of no particular Earth (and how did that work?) near the city of Baltimore (he knew where that was now), it had once been farther south. It had also been smaller.

But what really had Gregorith concerned was how often the island seemed to attract trouble. It wasn't surprising considering its connection to any number of possibly random universes, but the almost annual invasion by hostile forces had him on edge.

(OOC: Museum is open, Gregorith is particularly scowly though.)

Blathers had been kind enough to not only give Gregorith a job, but to pick what day he wanted to work. So here he was, trying something new.

When he wasn't dealing with people, er, helping visitors, Gregorith made sure he was familiar with how the office and the front desk was organized (he didn't want to accidentally mess anything up like Asmodeus had when he reorganized Gregorith's weapons/tools), checking that the supply closets were supplied, and using the brochures on hand as a reference for a mock-up of what something similar for his universe could look like.

He was in a better mood than he had been in a bit. Maybe because of the tasks, maybe because he'd been here a while, maybe because of the K-Pop playlist he'd found.

"We're goin' up, up, up..."

Halloween season brought with it many scary things. At the moment perhaps the most terrifying was that the winter holidays would be here soon. (Where had the year gone? Where???)

As such, Steven was in his usual spot behind the Welcome Desk working on ideas for winter themed displays. There were the usual things such as pointing out the bugs and fish which thrived in colder weather. But perhaps this year they could include a special exhibition about winter events? Perhaps something about how the random happenstances in December had changed over the years?

Of course that would involve research, but that wasn't an insurmountable problem. Right now Steven was attacking it by making notes on what sorts of things could be included. He'd narrow down specifics later.

In the meanwhile, he was interruptible for any visitors who wished to talk.

It wasn't the sort of holiday which required taking off. Eating home more than usual, perhaps, particularly where Steven and Llewellyn had set things up on their balcony. But for this day neither of them were going to be too strict about it.

So Steven was at work. The posters regarding autumn related displays were hung and the brochures helping to guide people were out. The tomato plant upstairs had vanished as mysteriously as it had come - still not helping Steven completely rid himself of the theory it'd been a misplaced islander.

Which left things at the museum fairly normal. Which in turn made it a good day to do inventory. As such, when not with someone Steven could be found behind the desk, tallying up all the mugs, keychains, magnets, and other souvenirs that they sold.

He hummed a happy song to himself as he did. Even mundane tasks were enjoyable when you liked your work.

The tiny tomato plant was still a tiny tomato plant. It hadn't seemed to have grown much since last week? Maybe another leaf or two?

Steven took a picture of it and recorded some measurements. He also tried talking to it again in case it was a lost resident. No luck on that end. But at least now he had a reference point for any future changes.

That done, Steven went back to the Welcome Desk for the rest of his work day.

After about a half hour he said, "Bugger" as he remembered he wouldn't be at work next week. He wrote up what he'd found on the plant and left it as a note for Blathers. Just in case.

The tomato plant upstairs was also... gone? Sort of? Last week it had been tall and fruiting (tomatoing?) Now in its place a tiny sprout remained. Steven had no idea what to make of it and wondered if he should give Nell a call to see if it was all right. But for now it neither seemed hurt nor was hurting anybody, so once again Steven and Blathers left it be.

What had originally been intended to be a few days back in London had turned much longer when Khonshu had a request for his avatars to fulfill.

Well, all right. A request he wanted Marc to fulfill but Steven was part of the deal now and Khonshu could choke on it.

That had kept them all, Llewellyn included, away until yesterday evening. Which meant, between unpacking and making sure Midnight was all right, there'd been no time to catch up on what had happened while they'd been away. Such as why there were stray piles of glitter in the Museum lobby. Or why there was some sort of orange? Yellow? Originally a... fruit? Maybe? Rotted goop that had appeared in one of the previously empty displays in the museum's lower floor. Or the very clearly - which in and of itself was frankly suspicious - brand new and healthy tomato plant that had sprung up in the middle of the artwork upstairs.

Blathers was able to fill Steven in that he was pretty sure the glitter was leftover from the chaos of the previous week. The rest was anyone's guess. After some gentle questioning Blathers and Steven felt at least somewhat confident that the tomato plant wasn't an island resident having a day of it. But even so to be on the safe side they decided to leave the strangeness be. Hopefully whatever made these things appear would make them disappear as needed. No matter how tempting it was to try the tomatoes.

The glitter, on the other hand, had a known origin. So once Blathers went to bed for the day, Steven was left with a broom and dustpan to do the best he could to try to get rid of it.

Impossible to succeed, of course, but Steven gave it a go all the same. At least it kept him in the lobby and easily available to any visitors who stopped by.

Strange. Couldn't possibly imagine why. Some quirk of the multiverse, perhaps.

Steven hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary on his way into work that morning. Perhaps because he'd been so focused on getting there.

There on the suitcase was the word: Lesser.

That didn't help Steven's desire to glare, actually. He grabbed the suitcase and hauled it behind the Welcome Desk. On his way there he spotted others: Unwanted and Uninteresting.

A memory of a few years back came to Steven. He clamped down on any feelings of Marc he could possibly put a hold on so that whatever this was didn't manifest something for him too.

"You're not getting him," Steven said aloud to... whatever this was. "You can't have him."

Behind the Welcome Desk was another suitcase.

Unreal.

Steven shoved that one under the desk as hard as he could. He then stood there, his eyes closed, and tried his best to breathe slowly and calmly.

Once inside he made himself a nice hot cup of tea and settled down to going through the mail. There were various brochures about things that could be bought to enhance displays and the like. Steven didn't know if Blathers would be interested in them - the ones for insects were highly likely to be a no - but it couldn't hurt to at least skim and see if there was anything that stood out as having potential.

He was, of course, interruptible for any visitors.

There was a month to go, but even so Steven had Valentine's day on his mind. In this particular case because it was better to tee up exhibits based on the calendar with plenty of time for people to enjoy them.

Which was why Steven was at his spot behind the Welcome Desk doing research into displays about mating and courtship that could be set up around the museum once the holiday got closer.

He was interruptible for any visitors, of course.

The holidays and their related travel were over, so Steven was happily back at work.

As far as he was aware there were no new arrivals in town - at least none that had coincided with the start of the semester. Even so, he made sure that the Welcome Desk was prepared with maps and brochures and anything else a newcomer might need to get themselves up to speed on things.

Otherwise he busied himself with catching up on things from the two weeks he was gone. He hummed a song to himself as he worked. Nothing in particular, just a tune born of how glad he was to be at his job.
