The holidays and their related travel were over, so Steven was happily back at work.

As far as he was aware there were no new arrivals in town - at least none that had coincided with the start of the semester. Even so, he made sure that the Welcome Desk was prepared with maps and brochures and anything else a newcomer might need to get themselves up to speed on things.

Otherwise he busied himself with catching up on things from the two weeks he was gone. He hummed a song to himself as he worked. Nothing in particular, just a tune born of how glad he was to be at his job.

And at lunchtime, there appeared a Watts. Like every other time he happened upon Steven humming to himself while at work, he didn't say anything right away, just taking in the sight.

At that point Steven had accidentally stumbled on something like a song, and was singing under his breath, "Da da da da da, dance dance, dance dance..."

Who even knew it was possible for that besotted smile to grow any wider? Because that is what it was doing as Watts stood there.

Steven got caught up enough in it that he started tapping his pencil to the beat and swaying in place as he sang.

And while Watts was certainly tempted to say hello, he also was really enjoying being able to witness it, and didn't want to break the spell, as it were.

Steven kept up with the singing and the tapping, going faster as the song went to a sort of crescendo. Which had the unfortunate side effect of making his pencil fly out of his hand when he tapped it too hard on his desk.

"Oh bugger - " he said, twisting around to look for where it'd gone.

The pencil had hit the floor and then rolled to a stop at Watts's feet. He bent down to pick it up. "Looking for this?" he asked.

"Yes, I - " Steven started, then realized who he was talking to. A smile spread across his face. "Hello, you."

"Hello, you," Watts replied with a matching smile.

"I was thinking about you," Steven said. "Just now."

"You were?" Watts said, shyly pleased by this revelation.

[hasaknightjob]

"Ice skating," Steven said. Which in his head had translated to dancing, hence the singing. "Looking forward to when we go."

"Oh!" Watts said. "I was thinking about that too. Would you like to go tonight? Instead of waiting for the weekend?" Not that they couldn't also go on the weekend, of course.

Steven's face lit up. "I'd love to! It's a date."

"Perfect," Watts said, coming around the desk to offer the rest of his usual hello.

Steven accepted that hello. Then added, "For rescuing my pencil" and gave him another kiss.

"Mmm, I hope that sort of thank you is exclusive to me," Watts commented playfully.

"I would thank anyone who rescued my pencil," Steven said. "I would not do so in that manner for anyone but you, though."

"Good," Watts said firmly. "Rather possessive of those kisses, I'll have you know."

"Works out nicely," Steven said, "as they are entirely yours."

Steven put out the sign that said he was taking lunch. "Shall we?"

Watts deposited his hat on the desk and took Steven's arm in his. "Let's."

Steven hooked arms with him gladly. "How's your morning been then?"

"Exceptionally boring," Watts declared. "In contrast to yours, where it seemed like you were having quite the nice time before I came along."

[hasaknightjob]

"Mainly catching up from the holidays," Steven admitted. "But I had thoughts of you to keep me company."

"And now you've the real thing," Watts declared, bumping Steven's shoulder with his own.
