Jaina Solo was awash in a sea of emotions. Life had been going so well for her, having finally gotten over the pain of her broken engagement and the loss of Charles and the long, drawn-out court case that had developed after her mother Brooke had accused her in public of attempted murder. But things were good now. She ran the biggest modeling agency on the East Coast now, and she and her mother had patched up their differences and forgotten all about that suffocation thing. Perhaps she'd even try to get married again soon, she was due for a new love interest.

And now Charles was back, and John Sheppard was back in her life, and she knew something about Wade and had to find a way to bring him down, and Brooke wanted to talk to her. Apparently that thread had carried over into the next day. She could only imagine what was next.

So for the moment she found herself on the docks, hugging herself as she stared out at the water, searching for answers.

[So totally open.]
[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com
The fog around the docks was thick as always, the perfect place to skulk about when you were up to no good. John wasn't up to anything good, a single rose tucked into his lapel as he stalked about the docks. He'd received both flowers and a special message from a heavy breather and wondered idly what that could possibly be about. Perhaps some old flame returned, not that it mattered. Too busy to deal with nonsense, John glared out into the murky dusk to brood about the state of his soul.

Somehow he'd get Skywalker, Bass, and those incestuous Winchesters. He'd make them pay for what they'd done, turning him into a murderer and a thug. He was a Sheppard for Christ's sake! His people raised ponies in Vermont!

One day, when this was all over, he'd return to his adopted family and embrace their pacifist way of life once more. But first, that bitch Charles had to die!

Town Hall was all decked out in harvest theme with this being so close to Halloween and all. Pumpkins and squash and random corn! The corn, people! Think of the corn! But please, for the love of all that is holy, don't allow your children near it. Especially not the creepy gingers.

There was plenty of food and punch--not yet spiked--set to the side of the spacious room. Which left plenty of space for the general mulling about that kids were so fond of these days. Or dancing. And even the occasional dark bits in which to lurk. Have a fun homecoming, kiiiiids and remember to vote!

The picnic shelters were decorated with gold streamers, of both the crepe paper and shiny metallic sort, and the appetizing scent of breakfast foods grilled by NPC staff filled the air. Bright summer flowers were draped over anything you could drape bright summer flowers over, with far less subtlety than there'd been at the dance, since this was out in the open air and people could get away from them if they so chose.

The sounds of summer in musical form -- not chosen by the provider of the flowers, no -- played lightly in the background.

While the students had been completing their last finals, an NPC staff had been hard at work converting one of the empty warehouses into the site of tonight's dance. When the guests arrived this evening, they'd be greeted by a long yellow carpet, leading up to the open glass doors of the warehouse.

Once inside, they would find the space brightly decorated to celebrate the summer season. Gold drapes covered the walls, splashed liberally with glitter to make them sparkle in the low lights of the warehouse. Flowers were placed here and there, not overwhelming but definitely noticeable and fragrant. Images of beaches, palm trees, sunsets, sunrises, hammocks, and other various summer images were being projected on the walls randomly.

A long table consisting of food and drinks was along one wall, providing plenty of sustenance for everyone for their long night of fun. Dark corners could be found here and there, of course. There was music playing and a disco balls projecting light onto the dance floor.

It was time for the summer dance.

It was the day before graduation. The day before pomp and circumstance, diplomas, smiling seniors and proud guests. What better way to spend that day then partying the night away? That's right, tonight was the night of the senior lock in! Many NPC workers had been busy in town, cleaning up and setting up an abandoned warehouse for the event.

Now, the front of the warehouse was lit up with neon signs and stanchions that would lead the seniors into a huge building where not one speck of floor space wasn't being used for something fun. There was loud music pumping through the building and strobe lights were swirling around the area, lighting up the room in blues, reds, greens, yellows and various other colors. Decorations of all kinds painted the walls, giving the room a party like atmosphere.

Of course, it would just be a regular ole party, right? Nothing surprising would happen, right? Oh, of course. No surprises. Riiiiiight.

The senior lock in was open and it was time for the seniors to get their party on!

Penelope decided that she was going to give free drinks to seniors. She just was. She told Tino this too so if he served any seniors, he was not to charge them. And they weren't exactly free as she was going to be keeping a tab only to pay it herself at the end of her shift.

She wasn't a senior, she knew, but she was drinking. She was a bit put out about her roommate leaving so it seemed the thing to do.

The band was playing Journey tonight which she thought pretty decent of them.

Sometimes, global warming was nice.

At five it was ninety degrees nice.

In the early evening, he arrived on the beach, spreading out a blanket and stripping off his shirt to start working on his tan. If he was going to be living in California in a week, he'd need to be prepared. Not feeling like swimming, John produced his book from a back pocket and started reading.

He was right on schedule.

It was warm-ish. It was after classes. KKG was meeting on the beach.

Call it an excuse for lots of pretty boys to wear swim trunks in the presence of anyone who had handwavily heard about this completely open meeting of the minds.

Maybe some of the boys would even work up a nice sheen of sweat playing volleyball (but not in jeans, okay?) or running after a frisbee.

It was Earth Day after all.

Just because it was raining and sort of cold did not mean that Gavin was going to stay inside. Unlikely. He was from the desert and there was NO RAIN there. Here, there was lotsa rain and that meant Gavin was going to be out playing in it.

Even with the sun out, it was still fairly chilly on the causeway, creating a brisk reminder of what everyone would be leaving behind for the next week as they traveled through the Caribbean.

Jaina was having the start of a very bad night. Not that she knew it right now.

No, she was just walking out into the powdered sugar, standing at the perfect place to gaze out upon the pond behind her at that camera angle, gazing out to where the sunset would have been if it hadn't already happened. Though it should be noted that the moonlight still illuminated her features perfectly.

By some act of Fandom, the weather was behaving itself. Any clouds or rain the weather forecasters had blathered about on the news seemed to have skipped over the entirety of Fandom Island. It was a perfect afternoon in October, just the right temperature in which to spend the day outside with pleasant company. Or even relatives.

A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

He needed to brood and the perfect place to brood was in public where everybody could see you doing it. He got a low-fat macchiato with soy milk and sat at a table near the window so everybody could see the brooding. He had many things to brood about. First and foremost was the discovery of the identity of his father. That had put him in both shock and awe when he had found out. He must confront him. Yes, confronting him was key. If he made his real father proud then maybe he would be written into his will.

And always there was brooding about John *dun dun duuuuuuuuuun* Charles took an angry sip of his drink as he both brooded and seethed over John.

All in all, the fact that a penguin had found its way into the bar and made it clear that it wanted a scotch on the rocks wasn't all that weird to Jolee.

The fact that the penguin was a violent drunk and tried to bitch-flap Tino, however... That was unexpected. Fortunately Tino was spared a penguin-beat down thanks to the Sanctuary Spell. The penguin ended up on the Causeway, where it made its way back home.

After the town meeting, Aravis had decided she needed a drink.

Of course, tonight would be the night that that drunk woman from the radio didn't show up to her stupid job. And that ineffective young man had taken one look at the blade sheathed at her hip and headed into the back. Stupid boy.

Aravis wasn't entirely certain how it happened -- stubbornness, anger at Tino, a need to get her mind off things -- but she ended up behind the bar, pouring herself a glass of wine.

She could man the bar tonight. Pity on anyone who wanted anything particularly complicated to drink.

Across the town, the school, and the dorms, fliers had been put up to inform everyone of a town meeting taking place tonight (with a bold, capitalized note at the bottom warning everyone to be careful getting to the town hall). Zoe waited for as many people as possible to arrive and get settled before she got up and addressed the crowd.

"Thank you all for coming on such short notice tonight," she said. "We wanted to get everyone together to share some new information that was found today. Our researchers have found some possible evidence concerning the angels, and some of the people who have gone missing." She picked up the notes she'd been given, and read what the researchers had found.

"As much as I don't want to do this, I need to ask for volunteers," she continued. "We need people to go and get this information, or to talk to these folks, so we can figure out how to stop the angels, and get everyone back. I won't turn away students who want to help, but you're going to be sent with adults to make sure all of you come back in one piece. If you want to stay here, that's perfectly fine. I want to remind all of you that there are safehouses being set up throughout town, to make sure that no one has to be alone right now. Travel in numbers, and always look around you. If you do that, you'll stay safe. I'll be here to answer any questions, and to take the names of those who want to volunteer. The floor is open for anyone who has something else they'd like to say."

[OCD is up! If you're on one of the away teams, you can handwave coming to the meeting and volunteering, if you want.]

Arrivals to the town hall for the dance would find it decorated with darker, richer colors, from the draping streamers to the balloons scattered around to the runner on the snacks table. At the entrance, there was even a table with a variety of masks available for those who might not have brought their own, or were too damn lazy to get one, provided ever so graciously by Turtle & Canary.

And there wasn't a single speck of pink in the decorations. Nope. Not one. Turtle had made sure of it, even against the nefarious plottings of someone whose name may have rhymed with Peg Panning.

There was, however, still a lot of glitter. You could change the world, but you couldn't tempt fate.

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

Over the course of the evening, Fandom's population increased significantly. The prehistoric creatures that had first arrived last night were no longer alone. The newcomers inquisitively investigated their new surroundings.

Meanwhile, amidst the bits and pieces of school being reconstructed at the top of the hill, an oviraptor sniffed around. Smooth rocks that looked like eggs were left out for the taking. Cautiously, it snatched one of the rocks out of the pile. The creatures around the island screeched at the sudden pain the rock-snatcher had caused. The oviraptor dropped the mistaken egg-rock and ran away, but the damage was already done.

The sudden overwhelming pain hadn't been an isolated incident. It had triggered something inside each of the creatures' minds, aggravating them beyond normal behavior, doing what pheromone-laced leis did to snakes that one time on a plane. You know the one.

For the dinosaurs (and company), new surroundings had become hostile territory and its inhabitants were to be destroyed.

For the residents of Fandom, well, it was another one of those weekends.

The beach wasn't all that hard to find, considering it was a large area of sand and water, and Gavin will never admit to getting lost once. Twice. Shut up. He found his way eventually.

He's spent the time since then crouched down, fingers running through the sand and eyes on the water. It felt...different than the sand on Tatooine. He couldn't really describe how only that it was.

He really shouldn't be this fascinated by water but he was.

[Gavin's here for someone specific but the beach is, of course, open and full of sand.]

Siegfried, Roy and their white tiger were in the park, prepared to put on a Very Important Show.

Well, if the tiger wouldn't keep running off. And...beeping. What the hell was that about anyway?

Ah, gremlin bites. Luke and Gavin were going to unhappy tomorrow, but for now...

Siegfried turned to Roy. "Are ve ready?"

Artoo, who was not a tiger, made another run for it.

School in ruins = picnic in the park.
Food, check. Nametags, check. Glitter, check. Sibling list, check.
New people, yay!

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. Mini-OCD is done, woo! This is part two of the picnic, for general mingling. Part one is happening simultaneously here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g* Both posts are open to everyone.]
