The weather was still behaving itself, so the sun was beaming down brightly (which might not be appreciated by those who overindulged last night), the humidity wasn't unbearable, and the mosquitoes were keeping to themselves.

Beneath a generously be-glittered banner that read "20th ANNIVERSARY REUNION!" was a veritable feast of breakfast-y foods on tables that looked dangerously close to toppling under the weight.

There were pastries, various egg dishes, and yogurt parfaits in mason jars (because Pinterest might have died ten years ago but mason jars were forever). There was more coffee than should probably be legal.

Come out! Tend to your hangovers! Explain any walks of shame!

And, if you were a father, come get your complimentary glass of sparkling wine or Bloody Mary. The administration figured you deserved one.

Yes, Francine Peters stole a golf cart.

Yes, even though there was nobody left in J,GoB, she felt guilty about it.

Yes, she was Francine Peters and thus was fully under the impression that Professor Skywalker would probably send her to jail for it eventually, but there was a war on and THE PEOPLE NEEDED CHOCOLATE.

Which is why there was a golf cart full of chocolate-frosted chocolate chocolate fudge double chunk ripple chocolate cupcakes, doughnuts and yes, people with long memories for stupidity, brownies (sans oregano), located at the corner of Mallard and Chimera, for any of Fandom's brave fighters who need more artillery. Or had the munchies.

Yes, Natalie, there was definitely also coffee.

Anakin came back from Connecticut with a new sense of purpose (and a deep hatred of the idiots who drove on I-95), several 2x4s, a hammer, and some paper.

A few minutes of banging later and Anakin had a giant bulletin board...thing.

In big bold letters he labeled one giant sheet of paper "CONFIRMED DISAPPEARANCES" and the other "RETURNING FANDOMITES."

He took a deep breath before scrawling information under the disappearances, then tacking up two dated photographs of the people in question on the blank area on the board he'd left for that purpose. For some reason it seemed vital that someone other than him remember what they looked like too.

He placed a piece of glass down over the sheets of paper (no use going to this much trouble if things would just get blown away or wet) and headed back to the trooper station to catch up on what he'd missed the last few days.

Although the weekend was almost over, the esteemed alumni of Fandom High were not getting away without one last get-together. The park had been deemed too cold for the event, so the community center had been set up again with tasteful blue and yellow streamers and real flowers on the tables, although there might have been a few paper flowers still lying around from last night too.

There was plenty of food just waiting to be eaten, and if someone asked nicely, they might be able to acquire a drink or two as well. It was five o'clock somewhere.

Tim set down the comic with a sigh. "Galaxy Quest and Zombies. The genre has now gone and jumped the undead shark." In his opinion anyway. "At least the creators of Space Battles are still holding out."

He took a look around the store, just making sure everything was in order. At closing time he would be heading back to his apartment for the last time, just to get his things. He thought he'd be sadder to leave this time around than he was. Maybe it was because the most important Fandomite to him wasn't on the island anyway.

[Android's Dungeon is open of course. This will be Tim's last post as a townie. Next stop is Expat Land.]

Ino was… so not in the mood for her regular schedule of work work work and then nothing and that, well, showed in her lackluster enthusiasm in even watering the plants. The only reason she'd even made it in to work was because, after yesterday's abject failure, she hadn't wanted to…

It had seemed like a bad idea to not keep to her schedule. Especially since she didn't want to be here.

Blah. Ino settled in her usual spot in Cable-san's chair and brooded. She had a lot of things to brood about, lately.

The Homecoming Carnival was in full swing and decorated according to the theme: blues and greens of all sorts, and little fish decorations everywhere.

But that wasn't the important part, oh no.

The important part was how much fun could be had at all of the booths! Step up, step up! Take your chances!

Really, who would want to miss this?

And thus began Parents' Weekend. It was an overcast day but the rain had long since tapered off. Just in case, tents had been erected all around the park to protect from the potential for wet stuff. No one needed their guest showing up cranky because they'd been rained on.

There were tables and tables of all sorts of food and drinks. There was something for everyone. The Student Council had spared no expense. Blue and gold tables and chairs were also spread out underneath the tents, giving guests and islanders a place to sit down and chat or sit down and eat or something to hide under.

A registration table stood near the front of the setup where guests could check in and get a nametag. A banner adorned the edges of the tents proclaiming:

WELCOME TO PARENTS' WEEKEND 2010

Chloe hadn't been fond of all of the people leaving. Some of the people she had known pretty well, and some of the people she didn't. However, anytime there were a lot of goodbyes being said, it made her sad, or it made her think too much of her friends that were still in hiding and trying to come up with ways to take down the people of Lyle House.

Today, Chloe had arranged a display of superhero comics in the middle of the store and was behind the counter.

Android's Dungeon was open.

Chloe had gotten to the store early enough to wander through and make note of new displays or new issues that had come in over the week. She also made a mental note of some of the titles to tell Simon about and to add to her own reading list.

Once she was done with that, she tidied up anything that needed it and settled behind the counter with a notebook.

Was she writing a new story or working on a letter to the group off island? Who knew.

Chloe was really not liking this week at all right about now.

Leaving for work this morning, she had almost tripped over a steamer trunk labelled ABANDONMENT ISSUES. Not wanting anyone to see it, she had shoved in under her cot and then fled her cabin.

However, she had barely gotten to work when more luggage started showing up.

WILL NEVER BE LOVED had been thrown out in back of the store in hopes that no one would see it. STUTTERS and TOO AWKWARD WITH PEOPLE had been shoved behind the counter. NOT STRONG ENOUGH, SEES DEAD PEOPLE and HIDING THINGS had been used to make tables for a new display of comics featuring small girls.

However, when DANGEROUS FREAK and LIABILITY tripped her on her way to the front of the store, she was almost in tears and ready to hide beneath the counter herself.

Android's Dungeon was open.

Watch out for the luggage. Chloe would probably let you have any of it for free.

Geoffrey was starting to wonder if he shouldn't have just tried to cobble together a bunch of his old scripts to do something a bit more in his usual style... but at least people were coming. At least no one was trying to kill him over what'd happened the other, er, month.

But there was the music to worry about. He'd need to either see about a soundtrack tape or find people who'd be willing to play the music for the songs. Or maybe...

Hmmm.

Ino was more than a little interested in what was being changed in the shooting range and so it was a very reluctant ninja that was staying out by the front counter because, you know, just because they couldn’t sell anything didn’t mean she was allowed to... not be there.

She kept herself busy by... trying to figure out how to answer Hurley’s e-mail. Which was possibly why she was having so much trouble concentrating.

It was going to take her awhile to figure out a... kinder response than ‘You. Idiot. Stop. That.

Ino didn’t understand why he’d need a mental hospital. Or what the hell a mental hospital even did when it came to people having issues. Ino was hitting a wall made of complete incomprehension.

... At least she’d figured out by now that her first response to things of the sort Hurley was talking about was wrong? At least to most people on the island. It was a step in the right direction even if it left her absolutely baffled about what she was supposed to say. Sigh.

Geoffrey had been stewing.

While the actual play scripts had come in last week, he'd been so unhappy with what had happened (and the unfortunate circumstance that meant he couldn't undo what'd happened without feeling mildly ill to his stomach at the thought of wasting a production) that he hadn't been able to even write on the board for casting.

A musical.

They'd sent him... a musical.

Not a bad musical, not by any means, but a musical all the same. A musical. All right, a dramatic musical, and a musical based on the Bard's work, but...

Oh God, he was going to have to coach someone through 'I Feel Pretty' and suddenly lunch was so much less interesting. But this was what he had and he wasn't about to spit in the face of what he had, not when it was, well, all he had. So the sign went up.

There wasn't a lot to straighten up in the store today when Chloe got there. So she did what needed to be done and then settled on a stool behind the counter. Simon had sent her a couple of new pages of drawings and she needed to fill in the script for their comic.

He was working on the images for the great escape and so she was trying to come up with text that didn't seem overly dramatic -- even if it was a comic. She didn't want it to be too over the top, after all. They did want people to read this some day.

Chloe had dragged Kendra into the store with her. There was no way she was calling in and she couldn't leave her alone.

"Kendra, don't pull on --" *CRASH* "--the table with the candles and incense."

Kendra was already running off to another display to look at.

"DRUMS!"

"No."

"MOMMY! DRUMS!"

"Drums are not for playing inside, Kendra."

"I want the drum!"

Chloe gave her a speculating look. "If I give you a drum will you tell me who your daddy is?"

"DRUMS!"

Chloe sighed. Being on the run and on the streets after escaping Lyle House was much easier than this.

Savannah and K-Mart had decided that taking the kidlets outside for awhile would be a very good idea.

They gathered up everyone and headed out to the beach. The way the girls thought, the beach would give plenty of room for running and playing...

...and maybe Storm and Alice-Claire would burn off some of that energy that they seemed to have an unending supply of.

"Can we call Daddy?" Storm demanded.

"In a little bit," Savannah promised. "He's probably not awake yet."

Unlike Savannah and K-Mart, who had been awake since four a.m. Johnny should be very grateful that Savannah loved him too much to wake him up at that ungodly hour.

"Storm, no magic in the water!"

She doubted that either of the girls would listen to her on that. She sighed and looked at LJ. "LJ?"

He grinned, already moving after the two girls. "Don't worry, Aunt Savannah. I'll keep an eye on my sisters."

Savannah and K-Mart collapsed on the sand after spreading out towels and blankets. It was probably going to be a very long day.

She was also making a list of titles that she really wanted to check out when she had some free time -- as well as things that she would like to send to Simon.

Chloe was cheerful as she moved around the store today.

All right, she was way past cheerful and knocking at the door of giddy.

It had been a good few weeks for her here in Fandom. She had gotten her first (and then her second) kiss, she made the cheerleading squad (and she still wasn't sure how that had happened), and now on Valentine's Day, she had received a rose -- from the guy that gave her her first kiss. She thought it was very sweet of him, but didn't see it as anything more than being something friendly from a sweet, handsome guy.

However, knowing that, didn't stop her from being giddy and cheerful in the store today.

During the night, Fandom had been covered in a blanket of fresh snow that was just thick enough to turn everything crisp and white. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.

Simon had sent her his latest drawings of what had been going on in their lives since their escape from Lyle House and the Edison Group. As per their deal on that bus ride months ago, Simon provided the art work and Chloe would provide the words for the images.

When the door opened, she looked up to find the most adorable creature she had ever seen. She watched it wandering the store for a few moments and when it came up to the counter, well, she just had to take a break from writing to play with it a little bit.

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

Chloe was happy to be at work and this was evident by the way she was shelving comics and straightening out the shelves. She had some quiet music playing and was wondering what would be the next comic series she should try to read. If she was working in a comic book store, she should make sure she had plenty of knowledge about what she was selling, right?
