Oz had leftovers from his impromptu barbeque the day before, so now he had it set up in front of Coyote Medicine in hopes of getting rid of some of it. Today this food was free.

C'mon, who doesn't love free food?

Oz was grilling. There was a big HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY banner up in the window. In addition to various patriotic items and Armed Forces memorabilia, today there were hotdogs, burgers, and sodas for one dollar each.

Welcome to Holiday Grove.

Robin had handwavily put out the call that this was a really good day to go to the beach. With Oz and Leda's help he'd gotten music and food and stuff and was currently making like a dolphin and seeing how high out of the water he could jump.

Uhura carefully straightened the hat display in the window. It was her first day at work, at her first real job. She put on her best outfit that morning- a straight skirt in a pale tan, with a smart red-and-orange print blouse. She felt like such a grown up.

She fussed with the display some more, trying to get it just perfect. When she knocked over part of it, she decided she had fussed enough.

Oz was a little late getting to work that day due to an uncanny string of annoying coincidences. The kind that always seem to crop up and make you late for work.

Out of guilt he put extra effort into making sure the stock was all nice and presentable.

Today there was a sale on Bermuda Shorts. If Oz knows why, he ain't tellin'.

It wasn't cold out, even if the sun wasn't shining too heavily. Decent weather to go out, some cans of varnish in hand, and finally deal with some of the main problems Ender kept running into with the raft.

It was going to be a lot of work, but he didn't particularly mind. It bought him some isolation and, in turn, probably some time away from whoever it was Ben claimed shared Peter's face. He'd gone through his share of emails that morning - that part of his life was settled for the day - and now he had time.

So Ender took his brush and began the painstaking process of applying varnish to his raft, one log at a time. His legs left imprints in the sand that got progressively deeper as time went on.

It was easier to not think about the Gremlin bitey of the day before when you kept yourself busy. So Oz was hard at work doing things that hadn't been done in awhile.

Like checking out all the back stock in the storage room. Ooh, Frank Frazetta type posters.

Whether the Gremlins had planned, and manipulated it, or if it was just some weird coincidence, Oz, Tim, Tully, Leda and even Billy (taking a break from finals to hang out on the island) had been in one place at once. And fell to the biting teeth of their attackers.

Now, Johnny "The J" Johnson of Darkstone Entertainment had gathered his dream cast (Nathan Fillion Tim, William Shatner Tully, Mark Hamill Billy and Elvira Leda, to re-make Metropolis Dystopia.

"Actors!" he cried. "Be you ready?"

They indicated they were indeed. Though Shatner of course maneuvered his way to the front.

"All right! Elvira, your dress is perfect. Shatner, pause just a little more between sentences. Mark you manly man you you're made of wonderful. Nathan...everything you're doing is wrong."

He held up his imaginary camera. "Rolling, and...action!"

"We love you Anakin, oh yes we doooo!" Elvira began to croon to Mark Hamill. "We love you Anakin, and we'll be true. When you're not near us, we're blue!"

"Cut!"

Rosalind's very specific headache had not gone anywhere after listening to radio.

Or after she'd spent three hours attempting to outline the beginnings of a draft for her first report to Tseng. (Actually, that had made it worse. She'd spent the time trying to think of a way to phrase 'my little sister is a) older than I am, b) crazy, and c) a Turk' without sounding like she should be locked away for her own safety.)

Another hour was spent slowly and carefully stretching out and seeing how she felt. Tired still; yesterday had taken a toll on her. Rosalind considered that for all of half a minute before forcing herself up off the floor and, with a quick check to make sure she looked tidy and was fully suited up, she left the room.

Then left the dorms. Rosalind was well aware that going particularly far or fast would be an abysmal idea. The doctors had been quite firm on that. (They would also have told her to keep her behind in a chair for another day but Rosalind was ignoring that much.) She was a Turk, she had to know the island.

Being a Turk had precious little to do with her fascination with the park when she came upon it, however, and her footsteps slowed further as she explored it, making sure to stick to the paths, and quietly drinking in the green.

Buffy was in town tonight. This meant Buffy was on patrol, wandering the streets armed in case there were any demons that needed vanquishing- or, stabbing, since she didn't really vanquish without help from the booky types- or people that needed saving. Okay, so the apocalypse hadn't happened (again) at graduation, and it had all been really funny because it hadn't happened to her, but you never knew what might happen overnight, right? Right?

Yeah, she knew if there were any vampires they'd probably be the good kind you couldn't kill, and it'd be a quiet night where nothing happened, but still. She was in town till morning, she might as well.

Jaina had meant to set out to see if the junkyard was still underwater, 'cause she had a droid to work on and was missing some key parts, but she'd gotten a little turned around in town and and ended up outside the coffee shop. And she thought, well, there weren't many people around, and she had always wanted to try caf... Her dad told her she couldn't have any because it would stunt her growth. Her dad had no idea that caffeine wouldn't make a lick of difference there. Besides, he wasn't here now...

So Jaina went inside, asked for directions, and hey, while she was getting herself unturned around, could she order a caf. They didn't have caf, so instead she got a small coffee, and she took it back to a table. Her feet didn't reach the ground in the chair she was sitting in, and she'd had take the lid off the cup so she could blow on it for what felt like forever so it was cool enough, and then decided it was safe enough to try.

"....Yuck."

Maybe it was an acquired taste. She'd just keep trying it, because grownups did it all the time, and then when she reached the end she'd be a tiny caffeinated eight-year-old and then where would you all be?

[So open. And now I want coffee.]

Oz was starting to feel spring seep into his blood. The need to go enjoy the weather in the company of a date. Possibly away from Fandom. He wondered if Ashley was feeling the same way. He made a mental note to call her as soon as he was off work.

As people (hopefully) began to filter in, he stood on a chair to make his little announcement.

"I'd like to thank you all for coming. This isn't going to be a long speech, don't worry. For those that don't know me, I'm Captain John Price. I guess I'm in charge of this little club. Now you'll notice that the staff here aren't charging for the lanes tonight. That's because I worked out a deal. This club will be visiting various establishments around town each week, and we'll basically... show up and have fun. That's about all it's about, folks. Making friends, having a laugh, the simple things. Now you do still have to rent your own shoes, but that's just pittance, ain't it? So feel free to order some refreshment, get bowling, or stop by the arcade. And if you've got suggestions or anything for future meetings, I'll be over there."

He pointed towards the 'Big Game Hunter 3000' arcade machine.

"And that's all the speech you'll be getting. Have some fun already."

Karla was starting to have a Bad Feeling about this. Not a Black Widow bad feeling, just a kind of dawning, 'Oh, Darkness, what have I done?' kind of feeling. Would her friends be able to understand the way Kaeleer worked? Would the people in Kaeleer understand her friends? She'd already had Uncle Saetan empty the Hall as much as possible--the last thing she needed was Chaosti and Aaron riding the killing edge because they'd, well, met Arthur. Saetan was old enough to keep a reign on his temper (Darkness willing) and Lucivar.

Hell's fire, this was a bad idea.

But too late for that now. Everyone was pretty much assembled. "Uh, hi," Karla said, giving everyone a kind of feeble wave. "The portal should be here in just a few minutes. But, since we're all here, I figured now might be a good time to give some information about my home and answer any questions. I hope you all got my handwavy message about packing enough for about a week, a bathing suit, and a few more formal items because Uncle Saetan asks that everyone dress for dinner. If not, don't worry, tomorrow we'll be heading out to Amdarh, the capitol city of Dhemlan and there have been some accounts opened at stores for everyone."

She flashed her best unsure-but-game grin and said, "Any questions?"

Oz's hair was prickling at the back of his neck. Something was up. He couldn't tell if it was old Sunnydale instincts kicking in, or if the wolf was sensing something.

Or maybe he was just finding the fog spooky. And not in that cool fun way. He glanced towards the door and front window often.

Oz and Robin were back on the streets, trying for either some extra cash, an audience, or both. As before, they both played the music, but Robin did the singing.

I wanna marry Mary cause my Mary's takin' care of me,

This weekend had been interesting. He wondered if this was how people in Sunnydale had felt after that one Halloween.

After putting up a banner in the window;

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

He spent much of the day seeing if he could still do those sleight of hand tricks.

Welcome to Holiday Grove.

This ship clearly was more spacious on the inside than the outside had indicated.

Rose DeWitt Bukater, however, was more disturbed about the fact that the servants had apparently mixed up her luggage with the clothes of someone who couldn't decide if he was a man or a prostitute.  The clothes that were in the closet of her stateroom!  Rose considered herself an open-minded and forward-thinking lady, but she was still a lady, thank you very much.

Dressing had taken longer than she'd expected, and without a maid, it was harder to put her hair up than she'd expected.  She may not have been dressed at the height of fashion, but she was not going to be ashamed in the costume either.

The bar seemed to be the most active establishment on the ship, but Rose couldn't quite allow herself to go into it on her own let alone order a drink, so she found herself in a seat at the tea shop with a cup of a tea and plate of cookies in front of her.  Less attention was being paid to the tea than to the window onto the passage and all the people passing by.

Oz, the Great and Terrible, let out a sigh as he looked around the empty lot. Wonderful. He'd told the others he knew a short cut. Who knew how long it would take the rest of the circus to catch up?

Well nothing for it but to wait. Hmm, maybe he could impress some of the rubes while he was here. Island folk were even better than small town folk when it came to audiences.

[Oz the Werewolf is now the Marvelous Wizard of Oz from the Judy Garland version. Post is open.]

Oz was a little tired this morning, but a mocha frappe from the Perk was just the ticket. In between sips (letting the ice melt a bit) he performed his duties. Which didn't amount to much, the store was already pretty well in order.
[identity profile] loyal-type.livejournal.com
Oz always felt a little extra energy on the first day of the cycle. Which made it that much harder to relax at night unless he worked it off during the day.

Hence the many, many signs in the window today.

Happy... )

There was also a lot of St. Patrick's day products available.
[identity profile] loyal-type.livejournal.com
For some reason, Oz had woken today thinking it was Monday. He'd been halfway to Holiday Grove before he realized his mistake and altered his course to Coyote Medicine.

He was now working on some crossword puzzles. The brain clearly needed more exercise.

Welcome to Coyote Medicine. What's an eleven letter word for werewolf?

The sign in the window sad 75% off all Valentine's Day Stuff

Oz would be willing to go to 80 percent off if people wanted to haggle. Cause next time the sign would say 'free Valentine's Day stuff in the alley'.

What's stranger than a guy busking out in the cold winter weather? A guy backed up by a frog on a banjo, busking in the cold winter weather.

Oz and Robin were bundled up against the chill, playing an up lifting song. Robin was doing the singing of course. He could project surprisingly well.

Well, the greeting cards weren't exactly Valentine's cards. But with Valentine's Day coming up, Oz put the cards on prominent display anyway. And then had fun unpacking and arranging the Wolf Collection of incense burners. There were also miniature fountains with wolves on them.

He wasn't sure why all the wolf stuff had come at the same time.
[identity profile] loyal-type.livejournal.com
Oz was a romantic. So at first he hadn't minded all the Valentine's stuff that kept coming in.

But then it kept coming in. And the merchandise was getting more and more ridiculous.

"Wendy the Werewolf Stalker Valentine cards?" he muttered aloud. He could think of many things wrong with everything in that sentence.

Also he was now being reminded that he was single. So, not a lot of happy in the store today.
[identity profile] loyal-type.livejournal.com
With Valentine's day approaching, Oz was finding a lot of the scented candles and incense were becoming rather romantic in nature.

Then there were the heart shaped dream catchers. What, were they supposed to stop dreams about love gone wrong?

Welcome to Coyote Medicine.
[identity profile] loyal-type.livejournal.com
There was a big banner in the window today of a rainbow, at the end of which was a harp. The banner read:

Celebrate Gay, Lesbian and Transgender History Month, and Happy Feast of St. Brigid. From Goddess to Saint, at least you weren't forgotten.

Oz had been unable to think of a clever way to incorporate Black History Month into the banner as well, so there was second banner proclaiming it. There were depictions of Africa and The Caribbean Islands on that one.

As for himself, Oz settled in to recover from his week-long sojourn to Alaska to search for his cousin Jordy who'd gotten himself lost.
[identity profile] loyal-type.livejournal.com
There would be no sales or banners, or researching holidays today it would seem.

Today was all about cleaning up the mess that the Gremlins had made. From mutilated and defaced cardboard stand ups of Holiday characters, to destroyed party supplies strewn everywhere, he had his work cut out for him.

Still, he'll help you if he can.

On second thought, there was a sale. A hastily scrawled sign in the window read:

70% OFF CONFETTI
[identity profile] loyal-type.livejournal.com
Oz had himself a little audience. Little in terms of the size of each individual member, not in terms of numbers. In terms of numbers it wasn't a bad size.

He wished to God he had a camera right now. This was just too damn cute.

When he started an up-tempo number a few of them even started dancing.

[identity profile] loyal-type.livejournal.com
Among the new crafts for sale today was a wooden carving of an owl. It was facing the wall because Oz had been slightly creeped out by it seeming to stare at him.

If anyone asked he would tell them it was thinking about what it had done.

A new year, and Oz didn't feel any different. He did have to remember to write 10, instead of 09 on things, but that was about the only change.

Today he decided to arrange the figurines in the window display so it looked like they were at a seminar or something.

Welcome to Coyote Medicine.
[identity profile] loyal-type.livejournal.com
There were still Christmas decorations and such up and for sale. After all it was the 11th day of Christmas. Which may explain the bagpipe music Oz was playing over the sound system.

The banner in the window said:
