Claire was in a pretty good mood today since she had actually gotten to sleep in her own bed last night. The cabins weren't terrible, but she preferred the dorms.

Thanks to her good mood, she was spending the day cleaning the shop. It was amazing how much dust accumulated in just a few weeks.

She'd be happy to help anyone who stopped in though.

Instead of doing actual work today, Claire had her laptop open and was busy reading the crackpot conspiracy theories of someone who was famous for some reason she had yet to discern.

It was amusing, at least.

She would help anyone who needed it though.

Claire had been enjoying the hot weather - it reminded her of home.

Today's task at work was pulling old issues of comics off the shelves to make room for incoming stock.

It was another Monday and Claire was in the shop. She couldn't believe she had been in Fandom for a whole year and she couldn't believe they were already back in the cabins.

She decided to be lazy today and just sit behind the counter reading some comics.

So newbie weekend had been a great distraction from everything else going on in her life, but Claire knew she couldn't put off the conversation she needed to have with Elle much longer. In fact, she was a little surprised she had managed to put it off this long.

She knew it was necessary though and made a promise to call the other girl as soon as she got back from work. In the meantime, she was pouring over every issue of Ninth Wonders available in the store, looking for clues about her future.

It was the first day Claire managed to make it back in to work after her trip home and she was definitely wishing she was anywhere else but there. Between losing her dad and Jon leaving, she was not having the easiest time of things. She also hadn't talked to Elle about what happened yet and she knew she couldn't avoid it much longer.

Since she was there, she decided to throw herself into work as a distraction, pulling all of the merchandise off of the shelves and scrubbing all of the fixtures.

Let it never be said that Captain John Price was a good influence on children.

He had a blanket out, covered in various guns, ready to hand to the children. Water guns, mind you. He wasn't stupid. From pistols to super-soakers, they were all ready for the taking.

Price himself was wearing a rain slicker. He came prepared. This was basically Price getting all of his grandfatherly instincts out. And yes, he had a bucket filled with grenade-style water balloons in case any of the kids did turn on him.

Claire had a little helper today at work. She had planned to leave Melody with Jon, but the girl insisted on going with Mommy. Rather than risk setting off a tantrum, Claire had agreed.

Which meant approximately every 5.3 seconds she was saying "Mel, don't touch that."

It was going to be a long day.

Jon had taken the early morning shift with Melody, so Claire decided to take the girl to the park to burn off some energy. She had a lot of energy. Claire wondered how she and Jon kept up with her.

"Mommy, can we feed the ducks?"

"Maybe later, sweetie. We don't have any bread with us."

"Can I play with the ducks?"

"I don't think that's a good idea."

"Can I pick flowers for Grampa?"

"Yeah, sure, do that."

Which kept her attention for about five minutes before she was looking for something else to do.

Unlike the majority of their classmates, Claire and Jon were up and out early the morning after prom. A little thing like a dance wasn't enough to throw them off of their handwavy routine of a morning run.

And it was a gorgeous morning for a run too. They certainly weren't expecting any distractions.

As the night went on, an assortment of prom favours were replacing the masks on the table just inside the tent. Everyone was free to take a picture frame and disposable camera to record their own Prom memories. Also were shot glasses with the Fandom High gremlin on them. Such things happened when Dean Stinson was the Student Council advisor.

The punch was thoroughly spiked by now, but the dessert table had been refilled o soaking up all that alcohol was a definite possibility. The music would still be playing for a few hours for all to get in as much dancing and time to be with their friends as they wanted.

And in just a moment, Dean Stinson was going to announce the Prom Court.

Tomorrow was Claire's seventeenth birthday and she was not looking forward to it. Thus far her search for her Nathan and Peter had been fruitless and it was starting to wear her down. She didn't want to miss prom this Friday, but she was spending her work shift looking at Portalocity bookings for the weekend, thinking a trip home to look through her father's files was in order.

She also had a rather large stack of Ninth Wonders titles around her, scouring them for clues.

Of course, she would be happy to help any customers who stopped by.

Claire was greatly relieved that the fog was gone and there were no more creatures lurking in the shadows when she arrived at work today. She had her droid-baby with her in a bouncy seat she had picked up. Natalie was dressed appropriately for spending the day at work with her mama.

There wasn't much work getting done, obviously. Between the baby and Claire's thoughts about radio saying the creature she had fought last week actually being Elle, she was well and truly distracted.

She'd snap out of it if she got any customers though.

Tyler and Ghanima were both there early today, waiting for everyone to arrive.

"Good evening," she started, looking around the space. "Welcome back, and we're back to our randomly assigned pairs."

"Miss Dinah Lance and Miss Claire Bennet. Mr. Jono Starsmore and Miss Lulu. Jedi Tahiri and Miss Fa Mulan. If you do not already know each other, please introduce yourselves. You are partners for your fights this evening."

Tyler just rolled his eyes at Ghani's formality. "Jen, grab Blysse. Katarn and Hathaway, Mayor Summers and Blue Girl. Go to it."

It wasn't quite an ordinary night at fight club, since most of the mats were covered in tarps and three oversize kiddie pools were set out on the tarps. If you got close enough to look into the pools, you'd notice mud in one, jello in another, and a shallow slick of oil in the third.

Tyler had learned never to lose a bet with Ghanima, and the less said about that the better. She smirked from a corner in the back of the room and left the explanations to him.

"So we're doing special training today," he said dutifully. "Fighting in substances -- mud, jello, or oil. If that's not your cup of tea" -- and he, frankly, considered that only sanity -- "there are other mats on that side of the gym."

A pause as Tyler was interrupted by a chanty being sung in a very squeaky voice.

"Don't squish the pi-rats while you're at it."

It was a very happy Claire who showed up to work at the comics shop today. Despite being back in the cold and snowy north after a week spent in a tropical paradise, she couldn't be happier.

Another Monday, another day at work.

Despite the snow on the ground and the still cold temperatures, Claire was in a spring cleaning kind of mood. She was wearing rubber gloves and carrying around a bucket of sudsy water, carefully removing all of the comics from each fixture and giving it a good scrub down.

Claire had a very large cup of hot chocolate with her when she opened the comic shop today. This cold and snowy weather could stop any time as far as she was concerned.

In an effort to distract herself from the weather, she was flipping through a brightly colored glossy periodical. It just wasn't a comic book; it was a teen magazine and she was looking at dresses.

"I hope that you all aren't hungover or overtired from the dating event last night," Ghanima began cheerfully once everyone had assembled. "Because we're going to work you today."

Tyler glanced at her lazily. Was three-minute dates that big a deal with this crowd? The things he missed being all monogamous. He scratched his chin before speaking. "Right," he said. "And ... you with you, you with you, you with you ... Ghanima, other three?"

"You, with her. You two. And you and you," she continued, pointing people out. "Now go to it."

A lazy smile spread across Tyler's face, and he made a shoo'ing gesture before going off to find his own match.

During the night, Fandom had been covered in a blanket of fresh snow that was just thick enough to turn everything crisp and white. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.

There were no mass-delusions this week, or fake baby-daddies, or any of that nonsense, and so Fight Club was in session.

"Hello everyone," Ghanima said, flicking her Santa hat out of her eyes. "If you've forgotten the rules with all the time off you've had, they're on the door. Previous mental trauma will not be accepted as an excuse if you screw up today."

Tyler had pinned his Santa hat down under a stocking cap. It looked silly, but it kept the white pompom from flopping into his eyes. "It's been a while," he agreed. "Which is definitely not an excuse. We'll see some good matches today. I can feel it."

Ghanima gave him a sideways glance. "If you're the island's version of sparring Santa, I may decide to give up on my sanity entirely."

"I'm not fat enough," he told her. "But I can give you a match, little girl. Go with him, your brother should go with him, those two ... and you pick the last three."

The look she gave him promised dire retribution for the 'little girl' comment. "You two," she said instead, picking two out of the crowd. "You, and the person right there. And you and you."

"Looks good," Tyler said, apparently entirely satisfied even if there was retribution to come. "Let's go."

"Right," Tyler said, once most of the fighters seemed to be there. "I don't know where Ghanima went. Maybe she has some chick thing I don't want to know about."

Yes, Tyler, that was exactly what you wanted to say about a woman who could kick your ass. Especially when she had relatives who came to Fight Club and could also kick your ass.

"Anyhow, you're stuck with me. Rejoice. Um, matches today are -- blondie, fight dark hair. Other blondie, you're with him. Third blondie, with her." He paused to draw his breath and look the crowd over. "Anakin with Steve, the Mayor with him, and Rose with the green girl. Everyone else, you're on your own."

"Welcome back," he said, pacing as usual. "It's been a while, but we haven't forgotten you and I hope you haven't forgotten us. If you need a refresher, rules are on the gym door."

"And if you need a refresher after one week, you are most likely still hungover, and have no place on the mats," Ghanima replied. "Which is why we'll hit you anyway, so that you learn."

"Now then. You and you. Young lady, you're with her. And Azula, with me, please."

"Ghanima, I'm picking on your brother again," Tyler said. "Leto, with her. Steve, with him. And those two. Go hit each other."

"I can't say I disapprove," Ghanima laughed. "I think it's a sister's duty to help torment her brother."

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

"Ladies! Gentlemen. Boys. Girls. Other sentient life forms." Someone had given Tyler sugar. "Welcome to Fight Club. I'm Tyler Durden, this is Ghanima Atreides. We're in charge."

"Which is the nice way of saying 'welcome to Fandom,'" Ghanima injected dryly. "You're here because you saw a poster, or heard through a friend, and you want to hit things. We support violence therapy."

"Most weeks," Tyler said, "we do assigned matches. This week is different. This week is introductions -- because you haven't said your names enough yet this week -- and some level testing. Introductions don't have to be fancy. Fight Club is not about your life story. Tell us what you like to be called and how long you've been at this and we'll call it good."

"After which, those of you that are new or trying to move from beginner to advanced can show us your moves, while the rest of you grab a friend to beat up," Ghanima continued cheerfully. "Once we've seen you in action, then our new friends can also hit the mats, and proceed to learn how we make friends and influence people here at Fight Club. I'll give you a hint; it usually involves bruises."

"But first, you all have to listen to the rules."

Tyler pulled out a sheet of paper and read them off. "Hopefully those are all clear, if you do not understand ask somebody. If you still do not understand, consider the possible tragedy of head damage and don't fight."

He glanced to Ghanima. "Anything else?"

"These rules are posted on the door for every Fight Club meeting," she said pleasantly. "Anyone who willfully ignores these rules gets bounced out that door. We are here to fight, not babysit you."

"Now, smile, and introduce yourselves, and let's see what you can do."

Well, if one counted using the store's computer to have flamewars with people over the big news hitting the comics world as working hard.

"I think half the town's out of town," he said. "Me and him. You two. You and you, you and you. And this is Fred Dukes. He has something to say before we start. Fred?"

Fred wiped the back of his mouth with his ham of a hand. "I'm Fred Dukes, and I'm here to provide a damn public service. You think hitting a bag is fine and good, but it ain't anything like hittin' a person. That's where I come in. You need experience hitting a person, but ain't ready or wanting them to hit back? That's what I'm for. Though you make any disrespectful jokes, I get to punch you one right in the kisser." He looked over at Tyler. "That good enough for ya?"

"Perfect," Tyler smirked, and started pointing around the gym. "Matches there, practice there, Fred here. No makeup this week. Let's go."

Today's Very Special Edition of Fight Club was being brought to you by two things; Ghanima was running late so Tyler was in charge on his own, and Anakin had offered a dare.

Figuring he might not get the chance again, Tyler had quickly curtained off a segment of the gym area and set a few things up behind it. "Hi," he said laconically. "I'm back, and Ghanima will be here a little later. Before the fighting, I wanted to talk to you about the next phase of fight club."

He was not catching Anakin's eye if he was there for this. He'd laugh if he did.

"In Phase 2, we start trying to look good while we fight. Neat hair, nice workout clothes, manicured nails. if you're ready for that, go behind the curtain and get ready. Don't forget the hair gel."

"If you aren't ready, stay out here and fight. I won't judge. I think it's time for a match for ... you and you, wizard-boy and blondie, you, you, you and definitely you. Go for it."
