The day was finally here.

Fandom appeared to be cooperating: all the evidence of Friday's paint rain had gone away overnight. Envy's team had of course had a plan B about what to do to alter the theming of the wedding ceremony if they hadn't, but they'd been glad to put away the paint cans and just follow plan A instead, as -- well, planned.

So now the inside of Fandom's little church was decked in tasteful white flowers in extravagant numbers, with little bits of greenery to make them really pop. Whichever direction anyone happened to point a camera lens towards, they would always find the background pleasing and elegant. And they should appreciate that, because one person on the team had spent the past two weeks engineering and planning just that.

There was also a string quartet, playing something classical and light as people entered and found their seats.

And, of course, there was a smattering of music reporters sitting in the back, while one of Envy's assistants explained to them with endless patience and a soft, hushed tone that yes, their exclusives were still exclusive and not in conflict with each other when each of them were from a different universe entirely.

Everything was just about ready for the Adams-Wiggin wedding.

Come Friday evening, there was practically a festival area in the park. On one side stood a line of various food trucks, serving moddable food and beverages, courtesy of Envy and Peter's wedding budget. On the other, there was a merch booth for anything and everything Envy you might want - at least in terms of apparel or physical records. There was also a little cordoned off media area to one side of the stage, holding members of the music press from around the multiverse, ready to live-tweet the show back into their worlds.

And then, of course, there was the stage, looming over everything, just a little bigger than what a show in a small town park strictly speaking needed. The back of the stage was already lit up with giant block letters of made up of a gazillion light bulbs, spelling out ENVY. Just in case anyone forgot who tonight was really all about. (Or needed a reminder about who to Google.)

The paint rain across the island was still going, so hope everyone was either cool with continuing to be dyed various colors, or had brought an umbrella or perhaps a big newspaper to shield themselves with. Either way, the hope was everyone enjoyed themselves.

The rainbow in the sky over the island for Pride was tradition, any and all weather logic be damned, and it seemed to be especially -- almost defiantly -- bright this year.

And the festival's organizer wouldn't have it any other way.

The park was all decked out in rainbows, glitter, and miniature Pride flags of different varieties. The bounce house and ballpit slide were back again to serve as the centerpiece this year, as were the assortment of rides and very queer-themed carnival games.

The stage with its NPC bands and open-mic sessions was set up next to the picnic area, where an assortment of highly moddable foods had been provided by whichever restaurants Steph had strong-armed into prevailed upon to contribute. Tables and booths were set up on the other side of the picnic area for any vendors or local businesses that wanted to take part, but don't worry, no one was going to try and get you to sign up for a credit card or anything like that. Steph would have personally beaten anyone who tried that over the head with their own clipboard.

Happy Pride, Fandom! Have at it.

Well, it was just one of those busy days in Fandom, it would seem. Because Jane arrived to the bar to find it had been decorated by Tino in a way that was almost, kinda cute? There were stars and planets and a sun. It was the sort one might find in a science classroom in grade school.

And Tino, of course, was wearing an astronaut helmet for reasons Jane didn't ask to know. Because Tino. Even the specials looked decent for once! Suspiciously so, honestly.

If any of the guys on the island thought they might get away with not being forcibly invited to an all night slumber party- which they shouldn't, since they would not have been expecting it- better luck next time.

It was the exact same setup as the other warehouse, with a couple changes. Because really, why should guys have to go without the typical slumber party experience?

Belle had left her room intending to go to the common room. Instead she found herself inside the ice cream shop.

The ice cream shop that was newly refurbished after its whole hole ordeal. There were signs everywhere, including outside on a sandwich board though Belle couldn't get a good view of that when she tried to step outside, proclaiming "WE GOT THE SMELL OUT" as well as "FREE TOPPINGS FOR HOLE PEOPLE (we have a list)" and "TRY OUR NEW FLAVORS!!"

"New flavors?" Belle asked. She wasn't overly familiar with the older ones but she did enjoy trying new foods. The girl behind the counter grinned and pointed to a list at the counter.

DARK AS A HOLE: Dark chocolate ice cream with dark chocolate chunks
LIGHT AT THE END OF THE HOLE: Dark chocolate ice cream with marshmallows

There were also piles of business cards on the tables with #NotAllRaccoons printed on them, for some reason.

Rey was still patrolling, and she hadn't figured anything out except that the holes didn't trigger any danger sense if they didn't happen around her, since she'd missed every time someone or something vanished. So that was great. It would have helped a ton if she didn't think this was all way more random than it actually was.

Did she stop in at the Perk for the sole purpose of trying to jinx herself, like maybe one would appear as soon as she had something she normally wouldn't want to spill, even if she wasn't actually drinking it? Yes. You never knew in this town.

Jaina had been meaning to get back here for months, specifically because of a certain girl who sounded pretty destined to duke it out with Jaina's alternate universe brother of sorts who'd gone evil. (It deeply bothered Jaina that she did not find that weirder.) This was of course easier said than done, thanks to a not-Jedi school and children and an Empire to run, so it'd taken till now.

If she was being honest, she was maybe- maybe- a little tiny bit nervous. She'd never met anyone who'd had her role before, and she was probably going to have to get into some things she'd dealt with and now generally tried to avoid. But since she didn't hedge around the hard stuff, she met that nervousness with more coffee while she waited.

Rey didn't have much of anything to do today, On Jakku, that had usually meant fixing something up that she already had to sell, on the Falcon it meant helping Chewie with repairs. Always something to help be better prepared for whatever was coming. Here, apparently, that meant figuring some things out.

She had found some stones and was attempting to skip them across the water. Quite a few had sunk, because s desert-bound girl hadn't ever had reason to do this before, so there was a lot of sinking of rocks until she realized which shapes worked better. And then once she could get it to start skipping, she started trying to control where the stone skipped, frowning in concentration and flicking out her hand to try and piish it in the direction she wanted.

She wasn't perfect by any means, but to her constant surprise it was actually going better than she'd thought, and it got easier every time.

Ben had been at work like a good little employee, especially since this hadn't been a week where he could call out due to insanely dangerous conditions, but then he'd taken lunch and found one of those fire flowers he and Jaina had talked about yesterday.

And then he could shoot fire which was astral.

But Tony had probably not wanted for his lab to burn down now matter how cool fire powers were, so that's why Ben's shift had ended a little early and he'd spent the last few hours shooting fireballs into the water and giggling to himself.

It was cold, dark, and threatening to snow, which was Eric's favorite kind of weather, which was why he was in an excellent mood as he wandered down to the Devil's Nest to make sure Tiny was manning the bar to his satisfaction.

The new DJ (it was always a new DJ) looked panicked as Eric came in, stammering something about equipment malfunctions and how very sorry he was before fleeing into the night, leaving the bar listening to "If You Like Piña Coladas" --and only that song--at a volume that was just too loud to be ignorable.

"If you make piña coladas a special tonight, I will snap your neck," Eric told Tiny flatly before disappearing to his normal seat in the VIP area.

The nicest part of winter was how quickly the sun went down in the evenings--gave a vampire a lot more time to get things done before bleeding from the ears and eyes, catching fire, and dying, etc., etc.

Finally back from settling some accounts in Louisiana (and jacking up the prices at Fangtasia in preparation for the Mardi Gras crowds), Eric was back in Fandom, settled into his normal spot well away from the bar.

Yesterday, Karla had made a very important promise. She'd promised Val a day at the playground and there was no way she was going to renege on that. Thus, Thursday afternoon found Kayla swinging on the swings in the park, while Karla sat on a nearby bench, holding Nommy, and pushing Kayla's swing with Craft. At her feet was a sizable picnic basket, filled with sandwiches, juice in both sippy cups and bottles, Kayla's 'spinkles,' a small island's worth of bananas, and even a bit of ice cream wrapped in cooling spells. Karla had packed extra just in case; she figured Ender had probably gotten all the sandwiches he needed during his class (yes, she remembered), but there was always the chance that Ben would join them. Or other people would wander by. It wasn't like Fandom lacked for hungry kids of varying ages even on normal weekends.

"Mommy, push me higher!" Kayla called. "Pleeeeeeeeease!"

"Nope!" Karla called back, nets of Craft still invisibly hovering in the air to either side of Kayla's swing. "You tried to jump off the swing last time. Now you have to stay low until I'm sure you won't do it again."

"But I was gonna flyyyyy!" Kayla's tiny wings fluttered on her back, trying to increase the height of the swing.

"And this is why the answer is still no," Karla said with a sigh. Looking down at the infant in her arms, Karla shook her head. "I can't wait till your wings come in and I get to chase both of you," she told her sleeping son. "Maybe I'll just borrow an entire herd of Scelties from Khary and let them take turns sitting on you till you're grown."

"Okay, how about we get some ground rules about touch each other's things?" Tony suggested.

The Tony his age responded with an eyeroll and a, "You know, I owned this place first."

Upon entering the Town Hall tonight, dance attendees might notice a very definite theme tonight! A very definite, very sparkly theme tonight, with enough glitter strewn around the place that there were, in fact, glitterdrifts piling up around the edges of the dance floor. Soooo the carnival was out this year, due to that whole murder carnival this summer. But it did bring the arrival of the Homecoming Fall Festival, which was open nice and early for everyone to get playing around and mingling. You might even be enticed to come in just by the dulcet sounds of the zombie band playing at the concert stage. Yeah, that was a thing that was happening.

There was plenty of new fall-themed stuff going on to see and explore, and who doesn't want to catch up with everyone who's come into town for the weekend? Come one, come all, and remember to stick around for the parade! Because this was a town full of stairs and that was gonna be interesting.

Had the carnival changed? Retreated? No, but perhaps it had filled up even worse over the past twenty-four hours or so.

The look on that mustached man's face certainly exuded a certain amount of triumph as the lights went on again early on Sunday morning. He stabbed the ground with his cane and watched; if experience counted for anything, then there would be yet more pouring into his carnival today.

The feeding was good, here.

That scent of cotton candy rolled over the island once more, and the carnival's music touched what it could not.

It wasn't, in the strictest sense of the word, really Ben's 24th birthday; relativistic space travel had a habit of making your age largely meaningless, a number rough to keep track of. After all, in an absolute sense, Ben was turning somewhere between a hundred and two hundred years old today, if not more, and that was assuming that it was still July 27th on their calendar, never mind any other number of factors that came into play when you crossed universes and space-time in all the ways they had.

So Ender felt that there was no real problem with having a party that wasn't, in the strictest sense of the word, a party. He'd gotten an ice cream cake the previous day and hidden it in Ben's moving mini-freezer-- the same freezer that he'd deposited on the beach just an hour ago by itself, trusting it to defend itself. (Ben had made it. Of course it would.)

He'd left some of Ben's friends some cordial messages mentioning the date last night handwavily but included no real imperative to be here, just a mention of the place and time. If that meant they'd have a quiet celebration with just the two of them and an ice cream cake, so be it. He wouldn't complain.

Now? Now he was back on the beach with a picnic blanket, waiting for Ben to come on by on his daily run.

The Community Center was decorated in Fandom's signature blue and gold, with streamers and flags and the odd Fighting Gremlin banner. There was a tasteful amount of glitter among the decorations, assuming that person in charge of taste was a four year old hyped up on candy and Red Bull while huffing glue made from unicorns.

In short, Fandom's alumni, ex-pats, and current teachers should feel right at home, nostalgia hitting them right in the sinuses.

You're welcome, Fandom alumni. Don't forget to donate to the Alumni Association!

Jaina had always meant to come back to Fandom a lot more often than she did these days. She'd just gotten busy with work, and family stuff, and having a very busy boyfriend who lived planets away in another government. But she had a few days free without anything bad happening, and and Jag was coming to Coruscant next week and once that happened her time was probably going to be eaten up even more.

She got to town later than intended (stupid portals) and of course the first thing she did was head to the Perk, where she got coffee and sent a text to people letting them know she was in town. Then she got to trying to catch up on radio broadcasts since she'd been gone, realizing that she was pretty okay with things being mostly normal back home.

Since there was no need for a mid-summer welcome picnic, the administration had splashed out on this one: the tables (located under giant tents) were groaning with sidedishes from corn on the cob to potato chips to baked beans to several dodgy-looking jello salads and the grills were set up along the beach cooking chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs and veggie burgers. There was an ice cream sundae bar, watermelons, enough lemonade and ice tea to swim in (please don't swim in it), coolers for more adult beverages if you were an adult or sneaky about it, and areas roped off for tug of war and relay races and pick-up softball games if people were in the mood to be more active than just stuffing their faces and waiting for it to get dark.

The music was playing loudly--one of the more esoteric of the zombie band's offerings--and the sun was shining. It's hot, it's humid. It's the 4th of July and there's plenty of free food to go around. Come on over!

Anyone strolling past the beach this fine Sunday morning would find an odd sight: a kitten, sprawled atop a komodo dragon, a large nexu flopped over on his side next to them.

Occasionally either the kitten or the nexu would stir. Someone would get growled at, or someone would reach out and bat at somebody else's tail.

At which point the komodo dragon would snap his jaws and both felines would crawl back to their assigned spaces.

The glitter was relatively modest for the brunch, by Fandom terms -- which still left enough on the statues moved over from the dance and other decorations to blind a small child. Ben and Ender had a date for Greek food tonight, which meant that Ben's attention was only half on his work at the shop today--the rest of it was trying to learn how to pronounce "spanokopita."

It wasn't going well, but at least it wasn't raining lemons?

The shop was open!

If they were back on the island for the summer, it didn't seem right that one of them wasn't working at Stark's during at least part of it, so Ben had picked up his old Friday shift.

Today Ben was reacquainting himself with the inventory between answering the occasionally odd phone message or text. Yes, Ben had been through weird phone days before, but was entertained by them each time.

The shop was open!

It was a Fandom tradition that went back... well, at the very least several years: graduation brunch, offering visitors and locals alike the best food available on the island.

There was a banner that stretched from tree to tree declaring CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2013 in big glittery letters. There were tables full of moddable food and drink. There were happy decorations in blue and yellow and a long series of picnic tables for people to sit at and mingle.

And then there was the bit at the end where Mayor Swanson was barbecuing an entire pig's worth of food. Uh... Yeah.

Inside one of the previously abandoned warehouses was now a club. A virtual reality club, to be exact, with lots of neon lights in green and purple, and virtual reality glasses abound, through which you could see a virtual reality... with 8-bit graphics. But still! (Don't ask where all the stuff had come from. It was better if you just didn't ask.) And behind the bar, there was a woman: super blonde, in tight shiny clothes, with long gloves on her hands and a collar around her neck.

You might even get in without being Swedish! But Katerin might not let you participate in a VR race if you're not.

It was awfully quiet on the causeway - what with it being graduation weekend, Ender had expected more... well, more people. Not that he had an issue with peace and quiet. It just... struck a strange chord.

"Your Portalocity people screwed up," Jane whispered matter-of-factly in his ear. "You're a week early."

... Of course. This was the last time Ender put any stock in portals.

He made a big fuss of taking his Earth phone and checking it over, frowning at it as he typed. "Ben?" he said. "This is April 26th."
