Alumni Dinner and Potluck, Community Center, Friday Evening

The Community Center was decorated in Fandom's signature blue and gold, with streamers and flags and the odd Fighting Gremlin banner. There was a tasteful amount of glitter among the decorations, assuming that person in charge of taste was a four year old hyped up on candy and Red Bull while huffing glue made from unicorns.

In short, Fandom's alumni, ex-pats, and current teachers should feel right at home, nostalgia hitting them right in the sinuses.

You're welcome, Fandom alumni. Don't forget to donate to the Alumni Association!

In one place, the invitation had said listed the dresscode as 'casual-formalwear.' In another, it was 'formal-casualwear.' Whatever that meant for clothing, it included a DJ, armed with only his collection of 'Easy Listening', and an open bar, but the food was served buffet style, with everyone helping themselves.

Hoped you still liked 'Kiss from a Rose' after the sixth playing tonight, folks!

There's a lovely reception before dinner, complete with plenty of chatting and a chance to catch up and/or complain about the DJ. Sorry to all you lurkers out there, the whole room is brightly lit, which means no shadowy corners for you.

There are a few tall plants around, if you wanted to fight for who got to hide behind one or something.

Ender wasn't going to fight over anything, thank you. He was going to be perfectly pleasant for the short span of time he intended to be here, talk to some of the alumni he hadn't seen in years, and then retreat to do something more useful.

Please don't pay attention to the Bluetooth earpiece clipped to his ear. It wasn't like there was anyone snarking at him through it. Really.

"You should've baked your own cake."

Warren was here and looking pretty damn ruffled. There had been several nightmarish stopovers on the way to the island, after all. He'd given Portalocity strict orders to give them the most scenic, exciting non-direct route to the island that they possibly could.

Why?

Because Karla had baked a cake. While he and Cook hadn't been looking.

And the cake had made it here. In one piece. In spite of their best efforts.

Warren had failed you all and for that, he was truly sorry.

Yeah, so what if Reno was a teacher here these days? He'd done his time as a student of Fandom, and at events like these, he was always interested in seeing if any of the people who showed up were people he had gone to school with, rather than people he'd taught himself.

He was merrily passing his mingling time by picturing all the different ways he could murder the DJ tonight and not get in shit for it.

It probably went without saying that Jonothon didn't come to these things for the food, and not just because he knew some of the people who were doing the cooking.

The lack of a shadowy corner to hide in had him just the slightest bit disgruntled, but he made do by slipping into a corner anyway, arms crossed and leaning his shoulders back against the wall, content to people-watch until somebody familiar caught his eye.

Anything that dragged Jim out of Iowa was something he appreciated. He'd just been here but heading back for a few days? He wasn't going to complain and he definitely wasn't going to be hiding behind plants.

After dealing with the Dark Council and then realizing they still had almost a week of Winsol festivities to get through, Karla had decided she was just tired of dealing with the Blood. The invitation to visit the island was clearly a gift from the Darkness.

The trip to get here was much less so. But still, they'd arrived and that was what was important.

Hoshi was definitely not feeling casual or formal. She had to catch her portal just minutes after her shift ended, so she was still in her uniform. She listened carefully to see if she could hear any of her friends as she made a circuit of the room.

Elphaba thought it seemed proper to attend, even if she wasn't one for big events anymore. A black cocktail dress was what qualified as formal-casualwear for her, though she was just about ready to turn right around when she saw the decor.

There was no such thing as a tasteful amount of glitter.

She'd just get a drink and inspect this tall plant for a bit, that would qualify as being social, certainly?

Hannibal might not have been here long enough that his students would be returning as alumni, but some of his friends might be, so here he was. He had no idea what "casual formal" was supposed to be, so had opted for a top-notch suit.

The Bar

It's open and well-stocked with a variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, though the bartenders don't look like they're checking ID.

Did you know that alcohol has been proven to help ignore glitter? It's true!

Look, Emma had spent the last ten days handwavily trapped in her apartment as an ermine. As a result, she had missed classes, work, and two parties. None of which were going to buy her usual telepathy-backed 'I had mono again' excuse for being missing for so long. So when she had seen the invite from Fandom, she'd immediately booked her portal and gotten the hell out of New York before anyone could question her before she came up with a good excuse.

Which was why she was at the bar, tormenting the bartenders while they made her yet another martini. Alcohol was wonderful for coming up with creative excuses.

Dinner

There are several long trestle tables set up in the dining area, covered by bright yellow tablecloths with big, blue polka dots. There are blue ceramic plates at the ends of each table to facilitate self-serving.

There's a table for appetizers, entrees, sides, and desserts. Plenty of moddable food has been donated by various businesses, but there were places where people could leave their own potluck offerings. Little signs were available to write down the name and country of origin providing the food.

There are several backdrops to choose from. Some are really weird because they'd been bought at a discount. Others had been bought because they were perfect for Fandom.
