Around town- Monday afternoon

Rey was still patrolling, and she hadn't figured anything out except that the holes didn't trigger any danger sense if they didn't happen around her, since she'd missed every time someone or something vanished. So that was great. It would have helped a ton if she didn't think this was all way more random than it actually was.

Did she stop in at the Perk for the sole purpose of trying to jinx herself, like maybe one would appear as soon as she had something she normally wouldn't want to spill, even if she wasn't actually drinking it? Yes. You never knew in this town.

She wanted a small, force sensitive child to float his little pod on over to her, right? That's what she wanted.

Because there Grogu was, sans armored bodyguard.

Honestly, yes. Everyone should want this. He'd even get a smile!

"Hi," Rey greeted him, looking around for said bodyguard. "Are you alone?"

Grogu went through a very long, very rambling story via the force about how both the ice cream and his kinda-dad were swallowed up by the ground and but he was pretty sure his kinda-dad would be back soon. He did this sometimes, you know?

Rey got more concerned as she listened- and not hearing actual words would probably always be weird- but at least he seemed okay about it?

"Is the hole still there?" Rey asked, in case it was still active.

Yeeeeah, that got her a tiny shrug. Mostly because he'd just gone looking for the nearest person who wouldn't let him get captured by the bad people.

So congrats on being on that list!

"Do you want to come with me?" she asked.

Would he get ice cream was the real question here.

"We can pick some up," she told him.

Well then. Grogu nodded and the pod floated over toward her in acceptance of this offer.

"Okay," she said, offering him a smile. She was just going to be relieved he wasn't wandering around on his own now. "I've been trying to find out what's going on. So hopefully we can find your..."

Uhhh what word to use here?

"...friend soon."

Cop out.

Parentfriendbodyguard. That worked for him!

Grogu cooed happily, settling into 'step' with her.

"Weird question," Ben said, trotting up. "Do you know where the ice cream shop went?"

"In a hole," Rey said, and then, because she didn't know Ben that well but she knew, she said, "I'm very sorry."

He was a grown man with two kids but he still looked very sad to hear that. "Have we figured out why?"

Why did terrible things happen to innocent ice cream shops? And, you know, the people.

"I wish I knew," she sighed. "I've been hoping to catch one, but I've never been in the right spot, and apparently I'm not doing anything that might cause them."

Some people might just like, go to the cops, this girl was trying to make a hole to check it out.

"Me either," Ben said, frowning. "Is there a pattern yet that you've seen?"

"Not that I've been able to figure out. Nothing pings my danger sense, so I guess it's sudden? Sometimes buildings go, though I don't think they've disappeared without people going, too," she said.

And sometimes tiny green children in pods got left behind!

"Well, maybe keep checking on the Perk," Ben said. "If that one goes, there'll be rioting."

"I've been surprised people haven't been more worried," Rey admitted. "So now I'm almost hoping the Perk goes."

[momslilassassin]

"You lose someone?" Ben guessed.

[thatwaslucky]

"My boyfriend is missing." Not lost, because that felt... well, she didn't like the way that sounded.

"And his bodyguard friend," she said, nodding towards Grogu.

She was working for him, too, now.

Grogu batted those big ol' muppet eyes up at Ben like he was having some kriffing weird as all get out deja vu. Or maybe a vision of a different future with that whole Skywalker jam.

But mostly he just offered a sticky hand out to Ben.

"Hello there," Ben said, absolutely delighted. "Who are you?"

Grogu, but he totally would listen to 'kid' or 'hey you' or 'womp rat' but only when said affectionately for the last one.

Also only by his parentfriendbodyguard who was a Mandalorian and super cool. So. There was that exposition dump via the force, Ben and Rey.

"Wow," Ben said, wincing slightly and holding his head. "Haven't done that in a while. You should meet my son Bantha. He loves talking in his head."
