The picnic shelters were decorated with gold streamers, of both the crepe paper and shiny metallic sort, and the appetizing scent of breakfast foods grilled by NPC staff filled the air. Bright summer flowers were draped over anything you could drape bright summer flowers over, with far less subtlety than there'd been at the dance, since this was out in the open air and people could get away from them if they so chose.

The sounds of summer in musical form -- not chosen by the provider of the flowers, no -- played lightly in the background.

The dance was still in full swing. It was still brightly decorated, the music was still pumping and the punch was completely spiked.

Have fun!

While the students had been completing their last finals, an NPC staff had been hard at work converting one of the empty warehouses into the site of tonight's dance. When the guests arrived this evening, they'd be greeted by a long yellow carpet, leading up to the open glass doors of the warehouse.

Once inside, they would find the space brightly decorated to celebrate the summer season. Gold drapes covered the walls, splashed liberally with glitter to make them sparkle in the low lights of the warehouse. Flowers were placed here and there, not overwhelming but definitely noticeable and fragrant. Images of beaches, palm trees, sunsets, sunrises, hammocks, and other various summer images were being projected on the walls randomly.

A long table consisting of food and drinks was along one wall, providing plenty of sustenance for everyone for their long night of fun. Dark corners could be found here and there, of course. There was music playing and a disco balls projecting light onto the dance floor.

It was time for the summer dance.

It was the day before graduation. The day before pomp and circumstance, diplomas, smiling seniors and proud guests. What better way to spend that day then partying the night away? That's right, tonight was the night of the senior lock in! Many NPC workers had been busy in town, cleaning up and setting up an abandoned warehouse for the event.

Now, the front of the warehouse was lit up with neon signs and stanchions that would lead the seniors into a huge building where not one speck of floor space wasn't being used for something fun. There was loud music pumping through the building and strobe lights were swirling around the area, lighting up the room in blues, reds, greens, yellows and various other colors. Decorations of all kinds painted the walls, giving the room a party like atmosphere.

Of course, it would just be a regular ole party, right? Nothing surprising would happen, right? Oh, of course. No surprises. Riiiiiight.

The senior lock in was open and it was time for the seniors to get their party on!

With graduation this weekend, the school expected most of the graduation guests to begin arriving today. So, to make sure they felt welcomed, the student council had set up a small gathering in the park where the guests could arrive, mingle and relax before heading off with their guests and friends.

There were finger foods on a long table and nametags on the table beside it. Chairs were set out for people to sit and talk if they so wanted.

It was time to get graduation weekend rolling!

[This is just a tiny mingling posts for all grad guests, alums, expats, students, teachers and townies to meet up and talk a little. There's going to be a garage sale later and we encourage you all to go to that as well!]

KKG Meeting: The Beach

It was warm-ish. It was after classes. KKG was meeting on the beach.

Call it an excuse for lots of pretty boys to wear swim trunks in the presence of anyone who had handwavily heard about this completely open meeting of the minds.

Maybe some of the boys would even work up a nice sheen of sweat playing volleyball (but not in jeans, okay?) or running after a frisbee.

It was Earth Day after all.

With the law office now open, Lee's first day of actual work was now in front of him. Of course, he didn't expect too much to go down and, if it did, he was deferring it all to Mr. Murdock while he watched but it was still nice to be working. Maybe his father would even crack a smile when he told him.

Doubtful but sometimes hope was nice to have.

Still, the office was open, Lee was at the desk, paging through one of his grandfather's books and, somewhere, the lawyer jokes were just waiting to be used.
[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com
It would have been impossible to miss...whatever the frak they were in the sky. And Lee had no intention of purposefully missing them by staying inside where it was safe. He was naturally curious and naturally stupid which meant he was going outside.

He had a gun, don't worry.

Not that it was doing much right now considering Lee was frakking RUNNING from the harpies, taking occasional shots over his shoulder before they'd get sly to his game and chuck rocks and dirt and mud at him. The rocks cut his face, the dirt and mud got him dirty and...he wasn't even going to think about the other things that he felt.

He could see the onsen in front of him, looming large and he could feel the harpys at his back, talons nipping at his shirt and scratching his neck.

There was only one thing to do. He holstered the gun and dove into the onsen, staying underwater for as long as he could. That stung the various gashes and bruises he had but it was cover.

Sort of. Frak.

[Hahahaha, open, of course! I had to.]

Matt had only just gotten in to see HA the office and if it had been set up yet. There were books to be shelved and files to be put away, but the movers had done a surprisingly good job with the furniture.

Of course, setting up the fax machine may bring a few problems, but he'd cross that bridge when he got to it.

Or after he answered his phone. )

Even with the sun out, it was still fairly chilly on the causeway, creating a brisk reminder of what everyone would be leaving behind for the next week as they traveled through the Caribbean.

As the students, teachers, and guests gathered to wait for the portal to Florida, everyone was given a copy of their lodging information and a trip itinerary to peruse:

Arrivals to town hall would notice that the Student Council took a darker approach to the decorations this year. The colors of the streamers, balloons and table cloths were in shades of dark red and black. Instead of cut outs of hearts and pictures of cupid, there were broken mirrors hanging on the walls, open umbrellas scattered about the room, fake cobwebs on the wall and glittery cut outs of the number "13" hung everywhere.

You even had to walk under a huge ladder in order to get into the dance.

Sure, they were tempting fate by having a Friday the 13th themed dance but this was Fandom. What's the worst that could happen?

After sending off her E-mail and running trying to get everything bought at the last second, Brooke set up at the beach. There were totally moddable drink fixings and snacks on a fold-out table covered nicely with a tablecloth because a folding table kind of killed the natural decor, there was music, and she'd been thoughtful and put out little bottles of suntan oil and sunblock out because in December people were probably not prepared.

Some days Brooke loved this town. Today was totally one of them.

As the sun went down, the twinkling fairy-lights that had been strung around the park took its place as a light source. Not nearly as big, but it was enough to see the food and the dance area by, with the help of some strategically placed torches in the shape of old-fashioned gaslamps. Nor nearly as warm, but there were carefully-controlled braziers here and there to take the nip out of the evening air.

Around the dance area and along the buffet tables there was a proliferation of orange, brown and rust-coloured harvest flowers that might have bordered on excessive, as if someone got rather excited about being offered a job this important, but it was still within the bounds of good taste.

Jolee and Tino were stocking plenty of clean glasses behind the bar. This weekend meant family. Family meant drinking. It was a fact of life. It's part of the reason why Jolee never bothered with a family after breaking from the Jedi: he preferred sobriety.

The preparations ended when the door opened and Jolee felt an all-too familiar presence. "I'm sorry, Tino, but it looks like you're on your own tonight," he said, turning to face Revan. "We'll be in the lounge if you need me for anything."

By some act of Fandom, the weather was behaving itself. Any clouds or rain the weather forecasters had blathered about on the news seemed to have skipped over the entirety of Fandom Island. It was a perfect afternoon in October, just the right temperature in which to spend the day outside with pleasant company. Or even relatives.

A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a bright banner announcing the start of a hopefully calm weekend:

Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of judging watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

It wasn't unusual for Adah to be ready for what she needed to do before it needed to be done or, in this current situation, before she could do it. Most of her things had been shipped for convenience, so Adah sat at the base of a tree in the park with one simple, small suitcase beside her and a notebook in her lap. She had a bit still until her cab should arrive at the causeway to take her to the airport for her flight back to Georgia and back in 1963, but that suited her just fine. It gave her a chance to work on one final tribute to Fandom as she passed the few, slowly dragging hours that remained. Sitting, and sketching. Wildlife, but not the birds or plants that took form in her usual sketches. No, she was sketching squirrels today, many of them. And all of them dying horrible, realistically scribbled deaths.

It was analeptic, really, interrupted only occassionally by a slight sigh and a lift of her eyes, casting her gaze around the park as she tried to not think about how much she'd miss this place, before checking her watch again, seeing how long she had, and then returning to her sketching until it was time.

[[ Adah's last post as a student! Open, of course, for any parkly needs but especially any lingering good-byes! I should be mostly around, but I'll likely disappear for just a wee bit for foodishness ]]

Lee didn't really want to get out of bed but he figured the longer he stayed there, the more he'd get bored, restless and irritated with himself.

So, he rolled out of bed, dressed a little painfully and headed down to the beach to sit in the sand and enjoy the quiet of the ocean and the wind.

Things didn't hurt that badly today. Of course, he hadn't look in a mirror (and he wasn't planning on it). Maybe he'd go for a swim later.

Or not. It was kind of cold out.

As soon as Zoe heard Hades' announcement, she headed to Town Hall.

Actually, the first thing she did was let out a string of profanity that would have made Mal blush, and if Grace picked any of it up later, she would only have herself to blame. Then she took Grace, promising John they'd be safe, and headed to Town Hall. She handwavily contacted the others in charge on the way, and started working on a plan for how to take care of Hades. At the moment, the plan involved a lot of violence on her part.

If anyone asked, which she doubted that they would, but if they did, Adah was prepared. It wasn't the weather, which she had so dutifully dismissed as not her type of weather in the slightest, that had dragged Adah and her limp and her book outside, into the sand, where her toes dug into where the waves would roll up to lick them bashfully before retreating back. It was simple that she had finished the forward read through Paradise Lost and now that she was embarking on the backwards read through, she had to reverse her situation to match the reversal of words. Inside to outside, back to front.

Besides, she realized that she hadn't enjoyed the feeling of warm sand beneath her in a long while, although she had to admit to liking a chill in the air over this warmth, for reasons that would, of course, remain unspoken.

Not far from where the Skeleton Tea had been held earlier in the day, there was a tent that had been erected, with thiny, gauzy material and bone-like poles. Not dirty. The lights were soft as the evening grew darker, casting a welcoming, yet vaguely spooky illumination on the proceedings.

The proceedings of PROM.

One side of the tent was open, backing against a grove of trees; there were a few lights among them, but for the most part they offered shadowy nooks for anyone who wished to be a bit apart from the main action. The rest of the tent was enclosed, save for the entrance, and the same skeletons who'd worked the Tea earlier were at the refreshments table, ready and willing to serve any students or chaperones who approached. At one end of the table was the ballot box for prom court voting.

The music was just getting started, and the dance floor was yet to fill up, but regardless, Fandom High Prom 2008 was underway!

Across the town, the school, and the dorms, fliers had been put up to inform everyone of a town meeting taking place tonight (with a bold, capitalized note at the bottom warning everyone to be careful getting to the town hall). Zoe waited for as many people as possible to arrive and get settled before she got up and addressed the crowd.

"Thank you all for coming on such short notice tonight," she said. "We wanted to get everyone together to share some new information that was found today. Our researchers have found some possible evidence concerning the angels, and some of the people who have gone missing." She picked up the notes she'd been given, and read what the researchers had found.

"As much as I don't want to do this, I need to ask for volunteers," she continued. "We need people to go and get this information, or to talk to these folks, so we can figure out how to stop the angels, and get everyone back. I won't turn away students who want to help, but you're going to be sent with adults to make sure all of you come back in one piece. If you want to stay here, that's perfectly fine. I want to remind all of you that there are safehouses being set up throughout town, to make sure that no one has to be alone right now. Travel in numbers, and always look around you. If you do that, you'll stay safe. I'll be here to answer any questions, and to take the names of those who want to volunteer. The floor is open for anyone who has something else they'd like to say."

[OCD is up! If you're on one of the away teams, you can handwave coming to the meeting and volunteering, if you want.]

Arrivals to the town hall for the dance would find it decorated with darker, richer colors, from the draping streamers to the balloons scattered around to the runner on the snacks table. At the entrance, there was even a table with a variety of masks available for those who might not have brought their own, or were too damn lazy to get one, provided ever so graciously by Turtle & Canary.

And there wasn't a single speck of pink in the decorations. Nope. Not one. Turtle had made sure of it, even against the nefarious plottings of someone whose name may have rhymed with Peg Panning.

There was, however, still a lot of glitter. You could change the world, but you couldn't tempt fate.

It was possible that the administration had made a grave, grave mistake by leaving Vala in charge of organizing the Parents' Weekend mixer.

About two hours before sundown, a large fleet of trucks drove up, and an army of workers began setting up refreshments, a dance floor, and began scattering pillows on the ground around low tables. It was probably best not to ask how the workers were going to be paid, but they seemed happy enough as they worked.

A number of paintings that looked very, very much like they were painted by famous artists were hanging from the trees and spotlighted by citronella candles. Statues were also placed artistically on tables near the food. It was probably best not to ask from whence the artwork had come, either. Or whether it was real or a forgery.

Naturally there were discrete price tags placed on the trees or tables next to the artwork.

Hopefully the parents would feel welcome.

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

With his classes over for the week, Lee decided that he wanted out of the dorms. Once he was awake enough, he wandered his way down to the beach slowly, taking time to get his bearings, examine the area for quick exits and mentally map the town in his head.

It might be useful.

Once he'd arrived at the beach, he took a seat in the sand, far enough away from the water that he wouldn't get wet but close enough to hear the noise from the waves. The book he'd shoved in the back pocket of his shorts came out and he opened it up, rifling through the well worn pages.

Now, just to hope that it didn't rain. Or maybe he wanted it to rain. Who knows.

She was waiting for the sunset; she was waiting for her body to catch up from her day's traveling around the small down, marveling at its strange stone building, stone streets, as much a wonder to her as Atlanta had been when she'd stepped off the noisy, crowded, jolting bus and onto ground strangely, unnaturally solid. No red dust on her once-white sneakers, but there was now doing to be grass stains on her skirt from the cool blades beneath her. She ran the fingers on her left had idly through them.

The backwards of a sunset was a sunrise, but poetry of sunsets, backwards, were not, and she recited them in her head.

Past long things than more rememberance in writ,
Last sweetest is sweet, of taste, last as the
close, the at music and sun setting the.

It would be a while before Adah would feel herself ready to return to the dorms, to brave those stairs again. After her class, she chose to explore than return right away. She'd have to return soon. Soon. Not yet. Just soon.

fh_jackass: Logan Echolls (Default)
[personal profile] fh_jackass
Logan's house hasn't managed to aquire much clutter in the few days he's been living there, but there is half of a surfboard on the back deck. (It looks as though something bit it in half, and Logan himself has a bit of a limp, but he's not volunteering any explanations.)

The house is stocked and ready to go. The tiki torches have all been lit. Condoms are discreetly stashed in drawers all over the house, the liquor cabinet has been unlocked (though the really good stuff is hidden in Logan's room), and the kitchen has been filled with food and drink mixables.

The only room locked up is the utility room - one of the roommates has an important project stashed in there.

Logan's heated up the grill, taste-tested some of the alcohol, and now he's in the living room playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
