Like so many weekends before it, the calm of a September Saturday morning was interrupted by the unscheduled opening of a portal in the park. This one sprang to life in a blaze of blue and gold and a burst of glitter before settling into something more stable.

The first to flood out were a score of squirrels, followed by some alots, a few teal deer, and some gremlins who had left Fandom to seek their fortune through biting. Then humans, humanoids, and those we never asked about too closely came through the portal.

Welcome back to Fandom, alums! Even if you hadn't planned on being here this weekend!

[OOC: Feel free to establish your folks coming through if they aren't taking alternative methods to arrive! HAPPY TENTH ANNIVERSARY, FANDOM! Come hang out in the IM chatroom gogremlins if you have time to kill and want to catch up/squee/find out what people have done IRL over ten years...]

Had the carnival changed? Retreated? No, but perhaps it had filled up even worse over the past twenty-four hours or so.

The look on that mustached man's face certainly exuded a certain amount of triumph as the lights went on again early on Sunday morning. He stabbed the ground with his cane and watched; if experience counted for anything, then there would be yet more pouring into his carnival today.

The feeding was good, here.

That scent of cotton candy rolled over the island once more, and the carnival's music touched what it could not.

It's a new day, Fandom. Come, enjoy it.

The sun was out, as the sun always tended to be for these things, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Sure, there was a bit of pollen drifting about on the light breeze coming in from over the water, but it was really that time of year, wasn't it? Easy enough to explain something as simple as pollen to any people visiting today. Possibly less easy to explain that feeling that came along with it, of course.

Still, there was food and there were tables, and blue and gold decorations strung up through the park with glitter in abundance.

... Or was that more pollen?

April was pretty sure that no one in Fandom cared about health codes. She had heard a bunch of radio reports about people bringing pets or people-turned-into-animals to work with them, sometimes to establishments that served food. More to the point, even if the overwhelming population did care about health codes, April gave zero fucks.

So today, as an effort to a) promote the animal shelter she was working at, b) get lots of tips at Caritas, and c) stay out of her disgustingly hot apartment, today April set up shop at Caritas with a few boxes full of the shelter's cutest puppies. There were signs all over town directing people to Caritas for the puppy party and discounted drinks, and by two or three in the afternoon, someone had generously brought over some food, too.

There were plenty of refreshments and the opportunity to play with puppies. Seriously, everyone should come.

The weather was being kind - perhaps unnaturally so. There was a large gap in the clouds right above Fandom island, sending sunlight streaming down even as the sun made its way towards the horizon.

Perfect time for a beach party. More or less. The organizers were just happy the date they'd picked and put on all the invites looked like it was turning out sunny, okay?

There were coolers with lemonade and... other things, there were beach balls and there was sand: perfect excuse for a party, right?

If there was one thing a Fandom Dance could be guaranteed to have, it was glitter. Thus the abundance of glitter coating the hall decorations should have come as no surprise to the arriving guests, that a large number of said decorations were pterodactyl-shaped may have.

But the theme was 'Love is in the Air', and if you did not agree that the mighty the pterodactyl was the most romantic of flying creatures, then maybe the winged cow was for you. Or perhaps the helicopter.

In any case, there were open doors, and unspiked punch, and the 2013 Valentine's Day dance was ready to welcome you all.

Eric would have hosted the New Year's Eve party at the Devil's Nest, but he suspected that the students wouldn't appreciate his "no, no alcohol for you" stance and here in a different venue, he could avoid some of the liability. (Eric hadn't lived a thousand years by being a very stupid vampire.)

The ballroom was decked out far more classily than it had for school dances in shades of cream, silver, and black: there were sumptuous fabrics draped to soften the room , gilt mirrors to add light, and sparkling crystal because Eric liked expensive crystal. For those who ate, there was top shelf alcohol, more than enough champagne and all kinds of fancy appetizers (and pigs in blankets because shut up). For those who didn't eat, well, the bartenders wouldn't be suprised for requests of O Positive.

The DJ was playing the top 40 hits of the year, but could be persuaded to play anything that wasn't Justin Bieber (Eric had glamoured the hell out of him had a Talk with him, and now as far as the DJ knew, Justin Bieber didn't exist).

Happy New Year's Eve, Fandom. Put on your tuxedo and come party with a vampire.

...as you do.

Korra had been taking Naga for a stroll around the island, when they were accosted by a weird mutant polar bear dog. Which offered them a soda.

So, right, she was just going to stand here blinking while Naga went to go play with the weird looking polar bear dogs.

Upon the miraculous appearance of little Angelo-nee-Jims, Jonothon Evan Starsmore, the stunningly handsome and formerly ridiculously wealthy priest-in-training ex-rock-star descendant of the late Jack Starsmore, once heir of the vast Starsmore Fortune, estranged leader of the mighty and powerful Clan Akkaba, and recently stripped of Mysterious Powers of Which He Never Spoke... had felt a stroke of inspiration. If asked, he'd say that he was merely acting out the will of God, who had smiled upon him yesterday, letting him join the priesthood and take young Jims Angelo under his watchful eye.

But really, Jonothon just didn't want to risk losing his own bed and property when he made his poverty vows. He was still very new to this priesthood thing, and looking properly tormented all the time was difficult to do attractively when you didn't get enough sleep.

Either way, Fandom Island now had an orphanage on it, as was right and proper on weekends such as these. After all, there really wasn't any shortage of illegitimate lovechildren being passed about, was there? And this way, they could be raised properly, without the influence of sex, drugs, and illicit sushi to guide them away from the right path in life.

Rock and roll was still on the table, though.

[Open orphanage is open!]

Sure, with the advent of wee tinies, some of the booths in this section of the park had changed, but the spirit was still the same. Edible glitter and pictures of the huggable werewolf decorated the new and exciting hugging booths (cootie shots optional), dunk tanks (swimmies not optional), and pie tossing books. There were plenty of games and activities to be distracted by in the main carnival, and hopefully little attention spans would remember to head this way before their favorite targets left.

Today, when all the children awoke in their beds, they would discover a most joyous occasion! There was a carnival in town! A carnival just for them! All the rides and events were all child-safe and kid-friendly. Even the thematic decorations had become kiddified; no worries about nightmares from this little guy, huh? Didn't he look like fun? Don't you just want to give him a hug?

As for any remaining adults on the island, well...there was still a carnival, okay? Sure, the rides were a lot tamer and a lot brighter and you were possibly too tall to ride the them, but it was still a carnival! A carnival soon to be filled with the loud laughter of many, many children all hyped up on drinks and food that all listed 'sugar' as their prime ingredient!

Truly, this was a day of fun and laughter for all! And probably a night filled with headaches and belly-aches for most!

Huzzah!

Glitter seemed to be a theme of the evening. There was glitter on the posters covering the walls, glitter on the plants printed on table cloths. Glitter on the fake full moon hanging in place of a mirror ball.

And of course, glitter on the banner hanging above the entrance.

Welcome to Homecoming 2012

Yes, the park, really. It was partly cloudy but at least it wasn't raining? And there were two goals set up, so their favored patch of park actually looked a little more like a lacrosse field, though not by much.

And Jackson looked like his usual confident self. Perhaps even a little more smug than usual, though luckily it had very little to do with things at hand. "Hope you paid attention two weeks ago," he said to start things off. "'Cause today you play. Or try to. That's it. Split into two teams, and try to get your ball in the other team's goal. Let's see what you've got."

Jackson was betting it'd be amusing, if nothing else.

Kitty had no reason to participate in 3 Minute Dates, but she'd still shown up to handle the bar, and because it was really potentially entertaining. Of course, if anyone asked she'd probably say something like she wanted to make sure no one got so angry at a date that they did damage to the bar or something.

The bar was open for post-daters, spectators, and people who'd just wandered in on Saturday night, and your bartender was eying the puppy thing like she expected him to do something weird(er) at any moment.

A sign was posted at the front door:

Caritas Presents:
3 MINUTE DATES
with your host Yakko Warner

With a blare of trumpets signalling 8:00 PM, Yakko strode out onto the stage. "Welcome one, welcome all, to 3 Minute Dates here at Caritas. The normal guy couldn't be here tonight because who cares, so you're stuck with me. I know what you're thinking. 'Who signed me up for this anyway?' I was wondering the same thing myself, but I've learned not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Isn't that right, Stanley?" A horse wearing braces on his teeth and a present bow on his saddle came out onto the stage. Yakko held a hand up to stage whisper, "He's self-conscious about it."

"Anyway, without further ado," Yakko started.

"Bless you," Stanley said.

"Thank you, Stanley, let's get this started! When I honk this horn," Yakko said, honking a very comedic sounding horn, "We'll get started with the first round. Every time I honk it after that," Yakko said, squeezing the horn and having the 'crash and burn' noise come out of the horn, "your three minutes are up and it'll be time to move on. And just to make sure you're really on your toes with this timing thing...."

Yakko pulled the stage's curtain aside to show a big white disc standing up. Yakko jumped onto the disc and started using his hands as a minute and second hand on a clock.

And then, with the sound of a donkey braying, Yakko hit the horn. "Good luck!"

The sky was cloudy but the weather was just the right side of warm as the sun rose on the traditional Parent's Weekend Brunch. There were tables, chairs, and a buffet laid out with all manner of breakfast (and not-so-breakfasty) foods.

But that wasn't all, there was also a small gift bag for each guest with cookies, stickers, and a bingo card for anyone who hadn't gotten their mingle on enough this weekend.

It was time for the first ever meeting of the Fandom High Lacrosse Club. Jackson had handwavily sent an email to all those who'd signed up, telling them to get into sports clothes before meeting him in the park. He was there waiting for them with a sign that said FHLC, as if his mere presence and the lacrosse sticks and other gear on the grass right beside him weren't enough of a clue.

"Welcome to Fandom High Lacrosse Club," he said, once it looked like everyone who was going to show up had done so. "If that's not what you were expecting but you know what lacrosse is, stay." He was desperate for knowledgeable players, okay. You could tell by how he looked like it pained him to say the next bit, which was, "We're going to start off simple." Seriously, he could have grimaced at that. "First, you're gonna introduce yourselves to the group and maybe remind me again how little you know of the sport right now because this school has no respect for athletics. Then, we're going to start practising something very basic, which is shooting the ball where you want it to go. But first, introductions. Guess I'll begin."

He squared his shoulders a bit. "I'm Jackson Whittemore, and until moving here I was captain of the lacrosse team at my old school." He'd been co-captain for maybe like a day, so it didn't count. "Beacon Hills High has won the California state championship for the past three years. So yeah, I'm pretty good at lacrosse. Now, your turn." He pointed at someone at random. "You go first."

And once the introductions were done, Jackson went on to explain and demonstrate how to shoot in lacrosse. He pointed of towards a few trees where he'd fixed some cans to as makeshift targets. "See, I've put up some cans over there for target practise," he said, then rolled his eyes, "but at a beginners stage, you can probably just try aiming in the general direction of a tree, and we'll build up from there." Assuming he had the patience. "You can work at it alone or with partners, I don't care, I'll be looking at how all of you are doing and telling you what you're doing wrong." Whether they wanted him to or not. "Now, get your sticks and balls."

That comment alone had to make up for the lack locker rooms.

Like she did most mornings, Korra had taken Naga out for a stroll, lapping the island a few times to work off some of the polar bear dog's excess energy, before ending up at the cove.

While Naga chased gulls along the length of the shore, Korra stood at the tideline, watching the waves lapping up along the beach As the water ebbed and flowed, she could all but hear Katara's voice. Push and pull, Korra, that's the essence of waterbending.

Without really thinking about it, she moved her hands in a waterbending form so basic she couldn't even remember if her parents had taught it to her, or she'd just known it like with her early earthbending and firebending.

Nothing. Not even a splash.

Shoulders slumping, she sank down onto the sand.

[Open beach is open.]
