Giles was preoccupied when he opened the shop. The news from Sunnydale was... not good. He couldn't help wondering if things at the failed wedding would have been different if he'd been there, but he tried not to think about that too much.

Second guessing himself wasn't going to help anyone and his reasons for leaving were still as valid today as they had been when he left.

He settled in to work through some paperwork though his mind was many miles away.

The Magic Box was open.

Giles opened the shop, got himself a cup of tea and settled in to do paperwork.

He made a couple of phone calls back to Sunnydale to make sure the payments had gone through and that the florists hadn't been taken over by demons or vampires or other things that tended to happen on a Hellmouth. He couldn't quite bring himself to actually attend Xander and Anya's wedding, but he could at least make sure this one part of it went smoothly.

Giles opened that shop that morning in a good mood.

The spur of the moment trip he'd handwavily taken last week and had just returned from had been fruitful and he'd acquired a number of rare texts from an estate sale. They were being shipped and should arrive next week.

Plus, there were no strange golden eggs in his inventory this year so he doubted he was going to have cheeping bunnies come Sunday again.

So he was humming under his breath as he went through the accounts.

Giles spent a good portion of time trying to sweep the dust bunnies out the front door of the shop when he first arrived. The level of his success was negligible, as the amount of dirt and dust accumalating in the shop attested to.

He finally took a break and leaned against the counter with a cup of tea, eyeing the strange bunnies with a baleful eye.

Maybe Anya was on to something with her opinion of bunnies.

Giles made his way through the cold rain, breathing a sigh of relief when he made it to the shop.

Yes, he had grown up with weather more like this than what he'd been experiencing the last few years, but it was days like this that he felt a twinge of nostalgia for Southern California's climate.

There, all you had to worry about was the world ending. None of this near freezing rain nonsense.

Giles came into the shop that morning, brewed some tea and settled down to go through the records Anya had sent him from the Sunnydale shop. He tried not to read too much of what else might be happening into what he was reading.

Giles stopped and picked up a box of donuts and a coffee before he headed over to the Magic Box.

He'd been in a rather thoughtful mood most of the week. The news that there had been a demon on the island had of course been disturbing, but it was the news that there had been possessions that he kept fixating on. He'd found himself thinking about his youth and the playing with fire they'd done with Eyghon, volunteering to be possessed.

They'd been more than stupid and the only surprise was that it took as long as it had to blow up in their faces.

Giles sighed as he leaned on the counter and sipped his coffee, pondering the follies of the past, his own and others.

Giles was more than a little unsettled as he opened his shop. There was something in the air that was making him feel uneasy. He didn't know what it was, but he made sure he had weapons under the counter close at hand. Just in case.

Giles opened the shop and settled in with a cup of tea and an ancient book that had just been shipped to him. It was rumoured it talked about Slayers and gave hints of prophecy and he was hoping to judge for himself.

You never knew when you were going to read about the world ending, though it did seem more likely to happen on Tuesdays for some reason.

Giles shook the snow from his coat as he walked into the shop. The years in southern California had got him away from expecting weather of pretty much any kind and so things like snow struck him with a nostalgic novelty.

It meant that he was in a rather good mood when he put on some tea to brew and opened the shop.

A new year but the same old, same old, Giles thought as he unlocked the door to his shop. Granted, his same old was most people's extraordinary, "do I need to check myself into the psych ward?", but that just went to prove what the human spirit could get used to.

It being a new year had Giles thinking half heartedly about resolutions, but he wasn't sure what he could vow to do that he had any control over. It did however give him something to think about as he opened the shop.

Having heard about Angelus' return on the radio, it was a very somber Giles that came into the Magic Box.

He spent some time putting together some pamphlets with tips to avoid being a vampire victim and then put them out on the counter. He also put out a couple of containers with crosses and small vials of holy water in baskets on the counter with a sign that said "Free. To Hold Off Vampires. Please Take One.

Some things were more important than making a profit.

It was strange feeling like he had to shop for gifts for more than one version of some of the people on his list, Giles thought. But despite all the mixed feelings he had about what had happened and was happening in Sunnydale, he did still care for everyone and it would feel wrong not to send something. And equally wrong to send things back there and ignore the Fandom equivalents here. He wondered if it would be cheating if he got the same thing for each version...

And to top it all off, unless he wanted to give everyone something from Magic Box stock -- which admittedly he had considered -- he was going to have to use the computer to find and buy gifts. Wherever Jenny was now, she was probably laughing at him.

So after tidying the shelves, Giles sat down at the computer in the shop and grimly got down to the task of Christmas shopping.

It's possible Xander was doing research behind the counter. It's possible he was waiting for the latest episode of Supers to download and killing time by playing Boomshine despite the fact that he knew staring at that thing for more than an hour was like inviting a cluster-headache in for coffee and doughnuts. Because he was dumb that way.

At least he made sure the signs were up and the lobby doors were unlocked before he started trying to make himself go completely blind? Not dirty.

Giles was in a slightly better mood today, feeling like he was getting back into the routine here in Fandom. As weird as the place was, it was currently far easier to deal with -- even with having Faith as a neighbour -- than the situation back in Sunnydale.

He hadn't even called since he had left and while part of him thought he should, just to check in, a larger part of him just didn't want to deal with it all. Not yet.

So instead, he worked on moving some of the inventory around and planning out a holiday sale.

It was Giles' first time back in the shop since his trip to Sunnydale and it felt very strange. The place looked good, his student employees obviously had done a good job maintaining when he had been gone.

There was a fair amount of paperwork to catch up on and Giles threw himself into it as a welcome distraction.

Giles was in a rather thoughtful melancholic mood when he opened the shop, still reeling from Buffy's visit Saturday. It was very gratifying to see with his own eyes that in some universe Buffy survived and thrived, but at the same time it made him miss his Buffy all the more.

Having the shop was good though. If he hadn't had to be here to open it today, he probably would've spent the day holed up with a bottle of scotch. Much as he had the last two days.

Giles was rather bemused by Parents Weekend so far, mostly because he wasn't the school librarian who had to talk to any of them about their children. Just a random shopkeeper who could sell them souvenirs of their visit.

It was always nice when you weren't the center of any insanity going on.

He opened the shop and drank his tea and ate his jelly donuts waiting to see if he was going to make any sales today.

Xander has glittery signs on the door and coffee and doughnuts on the counter for anybody who comes in, but he almost seems more interested in his laptop -- and the unhelpfully negative e-mails he's reading from his contacts in Watchers' Council 2.0 regarding any recent surges in vampire activity on the east coast of the US -- than consuming mass quantities of heavily-sugared lardbombs. Whoa.

Or it could be that he's just had three already and is giving them a chance to settle before he goes back for seconds.

Giles unlocked the shop door while juggling a coffee and a box of jelly donuts. He'd spent the weekend and Monday ingrossed in translating some old Sumerian texts and so had missed all the memory excitement. The translation had been finished in the wee hours last night and sent off back to the Council for archival purposes hence the jelly donuts as celebration of a job well done.

And for once, he wouldn't have to worry about Xander stealing them all.

Checking the dates on some of the spell components he was selling, Giles found that the raven talons were getting close to their best before date. After a moment's thought, he changed the label on the jar from "Fresh Raven Talons" to "Aged Raven Talons" and raised the price by a quarter.

Giles was going over the records from the Sunnydale shop more carefully, looking for any other questionable purchases. He worried about finding any less for the proof that Anya was funneling personal shopping through the business and less what they might inadvertantly tell him about her and Xander's sex life.

He would like to be able to continue to look Xander in the eye after all.

Giles was going over the books for the store in Sunnydale that Anya had sent him. He frowned at one particular entry then picked up his phone and dialed his 'business partner.'

He sighed when he got voicemail, but perhaps that was best. "Anya, while we've agreed you can order stock for the Sunnydale shop, do I really need to point out that a limited edition Backstreet Boys lunchbox is not an appropriate item and I have doubts that Ebay is an appropriate place to by shop stock. Please don't try to explain to me what you need the lunchbox for; I'm sure it would just embarrass both me and Xander. Just try and keep your personal acquisitions out of the Magic Box books."

Giles hung up and took off his glasses to rub at the bridge of his nose. The worst part was he couldn't stop himself from thinking about why she'd be buying such an item, no matter how much he'd like.

The HELP WANTED sign was still on the door and the Magic Box was open.

The most disturbing thing Giles had seen in a while had been a patch of scorched grass in the park that may or may not be indicative of a summoning. Not really all that disturbing at all in the grand scheme of things, but Giles was pouring over some of his books anyway to see if anything jumped out at him.

It wasn't just because he rather missed researching a new threat. No, not at all.

Not that he'd ever admit to at least.

No one wants to admit that they're a research junkie.

The sale banner had been removed but the HELP WANTED sign remained on the door.

There were some unusual things being shipped to the latter; Giles made a note to call Anya and see if he could get her to explain without any digressions into her and Xander's lovelife.

Andrew stared at it blankly. "Umm..."

"When it's ajar!"  The key turned and the door swung open.

Andrew shook his head and rushed around to set up the shop.

There was a sign posted at the front door:

G.O.B. Bluth Presents:
The Third Annual
Three Minute Dates @ Caritas

hosted by A Matchmaker Named G.O.B.

However, the sign fell over because GOB had bought really cheap sign-making materials. But if people didn't know about the event, that wouldn't necessarily stop GOB from roping them in.

On the stage at precisely 5:55 PM, the familiar opening of "The Final Countdown" blared and GOB strutted out onto the stage to set the mood. With illusions. There was the standard prancing and hankies and brandishing of knives, and it ended after a couple minutes with GOB wheeling a heart-shaped ring of fire out onto stage and releasing a flock of doves to fly through it.

After Tino got the resulting minor fire under control, GOB stepped up to the microphone. "Ladies and gentlemen, it doesn't matter who you are. If you're a dateless wonder or a complete slut, this night is for you. You'll get to meet several people of some gender and maybe, just maybe, you'll be able to convince them to come home with you. And that, my friends, is the magic--" a large blast of smoke went off behind GOB and a banner that looked much like the sign up from - aside from the fact that the banner had yet to fall apart - dropped down behind GOB, "-- of Three Minute Dates at Caritas. My name is GOB Bluth and I'll be your host."

"When I call your name and the name of someone else, you will find each other, look longingly into each others' eyes, and figure out whether or not you give a damn about whatever they're talking about. If you do, remember that for later because you'll have to do the same thing four more times and then it's a battle of trying to figure out who you want to do more! And if everything goes!"

"Oh, and we had way too many guys again so enjoy your gay dates. Oh, and Round 4 is the gay round so everyone have fun, especially the ladies!"

[OOC: Three minutes equals ten comments for our purposes. That's five comments per person. Try your very best to get it wrapped up in that time. You do NOT have to do these in chronological order. Do them as people are available. Just try not to Joss yourself.

Remember, if you slap someone, you will be teleported out of the club and will have to make your way back.

Perhaps he should send it back immediately unopened. That at least would prevent any more infestations of cheeping bunnies or murderous mummy hands. But... then he wouldn't know what was in it. Giles took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes; curiosity was going to be the death of him, really.
