Giles put two signs in the window when he opened the shop. The first was Help Wanted and the second was 10% for all new residents.

It seemed like a good marketing gimmick, what with the new term starting at the school.

The Magic Box was open.

After hanging out in the dorms for a bit, Alex wandered into town. Back home, she'd had a job working at the family sub station.

Noticing the Magic Box and the sign in the window, she decided to check it out. After all, she was a wizard and she liked magic!

She entered the store, surveying the place.

Giles looked up as the bell over the door rang. "Can I help you?"

"Oh, hi," Alex smiled, having been distracted by the store's contents. "I saw the help wanted sign in the window and thought I'd come in and check it out."

Giles looked the young woman over. "Are you interested in a job?"

"I am, yes," Alex nodded, remembering her manners. "If it's still available?" She wasn't sure if anyone else had come in before her, so she thought to check.

"There may be a position or two still open. Have you had any experience with retail? Or with magic?"

"Oh, I'm happy to hear that," she really was. "Well, back home, I worked at the Waverly Sub Station, my family's sandwich shop. And well," she paused, knowing her dad would get mad if she revealed this, "I've been around magic. It runs in the family."

Okay, so she didn't exactly say she was a wizard. "So I've had some experience with it, yes."

"What would you reccomend to a customer who wanted a charm to help them study better?" Giles tested.

That? Was a good question.

Alex wasn't used to charms, she'd only been taught about spells and wands up to this point.

"Well, I'd first find out what they were attempting to study for, if it was a particular subject, or if they just wanted to be able to study better in general. Then I'd check out what charms we had and see which one might fit them best," she answered, after a moment. "I'd also make sure that they were truly serious about using the charm and if there might be any after effects." That meant either the good or bad kind. In dealing with spells, Alex had found that they had both good and bad side effects. Usually both occurred. So, she wanted to be extremely careful.

Hey, she'd learned a thing or two from her mistakes... even if she was trying to help people.

Giles was quietly impressed by the answer. It was nice to actually hear a young person consider consequences. "What days would you be available?"

"I'm good on Monday or Tuesday, I don't have any classes then," Alex explained. "If that doesn't work, I only have one class on Wednesday."

"I happen to have openings on both Monday and Tuesday -- so whichever one you'd prefer...?"

"Oh, wonderful," Alex grinned happily. "I can work Monday, if that's okay."

"Excellent," Giles said, smiling at her. "Consider yourself hired. If you have the time now, I can show you around and brief you on what you'll need to know."

"Great, thank you!" Alex was ecstatic. She couldn't wait to call Harper and tell her the good news. "Sure, I have time now."

"Hello Mr. Giles" Ami said as she came into the store. "It is a new semester, so i was wondering about work schedule? I have a class on Mondays this term..."

"Is there another day that suits you better?" Giles asked.

"I can work either Wednesday or Thursday, if those are available?"

"Thursdays are, I believe," Giles said. "Andrew still has Wednesdays as far as I know. At least for now."
