The Causeway, Friday Evening

Karla was starting to have a Bad Feeling about this. Not a Black Widow bad feeling, just a kind of dawning, 'Oh, Darkness, what have I done?' kind of feeling. Would her friends be able to understand the way Kaeleer worked? Would the people in Kaeleer understand her friends? She'd already had Uncle Saetan empty the Hall as much as possible--the last thing she needed was Chaosti and Aaron riding the killing edge because they'd, well, met Arthur. Saetan was old enough to keep a reign on his temper (Darkness willing) and Lucivar.

Hell's fire, this was a bad idea.

But too late for that now. Everyone was pretty much assembled. "Uh, hi," Karla said, giving everyone a kind of feeble wave. "The portal should be here in just a few minutes. But, since we're all here, I figured now might be a good time to give some information about my home and answer any questions. I hope you all got my handwavy message about packing enough for about a week, a bathing suit, and a few more formal items because Uncle Saetan asks that everyone dress for dinner. If not, don't worry, tomorrow we'll be heading out to Amdarh, the capitol city of Dhemlan and there have been some accounts opened at stores for everyone."

She flashed her best unsure-but-game grin and said, "Any questions?"

He fancied he could hear Chuck Bass' high-pitched shouts of anger from here. It was a nice thing.

Robin arrived, wearing his weetiny hiking backpack, and carrying his banjo case. He'd been tempted to bring his skateboard, but wasn't sure that'd be practical.

"Hi Karla!" he waved. He was, as was often the case, quite bouncy with excitement.

Arthur was perfectly capable of behaving himself as long as everyone else involved knew how, thank you, Karla.

He was present, and had a mask of calm distance plastered over his face to hide any discomfort he might have regarding this trip. It'd been a while since he'd really needed that one.

Considering the demographic, Ender couldn't completely blame her. Still, he was there, backpack and all, and ready.

Dru was there, wearing her hoodie and combat boots with her duffle bag slung over her shoulder. The idea of dressing for dinner was almost enough to make her bolt back to the dorms.

No matter what Dinah said, maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all.

Jack looked as self-assured as usual as he waited for the departure time, eying the growing crowd with gathering interest. He had a feeling Kaeleer couldn't possibly be prepared for this infiltration.

He hoped he was prepared for Kaeleer.

Karla would not have to worry about Firekeeper and Blind Seer- too much, anyway. They were old hands at dealing with suddenly finding themselves amidst unfamiliar cultures, at least.

Raven was excited to be able to see Karla's home in a way that didn't involve Briarwood. That was something she never wanted to experience again.

She was staring back at the dorms in puzzlement, however, as she sensed a great deal of panic. But it was an isolated feeling, so she did not think there was any danger. Perhaps someone was upset about an upcoming test.

...yes, the two suitcases and a duffel bag for a weekend trip belonged to Kennedy. Why do you ask? The owner of said excessive luggage was leaning against the pile, checking her email for any interesting news from Constance and sadly getting disappointed on that front. Again. Why was nothing interesting happening on the Hellmouth right now as far as they could tell? Sucktastic.

Conveniently situated down the causeway from Kennedy, and really out of most people's way, Katchoo was getting in as many last smokes as she could before the portal showed up, her single rollaway bag carefully stowed at her feet. She had the feeling this was going to be an experience that made "interesting" feel inadequate.

What could possibly go wrong on a trip like this? Nothing, if the cheerful and eager expression on Gabrielle's face was anything to go by.

For the record, you shouldn't use that as an indicator. This was the girl who regularly ended up being held hostage, after all. Did this ever stop her from looking forward to some new adventure?

Tahiri had her lightsaber in her bag; she doubted, or at least very much hoped, she wouldn't have to use it, but it felt wrong from both of her perspectives to leave it behind. Her habitual flightsuits had been left behind for the trip in favor of her robes, and her boots were decidedly crammed into the bottom of her bag as an absolute last-ditch contingency. She looked less eager than interested in a businesslike way; okay, there was eagerness there, but it wasn't as if visiting new worlds was a novelty for her.

Tara had taken a page form Kennedy's book and overpacked this time, including some magic supplies as well as almost her full spring wardrobe.

She leaned against a tree as she watched the group assemble.

Aphrodite finally arrived, a little late, and talking on her phone.

"-- and you'll have to watch -- Look, I'm just not going to be around for a few days! You're a big boy now! Deal, Cupie!" She rolled her eyes and hung up, then looked around to see who she knew in the crowd.
