Parents Weekend Meet & Greet I | Town Park | Friday Afternoon | October 1

And thus began Parents' Weekend. It was an overcast day but the rain had long since tapered off. Just in case, tents had been erected all around the park to protect from the potential for wet stuff. No one needed their guest showing up cranky because they'd been rained on.

There were tables and tables of all sorts of food and drinks. There was something for everyone. The Student Council had spared no expense. Blue and gold tables and chairs were also spread out underneath the tents, giving guests and islanders a place to sit down and chat or sit down and eat or something to hide under.

A registration table stood near the front of the setup where guests could check in and get a nametag. A banner adorned the edges of the tents proclaiming:

WELCOME TO PARENTS' WEEKEND 2010

Alice picked up her name tag, which proudly read "Hello, My Name is Alice".

She looked a little rugged, several weapons on her person that were not at all concealed. She also had a smile on her face. She liked visiting this island.

Gabriel was all of four years old (nearly five, nearly double digits) so his nametag contained his name (GABE) and lots of other doodles but it was stuck to his chest and he was off to find his brother.

Commander Walsh eyed the nametags, reluctantly picking up his that read Commander Joseph Walsh and put it on.

John MacTavish wasn't exactly blending in. He wasn't even supposed to be arriving, and yet there seemed to be some big event. So, in an effort to make it look like he belonged, he grabbed a name-tag and just wrote 'Soap' on it.

It'd give Price a good laugh, and that'd be a good icebreaker before things got really gritty.

"Oh, my," said Queen Valanice of Daventry, with a pleased, impressed smile as she scoped out the set-up for this most delightful event. "Now, isn't this just quaint? They've even supplied little nametags. Didn't they just do a wonderful job with this, Rosella?"

It was then that Valanice realized she was mostly talking to herself. "Rosella? Rosella!"

Frowning now, she put her hands on her hips, scanning the crowd. "Now where has that girl gone off to now?"

Ah, how quaint. Nametags. Were they going to serve juice and Oreos, too? It was all so delightfully middle class.

Well, without the delightful, of course.

Adrienne didn't bother with a nametag. She was a Frost. Either people knew her or they didn't and guess whose loss the latter was. She did however touch a few of the other tags lying around, looking for the distinctive blankness that suggested Emma was nearby. It was a long shot, but why not? It kept Adrienne from judging the people who shopped at department stores.

...Okay, that's not true. She was capable of multitasking.

After listening to Lee babble on and on about Jono's new crew, Angelo felt he had to check it out for himself. Lee was loco nine times out of ten -- usually in a good way -- but Mama Espinosa didn't raise her boy to just forget about his hombre.

He slapped a nametag that read 'Espinosa' on his shirt, and looked around for the distinctive emo that would mark Jonothon.

Two years ago, you might have been able to read the I really don't want to be here off of Peter's face, but he'd done his share of time in the media since then. Which didn't mean his expression was anything beyond a professional blank, but for Peter, not radiating disdain was a very big step up.

He fiddled with his jacket as he walked with Valentine towards the park. Smartly dressed - he was sure he'd have the other visitors beat.

Tony's hand hesitated over the nametags until he found the one that read Tony Stonem, which he proudly slapped on his chest.

You wouldn't know it to look at him, but he was excited. It'd be nice to get some time with the little sis, make sure she was doing all right with everything.

Sebastian, not without a great deal of muttering complaints filled with unfinished sentences, had managed to crawl up to the top of the registration table, but his accomplishment did nothing for his disposition once he got there and saw how the nametags were almost nearly as big as he was.

"Well, dis is a fine mess of slugs, isn't it? All dat work and all for nothink. Where is dat girl? So help me if I have to track her down..."

Hermes frowned at the nametag, trying to decide what name he should put down in this most recent attempt to be incognito.

The attempt would be more fruitful if he wasn't talking to the two wiggly worms on the antenna of his cell phone. They were talking right back to him, but you wouldn't be able to hear it unless you were of the telepathic sort.

Pick George, the male worm said.

"I'm not picking George, that's your name," Hermes mumbled. "You'll just get confused all weekend."

Pick something nice, the female worm, Martha, suggested. What about Patroclus? I liked him.

"That's a bit dated, and I don't need Achilles giving me grief for using it next time I'm in the Underworld," Hermes said. After another moment of thought, Hermes eventually scribbled down Henry onto the nametag and stuck it on his chest. That should work.

Judy looked through the nametags until she found the one with her name on it, smiling a bit nervously at the other guests. Some of them looked almost as eccentric as Quinnie kept claiming the school was on the phone.

Alex didn't know he was coming. In fact, Amber hadn't known he was leaving until that morning because he hadn't wanted to upset her. He was there now, looking through the nametags and finding his before sticking it to his chest.

He hadn't seen Alex in a long time so he hoped he remembered what his brother looked like.

There was not a chance in Hell of Ranon wearing one of those things. It wasn't in his best interest for two many people to know who he was.

That would be why he flicked a glance over them quickly before looking around.

Wow, some of these people's names are weird.

Finn lingered by the nametags slightly longer than he should've, really. Eventually, he took his own and stuck it firmly on his jacket.

Seriously though, dude: Quinn was going to school in a castle. He wondered if that made going to the toilet more difficult.

A trio of somewhat remarkable looking people stopped at the registration table. Though whether it was their steampunkish clothes or the fact that one of them appeared to be a werewolf that made them so special was up to others to decide.

Sparks helped Micky put on her name tag while Wolfboy tried to make up his mind as to which name to put on his.

Sam managed to find a nametag with her name, but there was no way that she was going to put it on. Besides, she had business cards with her if she met any potential high-rollers and wanted to make an impression.

"Oh!" Zoidberg proclaimed with pleasant surprise when he reached the registration table. "Delicious vittles!"

Which mean, in a matter of seconds and a flurry of tentacles, the nametag was consumed with gusto, and Zoidberg's eyes scanned the table for any others that might have his name on it, or anything close enough to work as a mistake.

T'ing had argued that Hobson was there as a guest, just as she was, but he wouldn't have it. It was a hobgoblin's nature to be of service, so goshdarnit, he was gonna do it.

Therefore he'd insisted on securing their name tags.

That girl (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/5479865.html?thread=212956601#t212956601) had just happened to extricate herself from her mother and found the food table, her eyes scanning over it for the most delicious and sweet and fattening ones she could find, her mother's complaints over how she won't be able to fit into her corsets anymore be damned.

First food, and then Rosella resolved to brush off her mother in the crowd and go find Alexander. She wanted to get to him before Valanice did, because then they might actually have the chance of some fun.

Knowing that Gabriel would be arriving meant Jonas was out at the park early, wandering around with a bottle of water and his eyes peeled low to find Gabe in the crowd.
