Covent Garden FlowErs, Friday 10/10

Normally (at least according the pattern that seemed to be developing) Eliza would have opened the shop herself yesterday instead of today. Since she'd been apprised of the dance this weekend, however, she'd decided to keep the place shut on Thursday and spend the time preparing a variety of bouquets and corsages for those who hadn't thought ahead, as well as those that had actually been ordered.

She'd also removed the completely wilted violet E from the sign over the door, replacing it with one made of bright pink miniature carnations. A bit out of scale with the rest of the sign, but certainly eye-catching, she hoped.

The sign in the window today had been altered to match, and now read:

Eliza Doolittle, prop.
Fresh flowers from nosegays to bouquets!
Delivery available upon request.

5% off all corsages and buttonholes. 10% off for returning graduates.

Tony stopped in to pick up the flower he'd ordered the other day. "Hello?"

"Hello!" Eliza answered, immediately in salesgirl mode after the number of last-minute shoppers already. "May I interest you in a corsage for your date?"

"I already ordered a flower. For Tony Foster?" Tony asked.

"Oh!" She nodded, pleased that there'd been at least one person thinking ahead. "I know where that is - just a moment."

She ducked into the back room to retrieve the refrigerated white buttonhole posy, then returned with it to the counter. "So this one's for you, then. Would you like a matching girl's bouquet? White's simple enough that I could whip one up straight away."

"Ah, no, that's actually for my date," Tony said. "Andrew."

"That's an odd name for-- ohhh." Her confusion smoothed away and she nodded. "I understand. You're like the Colonel and the Professor." He was a bit young to be a confirmed bachelor, but Eliza supposed they had to start somewhere.

"Yeah, probably," Tony said. "I don't know them."

"No, they're..." What on earth was she to call Henry Higgins? Friend didn't seem at all appropriate now and she wasn't sure if it ever had been. "They live together in London, and I used to stay with them; Colonel Pickering is an investor in my shop."

"Good for them," Tony smiled. "How much will it be?"

She forced herself not to say sixpence, even though it would never leave the tip of her tongue, and instead named a price in the American currency that all of the students seemed to be using. "No, wait, that's without the discount." She corrected the figure on the receipt, and nudged the flowers across the counter. "There you are."

Tony paid her in cash. "Thank you!" he said.

"You're very welcome," Eliza's answered. "I hope you and your friend enjoy the dance." If there was a sharpness in her heart as she said the words, she didn't let it touch her voice.

Perhaps she's busy hanging up the E. Again.

Romeo came in before going to the carnival and ordered a wrist corsage for Yurika Dojima.

Liir came in early and requested a corsage (https://www.raysflorist.co.uk/images/up_images/B7968_corsage_ivory_singapore_orchid.jpg) for Penelope. He would do this right, for goodness sake!
