After her class, Kaylee'd taken a quick shower before running to open the store. Kaylee being Kaylee, her hair was not only still wet, but actually sticking up.

She thought she looked fine.

Stark Industries was open.

It'd been a while since Murdock had swung by the shop, so there he was Friday morning. He grinned when he saw who was working.

"Kaylee! Hey gal, how're things goin'?"

"Hi! Pretty good, sir, how're you?" Kaylee replied cheerfully, waving.s

"I'm good." He chuckled a bit at her hair. "Looks cute," he waved at her, smirking. Which he really did think. She was such a cute kid.

"Figure I might get some work in on my project. I rented a bit of space out back from Mr. Stark. Are you liking your classes so far?"

She nodded happily. "Only got two, but I like 'em a lot so far. I had t'climb a rope today."

"Climb a rope?" he asked with curiosity. "Which class was that for?" At this school, there was no telling.

"Phys. Ed!" she told him. "It weren't too hard, don't worry."

He grinned. "Climbin' a rope in phys ed has got to a novelty around here. I figured it'd be somethin' like english. Interactive literature or some such."

"At least you're havin' fun, right?"

She nodded happily. "Definitely that."

"Good," he smirked back.

"I'm gonna go in the back and mess around for a bit. I won't make too much noise." He hoped.

"Wouldn't bother me if y'did, sir," she promised.

He chuckled, "Alright then." He cocked his head at her a bit. "You ain't gotta call me sir, ya know. I don't stand on a whole lotta formalities."

"Habit," she said, shrugging and smiling. "I been workin' with grown-up men since I was a little girl an' I got really good at just callin' guys 'sir.' Ain't so much a formality as respect of age an' all."

"Oh, I gotcha." And now he felt old. Dangit.

"Well this ol' man," and he couldn't help but smirk a bit, "is gonna go," play with tools, "do some work. I'll see ya."

Ben had been spending his free Friday learning the lay of the land. And even if he wasn't the tinkerer that his cousin and father were, the smell of mechanics was a bit too much like home to be ignored.

"Hello," he said shyly, stepping into the store.

"Hi!" Kaylee said cheerfully, waving exuberantly. "You got somethin' that needs fixin'?"

His smile widened at her greeting. "No," he admitted, accent a little thick. "This shop just reminded me of home."

The accent reminded her of a few guys who came to her daddy's shop (usually ones she weren't allowed to talk to, either 'cause they was too fancy or too shady.)

"You live in a workshop?"

"Only when one of Dad's projects takes up too much space," Ben said with a smile. "I've spent a lot of time in spaceports. They smell a bit like this."

"Oooh!" Kaylee's eyes went round with excitement. "Where you from?"

"A planet called Coruscant--have you heard of it?"

The name sounded kinda familiar. "Maybe?" she said. "Not my galaxy, though."

He grinned at her. "I'm just excited to have someone else who is all right using terms like 'my galaxy'," he said. "I've been meeting a lot of people who aren't exactly used to space travel."

"I'm from a whole 'nother galaxy," she said, nodding. "An' I won't even be born for almost five hundred years. It's fun."

"I can beat that. My grandfather's here," he replied, laughing. "And is, I don't know, 20-something?"
