It rapidly became clear that Apu didn't care that Jan was actually Aljan, Prince of the Unicorns.

He also didn't care about Jan's mate, Tek, or his shoulder-friend, Dagg, or the gryphon's attack or, in fact, anything that Jan had remembered.

Not that this stopped Jan from talking about it, oh no.

Jan happily frisked after him as Apu checked the buttermilk, just to be on the safe side.

Today's Squishy flavours: purple, gingerbread, cinnammon.

After a lot of careful selection, Brooke came up to the counter with a mass of Christmas decorations. Because she needed to spread cheer, dammit.

Jan trotted over and whickered as he looked at all the decorations. "There are very nice," he said, as Apu rolled his eyes and began adding them up. "Are you going to wear them?" No one had yet explained Christmas to Jan.

"The garland can be a really cute boa," Brooke said without batting an eye. She had, after all, gone to Caritas like that. "But no, I'm gonna attack the common room to make it pretty."

He nudged the garland with his nose, ears flicking, then snorted. "That is kind of you, to do something so nice for the other students." His ears flicked again and Apu nudged him to get him to move over. Jan took up a lot of space.

"Consider it my Christmas present to everyone," she decided. "That's what I'll tell everyone now, thank you."

Jan tossed his mane, looking pleased with himself. "You are welcome," he said, then peered at her through his forelock. "What is Christmas?"

Brooke blinked, pretty sure that was the first time she'd heard that question. She hadn't been here this time last year, though. "Well, it's a holiday. Where everyone buys each other presents and decorates everything pretty and and have things like love and goodwill towards each other. Which disappears right around December 26."

He considered that, head tilted, while Apu told her the price, then nodded. "That is good holiday," he decided. "Is is something just for humans, or could I celebrate it, too?"

"Everyone can celebrate it. ...Unless there's some religious thing that says you can't," she said, rushing through that part. "Want to start with a garland boa?"

Jan's ears shot forward. "Please!" He pranced out from behind the counter and bowed his head low, being careful of his horn.

Giggling, Brooke pulled some of the garland out from the packaging in order to wrap it loosely around his neck. "You look fabulous," she told him.

He preened, arching his neck and flagging his tail, turning his head this way and that to look at it. "I've never seen anything so shiny," he said happily. "It sparkles!"

"And you're now more decked out in Christmas than any human I've seen lately. Congratulations," Brooke said.

Jan snorted in amusement. "I'm a Christmas unicorn," he decided. "I'll wear it for the entire day."

"Good. Work that," she said, paying for her stuff and grabbing her bags. "Merry Christmas."

"And Merry Christmas to you." Jan bobbed his head, then went to show Apu his garland.

Apu was distinctly unimpressed.
