MCA Lobby, Wednesday

Zayne didn't usually spend weekdays over at the MCA office, but he received an alert that the office safe had been broken into. When he got into the office, he didn't see any signs of a break in until he opened the safe up to find a gremlin taking a nap.

He had no idea how the gremlin got in there or why it wanted to take a nap there (or why it looked kind of cute when it snored), but he took the time to levitate the gremlin out gently and move it out back to the alley.

After taking care of the gremlin problem, Zayne went back to the lobby and started watching out for any possible signs of a gremlin infestation. Just in case.

Elle knew that she was staying in town. Fandom was the only place that was home to her anymore. And that meant that she had to find someplace to live.

And so she was checking out the apartments first.

"Hi," she said to the man in the lobby. "Who do I talk to about maybe renting an apartment?"

Zayne broke his careful gaze toward the air vents and turned it into a friendly smile directed to the girl in the lobby. "You could talk to pretty much anyone about it, but I'm one of the few who can actually rent one to you."

He was feeling like a smartass today, apparently.

Elle laughed at that; she approved of smartassery.

"In that case, you're just the man I want to see." She grinned. "I'm a recent Fandom grad and I'm staying in town, which means I need a place to actually, y'know, live."

Before the other week she'd have said she wished she could stay in the dorms forever; now, she couldn't wait to get away from them.

"Better here than in an alley," Zayne said, grabbing his apartment listing. "Let's see. I have three vacancies. Two on the fourth floor. One of those is a two-bedroom, but it has a kitchen of doom. And the third apartment is in the sub-basement and has a living room of wild rumpus."

"What makes the kitchen so doom-y?" Elle asked curiously. "Or is this one of those 'I probably don't want to know' things?"

Yeah, she was already intrigued.

"I'm pretty sure the name is just to add some color," Zayne said. "I haven't had to do any extra plumbing work to get rid of demons or anything."

"I also have no clue what wild rumpus is supposed to be. I suspect it's a small rodent, but I haven't found it."

"Just wanted to make sure," Elle said. "I do like the idea of having a doom-y kitchen, though. Can use it to strike fear into the hearts of... okay... I'm sure there's someone."

"Vegetarians. People with nut allergies. There's limitless potential for doom," Zayne said.

"If you wan to check that apartment out, I can give you the tour. I'm Zayne, by the way. I own the building."

"And a little doom is always fun." Elle grinned. "I'd love a tour. I'm Elle. Nice to meet you."

"Same here." Zayne reached over the counter into the office and held a hand out to call the keys to #8 to him. Once he had them, he locked the office up from the outside, he pointed toward the elevators before starting across the lobby.

"If you'll just step this way, the elevators are over here. The laundry machine is right next to one of them. And right in front of us is my apartment. Feel free to call or knock if you ever need anything."

Elle followed him to the elevators. "I'll keep that in mind," she said with a nod, as she made mental note of where the laundry was. "Hopefully I won't be a bother, though."

"Never try to kill me and you'll be fine," Zayne said as he stepped inside and hit the elevator button. He chuckled, but he wasn't joking. "Oh, speaking of which, the basement has a security bunker for all residents to use in case of, you know, invasion, monster attack, that kind of thing. There are weapons there, but they're all non-lethal."

Elle didn't plan on trying to kill her landlord, so she figured she probably would be fine, yeah.

"Good to know about the bunker," she said. "With the way Fandom is, that thing probably comes in handy."

Once the elevator reached the top floor, Zayne started to lead her down the hallway to #8. "So, like I said, two bedrooms, a fairly large dining-slash-living area, you get a balcony, and a kitchen that is only of Doom in name as far as I can tell."

Zayne opened the door and motioned for Elle to step inside and take a look."

Elle stepped inside and promptly let out a low whistle. "Very nice," she said as she explored the living room area. "I like it."

It was so much bigger than anything she'd ever had before. That fact was a little overwhelming, really, but in a good way.
